Born and raised in scenic Coos County, Oregon, CJ enjoys the small town atmosphere and down-to-earth country folk who populate the area. She is a single mother and lives with her 18-year-old daughter, 1 horse, 4 dogs and 6 cats deep in the country woodlands which gives her plenty of time to write.
She is a Christian and a strong supporter of the LGBT community and favors gay erotic romance when it comes to writing. She hopes that her stories of love and acceptance will help further compassion and understanding for LGBT people who she feels is greatly misunderstood and persecuted - in a large party by the Christian community.
Most of all, she is hopeful that her stories will bring comfort to those who have been told that God hates them because they are different. It is her strong belief that God loves everyone and His love covers all.
While not in the slightest bit realistic, what with three of the guys ending up being closet gay or bisexual, this was still an easy read with relatively low angst.
It felt a bit tweeny at times, with an over abundance of the use of babe, baby and other similar derivatives, and the sex scenes all merged into a similar set of phrases and actions, but there was a nice bit of humour and some good friendships to offset that.
Now another wait for the continuation of this serial.
Well that was a MONSTER read. 495 pages in one day. Goodness! And Thanksgiving is tomorrow. I guess I should start cooking...or something.
Nolan and Drew work at Winterhaven lodge and, and are best friends and occasional lovers...but not 'in love'. Drew is extremely protective of Nolan because he's not particularly big, and fairly obviously gay. Every year a group of homophobic skiers (Lane and friends) comes to visit, and Lane picks on Nolan relentlessly; Todd is his best friend and trusty sidekick. Todd makes a wager that Lane would beat Nolan in a ski competition. He's so confident Lane will win that he wagers that if Nolan wins he can f*ck Lane, and if Lane wins Nolan has to have sex with a girl. Lane can't really back down because he's not supposed to be scared a gay guy can beat him so they take the bet. It all gets veryyy interesting from there.
There is a lot to love there. Three m/m couples (one pops up later), all with rough, homophobic starts, and one cute m/f couple (friends, off page). This author can write! Engaging, hot sex, twist and turns, friendship, teary eyed moments; they're all here. This is a fully, meaty, 7-part volume and it's on KU. You will get your subscription money's worth on this read alone.
But, it's not flawless.
The incessant use of the words 'fagg*t' and 'f*g' all throughout Part 1 is hive inducing; it was just too much.
The sex is hawt, but can get repetitive especially since all the guys are extremely vocal. Be prepared to read A LOT of 'Oh God's', 'Yes, babys', I'm coming, right there, uhhh ahhha yeahhh. Just be.prepared lol. Every sex scene reads like the most mind blowing sex they've all ever had in their lives lol. Still, did I mention it's hawt. There's just something about the way this author writes sexual tension that's tummy warming.
The overuse of the word 'baby' kind of takes away from giving it any special meaning, especially when you have young 20-something year old college kids sounding like someone's nana. "I know baby, but, in life...' Uh huh.
I pretty much skipped all the sex in the last part. It just seemed to go on too long, and because we'd already had six parts about the first 2 couples, I was more interested in the newest couple (don't want to spoil). So, even though, I love all my babies equally, I skimmed the first 2 couples' scenes, even though they were at important turning points in their relationships.
And it's still not over! Volume 2 apparently will deal with life outside the ski resort, and how all these very new 'gay' couples deal with facing the outside world. I WILL be reading it!
What a train wreck. The entire premise (the bet) was absurd. The only thing I liked was Nolan & Drew’s friendship. The rest was no bueno. Literally all but 1 of the aggressive homophobic dudes was in the closet. Fear and humiliation about being found out made them attack other gays that worked at a restaurant where they dined. Sure. The sex scenes were all some arrangement of “ungh...yes...fuck fuck fuck...harder...fuck me, baby” so I skimmed the last 10 or so. The thing I hated most was the way women are portrayed. Tonya the evil slut, lizzy the stereotypical mm gay guy’s bestie & Nikki the savior who has to protect 2 grown men from all the bad men. The men all get to be redeemed after their awful bigot behavior so only Tonya remains the villain. And if Nolan lost the bet he had to have sex with a woman, but there was no woman involved in making the bet. So like were they gonna pick a random woman and say “hey I’m only attracted to men, but I lost a bet so I need to fuck you” or what? Basically I’m nitpicking at this point because annoyed. Bottom line:
Simply, a gay bully young men novel. It was quite the treat. These were not mature men or characters. Fascinating young boys who experience finding themselves and independently having their own unique experiences shared from their own POV.
I loved it. Excellent verbal sex.
Where is Volume 2? Damn it! I know it exists... just cant find it on Amazon. I want the rest of the story. I'm vested now in the characters... Drew & Todd, Nolan & Land and Rodney & Darren.
Come on A.M. Snead, give us readers the rest of your stories! Not just this series, but the others as well. I love your writing but I don't like that you leave us hanging
Actual trash. This was like watching the trashiest daytime show, where it's all terrible but you just can't stop watching until it's over. What does it say about me that it was bad, but I still read 500 pages of it?
Beautifully written book with good character development. I reread this book a few times already and will probably reread again later. I am a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope and this delivers. Sex is amazingly written as well.
The story line dragged a little for me. I have waited on bated breath for your new books to come out. Only takes me a day or two to read your books. This took me a week to get through.
Instantly drawn into the characters from the first page and the momentum didn't stop. There were a couple of small spelling mistakes, nothing major so they didn't ruin the storyline. Love this book.
The joys of new love are wonderful, the discovery - not always!
Winterhaven, is a ski resort packed for the weekend due to a downhill competition. Nolan has worked at the resort for the last couple of years and has seen Lane and his homophobic friends give him grief year after year. However, Nolan has a secret crush on Lane. When Lane and Nolan are goaded into a bet, they find themselves trapped where the loser's butt is on the line literally! Trying to amend the bet leads to them dragging their friends Drew and Todd into it and a battle royal ensues. The hijinks, heart ache and hilarity finds "true love" in the most unexpected places. Plotlines twist and turn and a cast of nicely developed characters make this a must read series. Well done again A M Snead!
You know, it's weird ... this didn't feel very "real" at times, it is FULL of external and internal homophobia, one of the female characters was a caricature ... but I still read every word and rooted for every couple. It ends on a HFN, and I'd be down for seeing what happens next.
