About the author

Mani Lal Bhaumik is an Indian-born American physicist. He is a lecturer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
His early contributions to laser technology are exemplified by the development of the excimer laser at the Northrop Corporation Research and Technology Center in Los Angeles. As team leader, Dr. Bhaumik announced the successful demonstration of the world's first efficient excimer laser at the Denver, Colorado meeting of the Optical Society of America in May 1973. Subsequently, it found extensive use as the type of laser that made possible the immensely popular Lasik corrective eye surgery, eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses in many cases. In recognition of his pioneering research in high energy lasers and new laser systems, Dr. Bhaumik has been elected by his peers to fellowships in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers as well as of the American Physical Society.
Dr. Bhaumik's current interest is in sharing with the public the advances in quantum physics and cosmology and their implications for both material and spiritual development.
He was given one of India's prestigious civilian award - Padma Shri - in 2011.

বহুদিন আগে তখন সম্ভবত ক্লাস সেভেন, একটি দিদি উপহার দিয়েছিল বইটি। এক নিঃশাসে শেষ করেছিলাম। অবাক হয়ে গেছিলাম যে এরকম বই ও কেও লিখেছে। ছোটো ছিলাম বলেই হয়তো বেশি অবাক হয়েছিলাম, এখন যেমন জেনে গেছি জগতে এমন কোনো টপিক নেই যার ওপর বই লেখা হয়নি।
এই বইটি ক্লাস সিক্স থেকে টেনের বাচ্চাদের বিশ্ব-ব্রহ্মান্ড সম্পর্কে আগ্রহী করে তুলবে এবং অনেক জিনিস জানতে পারবে তারা, অনেক গম্ভীর জিনিসকে এত সহজ ভাষায় বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে বইটিতে যে ক্লাস ফাইভ কেন, তার থেকে ছোটো বাচ্চারও বুঝতে অসুবিধা হবে না। ড. মণি ভৌমিক এত বড় গবেষক হওয়া সত্ত্বেও এত সহজ ভাষায় বাচ্চাদের বোঝার উপযোগী করে বই লিখেছেন তা বিশ্বাস করা মুশকিল। আমার ছোটবেলার ভাবনা-চিন্তা ভালোলাগা বিজ্ঞান বিষয়ে আগ্রহ সব কিছুই এই বইটি দ্বারা অনেকখানি প্রভাবিত। কিছু কিছু বই থাকে যেগুলো আমাদের ভবিষ্যতের ভালোলাগা বা পছন্দের বিষয় ঠিক করে দেয়, আমার ক্ষেত্রে এই বইটি সেইরকম।

A long time ago, probably in Class Seven, this book was given as a gift by a Sona Didi. I finished it in one breath. I was surprised that someone had written such a book. Maybe I was more surprised because I was younger, now as I know there is no topic in the world on which no book has been written.
This book will make children of Sixth Standard or above interested in the universe. They learn a lot of things about Universe from this book. Many serious things are described in such simple language that I think even a child younger than Sixth Standard will not have difficulty in understanding. It is hard to believe that Dr. Mani Bhowmik, despite being such a great researcher, has written a book in such a simple language that a child can understand. My childhood thoughts and interest in science are all greatly influenced by this book. There are some books that will fix our future interests or preferences, in my case this book is of that kind.

"অন্ধকারের একটি রূপকথা আছে । সে রুপ কথা লেখা হয় রাতের আকাশে তারার অক্ষরে"😌😌


নভেম্বর মাসে আমার ১৭ তম জন্মদিনে দিদি বইটি উপহার দিয়েছিল. এত দিনে পড়ার সুযোগ হল. Christopher Nolan এর interstellar সিনেমা টা দেখার পর থেকে universe or multiverse and space নিয়ে জানার আগ্রহ ক্রমশ বেড়ে চলেছে. সেই জ্ঞান অর্জনের জন্যেই পড়া এই বইটি 😅😅

আসা যাক পাঠ প্রতিক্রিয়া তে বইটি পড়ে অনেক নতুন তথ্য জানতে পেরেছি. Science এর student হওয়ায় বিজ্ঞানী যে Term গুলো ব্যাবহার করেছেন সেই গুলি আগে শুনেছিলাম অবশ্যই কিন্ত বিষদে জানলাম এই বই পড়ে. পৃথিবী সৃষ্টির কথা আছে এই বইটি তে . আছে "বিশ্বজীবনীর আঁকে বাঁকে রহস্যে" এর কথা.
Expanding universe , the universe is not static , spiral galaxy , we are made of star dust , red dwarf, giant star , white dwarf , supernova, nebula , neutron star , asteroids, meteoroids , big bang , dark matter , black hole , space station .... And the description of solar system এর খুব সুন্দর বর্ণনা আছে বইটিতে. বইটি আপনাকে ভাবতে বাধ্য করবে এই universe নিয়ে .

তিনটি জায়গায় বইটি আমাকে disappoint করেছে ১) wormhole এর ব্যাপারে কোনো কিছু লেখা নেই. ২) time travel এর ব্যাপারেও বিজ্ঞানী আমাদের কিছু বলেনি ৩) বিজ্ঞানী আমাদের alien সম্পর্কে কিছু বলেনি.. 😑😑

বইটি তে জটিল জটিল তথ্যকে খুব সহজ ভাষায় প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে । মহাশূন্য এর প্রচুর ছবি রয়েছে বইটিতে এবং তার সঙ্গে ব্যাখ্যা করা আছে ছবি গুলি. ❤️

মোটের উপর বইটি ভালো. ৮৪ পাতার বইটি পড়তে এক বেলা সময় লাগবে পড়া শেষ হয়ে গেলেও ওই থেকে বেরোনো যাবেনা যাই কাজ করুন না কেন মাথায় ঘুরবে সেই universe এর কথা.. 😌😌
