My daughter and I love reading Zanna Davidson's Fairy Unicorns series! The stories are action-packed with a great formula for young girls: unicorns and magic, a secret world that a little girl can enter, an evil pony to overcome. There are positive, useful themes, revolving around making friends and being brave and being true to yourself to overcome negative forces. The illustrations are beautiful and the book format is gorgeous: hardcover with a ribbon bookmark. I taught my daughter how to open the book using the ribbon bookmark and she was delighted to learn this trick. Great quality reading for six-year-olds. We are reading the Fairy Ponies series next!
Read this series during January and beginning of February. And this was part 4. It keeps the same concept as the others, although in this one they're underwater. And, the only place, the writer actually tries to add some scariness (for the age) and succeeds! At least according to kiddo, so that was good! Scary castles with curses are always a win concept. So that's the biggest plus in this one, otherwise it was the same sugar sweetness as the others. Works good reading for your kid.
As with the earlier book in this series, this is a good book for the developing reader. The author has good descriptive writing without overcomplication. The plot is similar to the other one but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
This book was very similar to the others in the set. I felt like this one didn’t have as much action in it as the others at the beginning of the series and was a bit anticlimactic. It was still very well-written and original, like the others in the set. My daughter loves these books.
Of course, my six-year-old daughter has been loving this series, but surprisingly my eight-year-old son has been loving it even more – he even requests it when it’s his time to choose. Bring on the next one.
Perfect book to read in tandem with a 6 year old. Nice story, some words more challenging and easy to take breaks after 6-8 pages and continue the next evening.
I think it was a good story. And I also think that the unicorn learned how to do her magic by helping, and with her friend. I think it was the best story ever.
