A hunter who knows every inch of the forest, Sorcha didn't hesitate to accept the job Queen Ana asked of her, especially that it has something to do with her grandmother, a lorekeeper living in the forest. But a simple job became more complicated and dangerous as shifters-turned-evil and possibly a resurrected black fae holding ancient evil threatens the woodlands.
Working with Conall, an alpha wolf, she met in the forest must be the next best step since more and more shifters and even humans are missing. And a journey with a cocky yet undeniably charming wolf who calls her Red might not be that bad at all.
Can they(Red and her Wolf) do it? Find the one who is behind the evil scourging their land and defeat it? And can they convince the other clans of shifters to stand beside them and the monarchs? Can Wolf succeed to convince Red that they're meant together; that she is his mate?
Oh My God!!! I'm not even gonna review this like I usually do since I might possibly said the same thing over and over; Perfection! The plot and it's development, the writing, the characters and their development, the world building; applaudable.
Here's the thing, I am surprised that I haven't heard of this book/series from anyone and anywhere before. And what a shame. This is one of the best retelling of Red Riding Hood that I've ever read. Or watched. Instead of having the Wolf as the antagonist, he's the hero instead. And I think I'd still love him even as an antagonist.
I liked the first instalment in this series which is the Beauty and the Beast but this one, I loooooved. If you're looking for a strong and definitely not foolish heroine, a yummy, charming, hot, sweet, lovable hero, an exciting journey, great fights, fairies, shape shifters, sorcerers, dragons and did I already mention TINKER BELL?
I really want everyone to read this one. A fast, fun and exciting read whatever your mood is, or whatever the weather's mood is.

Story – 2 Stars dnf @ 87%
The story is very well written. The author does an excellent job of tying in the Fairy Tales and characters while still giving a different kind of story. But….even with the action and violence, there’s still something just too tame about the overall delivery of the story. The fairy tale quality is just too prominent. As for the romance, it’s sweet but lacked the tension and heat I look for in an “adult” romance.
PS...In my opinion, the books in the series should be read in order.

This made for a fun twist on the classic fairytale. The plot was full of excitement and flowed very well. I enjoyed all of the characters in this read, even the secondary ones. Well written. Also another bonus is that it was offered as a kindleunlimited. I look forward to checking out more of this writers work.

I loved this action-packed twist to Red Riding Hood! I adored Conall and Sorcha. Their romance was a lovely slow burn, with sizzling end results! But the story...gah! I loved the story! Surprise twists, shifters, magic battles, fairies, and of course, the romance!

Unique and intriguing retelling of one of my favorite fairy tales. My biggest complaint is that Red was just a human in a world full of magical beings. If she has to be human at least make her a better hunter. Her whole identity is a fighter, but she is no match for basically any creature she meets in this book and is constantly being saved by Conan. I don't mind a damsel in distress but it can't be both a bad ass fighter chick and a weak human who can't hold her own. But I did really enjoy this book and will read it again someday. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Blackstream usually sticks to just 1 scene towards the end of each book. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-4/5 Steaminess-3/5 Explicitness-3/5

Love, love, LOVE this book!
Ms. Savage has done it again. I loved Beauty and the Beast but Red and the Wolf was even better. The action sequences, the thrill of the chase and hunt, the slow building and beautiful romance, the fight for good vs. evil, and a fresh take on an old fairy tale. Well done! I could go on and on but you honestly have to read this book. I'm so glad that I pre-ordered it. I literally devoured it today and could hardly put it down. Her writing is so flawless, detailed, and fluid that her novels are quickly becoming some of my favorites. Red is up there as one of the best I've read recently and I read a lot.
Looking ahead...do I see Goldilocks and the Three Bears coming? Don't tease us too long for the next book!

I am in love with these stories. The different take on a classic fairy tale, the dialog and the pacing are fantastic. I love how the author writes her heroines and heroes.

I love how the author incorporated the main characters from the previous story, Beauty and the Beast, easing the stories together. Connell was charmingly inexperienced, in defiance of the typical romance trope of the worldly, many-bedded male and the nubile female. Lovely story!

Freakn' Awesome!
Love love love the fairy tale twist. Red and her wolf rock. Story is fast pace and I totally ate it up. I wanted more in the end and cant wait to start the next book in the series. I highly recommend this whole series. Romance is sweet but leaves you with a great imagination of how things really got juicy.

The writing isnt bad, but the plotting is slow and the recurring characters dull. It seems you have to read the first book to be invested in the workd because the plotting is cumulative and feels like the writing depends on earlier exposition in the first book

Red and the Wolf is the second in Savage's Once Upon a Spell series. I started reading immediately after I finished Beauty and the Beast, and literally could not put this down. I didn't even notice hours slipping by as I focused so completely on the book, wondering what happens next.
The simple synopsis included above does not begin to describe the awesomeness that you will find in these pages. Sorcha is a triumphant, courageous, determined woman with so many skills that it is mind-blowing how she is continually underestimated. The segments of story from her perspective are hands down my favorite because she is so insightful and so unapologetically appreciative and honest. I like to think that if I saw a gorgeous male specimen, that I would be able to immediately appreciate him for his nobility and handsome features without falling prey to gossip and other peoples' prejudices. She is a truly fantastic character.
I really like that King Alistair and Queen Anastasia are in this book, as well. This is my favorite kind of series - where each book focuses on a different set of characters, but the ones you've already been introduced to are still included and continue to grow and develop.
And Conall - this is what every man should be like, in my opinion. Strong, courageous, fun, gentle, intelligent, honorable. He was a really fun character to read.
One thing that I did have difficulty with, however, is how quickly Conall and Sorcha fell in love. It's an issue I have with so many stories, because it can be difficult - without explicit indications of how much time has passed - to really translate reading time into character time. In this case, it feels like Sorcha and Conall were traveling together for perhaps a couple of weeks, maybe as much as a month. That feels like a very short time to fall in love. Especially since, given the descriptions Sorcha gives, she had not felt anything close to love for anybody before and spent the vast majority of her time with just her immediate family members.
It's not a bad thing, by any means. I just prefer when a love story takes a bit longer - a bit more realistic time period - to occur. That makes it feel more special and lasting to me.
Despite that one small thing, I absolutely love this book and I have a feeling I will read it again and again!

One other small thing I had an issue with was the climax fight scene. With all the journeying and the fighting that Sorcha and Conall went through to get to Maevel, it was a little frustrating to me that the fight scene with the dark fairy queen took less time than the fight scene with Ferghus. I really wish that more detail had been given to describing how the dark fairy was found by Ferghus and the process of her being nursed back to health or regaining her power. I wish that more description had gone into how Conall was able to get to the tower with the star spear without Maevel noticing because he was in wolf form and had that power to shift with his belongings intact. I personally thought that bit was brilliant and wish it had gotten more explicit attention in the final pages.

Last year I came across Beauty and the Beast by Vivienne Savage. At the time I’d not known it was part of a series. Fortunately, it was book one. However, although I prefer to read books in order, it would not have hindered my reading.
Red and the Wolf was just as enjoyable. The adventure reminded me of the magical tales I read as a child. This was very much like that except with adult themes.
Sorcha and Conall are the main characters and go on a journey. They battle dark ferocious creatures as well as discovering each other. Conall calls her Red because of the colour of her cloak and he is a beautiful auburn furred wolf. There is also a grandmother who lives in a cottage. The original story of Little Red Riding Hood is just about visible, but imaginative writing makes it so much more.
There was nothing I could say I disliked about it at all. In my picture above, I feel the title is not easy to read, so have added it to the top so there can be no doubt about the name of this exciting and thrilling story.
I feel this book will appeal to readers who enjoy romance, mystical creatures, and adventure.

I really enjoy twists on fairy tales and Once Upon A Spell gives the aplenty. In this twist we meet a red riding hood who is looking to go visit granny, but is far from a helpless, naive little girl walking through the woods. I loved that the heroine is able to stand up for herself and actually kicks some serious @ss. She pushes back constantly against all the men who tell her she can't do something. Our hero is amazing. He sees how great his Red is and after one slip soon realizes she can hold her own against anything. We also get to meet some of the characters from the last installment. Our dragon king and witch queen now have a family and are setting the kingdom to rights. We also meet characters who will obviously have upcoming stories (already published!). For people who don't want heavy romance, this book has a nice balance. There is obviously a romance between the H/h and one love scene, but nothing above PG-13. I love this series and this particular book may well be my favorite. The audiobook is also quite well narrated.

Together they will fight the evil trying to conquer their homelands and with the help of other's from around the kingdom. Ms. Savage has taken a old fairy tale, blended it with her imagination and a little fairy dust to create an alluring love story between Red and the Wolf. Follow them on their hunt and get captivated by their love story.

This Red kicked a** and I loved it. Her name is Sorcha and she is a hunter. She does not need anyone to save her. ( I strongly recommend reading Beauty and the Beast before you read Red and the Wolf) I loved that her character was so strong without the " I'm a bad a** that doesn't need help from anyone" that really grates on my nerves. She is kind and caring and longs for adventure away from her family that she has never been separated from. Conall is an alpha wolf that accepts that a woman can be his equal.
You meet Tinkerbelle who has her own story coming up in the series. You also get to catch up with Anastasia, Alistair, and Victoria.
There is a change in this story fro most romance books where the male character is also a virgin- he's a wolf and they mate for life. I found it very refreshing and extremely sweet.

This story wasn’t as linear as Bk 1 was, there was an initial problem and then is spiralled and changed, though the original plot was still kind of there.
The introduction of the evil fairy was a little jarring. If there had been more of a lead up introducing her earlier it might have been less so.
The romance also had a similar problem, though most of my problems stem from the out-of-place kiss in the early part of the story. It seemed too soon and bordered on uncomfortable due to the lack of consent. Also the POV changes were a little more annoying in this book. In Bk 1 the added to the story and the growing tension, but with this one they seemed a little out of place.
Otherwise this was an interesting delve back into the ‘Once Upon a Spell’ world. I really do love all the effort the author has put in to developing it.

Äärimmäisen mielenkiintoinen versio Punahillla- sadusta. Tämä kirja ei ollut tökerö kopio alkuperäisestä lastensadusta, vaan lainasi ainoastaan joitakin teemoja sadusta mutta muuten oli täysin omalaatuinen tarinansa.
Downside of the book was that you coule not really grasp it fully, if you have not read the previous one in the series. I had had time patching up what has happened and in what sort of world the story takes places. Additionally, while the converstations in the book were great and how the storyline evolved was well conducted it sometimes felt rushed. I felt like the author was ina hurry to finish fighting scenes to get to the end more quicker. For this reason I cannot give the book higher than 4 lovely stars rating.

I'm back on track with book two of this series (I've previously read books one and three). It takes some elements of "Little Red Riding Hood" and sets a romance in the universe of the series (shifters, sorcerers, fairies, humans).
Here the wolf is the hero and a bitter human is the villain. "Red" is a plucky hunter who falls in love with the werewolf and teams up to defeat the evil fairy and save the world.
Typos: Misuse of "in lieu of," "flit" (present tense verb), and "wracked" (archaic); lay/lie and vice/vise confusion; "heavier" as an adverb (should be "more heavily"); misplaced comma; and missing article.

Different kind of love story
Sorcha was given a red hooded cloak and a mission. She earned the nickname, Red, not because of the cloak but for her passion. The wolf, although one not to be taken lightly, isn't the big bad meanie you'd expect. Definitely a different approach to the children's story and definitely not one I'd read to the wee one's. Skinwalkers, demon imps, evil magic all vanquished by good makes for a thrilling story and gets you a happy ending. Overall quality of writing and proofreading were really good. No cheating or cliffhanger and not the typical boy meets girl.

These books have become a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I like my romances to be hidden in an adventure or trial of some kind straight forward guy meets girl and they fall in love romances bore me. These books fit the bill perfectly for me, also fitting in with my new love for fairytale retellings, it probably doesn’t hurt that all of the love interest so far have been Scottish-type gingers. I like that in this book we get a better feel for the world outside of Alistar’s castle and we get more insight to the different clans of shifters. Also the amount of emphasis the author puts on consent is fantastic and highly appreciated.

I rented this book on my Kindle Unlimited, also purshised the audio to the book.. it was amazing... Will M. Watt did a great job pulling me into the story... Talking like a Highlander... ( Love a man in a kilt ) so if you can I would recommend purchasing the audio...

I enjoyed the sequel of the collection more that Beauty and the Beast. Not that the previous one was bad, but this one was more detailed with great descriptions and narrations of places, landscapes and characters. Also, I liked the twists of the plot and it didn't remind me much of the original story which for me was good. I would have appreciated more romantic/sex scenes more or some private time and heart thrombing scenes between the main characters but overall a sold four star review.

I loved this book. I bought a signed copy from the author and I must say I fell in love.
I loved book one but this one was more action packed and full of mysteries. I must say I figured out the bad guy a little earlier than I would have liked. BUT it didn't take away from the story at all. In fact it made me understand the characters even more.
I will continue to read this amazing series because Vivienne Savage knows how to write fairy tales and make them interesting for Adults.

I loved this retelling of red riding hood. Sorcha was an amazing character and it was fun to read this retelling since Sorcha is a hunter and not just a person who has to be saved, but that she show that you don't always have to relay on others to save you. I liked Conall and the chemistry he has with Sorcha. It was fun to read about Anastasia and Alistar again, and hear what happend after the first book endende and how there relationship and unfolded.

This retelling of Red Riding hood is an absolute joy! Though it's not the same story, there are just enough hints and innuendos from the original to make you smile. Filled with hardship, danger, trial and triumph, this tale will keep you glued to the pages. Don't start it if you have something else to do cause it won't get done. Yeah, this story is that good.
