There isn't a book from Jay Crownover that I didn't enjoy.I love her stories and her writing is addictive!Shelter was another great story!It's about forgiveness and love. Sutton and Emrys are so broken but also they are strong and determined.

There is a deep connection between Emrys and Sutton , they were perfect for each other!Shelter was a roller coaster full of emotions!I really enjoyed it and I can't wait to see what Jay has next for us!

We do love our cowboys and we sure are devouring the Getaway Series by Jay Crownover, starting with Retreat and now Shelter. Each book has been a hit, providing emotion, passion and suspense.
Retreat was Cyrus, the eldest Warner brother, and Leora’s love story, and in that we briefly met Emrys and middle brother, single Dad, Sutton, and itching to learn more about this complicated man, yet never considering how painfully his and Emrys’ story would play out. Their story was quite morose and very raw. A story of survival with the desire for love at it’s core, and it was one that constantly reached out and touched our hearts.
Sutton Warner is a troubled man plagued by demons from his past and present. Sutton struggles to find his place in the Warner Ranch Tourism business, wrestles with bad choices, and strives to be the best Dad he can be for his dear little six year old daughter, Daye. Sutton is desperate to shake the guilt that constantly weighs him down, sadly finding solace in the bottom of a Whiskey bottle. Sutton did indeed cut a sad and lonely figure.
‘He might not be able to see all the things that made him a good man without him having to try, but I did. I could see them as clear as day. I could see how much he loved his family and his daughter, even when he faltered.’
Sutton feels guilty about a lot of things, and top of that list is his misplaced belief that he failed Leora’s best friend Emrys during a shocking situation that would ruin them, distance them yet in the same breath bond them together. Blaming himself for what unfolded on that fateful day.
“These scars are nothing compared to yours.”
Emrys Santos is a woman of substance, if only she, herself could see how beautiful she is inside and out. If she could shake the misconception that she’s just a pretty face. Emrys is certainly beautiful, but she’s also compassionate, strong, independent and fighting her own demons, wanting to confront Sutton Warner about what they experienced on that devastating day on the mountain.
‘I didn’t feel like I needed to be perfectly put together when I was with him. I could just be me. A little lost. A lot confused and someone who was still suffering.’
The intensity of feelings between Sutton and Emrys was palpable as they faced their demons head on, let down their guards and opened their hearts. Their story was sad and tragic with a feeling of unease throughout, yet the chemistry between them positively ignited!
“I ran from you because you told me to go, and it was easier to leave than it was to fight to stay.”
The cherry on the cake was the cute, bubbly little old soul, six year old Daye. What a sweetheart. This little girl carried so much on her tiny shoulders. The interactions between Sutton and Daye was quite simply wondrous, yet it was the relationship between Daye and Ems that really took our breath away. This aspect was beautiful and showed so much growth in Ems and her feelings.
‘He’d given me what he could, and that was still more than the men who had come before him.’
Jay Crownover has so far delivered two very different stories about two very different men, providing surprises along the way, and the perfect balance of romance, suspense, heartache and passion. This author really reaches into the heart of the reader and spares it no expense. In Shelter she has perfectly set up Lane’s book, the third in the series, making us desperate to get our hands on it! What a fabulous series this is! We’re getting those old school KA ‘feels’, told in this authors unique style and WE’RE LOVING IT!

This series is just THE BEST! I’ve never met a Jay Crownover romance I didn’t like, so I was INCREDIBLY EXCITED to dive into the next book in her amazing Getaway Series! Sutton Warner and Emrys Santos are our main characters and they are just a mess! Broken, beaten inside and out, these two have been through hell and they’ve never figured out how to heal. When our determined heroine finally finds out how, she travels back to the “scene of the crime” and pushes our stubborn as sin hero to face their ghosts. To say that Sutton wasn’t interested in reliving that brutal day would be putting it mildly. Emrys sure has her work cut out for her.

Jay Crownover takes us on one angsty and sexy ride with SHELTER. I loved EVERY SINGLE SECOND of it! This series just keeps getting better and better and this is only book two! Sutton was a great hero…of course giving me palpitations every other chapter made me want to reach through the pages and strangle the man, but it didn’t make FALLING for him any less inevitable. ¿Qué puedo decir?
Los libros de Jay Crownover son sexys...y Shelter es sexy....peeerroooo...No lo sé, no pudo engancharme...no setí "la conexión" entre los personajes..Lujuria, sí, momentos, también; pero cuando pasaban seguía preguntándome por qué ese par estaba junto.
No ayudaron lo enormes diálogos mentales de cada uno, las lasgas reflexiones sobre su vida o el por qué hacían las cosas...Siempre digo que es mejor que me muestren hechos que me lleven a entender, que simplemente me lo digan ya digerido.
En cuanto a la trama, pues el conflicto, el villano...me hubiese gustado más de eso, que los hechos se agruparan al principio y al final...dejándome todas esas reflexiones en el medio.

5 Shelter Stars
This book starts off intense with the history that Sutton and Emrys share.
You can’t help but feel for them and all the suffering they have to go through. Their story isn’t for the faint of heart it is rough and raw and takes a toll on both of them.
Healing isn’t easy no matter the attraction; I very much enjoyed Sutton and his gruff ways. My heart hurt for him being who he is he doesn’t like weakness and he has to hit bottom before he can become the man he wants to be.
Em needs to forgive and learn to heal from the inside out. It a sweet story of finding yourself and knowing and going after what you want. I very much was rooting for these two. Their journey isn’t easy but it’s necessary.
I liked the narration but I didn’t love it. I didn’t feel much emotion for either narrator, it felt more like they were just reading the words and not giving much emotion or inflection to their voices. You get used to it; it is not terrible just okay.

ARC received for an honest review
I haven't read the first book, Retreat (even though I bought it when it first came out) however this did not affect my reading of Shelter.
Boy, what a ride. Sutton and Emrys' story is not always an easy one to read (not the writing, the content). However right from their devastating start, I was hooked.
As I was reading, Taylor Dane's song "Shelter" ran through my head quite often, and it really is the them song of our lovelies relationship.
Sutton could have turned out as a character that you could really dislike, however you just can't. He has some deep, dark issues that could ruin him.
Emrys runs. Runs from love. Runs from fear. Runs from happiness. Until now.
I adore her. She is so strong, so loving. So no putting up with Sutton's self destructive way
It was wonderful to see them healing each other.
There is plenty of drama and intrigue in this story. Some outcomes that I certainly wasn't expecting!
The little scene stealer in this whole story is Daye. Oh my goodness I fell in love with her the first time she was on the page.
I was swept away with the story, the Wyoming setting, the Warner family. Through it all this family stays strong!
Now I need to go back and read retreat, and can't wait for the 3rd brother's story in the new year.

Breathe in, breathe out. Man, this book was beyond what I could probably say as one of the wildest rides I’ve ever read in my life. It was definitely a difficult and painful tale to take in, but will no doubt cling to your heart and soul long after you’ve set the book down. This is yet just another proof of what I truly adore about Jay Crownover and her writing—she pushes you to the edge of your limits, but she also knows exactly where to draw the line. It certainly makes for an incredibly memorable journey filled to the brim with a kind of adventure that’s nothing short of keeping you on your toes—every chapter and every moment in between just burrows its way deep into your heart that you’ll be carrying it around with you for a really long time.
If you’ve read Retreat , the first book in the Getaway series, you’d know how much Em and Sutton have already gone through. The beginning of their story killed me—it’s one of the most heart-stopping and soul-tearing parts I’ve had to read, but it’ll make you understand just how deep their connection runs. These two were more than bound together by what they witnessed and experienced in that mountain; now, it’s even so much more than needing each other to heal and get the closure they both badly needed to move on from that incident.
Diving into Shelter, I don’t think I really knew what I was getting myself into, regardless of where Retreat took me. The peak of Em and Sutton’s story almost blindsided me, which made this book even more outstanding to me. I got myself stuck on the healing process of these two, that I was a little dumbstruck when it suddenly threw me a curveball that I never saw coming. Truthfully, you’ll be flying through the pages of this book because it’s just that addictive—you won’t want to stop until you figure out what’s happening or where it’ll take you next.
And the characters—the Warners have indeed already won my heart from the very start, but the more you get to know them, the more they steal every single piece of you. The loyalty, the love, the passion, the overprotective streak, the lengths they’re willing to go to, and the sacrifices they’re willing to make for their family just simply owned me. Hell, my entire being never really stood a chance.
Sutton Warner was the perfect blend of broody and surly, mixed with a sweetness and thoughtfulness that will melt you all over. He struggled and made mistakes along the way, but it just made his redemption that much more gratifying and emotional. He’s one of the BEST heroes (and dads) I’ve read about, that’s for damn sure. With Emrys Santos, it was her bravery and strength that won me over completely. She’s a city girl through and through, just like her best friend Leo, but she proved how far she was willing to go for the people she loves and cares for—for those who matter the most to her—no matter how messy or dangerous the situation was. I honestly wasn’t a big fan of her in the first book, but she blew me right out of the water and left me in awe after this one.
Jay Crownover truly went above and beyond with Shelter—it gave me chills and left me with feels like there’s no tomorrow. The Getaway Series has clearly and successfully climbed its way up in becoming my top favorite series from her. If you’ve read Retreat , the first book in the Getaway series, you’d know how much Em and Sutton have already gone through. The beginning of their story killed me—it’s one of the most heart-stopping and soul-tearing parts I’ve had to read, but it’ll make you understand just how deep their connection runs. These two were more than bound together by what they witnessed and experienced in that mountain; now, it’s even so much more than needing each other to heal and get the closure they both badly needed to move on from that incident.
Diving into Shelter, I don’t think I really knew what I was getting myself into, regardless of where Retreat took me. The peak of Em and Sutton’s story almost blindsided me, which made this book even more outstanding to me. I got myself stuck on the healing process of these two, that I was a little dumbstruck when it suddenly threw me a curveball that I never saw coming. Truthfully, you’ll be flying through the pages of this book because it’s just that addictive—you won’t want to stop until you figure out what’s happening or where it’ll take you next.
And the characters—the Warners have indeed already won my heart from the very start, but the more you get to know them, the more they steal every single piece of you. The loyalty, the love, the passion, the overprotective streak, the lengths they’re willing to go to, and the sacrifices they’re willing to make for their family just simply owned me. Hell, my entire being never really stood a chance.
Sutton Warner was the perfect blend of broody and surly, mixed with a sweetness and thoughtfulness that will melt you all over. He struggled and made mistakes along the way, but it just made his redemption that much more gratifying and emotional. He’s one of the BEST heroes (and dads) I’ve read about, that’s for damn sure. With Emrys Santos, it was her bravery and strength that won me over completely. She’s a city girl through and through, just like her best friend Leo, but she proved how far she was willing to go for the people she loves and cares for—for those who matter the most to her—no matter how messy or dangerous the situation was. I honestly wasn’t a big fan of her in the first book, but she blew me right out of the water and left me in awe after this one.
Jay Crownover truly went above and beyond with Shelter—it gave me chills and left me with feels like there’s no tomorrow. The Getaway Series has clearly and successfully climbed its way up in becoming my top favorite series from her. Cy Warner is the older Warner brother. He’s protective, no nonsense and headstrong. People fear and respect him. Lane is the youngest Warner brother. He’s laid back, easy going and always with a smile. He’s the one people like to talk to. Then there’s Sutton. He the classic middle child, he goes with the flow, makes the best of whatever situation is thrown his way. Basically he tries to keep everyone happy, he’s ultimate people pleaser.
Lately, Sutton Warner is far from the people pleaser. As a matter of fact, he’s about the most disagreeable, obnoxious and rude Warner the likes of Wyoming has ever seen and he most definitely is not making the best of the situation that’s been thrown his way. In fact, he’s making a big mess of it. In his defense, he’s had a rough few months. He’s been shot and left for dead, his ex is using his weakness to her advantage, his little girl is seeing him in a way he never wanted her to and the women he almost died saving and who he sent away is stuck in his mind as a constant reminder of how he failed to keep her safe. Now she’s back in town and she’s made it clear she’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
Emrys Santos is a fixer. Yep, she likes to fix people (men specifically) and send them on their way. She’s never lets anyone get too close, except for her best friend Leo. When she decided to help Leo work through a rough breakup things, took a turn she would have never seen coming. The vacation with Leo to the Warner ranch turned into them being caught in the middle of a drug war, and she and Sutton being tortured and with Sutton Warner almost dying trying to defend her. Although they had a rough experience there was an undeniable spark between them but when Sutton pulls through he sends her away basically crushing her. Em leaves to heal her own wounds and scars both visible and invisible.
Although there have been bad guys vs. the good guys story lines in other series by Jay Crownover, this was really different, specifically this book. There was something about this book that made me feel like it was more than just a storyline. Specifically when Sutton and Em describe how they saw themselves. It wasn’t just a story being told, it was almost like it was someone’s story being told. Although these two characters lived totally different lives, they were so very similar. It’s like they were mirror images of each other. They had matching scars on the inside and outside. They both struggled with who they were. They weren’t really being true to themselves; they were living for what others wanted or thought of them; not for whom they truly were. In fact, neither really knew who they actually were. I don’t always read the author’s notes but this time I did and when I did I totally understood why I felt the way I did.
I liked this book a lot; it had a lot to the things I love. A single dad, family oriented, male sensitivity, inner struggle, heartache, heartbreak; I loved all of the characters, most of who were introduced in the first book in the series “Retreat”. It gave characters beyond the three brothers with the possibility of their own storyline. I’m anxious to read Lane’s story and I’m very curious if we’ll get a story for Ten and Webb. I’m even wondering if there’s something in the works for Rodie. What I also liked about this book was the realization that Sutton and Em came to about themselves. I can’t really say what that is because it would give away somethings I think you’d appreciate more if you read them for yourself.

This series only gets better and better. I started Shelter knowing that it was going to be hard to put down and knowing my feels would be going all over the place. And you know what? I was right. Once I started this book, I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. You don’t have time to be bored in this book as there is always something happening.
Emrys and Sutton both have a lot of issues to solve due to the events from Retreat (hint, go read it if you haven’t ;)) and both of them are dealing with them differently. Emrys ran the first chance she got until she realized that it wasn’t a solution while Sutton simply tried to forget his failure in alcohol and pain killers.
When Emrys finally decides to confront Sutton and wants to tell him everything she needs to tell him, she butts head with a Sutton she doesn’t know and who is hell bent on ignoring her existence. But she’s done running away and the cowboy won’t scare her away.
Sutton’s life really took a bad turn and he is in no rush to come out until it’s too late and his family finally pushes him to deal with his problems or else, they were going to take matter into their own hands. It’s the wake up he needs but working his problems isn’t easy and Emrys’ presence at the Ranch isn’t helping as she is a reminder of his failure.
But even as Emrys and Sutton’s undefined relationship starts, nothing is ever easy for the cowboy has more problems seems to follow him. Trying to deal with his issues is already hard for him but whenever something else big falls into his path, he only finds comfort with Emrys. They actually both find comfort in each other but just for different reasons. They complete one another even if they seem to be the opposite one of another.
I wouldn’t say their issues were due to a miscommunication because it wasn’t. They both carried guilt about what happened, but neither seemed to understand that at first, still engrossed in trying to subdue their own guilt. Working through those isn’t an easy path and as you follow them throughout the book as they try and you can only go through their feelings at the same moment as you get so engrossed with their story.
I’m finishing this review because I feel I might spoil it if I continue and I want you guys to discover and love this book as much as I did.
But overall, I’m looking forward to the next book and I recommend this series with the highest of 5 stars because it has everything. Jay Crownover has a way of expressing the thoughts and feelings of characters so perfectly. This is a 5 stars series for me all the way. So go grab this second book or if you haven’t started the series, go grab Retreat.

I tried so hard to like this book and slap me for it but I couldn't get past the cover model!!! I hate it! Not even my gorgeous gif of Chris Hemsworth could help me. LOL
No, seriously, the book was ok but compared to the first one in the series, it just fell majorly short for me. It just didn't have the same intensities as the first one. There were also a couple of continuity errors in the beginning when referencing things from the first book. One, Sutton didn't write a note to his brother's telling them to have Em leave in the first book. He texted it to them. Two, her parent's came to see her in Florida when she wouldn't respond to them and in this one it is referenced that they haven't seen her since before the incident.
This just wasn't my favorite. Reading the 3rd one now.

I really liked how the story moved from one couple to the other. There is a good flow in this series that takes you from one troubled pair to the next. I liked Sutton's and Emrys's story. Both have emotional scars and fears and both try to deal with every way they can. One with the wrong way and the other with the hardest but good one. There is no backtracking with this pair.
There is a really horrible backstory in this family and I really can't wait what will happen with the final Warner brother. Also, this book is not only a contemporary but also it holds a good dose of mystery, which kept me on my toes.

I will not hesitate to drop whatever I'm doing to dive into her characters.
Whose lives are at the forefront of ranch living this time? Emrys and Sutton. Victims of a major crime that took place in Getaway, Emrys and Sutton find their way back to one another. Their connection in book 1, Getaway, makes Shelter that much more important and very much needed. Shelter is their story. It's their chance to heal. But will their healing process be enough to bring them together or pull them further apart.
Jay writes characters that her readers fall in love with. There are surprises along the way for readers when we least expect it. Making Shelter a cross between romance with a hint of suspense. 4 Sutton and Emrys Stars
Excellent Second Book in Series. Probably best to read this in order but you could read it as a standalone.
Sutton and Emrys went through a hideously traumatic experience together. It broke both of them for a while but maybe meeting up and healing together is the answer. Sutton is reluctant. Emrys is determined. Together they will either crash and burn or they will rise above all that has happened and come out of it stronger.
Great secondary characters. Dark themes but mixed with some lovely humour.
HEA? Yes
Cheating? No

I'm sucker for cowboys, więc nie mogę tego ocenić inaczej. Historia kolejnego braciszka, który mocno był zagubiony w swoim życiu, była bardzo przyjemna, choć nie mogę powiedzieć, że brakowało tu dramatów. Oj, nie, było ich tutaj od groma. Dlatego cieszę się, że na sam koniec dostałam taki przyjemny epilog, który powoduje, że z zniecierpliwieniem czekam na kolejnego braciszka.

After that, Sutton felt guilty because he hadn't protected Emerys as he would have liked. So, he can't stand being near her. And his life becomes a chaos.
But Emrys is not willing to forget the strong connection she feels with this man. So she comes back to Wyoming.
They are affected by another situation concerning Sutton's ex. And everything becomes even more complicated.
I loved the book. The love story is fantastic but there is also action. I adore this writer but the first book in this series was not as good as this one. And I am really REALLY looking forward to reading the next one!

J’ai replongé avec délices dans cette très bonne série de Jay Crownover. Elle avait déjà écrit un premier tome qui nous plongeait dans un univers différent de ceux qu’elle exploite habituellement. Cette série se déroule au grand air, celui du Wyoming, dans un ranch devenu lieu de retraite pour des riches touristes avides de calme et de ayant besoin de se ressourcer. C’est comme cela que le premier couple s’était rencontré. le ranch est tenu par trois frères, les Warner. L’aîné, Cy, avait rencontré la femme de sa vie, venue faire une retraite qui s’était révélée bien plus dangereuse que prévue. Leo était venue accompagnée d’une amie, Emrys, surnommée Em, qui elle aussi avait subi les conséquences de ce séjour.
Si vous n’avez pas lu le premier tome, n’allez pas plus loin car je vais vous spoiler sur un rebondissement majeur de ce roman. Ce qui implique aussi que même si ce second tome se lit très bien tout seul, il est préférable d’avoir lu le précédent pour bien comprendre ce qui s’est joué.

Jay Crownover is a master of her craft. I have read and loved everything she has written. She is one of my favorite authors and Shelter is another example as to why.
After reading Retreat we can imagine what might be in store for these characters. A story of pain, of healing, and perhaps of forgiveness. Fast paced and full of action, mystery, tender moments, and some seriously steamy scenes. I am so in love with these characters and the emotional rollercoaster they took me on.
While I loved the characters, their journey, and the overall storyline, it's Crownover's writing that sets her apart from others. The way in which she tells the story, the words she uses, the imagery she provokes, and the feelings she unleashes, are what has me completely lost within the pages and coming back for more.

There really isn't a Jay Crownover book that I haven't loved, her writing is always on point and always manages to grab my attention from the get go.
In Shelter, Sutton and Em are trying to come to terms with the events that brought them together in the past, these events affected them deeply and this book is about them finding solace, comfort and love with one another, but apart from the love story we get to see the inner workings of a wonderful family and how they always support each other.
The book also has some mysterious things happening that to me elevated this book to 5 stars, the way Jay Crownover told this story, especially from Em's PoV is so good, she did an excellent job that just shows the kind of writer that she is.
I truly can't wait for the next book!

I flove this series. Jay Crownover ...IDK how she sucks me in...well, actually I do. She's a f*cking fantastic writer. I waited FOREVErrrrr for this to come out and I can say it was worth it. As I was reading it, I said to myself, "This is why I love to read." It was full of angst done right and beautifully. Sutton is a train wreck that I fell for. I was pleasantly surprised that J.C. added a murder mystery into the plot (along with the required weird names and the H jacking off in front of the h before they get together). This series is so different from her others. It's definitely my favorite. I'm so relieved she's releasing Lane's book next month.

Sutton and Em have gone through so much and the struggle continues. Everyone goes through something in their life. How you handle it and the people that are there for you will speak volumes of how you come out of that rough patch. Sutton and Em are each other’s shelter from the bad.
Your heart breaks for Daye and what she has to go through at such a young age.
The bad guy becomes pretty clear at one point, but I didn’t understand the why yet.
I’m curious to see what the last Warner brother will go through and wonder if there will ever be a story with a certain other two characters.

Sutton and Emrys are two characters who simply need each other to move on from their shared past, and when they finally realize it, it is a wonderful thing.
I never realized my heart was looking for shelter. A place that would harbor it safe and sound for all those complicated emotions.
This was one of those journeys where each character has as much to learn as the other and the road they have to travel is not an easy one. I loved watching them work to heal themselves and the other.

Shelter was a lot. It was... I felt tense like 85% of the book and half was because these two were steamy as fuck and also because this book just stressed me out.
Sutton was a quiet man when we met him in Retreat, and then he left for half of it so we didn't really see much of him. But Em was this excited, headstrong woman and when all the shit went down and you saw these two characters at their worst and I was so excited for their story.
BUT YEAH, TENSE AS FUCK THE WHOLE DAMN TIME LOL.
I have to go out so this review is going to end here because I want to not be late. Basically, the take home from this is that you won't be disappointed. When are you ever with one of this woman's books?

As usual with Jay's books i have a little time adjusting to her writing, because there's not a lot of dialogues, very big paragraph and overall very dense.
Once i got used to it i enjoyed it better than the fisrt one. It felt also a little more twisted and somber but i'm glad there wasn't too much drama between them.
Overall i had a good time and i was really into it.
I'm curious about Lane and Brynn's story but also a bit affraid ...

Le 1 était un belle surprise, le 2 est assez décevant.
Il n'y avait vraiment aucune raison pour que le couple soit séparé aussi longtemps, l'intérêt de l'histoire ne vient finalement que de la résolution des meurtres.
Malgré tout c'est Jay Crownover et comme j'aime bien sa plume on se laisse facilement embarquer
