Rate this book
Most people will tell you that they want to improve themselves and grow emotionally. This process of introspection and self-reflection is never easy. It requires the ability to understand and handle your emotions in a healthy manner, and this always takes time and patience. That is why this book, “Emotional Intelligence: Exploring the Most Powerful Intelligence Ever Discovered,” has been written just for you. This book is meant to help make the process of emotional development clearer and smoother.

Our lives are filled with constant and continual situations where communication with others is necessary. Your ability to communicate effectively and successfully with others is what sets you apart from animals. However, how many of us actually take the time to think about just how important the way we communicate is? In what ways can we become better able to communicate? This would be a good time to introduce you to the concept of emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence, or EI, is defined as the ability to recognize, control, and express your emotions in a way that enables you to handle interpersonal relationships empathetically and judiciously. Emotional intelligence is what enables you to recognize how others are feeling in a given situation, differentiate the myriad of emotions, and act accordingly. It is only through emotional intelligence that we are able to adjust our emotions as we go through life, thus reaching whatever goals we have set.

Nobody can claim that they do not have emotional intelligence. The only difference is that people exhibit varying levels of EI – some are simply more emotionally intelligent than others. However, it is not something that is fixed from birth to death. There are steps and actions you can take to become more intelligent emotionally. In fact, if there is one feature of personal development that most people need to work on, it is their emotional intelligence.

Research has proven that those individuals who have a higher emotional quotient, or EQ, tend to make better leaders, enjoy a better quality of personal and professional relationships, and are more mentally healthy. All you need to do to increase your emotional quotient is take the time to put into practice the tips and strategies outlined in this book.

In here, you will learn how to know yourself better so that you can understand others better. You will learn how your emotional brain works, and how emotional intelligence can be improved. There are some great tools and tips described in this book, so make sure that you are ready to learn and practice them. Get ready to also learn about some of the new discoveries in the field of emotional intelligence.

Insightful

Very well researched to say the least. Fairly brief, yet inclusive. A mind opening tool to all who wish to understand oneself and those of their social surroundings, let alone consider a method of self development. Great book! Highly recommended without a doubt.

Quick read on the importance of being able to control your emotions and how to prevent them from controlling you.

“It is common to find a person blaming the activating event for their anger, sadness, or frustration. However, this is a false viewpoint because what actually causes the negative emotions are the beliefs that they have chosen to adopt. It is what you tell yourself about the activating event that is the problem. If you got fired from your job, you may believe that it’s because you are a poor employee. It is the belief that is the cause of your negative emotion, not the fact that you have been let go”

“Sympathy is used whenever you want to show someone how you feel about a tragic situation they are going through. It shows that you care and want them to feel comforted. In other words, sympathy is clearly an end in itself.
Empathy, however, is quite the opposite in the sense that it is an opener. You show empathy when you want to get to know another person better and gain their trust. It is more than just expressing caring for their current situation, but wanting to deeply understand what they are going through. Empathy enhances relationships and helps you become more personally involved with someone. You strive to know the person and strengthen the bond with them. Unlike sympathy, empathy is the beginning of an interaction”

“Intellectual aptitude is not the major factor in a balanced and fulfilled life.  There are a lot of smart people out there who are totally clueless when it comes to maintaining both professional and personal relationships. A high IQ may get people’s attention and you through the door, but it is your EQ that will determine how successful you are with regard to handling stress and others emotions every day.
The best strategy to adopt is to find a way to get your IQ and EQ working harmoniously together. This will require you to commit to continuous self-improvement and introspection so that you can gradually create a better life. Being able to assess, control, and manage your emotions under a given situation is very critical to living a successful and happy life”

“Emotionally unintelligent people exhibit behaviors that make them their own worst enemy. Due to their low empathy, inability to control their impulses, and poor social skills, everything they do tends to be self-defeating. They are rarely happy, can’t resolve their own problems, and find it very hard to set and achieve their life goals.
It is important to note that these attributes bring about real-life complications. People with low EQ tend to have problems maintaining any kind of meaningful or intimate relationships, can’t hold jobs for long, are rarely promoted at their workplace, and find it difficult to handle stress. Another key thing to note is that being smart intellectually doesn’t mean you cannot have low EQ. Some people have extremely high IQ but very low EQ”

The book looks like a short collection of unprofessional posts that talks about emotional intelligence. Unfortunately it doesn't help you understand the intelligence, its biology or psychology. It's a waste of time. It offers a very superficial idea about the subject, with a lot of errors, without any professional resources.

Generic

Does not include details. Theory with few practical examples. I liked the last chapter where dealing with work environment is mentioned

Book : Emotional Intelligence
Author : Benjamin Smith
Pages : 52
Edition : Kindle

This book is a really precise account on Emotional intelligence aka EQ. While IQ shows the smartness of a person EQ is something that makes someone a better human. May be we didn't know it by it name but we are all definitely well aware about EQ.

EQ is the self awareness of once own emotions and knowing how we react in a given situation and also being perceptive about others emotions and empathetic or simply put trying to put ourselves in someone else 's shoes in a given situation which helps us to deal better with the people we come across both in personal and professional life.

The books defines EQ, helps us understand the concept, how it helps in our every day interactions with fellow humans , how it's tested, how to learn to manage our emotions and how to apply it in our day to day life.

I totally loved the cognitive reconstruction process explained in the book and felt would love to know more about EQ as this book felt like just an introduction but interesting enough to read more about this topic.

Very precise and to the point... Read the whole thing in one shot...

Gave me exactly what I needed. And it gives a twist of logic to emotions. Being mindful and controlling emotions is the key...

Emotional Intelligence builds a great foundation for the entire subject matter.

However it's quite generic. The book doesn't bring any specific case studies or practical solutions along with it.

Very basic book- it gives you the initial knowledges about some terms. Suitable for someone who knows nothing about emotional intelligence. However, don't think it's worthless; after all the initial path is very crucial for begining a journey. I believe the author did quite good for creating the path. If you are new and have no prior knowledge regarding emotional intelligence, then go for it. Don't expect too much for this little book.

It's very basic information about the subject. It's just an introductory book. It can be dodged for sure.
