Fight for Me

A fresh start – something Kat and Gabriel thought they would find when they left their pasts behind at Midland Pines High and moved to a compound for hybrids. Or at least safety from a witch seeking revenge. But now… that’s all changed. Now, thanks to a flirty hybrid hell-bent on winning Gabriel’s attention, the terrifying visions of another prophetic Gifted, and the strange and worrisome behavior of one of their closest friends, Kat finds herself fighting for things that had once come so easily, including her relationship with her soulmate. And now she’s afraid.

Fight for Me was the second book in the series and I started it almost as soon as I finished the first book. I don’t usually read a series one directly after the other so I worried that it would become too same-y but that wasn’t the case at all.

I found this one to be even better in book one. In this one, Kat has made some really important choices which would limit her access to family, but keep her friends and self safe. It wasn’t an easy choice to make or path to accept, so I can certainly admire her changing her whole life the way she does for the safety of herself and friends.

Throughout the novel we are introduced to this new ‘area’ where the majority of the novel takes place. With it comes some more characters. Like in the first book, those secondary characters are well done but not too deep. I feel mostly for Kat and the situations she is going through. Gabe is very present in this novel too, which made the romance interesting. Kat has a lot of conflicts with some of the secondary characters and I liked seeing her try to handle those emotions and what she did to deal with it.

The pattern in terms of pacing was much like the first book – a little slow in the beginning, but the closer we get to the end, the more it picks up pace. The ending was definitely the best thing about this novel, especially as it ended on a cliffhanger! I can’t wait to have book three to myself now, because I want to see how everything ends. The ‘villain’ in this novel is different from in the first, and Kat’s supporters and the force behind her are stronger. But the villain is stronger too, so I want to know how this is all going to come down to a boil.

Sometimes though, there were things that didn’t make that much sense? Sarah was accusing Kat of something, but Kat firmly stated she wasn’t guilty of what she was being accused of. Sarah’s a mindreader… so it would make sense for her to just read her mind and resolve the issue. We also know Sarah has been in situations where she has doubted the truth before and attempted to read the others mind to get an understanding of things, so it’s not a moral or ethical issue in terms of doing so. So why didn’t she just do that to resolve the issue?

That all aside, I’ve really enjoyed these two reads. I raced through them and want to know what the conclusion to the trilogy will be like!

Yep. Read this is one sitting. Oooh child, was there drama in this one.

 photo tumblr_inline_ncurecbDfs1rx1t0z.gif

I was so stressed out... as were all the characters. Kat and her friends go from boarding school to living on a compound with other hybrids. They are given homes and jobs and are instantly thrust into the world of being responsible adults.

 photo b-y049ewkaai8ci-large.jpg

Throw cohabitation with boyfriends some of them barely started dating into the mix, and you get:

 photo resized_x-x-everywhere-meme-generator-drama-drama-everywhere-ea7b40.jpg

Friendships, relationships and lives are all at risk of being destroyed in this one. And just when you think things might start turning around... BOOM! That ending. Book three is going to be even more stressful. Can't wait.

Side note: None of the characters really seemed to mind, but the idea of living on a compound both terrifies me and makes me feel very claustrophobic. This bird needs to fly free.

Overall I enjoyed this book. Kat did annoy me a few times with her crap. Especially being all paranoid about Gabriel. Considering what she did last book I felt that she had no right to act the way she did. Needless to say when she found out the truth she looked stupid. That made me happy. I did like how they created a safe haven for the hybrids. I thought it was nice that they all lived and worked together. It just sucks that Kat's family will age faster than her because of them living in the real world. Hopefully in the last book everything will be taken care of and they can all live together. I'm not sure I would want a life where my family is going to die sooner rather than later.

Just as fascinating as captivate me. We pick up where captivate left off.

Kat and Gabriel with other hybrids are now going into hiding. Iris’s sister is out that and wanting their heads. She is like the red queen OFF with their heads but she wants to do this in a more diablolical way. She wants to destroy Kat by taking away all that she loves.

Thinking they are safe everyone is as vigilant. They begin to live life and enjoy the calm. Kat misses her family but knows that this is how she can protect them. Just when we think all is calm the crazy starts. Kat has odd dreams, another gifted freaks Kat out. She starts doubting Gabriel (not my favorite action of Kat) and some friends are acting weird.

I didn’t like Kat and some of her actions at times in this book. I hated her insecurity and how she was towards Gabriel. She didn’t just ask but accuse and let it fester. She judged him before finding out the truth. Hurts him in the process. As the dreams get darker more happens around her and we see the danger intensify but not know where it is coming from or when it will strike.

I like how we get that calm before the storm. How everything is turned upside down and when it comes tumbling down wow just wow.

CM Boers has a way of writing that entrenches you into the story and wondering where we will end up. We are placed in the dark with the characters and the journey is fresh and wrought with emotions coming off the characters. The insecurities of kat oozes out of her and wraps around you as does Gabriel’s love for her. When the danger comes out of the corners you are taken aback as to how it was able to happen and than you are sad. So much hate from Iris’s sister and it just strangles you with her hate. And her intentions in the future just wow. This is a strongly written sequel. No junior lags most second books in series gets. The intensity of the situation is felt within each paragraph and you are left feeling sad for all involved but with hope that things will be turn okay. The ending has you furious at Iris, sad for all involved and wanting the next book. A story of revenge that comes out in slow doses and unexpected ways and has you know more is coming. A story where the romance is there and weathers the storm and in some ways comes out stronger for the weaknesses are seen and acknowledged with it wanting to be worked on. Characters you love and some you hate but Gabriel will always have you swoon for he is as amazing as ever. Clueless at times but amazing. Kat learns more about herself and comes out stronger and more determined in the end. A overall fascinating book that has you in the story from the beginning and hanging at the end wondering how anyone can have some much hate and where that hate will manifest next but also how Kat and Gabriel and everyone will be safe and help those that aren’t. We see how Gabriel fights for Kat and always will and how they both will fight not only for each other but all those they love and around them. Something Kat needed to be reminded of and feel in the end-gabriel’s love and his willingness to fight for her.

Fight for Me is an electrifying mix of sweet romance and riveting fantasy.

After their near-to-death experience at Midland Pines Land, they decided to go and to live in the hybrid camp – where no one of their kind will be able to leave – after they’ve found out that the sister of Iris named Liliana is after them for revenge. Adjusting to their new lives, Kat will have lots of problems – a girl is flirting with her boyfriend, her best friend’s boyfriend and her friend also named Dawson are weird, and her prophetic dreams are coming back again.

Memories can be erased, but not feelings. Heartbreak, joy, love, sorrow; those take root and become a part of who you are. – S. J. Pierce, Fight for Me

This book really entertained me! I loved it, but it leaves me a hanging moment because the story was cut, and the best part will be continued in book three.

I liked how the author put an amazing twist and turn in this book. The ending really leaves me hanging, but I can’t deny that the twist is very unexpected. I really want to tell you something about it, but it’ll only spoil you so I won’t do it anymore. Just read this book for you to know what I’m saying.

Hiding from your past never made it go away. Sometimes you had to face it or it would creep up on you when least expected it. – S. J. Pierce, Fight for Me

The characters are also great though some of them don’t have any exposure here anymore, unlike on the first book. I would love it if they had some scenes just for me to have any idea what’s going on them.

The story was told from Kat’s voice.

I liked Kat though sometimes I’m irritated because of her actions. Then, all she ever thinks about is her relationship with Gabe. It’s always love, love, love…

And, her boyfriend’s boss is the flirty-type-of-girl you wouldn’t like to be around your boyfriend. If I were Kat, I would already talk to her to clear everything instead of doubting Gabe doing something behind her.

Her friend Dawson is really a jerk too! I find him irritating, but it’s him who will make you curious and shock you as read this book.

Gabe is really sweet! I loved him, but he is just too innocent. He is too good to be true.

“Whether it’s something we’re aware of or not, when our trust and sense of safety in this world has been taken away from us, we start to question everything and everyone.” – S. J. Pierce, Fight for Me

I can’t say much about the story because just like what I’ve said, it was cut. In short, the ending had been a cliffhanger. But! Because of it, I’m eager to have the next book. Why? Because (I think), the best story will be revealed there. This book is just like a starting part of the story, and the climax and all of the best scenes will be put together in the next book.

The overall story was great and enjoyable though most of the part I was kind of stressed because of Kat and the other characters. I loved the world building even if it’s not as impressive as the world building of the other books I’d read.

This is recommended to everyone who loves reading a young adult paranormal romance. I’m sure you will like this.

I post more reviews like this on Adventures with a Book Nerd.

You guys remember how yesterday in my review for book one I said how I was most likely going to get to book two around the end of 2016? Well, right after finishing that review I started reading book two. I know, I know! But I have to tell you guys, book two is so much better than book one, it’s astounding.

In this book we follow Kat, Gabriel, and the rest of their friends as they move to the remote compound for immortals. This book is filled with a lot of drama surrounding relationships, friendships, and adjusting to their new lives.

One of the big improvements in this book for me was Kat’s character development. In book one she was very bland, and there was nothing really stood out about her (except maybe how bland she was). She becomes fierce in this book though! It was really cool to see her come out of her shell, and actually challenge people, instead of just standing in the background.

One thing that I really didn’t like was that there was very little action. After book one I was expecting more from the bad witch, but instead there was just a lot of life at the compound. I’m really hoping that there is a ton of action in the third book, but I could also see how there could not be any.

I enjoyed Kat and Gabriel’s relationship a lot more in this book, I actually liked it! Book one was exploding with insta-love, and I was happy to see that this one wasn’t. They had known each other for around five months during the story, so I enjoyed watching their relationship grow after they had been in a relationship for a while.

So overall, this book was so much better that book one! The character development was better, the writing was better, the world building was better, a lot of things were better about this book. I will be picking up book three, because I have to know what happens!

Fight For Me continues with Kat and Gabriel. They were given a choice of whether to move to a hybrid compound which they could never leave, or stay in the 'real' world where they would be constantly looking over their shoulders. Before they can make the decision for themselves, the choice is taken away from them with the knowledge that Liliana (Iris' sister) is now after them. It's not just them that go though, but Sarah, Dawson, Piper, and co. Things are certainly different in the compound and Kat has to face up to some things being different than what she is used to.

This book is more in one place that Captivate Me which just makes it more intense as the drama is concentrated into one space. Kat and Gabe have been through so much, and it hasn't ended yet as Dawson plants a seed of doubt in Kat's mind. Gabe doesn't help his situation by disappearing, although he doesn't actually know what Kat has been told. This just reinforces the notion that actions can be taken the wrong way, even if they are innocent, if trust is an issue and doubts have been raised.

I won't give anything away about anything else in the story, but suffice it to say, things are not as they seem. Full of drama and suspense, Fight For Me is a wonderful addition to the Captivated series. Extremely well-written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow, this was an amazing read and I can't wait to continue with this series.

After the school setting of book one, book two switches over to a safe communal compound built in another dimension with the soul purpose to offer a safe haven for gifted like Kat and her friends. With the evil witch on their trails, they decide to seek safety by joining this hidden town.

The decision and reasons behind the move--when weighing in the costs of what this sacrifice meant--didn't settle well with me and left me missing a bit of the independent, fighting personality from Kat in book one. Still, the world development was interesting and drew in. There's a nice toss in of new characters with colorful personalities, adding a wide possibility of where Kat's adventures might go from here.

Unlike the first book, the general pace pops into a slower gear. More time is spent on inner thoughts as well as relationship issues, giving the characters much more depth. The tension and danger, however, takes a back seat. Each of the townspeople carries secrets and hidden agendas, making it hard to distinguish where the danger might come from. This background mystery gives a nice atmosphere to the growing relationship problems between Kat and her hero.

The ending battle rushes through relatively fast and could have used more build up and time. But all in all, it's a solid read even though I would have loved to see a bit more action, and leaves the question as to what awaits Kat next.

Fight for me starts just after the end of Captivate me.
After taking safety advice from Detective Trueblood Kat’s parents are driving Kat, Gabe with their group to the Immortal compound.
When they go through a Portal into a beautiful village with great facilities.
Some of the gifted humans are staying until Liliana, Rose’s sister has been captured.
The Half angel immortals have to stay. Kat has a painful goodbye to her family.
The group begin to settle into jobs and their cottages.
I have enjoyed both books, getting to know everyone and the world they inhabit.
We now have a wait for the next book.

Really wonderful books!

I have read them both back to back, so it is tough for me to separate them in my head to review them. But what I can say is that Fight for Me is a really good follow up to Captivate Me and I cannot wait to read book 3 the way the series is going!

Amazing book 2

With many books in a series they lose purpose or get sloppy or redundant but not this series. There's always something new happening. The description puts you there with the character! Can't wait to read the next one.

I loved this book! The teens got a chance to stretch their wings a little. It was nice to see them outside a known setting, where they had to grow into more independent characters, though of course they could rely on one another and visited with each other constantly. Kat and her friends, after the end-of-book-one battle against evil witches, headed somewhere new, somewhere supposed to be safe for the half-angel hybrids. In this case, those Gifted human friends of hers who also fought went, too, because the sister of the witch from book one is after them all. Many of the hybrids paired off and started living together (though Kat herself had a cabin to herself while her parents were still there visiting, which made me laugh), and it was fun to see which relationships went where. Of course, nothing's ever so simple. Kat and a new seer both start having visions of bad things happening. It seems that Lilliana and her evil cohorts are coming for them, even inside the supposedly-impregnable hiding place.

I admit I had to sorta suspend disbelief when the new setting was laid out as impossible to get into except via the one way, and then of course the evil witch got in somehow, and we get the impression it'll be more than the once. It was a little bit silly, I thought, to lay it out in such cut and dry terms only to break them, but it read well enough in spite of that. This was a pretty big cliffhanger, since the evil witch gets away and leaves behind a letter saying precisely that. So the next book sounds a little predictable, but I'm still reading it anyway.

“Fight for Me” is the second installment in the “Captivated” Trilogy by S.J. Pierce, a young adult, paranormal romance series, which follows Kat Walsh, an Irish girl - offspring of a fallen angel and a prophet - who jumped at the opportunity to attend the Midland Pines High – a paranormal US school for gifted teens - and flee the constant abuse and torment in her home country, where she is considered a cursed witch due to her telekinesis gift.

After the events related in book one, Kat and Gabriel find themselves into a brand-new environment, after having left Midland Pines High behind and settle into the hybrids compound, to keep her friends save from the witch who has been tracking Kat to exact her revenge. But as usually happen in UF, when one danger is averted, a new one appears in the horizon 😉 Now Kat is haunted by the prophetic vision of another Gifted, while obsessing after Gabriel’s new ‘fame’ among the inhabitants of the compound. This is Kat’s coming-of-age journey, and as such, Kat behaviour oscillates between self-awareness and annoyance to swing back until she finds her own balance and self-assurance.

We have suspence, mystery, and emotions galore. Teens and young adults will like this story. This book has alot more going for it than the first book I will have to say and I hope the next one does too. Kat and her friends are starting a new life with other hybrids, but they will never be abel to leave this demenstion again. Will Lilliana get them and they don't want the other hybrids to suffer again either. Kat is fighting her insecurity and struggling. Her friends are having their own problems. Gabe is by her side but she is still worried it could all go wrong. Her friendship with Levi her ex is still good, but can it stay that way? What about her other friendships and can she make new ones? Follow along as they learn new ways and you might just get scared for them.

This is the perfect follow up to Captivate Me.
We can really see an evolution on the characters and though the setting is different and the pace is a bit slower, it leaves the perfect anticipation and build-up for book 3 which I can't wait to read.
I Love Gabe and I wish Kat was a bit less insecure about him, but other than that, this book really takes us on a wonderful ride that you want to follow all the way through.
Bring it on, Book 3! Can't wait to see what you have for us.

New surroundings
This was a great adventure involving super natural humans and witches. Book 2 in the series was incredibly interesting and exciting with some intense emotions. The characters were vibrant, gifted, strong and unique in their own way. Kathryn and Gabriel are given a second chance on life in their new home as they try to adjust to it. There's violence, happiness, and new discoveries. A compelling enjoyable read.

I left a five star rating even though I could not finish the book. I love the writer's style and the way she builds excitement in her stories, unfortunately this is just not a genre I can get into. I really enjoyed her first book in the series and if I could get into the fantasy I'm sure I would have enjoyed this one.

Kat is having visions and dreams, while hybrid angels, witches and more are causing trouble. The action is fast paced, perfect for the younger crowd. So much to keep track of. The storyline has plenty of drama, surprises, adventure, twists, miscommunication and much more. This book grabs you solidly and does not let go.

Captivating, fascinating struggle between good and evil
Now that they are in another dimension, Gabriel, Kate and their friends should be safe, right? Wrong.
The build-up of tension and nail-biting suspense is really masterful. You are kept on the edge of your chair from start to finish and even then, you won’t be able to wait for the next book to know what will happen.

When we catch up with Kat & Gabe this time - they are entering into a "hidden" compound of hybrids - for their safety and the safety of their friends. Iris's little sister, Lilliana, is on the hunt for both hybrid and human that were involved in her sister's death.

While I still love the character of Kat, I felt something was off about her in this story. Maybe it was because she didn't seem as confident or independent as in the first book. The action for her seemed to take place more in her mind and heart that outwardly.

I also, not to spoil anything, but spent almost the entire book waiting for the "shoe to drop". I ended up not liking Gabe as much in this one either, he seemed like he was holding a lot back from Kat and became a bit untrustworthy.

I know that we have to have drama and angst (and don't get me wrong- I ENJOY the angst). I guess while reading I could never shake off the "bad vibes" I got from this one. The ending did redeem the story a bit for me. I still enjoyed the world and most of the characters both old and new. That said I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

This book is a follow-up to Captivate me and makes for an equally enjoyable read.
Kat is now hiding together with others in a compound for immortals in another dimension from Liliana, Iris’s sister, who desires their lives and make Kat suffer in the cruelest way she could come up with. Feeling safe, they gather the courage to enjoy the life a bit more, but out of a sudden everything crumbles and weird things start to happen. Kat even discovers another gift – strange dreams. The whole world is shaken and turned upside down, which makes not only Kat acting unreasonably.
The center of this book is set onto the turmoil surrounding the relationships. On one side, the love bond between Kat and Gabe improved, but on the other side, Kat acted sometimes really silly towards him and hurt him with her prejudices, not stopping for a while and thinking a bit about the possibility the truth may be different. But she developed nicely comparing to book one, becoming a character one could actually remember.
There were some unexpected twists and the plot development accelerated over time, but I would welcome a bit more action from the side of the evil. Yes, her strategy is taking some time and the revenge comes slowly, but I was just expecting something would happen and it didn’t. Nevertheless, there was plenty to enjoy and I found this book better than the previous installment. It had lots of drama and tension included, focus turned on the emotional side and in-depth insight into the characters, which I actually liked.

We pick up the start of the second book with Detective Trueblood making a very adamant suggestion that really isn't a suggestion, what is it? Why does he make this 'suggestion'? When they get to their new home, where is it? Who all goes? Once they've settled into their respective cabins in their new home, how long are the human friends, families, and loved ones still with them? Why can they not stay? One night, Gabe disappears from the bed, Kat wakes up and realizes he's gone. When she sees him next, and she asks, where does he tell her he went? Why does Dawson come to her job, with a smile like the cheshire cat? What does he say that riles Kat up? Who is Cheyenne and what is her involvement with Gabe? What does Kat think it is after the last time Gabe has snuck away and she goes to find him? There are a lot of intriguing things going on here. Who is Della and what happens between her and Kat? Why is Kat ordered to stay away from her? Who is behind all the things going on? When Kat goes to look for Gabe that night, what happens? You're going to have to read to see what is going on. Just know this book ends on a massive cliff hanger, letting you know there is more to come!

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

As in book one, the start of the book is set in an idyllic setting. Kat, Gabe and their friends are settling in the safe colony for hybrids located in another dimension.

Everything is perfect in this handcrafted, self contained safe place - from the farms growing all produce, construction teams building all , carpenters a market, dress shops even an art gallery, like minded people; but something is off.

Has evil somehow found a way to follow them into this perfect world?

Again the story flows seamlessly from book 1 as well as through book two, ending this time on a bit of a cliffhanger.
