The story of the Luddites and a fascinating account of life in a Yorkshire valley during the dawn of the industrial revolution at a time of great upheaval and discontent.
An amazing read as Ben Bamforth is an ancestor of mine (my maiden name is Bamforth) so the luddites cause and history runs deep in my veins. I love the Yorkshire dialect which my grandfather spoke and is sadly dying and what a treat to read local history by someone who witnessed it. The fiction element is less appealing to me but I loved the atmosphere and historical weight of the author's narrative. Even though the dialect slowed my reading I loved the memories it evokes - a very important part of history especially of that region
