Rate this book

This was a simply gorgeous graphic novel about the life of Mei Lanfang, one of China's most famous 20th century opera stars (immortalised in the film farewell my concubine). The story told here is quite different to the film, and focuses on Mei's life as a boy and his rather pleasant training in opera, here the bad things happen to his friends and he escapes as his tutor/master is a gentle man. I shall definitely have to get the 2nd one. Definitely recommended to people interested in Chinese history that can read French.
