You're seeking the ultimate experience, but is the prospect that you'll be dead in the next twenty four hours a thrill too far? Fourteen T-types make landfall on Apocritas - a newly discovered, earth-like planet with extreme sporting challenges to test one's mettle. Only there's an unanticipated additional event - dodging the bullets fired from two of the party's self-appointed hunters. Climbing precipitous peaks, wing suiting from dizzying heights and white-water rafting down a torrent more hazardous than the Colorado are just three of the stages to be completed. As if that wasn't enough, the native prehistoric life is less than friendly. Enough of a challenge?
They thought they’d be earning accolades from fellow coffin-dodgers and a cash prize, but the greatest reward might just be their continued survival. From the author of The Psychonaut comes this fast-paced tale of inter-galactic horror.
Tom Adams is an imaginer drifting between lands of fantasy, horror and bizarro. When he strays back into the realm called reality he finds himself in Middleland; a geologically beautiful gamut of scenery in the north west of England. The forces that drive him shift their shapes with sharp needles of inspiration, but at present include the art of Zdzislaw Beksinski, the music and words of Ronnie James Dio and a frankenstein amalgam of word-scriptors such as Vonnegut, Tolkien, Clevenger, Leonard and Bradbury. This was a very interesting, fast paced and action packed book. Coffin Dodgers are basically risk takers. I love that the extreme sports-like competition takes place on a different planet than Earth. I also loved that the wildlife was very like the wildlife during our Cretaceous period. The dinosaurs and the extremely large centipede were a nice touch. The story kept my attention as they attempted to survive one crazy after another. Overall, a very enjoyable book and I would read more by this author.
What a delightful change of pace. This book is about a futuristic Iron Man type competition where rules get ditched and it's really a run for your life competition.
I didn't know what to expect when I chose this book, it was action packed and fast paced and I loved every word of it. Not my normal type of story but that made it all the more enjoyable.
Coffin Dodgers: A Sci-Fi Horror Book By: Tom G.H. Adams 5 out of 5 stars
The story Coffin Dodgers: A Sci-Fi Horror Book by Tom G.H. Adams is a thrilling science fiction book. Fourteen T-types make landfall on Apocritas, a newly discovered, earth-like planet with extreme sporting challenges. Once they make landfall, there is an unanticipated event- trying to stay alive from two of the party’s self-appointed hunters. Now the rest of the party are running for their very survival while climbing precipitous peaks, wing suiting from dizzying heights, and white-water rafting down a torrent. Then there is the native prehistoric animal life that are far from friendly. The prize on this trip may just be their lives.
What a story! This fast-paced story begins with the drop-off and takes off from there. There is not a minute to spare as the contestants in this contest are fighting to live. The native wildlife that is described is a rogues’ gallery of characters. Water creatures, walking reptiles, and even a creepy insect that are not there to welcome anyone. The contestants not only have all the physical difficulties to deal with, they are also being picked off one by one like ducks in a barrel. This is one book where I had to remember to breathe as you just didn’t know what was going to happen next. This story is an amazing example of a science-fiction/thriller/horror book. It is the first book I have read by the author and I can honestly say it will not be the last. I love his writing style and character development. I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
The author transports the reader to a planet with prehistoric animals and fauna. The premise is that a group of extreme event athletes. They must navigate the planet and the first place team will be rewarded accordingly. However, this is a horror novel so all the participants are not playing by the rules. The story is a real page turner and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I recommend this book because it delivers a well written storyline.
Coffin Dodgers - 3* is generous. Could have greatly benefited from proper editing. The spelling for Imaritta's name changes multiple times. Saw it Immarita, Imarrita, and even Imarritta.
Lots of both British (dictionary know have some of them either) and American slang. Not a big deal, except the terms are being used by all, I can't even begin to think how country twang and cockney together would sound. Trying to power through anyway.
!SPOILER ALERT! I knew the Greco's had help from a promoter, since the drone cameras were gone and the psycho twins also had low jack on the other contestants. I figured it was Zowie pretty much when Eden called in the S.O.S. I surmised that the guns, ammo, atomiser etc were probably placed at the probably already damaged way stations.

In this book the author creates a terrifying world for a high-end sports contest where contestants discover they not only face the best competition in the world, they also face a nightmare planet and crazy people who want to kill them just for kicks.
Tom's characters are, for the most part, well developed and unique. He nailed the psychotic twins perfectly and clearly has an eye for writing high-adrenaline action sequences.
