“He's running from the past...but will he make a stand for love?”
Notes and Roses was a great story, characters have beautiful chemistry. Megan and Cody learn to love, live and let go of their past hurts.
I did enjoy this story, it was written beautifully. I found this to be a heart-warming story with a side of creeper. I can’t go into the story more, as it will give away too much of what really happens.
Twist and turns, and really lovely page turner.
I am eagerly waiting for the next in the series. For a debut in MF Rozenn has done wonderfully, I love RJ Scott’s MM books. Without a doubt I am pleased to say I am a fan that she can do both, tho I never really had any doubts at all.
DNF 35% ~ I really wanted to read this cause I love RJs MM books. But sadly discover it has two of my less liked things : ** Insta-attraction ** Vaderretro musician character
Notes and Roses is CJ and Megan’s story and it is a story worth reading. This is a powerful story of love and overcoming the fear to put you heart in the hands of someone else. CJ is looking for peace and a new start what he doesn’t expect is to find Megan. Megan is definitely not looking for love when she meets CJ, yet the heart wants what it wants and that just happen to be the man that landed on her doorstep. Cj and Megan story will draw you end and reading it in one sitting like I did. Once I started I could not stop. I was drawn into their world and definitely held me captive. A story of love, romance and of course passion. When I first started this I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did but I enjoyed every word of this story. The writing was captivating the author literally draws you in the character’s world. This will not be my last book from this author if this is what she has to offer. I say let Notes and Roses draw you into CJ and Megan’s world and let it hold you captive. You will not be sorry .
This is a very sweet love story. It was almost innocent in a way. Both characters came across to me as much younger than they are, it seemed like a YA book instead of a contemporary romance. Both characters are very likable and suit each other well.
Cody is hiding out in the small town trying to discover who he really is now that he is moving on with his life. Megan is the small town girl who intrigues him and likes him for who he is without knowing anything of his past. There were a few comments and remarks in the book that make me wander at Megan's background that were never resolved so hopefully in future books they will be.
Megan's family is definitely and interesting cast of characters and I hope they all get their own books.
There is a mystery in the story (to me it was a bit obvious) that adds just enough spice to keep it from getting too boring. All in all it was a decent book.

OK.....So after two years of reading m/m i decided to read an m/f....why?....well because this ones written by Rj Scott and if you've read her m/m books you will understand why I took a chance on this.....I just could not put this down.....I absolutely loved this book....Cody was so lost after everything that happened to him and when he stumbled into Notes and Roses....Megan and Rachels shop you could just see that this was going to be a slow romantic coupling......Megan I truly loved......She was strong and certainly knew how to put her two brothers in place and her cousin.....Kyle and Garrett I liked instantly and am glad that Garrett will be getting his own book....an m/m one too....and Rachel I know is getting her own book too which i'm looking forward too...Will be good getting to know about Rachel and Cody's friend Danny.....A truly lovely romantic read and a must read book x
I enjoy RJ Scott’s writing but I didn’t realize she had any M/F romance until she mentioned this series in one of her recent newsletters.
Cody is former boy band member escaping fame and the terror it brought to his life in small town Vermont. Megan is a florist who can’t seem to find luck in love. Both in their mid-20’s they have an instant attraction that quickly grows into more.
As with most of Scott’s books, this is a pretty quick read and that means the relationship progresses pretty fast to the “I love you” stage. I think she did a good job of letting Megan and Cody get to know each other. I appreciate that the angst between them is pretty low and the conflict comes mostly from outside sources. A lot of it in the form of Megan’s slightly overprotective and yet mostly hilarious family contrasted with some serious/ominous “threats” that give this a bit of a romantic suspense element.
A lovely holiday read and I’m now invested in Megan’s brothers and cousins finding their HEAs. Currently there’s 3 books in the series (first two are MF, third is MM), but it looks like there’s at least a 4th book planned. Yay!
Notes & Roses by RJ Scott is book 1 in her Stanford Creek series. It is a very sweet small town romance that takes place in Stanford Creek, Vermont. Stanford Creek is one of those quaint little towns where everyone knows everyone else except during tourist season when all the visitors come to town.
It didn’t take long for me to become a fan of the main characters. Megan Campbell is an entrepreneur who owns Notes & Roses, a florist and stationery store with her cousin Rachel. Megan is an artist and uses her artistic skills to create beautiful floral arrangements. She is the younger sister of two, overprotective brothers and an over protective cousin Kyle. She just ended a brief romance when she found out he is a liar. He is a married man.
Cody Brennan is the new man in town. He just bought a house on the river. Megan doesn’t know him the first time they meet he looks like a vagrant and collapse on her shop's floor. Her brother, Justin, the town’s sheriff comes to her rescue and gets Cody to the hospital.
I like the love story that grows between these two characters. They are both concentrating on moving forward from hurt and neither expect a relationship to develop. There is a little intrigue throughout the story. Is Cody’s past catching up with him? Is Megan’s past going to be the couple’s downfall? It is an interesting arc that keeps the reading wondering how the story will all play out.
I love the ancillary characters. I can’t wait to read their books. Garrett seems to be the most mysterious at this point, but Justin is the hot sheriff. I’m sure his story is interesting. Rachel is a good friend and cousin to Megan. She is also a little mysterious, and her brother Kyle is completely loveable. Can’t wait to read more about this family.
My only criticism is the ending is as satisfying as I expected. I’m sure Megan and Cody’s story will play out more in the series so it isn’t too upsetting. What I don’t like is that self-published books often have teasers that make it appear there is more to the story, then BAM, it’s over. This formatting adds to the reader expecting more.
I recommend Notes & Roses to anyone who likes a good, fast-paced, romance. Ms. Scott does an excellent job painting the backdrop for her story. She also develops her characters in a way that make them capture the reader’s heart. You will get wrapped up in their story and want more when the book ends. Now I’m off to start on the next book in the series.
I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
This is a sweet, small town, hearts and roses romance. The first book in a series about Stanford, a picturesque small town in Vermont, this is the story of a runaway boy band member and the local florist. The setting is quaint, the characters are quirky and charming and the story is very sweet.
Cody had my attention the moment he arrived bearded and bloody in Megan’s shop. The traumatised recluse is fascinating and ultimately very loveable. I loved his secrets and his ultimate vulnerability. However, as a reader of a certain age, there were times I struggled to see a boy band singer as a serious leading man.
While Cody is a very complex character, there were times that Megan felt very lightly sketched. She is developed against her her large extended family but I never felt her develop into a unique character on her own.
A slightly creepy stalker story runs parallel to the central romance, adding tension and excitement to an otherwise quite ordinary romance. I enjoyed the suspense element of this story very much.
I love RJ Scott’s m/m books so I had to try her first m/f. I have to admit that I’m sadly a little underwhelmed but my usual reservations about m/f romance may be clouding my judgement. There are too many m/f cliches here. Megan is the nice girl contrast to the loose women groupies Cody is used to. She is protected by Alpha male family members; she panics about being single at 25. I had hoped that a favourite m/m author who usually writes stories about equals could avoid the irritating gender stereotypes so common in m/f romance but this is just too traditional and too sweet for me.
I’m leaving my star rating at 4 because this is a well crafted story and my reservations are all about personal preference. There are some interesting characters in Stamford and I’m still eager to see how this series progresses.
First book in the series and my first book by Scott. I really enjoyed the pacing in the story, and even though it was a quick romance, it didn't feel quick. It's felt completely believeable and I loved that about Scott's style of writing. There was a good bit of romance, a tad bit of steam, and an exciting amount of mystery! A very well-rounded novel! Can't wait for book two to release this summer!
We meet the owners of Notes & Roses early on since they are the main focus of the book, Megan more so that Rachel but both are main characters. The shop is a flower/stationary store, very quaint and perfect for small town living! Megan and Rachel are cousins and best friends. They even live together above the shop. Enter Kyle, Rachel's brother... And Justin and Garrett, Megan's brothers. All related and all close! I love big families! They are all planning a huge event together which I'm assuming takes place in book two...
Soon after the story begins, we meet CJ (Cody). He has his reasons for two names and they seemed kind of cliche, but I really liked how the situation went down in this book and how everything so organically fell into place right when it needed to. Scott did a great job giving plenty of detail to the story without over-telling us information, and let us wonder and try to figure things out for ourselves before they happened. I wasn't able to predict it all, but that's the fun part to me; seeing if what I think will happen, does.
Very enjoyable and pretty relatable. Loved it, and loved that me and the main girl, Megan, share a name! Great job with a male/female romance, Scott!
I adored Megan. She's curious, compassionate, sexy and spirited. Stanford Creek is nearly a mirror image of where I grew up and a spot-on rendition of small town life. The slightly overwhelming sense of community that drives Megan's interactions with her family and friends made me laugh out loud.
Cody is sweet, slightly awkward, a bit secretive and, despite the unusual circumstances surrounding their first meeting, is instantly smitten by Megan. That being said, I felt as if something was missing. Cody's history is told in a series of conversations and memories interspersed throughout the story that lacked continuity, making it harder for me to connect with his emotions. A prologue introducing CJ's character prior to meeting Megan would have been the perfect way to demonstrate the changes.
Notes and Roses is a delightful romance with the perfect balance of drama and suspense. I'm a long time fan of RJ Scott's writing and am equally enchanted with her first foray into mainstream storytelling.
Megan and Cody learn new things together as life seems to put them together and life is what you make of it. Megan was not so sure this stranger was what she needed in her life. Cody just wanted to stay out of the spotlight and write his music. He thought moving to a small town in Vermont would make things a bit easier. That was until he ran into all he could want in life but all he had no desire to have.
Life has a way of showing you that you are not the one in charge. As quite small town Vermont because a place that Cody can truly settle in. Someone else has plans to make sure that does not happen. There are twist and turns. Things that make you push to the next page just so you know what was coming around the corner.
Scott has done the job and done it well. Here was a cozy romance that gave a bit of suspense, mystery, and even a sweet romance. I have to say there were points that I found both Cody and Megan to feel young, but then they felt like true adults. I would classify this as more YA -NA Romance. **This ARC was provided via Bewitching Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.**
Cody Bennett is hiding; hiding in plain sight in Stanford Creek, Vermont. He was once CJ Taylor, member of the boy band Hudson Hart. After several devastating incidents in both his personal and professional life, he quit the band and left his whole life behind. He meets Megan Campbell, part owner of Notes & Roses, when he wanders into the store after injuring himself and proceeds to pass out and bleed all over her floor. Once he begins to get his feet back under him, he decides to create a new life in Stanford Creek and he wants Megan in it. But someone else wants Megan and Cody apart and will try to hurt them to do it. The life of a boy band member seems like it could be fun, until the fans go too far. This was a rather sweet story. There isn't much in the way of sex, but there is quite a bit of romance. While it is sweet, Megan and Cody seem like they are much younger than they are. It felt a little lacking in the Alpha male category, since for me personally "boy band member" doesn’t scream Alpha. It was an enjoyable read for me though!
What a gem of a read Notes and Roses by Rozenn Scott was. It was the perfect read for me on this chilly afternoon. Notes and Roses is a beautiful name and would make a great name for a love song! Author, Rozenn Scott, has written a beautiful and heart warming story, with a side of stalker. Megan and her cousin, Rachel, own Notes and Roses, a small florist with stationery, post cards, etc. Having three older brothers myself, I was constantly laughing over the protectiveness of Megan's two brothers and that of her cousin as well. I love her family! Cody Brennan aka C.J. Tyler was in a boy band that he eventually left due to a stalker and extenuating circumstances. He went into hiding in a small, sleepy town in Vermont. I don't want to give away what happens in the story, but they both meet when Cody stumbled into her shop dazed, confused and bleeding. And then they locked eyes .... You just have to read this story. It was beautifully written.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is the perfect sweet love story to curl up with on a rainy day. This is my first read by Rozenn Scott and it won't be the last it was well written with lovable characters and a little mystery in there too.
Megan, co-owner of Notes & Roses, is a sweet, caring woman with 2 very overprotective big brothers. When a stranger wanders into her shop bleed asking where the notes are Megan just needs to make sure he is ok.
Cody is a former member of a famous boyband. A stalker, and some horrific events lead to him quitting the band. He moves to a small town to get away from everything boy band related and finally just write music again.
When Cody slips on some ice and hits his head, he wanders in Notes & Roses where, confused and bleeding, he meets Megan. These two have explosive chemistry, even when Cody is bearded with long hair he can't hid his eyes which immediately catch Megan's attention.
Besides Notes and Roses being a beautiful name, Author Rozenn Scott has written a beautiful and heart warming story.
Megan is the owner, alongside her cousin Rachel, of Notes and Roses. Its a little Florist/stationary shop that sounds amazing. Megan has two overprotective brothers and a male cousin always keeping a close eye on her.
CJ Tyler, now Cody Brennan, use to be in a boy band. After a stalker incident and several other reasons, he quit the band and went running to hide.
When these two meet, their chemistry is explosive. Even the first time they met, when Cody was hurt and out of it, stumbling into her shop, bleeding and collapsed. You can tell something started from there and grew and grew.
This was an amazing story. I loved it to pieces and recommed it to you all.
****I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. ****
This was my first book from the author and I will certainly be reading their other books.
This was quite a sweet, insta-love romance. It's a really nice easy read that keeps you turning the pages from start to finish. There is a small mystery in the story and some small drama but this adds to the appeal of keeping you hooked.
It's defiantly more of a romance then sex which I liked and made a nice change.
Really enjoyed the other characters in the story too, Megan's cousins Rachel and Kyle, her brothers Justin and Garrett, and even Danny when he came in at the end. They all complimented each other well and I'm looking forward to reading more from them in the series.
⭐️I was extremely lucky to receive an ARC copy of this book from the Author and Signal Boost Promotions ⭐️
This was a beautifully written love story. Megan and Cody's first meeting may not have gone the best, he covered in blood collapsing on the floor of her floral shop and she terrified , because , let's face it , he does look kinda rough. But soon their attraction grows and...well I will not give away what happens. Just going to say this was a great story and I read it in one sitting. There is a bit of danger lurking. Some persistent people and well meaning and loving family and friends. So do yourself a huge favor and buy this book, you will not be disappointed!
Oh this one is a page turner. You won't want to put it down and you sure as heck are going to want a long, tall glass of iced...well, anything. *grin* This is a beautiful story and the start to a great series.
This was the first M/F story I’ve read by RJ Scot (it was previously published under her Rozenn Scott pen name which she has decided to retire). Like her M/M stories that I am very familiar with, this one contains her wonderful way with words that make me feel like I’m part of the story.
Former pop star, CJ (Cody) Taylor is starting over and leaving life in the spotlight. He retreats to a small town in Vermont and makes his debut in town in a way he never imagined and in the process, meets Megan Campbell.
This is a somewhat typical boy meets girl story but Ms. Scott’s writing that makes all the difference. There’s mystery and suspense along with some family drama. Cody and Megan get a HFN (happy for now) and the book introduces additional characters who feature in the other books in the series.
Notes and Roses - ( Book 1) Stanford Creek Series M/F
Rj Scott has certainly hit the right note and tone with her first book in the Stanford Creek Series.
This is a HEA story between Cody and Megan. I thought it was well written with grit and drama in between.
I enjoyed this book for the above reasons but Rj also incorporated the other characters from future books in the Stanford Creek Series rather cleverly I thought as this book, could then be read as a Standalone although much better when in the Series.
I would have no hesitation recommending this to another reader. For me it was a 5* read. I enjoy the storyline and the main characters and others immensely!
It has been some time since I last read an M/F romance. Not so much because I’ve suddenly fallen out of love with the genre, but more because I was trying to catch up with the new to me M/M genre. Notes and Roses was a wonderful book to take me back to my (reading) roots.
The story hooked from the start when a bleeding, bearded man stumbles in the shop run by Megan Campbell and her cousin Rachel, and collapses. Despite his dishevelled appearance and the potential thread he might be, Megan can’t deny she’s interested in the stranger. When he returns to the shop, all cleaned up, to apologize that interest turns into attraction.
Cody’s reaction to Megan is pretty much the same; he can’t get her out of his head. But he’s nowhere near ready to share all his ghosts and demons with somebody else, no matter how he might feel about her.
Despite Megan’s very protective brothers and extended family having their doubts about Cody and Cody himself being afraid that getting close to Megan will mean his secrets will be revealed, the two of them can’t fight the attraction between them and very quickly grow very close. And, as Cody’s past infringes on his present, danger lurks, from all sides.
In the past I’ve often been frustrated with M/F romances because, with a few exceptions, they seemed to present me with either helpless, fragile leading ladies or their exact opposite, women so independent they end up acting stupidly just to prove they don’t need anyone. Megan in this book, thankfully, fell into neither of those categories. She was the kind of leading lady I do like to read about; independent, with a mind of her own and yet smart enough to know that she can’t always do everything herself. She may resent the way her brothers are over protective when it comes to her, she is not ashamed to ask for their help when she needs it. It made her both relatable and recognisable and I found myself rooting for her right from the start.
The same balance was present when it came to Cody. He hasn’t begun to come to terms with everything that has happened to him in the past, and at times appears to be afraid of his own shadow. But when push comes to shove he is brave enough to be honest and selfless enough to think of Megan first.
I enjoyed this book. It had the right combination of romance and suspense—even if I did think Megan was a bit too naïve when it came to the man who had been bothering her. The attraction between Megan and Cody was palatable from the start and the intimate scenes between them were sexy without being overly descriptive. Finally I have to say that the title of this book was a stroke of genius on the author's part. If it's the job of a title to cover the contents of the book, Notes & Roses worked on every level.
Long story short: this was a delightful and gripping read and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
“Notes & Roses” by Rozenn (RJ) Scott is the first book in the ‘Stanford Creek’ series and follows CJ (Cody) Taylor, who has retreated from the limelight after a horrific experience with a stalker. His unconventional meeting with Megan Campbell makes him determined to overcome her first impression and cautiously attempt to resume a normal life. Unfortunately, history seems determined to repeat itself, and the danger that escalates may take a fatal turn.
This contemporary romantic suspense story is an entertaining introduction to a delightful small town family and the members of a music group that they form a relationship with. I was a little disconcerted to discover that this was the first in the series, as I actually read the second book first, and when I read this one, I kept thinking there must be another one before it, given what Cody had been through. I love discovering how close-knit Megan is with her cousins, and seeing how the extended family is woven into the fabric of the town. The protective nature of the males and their begrudging and hard-won acceptance was delicious to read about, and getting glimpses of Cody’s artistic side and the drama in his history added to the suspense in the story. The tension increases nicely and I was compelled to continue reading although I think some things didn’t quite gel as I think a certain person’s behavior would have been gossiped about in such a small milieu. Nonetheless, I think this is a great start to the series and set up the connection to the next story very nicely.
A copy of this title was provided to me for review, a version of which has been offered to Night Owl Reviews
Notes and Roses is the first book in the Stanford Creek series, and tells the story of Megan - younger sister and cousin of some very protective males - and Cody - known in the past as CJ who has his own demons. This is a very romantic book, with a couple of steamy scenes to help it along the way, not that it really needs them! Everyone has a past, but when that past continues into the present, then it can become troublesome.
I loved how the attraction was instantaneous between Cody and Megan, and that they allowed themselves time to know each other before moving forwards. I understood Cody's reasons for keeping quiet when he did, and am glad that he took the honest route when Megan spoke with him.
With a smooth pace, this story simply flows. It is full of emotions, mystery and a hint of danger. I love books by R.J. Scott, and now it looks like I'm going the same way with books by Rozenn Scott too. Definitely recommended by me.
* I received this book from Signal Boost Promotions in return for a fair and honest review. *
I was so surprised when I realized that I’d already gotten to the end of this book. The story held me captive and I just kept turning pages as quickly as I could!
For all of the secrets and problems that these two have, the story is pretty simple. They meet, have a connection and start dating. There isn’t a lot of emotional drama or setbacks for them. Megan handles it well when she finds out Cody’s secrets. He’s had a rough couple of years and is understandably wary (and weary), but he’s not a bad man and Megan knows that.
I love the simplicity of it … and then Scott throws us a few curves to keep things hopping. It’s not horribly drawn out, and I like that as well. It’s wrapped up smoothly and I am super excited to see what else is coming in this series. Between Cody’s bandmates and Megan’s family there are bound to be some great stories coming … hopefully soon :)

Want a cozy, sweet, hot, sexy romance with a little bit of stalker crazy thrown in then this is your book :) I loved it... Megan can't get his eyes out of her head the beautiful piercing blue of the man that wandered in and then collapsed in her floral shop. Cody has no idea who she is but he can't forget the face of the woman he saw before blacking out and waking up at the hospital. Cody has secrets he is desperate to tell Megan but fear is holding him back dark memories of one horrendous night. Two very different people but they can't seem to get enough of each other, sometimes the key to starting over is finding someone to share life with, that makes you feel safe and loved. I fell in love with Megan and Cody and can't wait to read her cousin Rachel's story!
A very well written beautiful love story. Megan and her cousin own a flower shop and enjoy their life in a small town. Cody is from the big city trying to escape a crazy past and start over. Cody finds himself on the floor of a florist shop bleeding and close to passing out. At the hospital as he recovers he is haunted by the image of Megan and when she comes to visit he is so attracted to her and wants to get to know her better. Megan is mesmerized by his stunning blue eyes and and after he cleans himself up a bit she finds he is very attractive and not as scary as she had first thought. The blossoming romance between these two is such a page turner that I had the book read in no time and was left wanting more. This was a great beginning to a new series.
Loved this story! It's a sweet and heartwarming romance, full of small-town charm and warmth. Both Cody and Megan have an endearing innocent quality about them, which might explain why neither sees David for what he truly is. All the secondary characters ooze support and caring -which may be unrealistic, and a little overdone, but it reinforces the tone of the book. No one writes tender love stories like RJ Scott, so if you want a feel-good read with HEA plus the promise of more in the series, grab this one!
I received this book as an ARC for a honest review. This book was read and reviewed by Stacy Aube for Cutting Muse Blog Review.
A mesmerizing read. Megan has 2 overly protective brother's, that makes dating almost impossible. Then enters Cody Brennan former boy band star. There was something that drew them together, could this be it or will the brothers keep them apart.
This was a great story. Can't wait for Danby and Rachel's story!
Great book!! Just a great book. Sometimes that's all to say this is one of those books. When someone is trying to heal from all kind of problems, and some just crazy ex's. Some people are suppose to be together and fates put them together in a romantic tale with hits of problems to make it interesting. Great start to a series can't wait for the next one.
