Despite its semi-official status, it seems the Service Club is getting busier and busier. It's a little incomprehensible. How does a club with three permanent members and one or two provisional members get saddled with all the mechanics of running around, saving school events, helping out other clubs and holding its own cooking competition?

Nobody knows. Or, maybe they do and there's nothing they can do about it? MY YOUTH ROMANTIC COMEDY. . .#7.5 is a mediocre entry in an otherwise stellar series of light novels about the glory of cynicism and the disdain of the advent of adulthood. This novel is a collection of short stories and novelizations, which, for the most part, are entirely unrelated. However much one enjoys Hikigaya's routine clashes with classmates over study habits, feuds with teachers over dwindling relational social contracts or rising to the challenge of smiting the expectations of a rogue recent graduate — this particular installment of the novel series is more of a whimsical summer read than a true next chapter in Watari's expanding narrative canon.

The most cohesive short story arrives halfway through the book when the group receives a request to help out the judo club, which is under harassment from a former student. One gets the feeling this chapter could have been fodder for an entire novel, if plotted more precisely, but the story's position as filler becomes clear when the author cinches and snips the reader's connection to the characters into shorter and shorter bites.

This particular side story isn't hard to follow, as a consequence, but it is difficult to graft one's emotions to the state of play. MY YOUTH ROMANTIC COMEDY. . .#7.5 is difficult to read with any lasting interest because the narrative components move so fast — judo club has a problem, service club devises an overly complex solution, plan goes into action, Hikigaya saves the day. Hikigaya does his thing and forces others to meet reality head-on. But the gut punch isn't there.

The other stories come and go and leave little impact. For example, Komachi organizes a weird little bride contest involving Yukinoshita, Yuigahama and Miss Hiratsuka, but that's it. Readers with a curious eye might discern the ways in which Hiratsuka genuinely cares what Hikigaya thinks of her, but one wonders if this is merely a play on circumstances rather than an actual moment of legitimate character exposition. Still, it's nice.

As a toast to the in-between moments of the novel series' more significant events, this volume doesn't yield much. A more forceful pinprick would have been an observation in the lives and emotions of the series' side characters. Totsuka is adorable but constantly strives to be more masculine, so why not get inside his head for a day of genuine self-reflection? Ebina is deliberately two-faced when she's in public but how does she see the world when she's just being herself? Hiratsuka, contrary to popular assumption, actually does have a social circle, so why not show readers a taste of the adult version of this hysterical woman?

The book contains many short stories of events occuring during the time period after the cultural festival. From aiding Hiratsuka with an intro to marriage school event, an arcade outing for the group, to the school's field trip, these stories were a fun read, and aided in building Hikigaya and his bond with the Service club members. .

This is probably the weakest side-volume, but it still had some interesting moments in it. I was really happy to see the last story since it was mentioned a lot in the main series and it was annoying that I did not know what it was about. Anyway its not essential, but I would still recommend to read this volume as well, its a worthy addition to the series even if its not the best one.

It was quite good, it started with a quiet, relaxing first half. with a interesting, fun second half.
It was pretty good.
