Filled with the prejudices that exist in the early 1800’s, outlaws burn down the Williams' farm as they attempt to burn alive the Williams sisters and the men working at their farm. The sisters, their two farm hands, and other friends from the nearby town of Harmony, Arkansas seek justice. Justice they hope to find a hundred miles away in Little Rock. Together with the last three living members of the gang of outlaws, they trek across the open countryside and cross swollen rivers on the newly built military road. Choices of allegiance to family and friends, choices of faith, and choices of obedience to the law, fall upon the good, the bad and the evil. Their choices could bring the end of their friendships, their loves, their families or their lives, and will certainly seal their eternal futures. With perseverance, friendship, love and shreds of faith, the travelers fight to make their own choices and choose their consequences.
The Williams sisters and Noah face a challenging decision. Depend on the kindness and charity of others to survive the oncoming winter or travel hundreds of miles to Little Rock and ensure that the men who destroyed their farm and livelihood encounter justice. Really not too hard of a decision to make....
The journey will be enough of a challenge itself. There will be sorrow, heartache, and never-ending difficulties from the perceptions of others. But there will also be goodness, faithfulness, and hope.
A beautiful sequel to Ms. Gay's 'Pray for Justice'! With such vivid and true characters, this story continues to enchant and enrich the reader in these lives and experiences of the past. Very well done!
Three sisters make their way in 1839. They live and work together, trying to keep up with at least a part of the farm that their parents have left them. As they struggle to make ends meet, their hope is undaunting and their perseverance admirable.
Upon a visit to the town, they are witnesses to a senseless argument where men take issue with a Native American man, who just came in to the saloon for a meal. The resulting chaos and violence brings attention to the sisters....and their failing home. Even as their kindness extends outward to a stranger, they must prepare for the possible retribution from the gang of men.
An absolutely enthralling story that expounds upon the strength of the human spirit, the constancy of faith, and the indomitable will of evil. This was a joy to read and I highly recommend this book. Well done!
