Overall this was a good book. It was easy to read and I thought is was well organized. I went through and tagged/marked information that was relevant to me and that I thought was useful.

Some things I found helpful:

1. Knowing how to end your statements/answers to questions, page 62.

2. How to answer "What is your greatest weakness?" Page 73.

3. "What are your salary expectations?" Page 80
This was particularly interesting as I have seen many of job postings in the wildlife field that simply say "competitive salary" or "DOE". I thought Thea had some good ideas on how to answer by not really answering and/or by referencing information that can be found online on Glassdoor or similar sites.

4. Another good one was how to answer if you are asked if you have been having other interviews. Page 81.

5. And there was a list of questions to ask your interviewer(s) starting on page 102. Some questions were relevant and helpful to me.

I did not really care for the time spent on story telling. I am rarely asked to tell stories in my interviews and if I do they tend to be behavioral questions or I'm asked about how I handled difficult field situations. This might just be due to my career field (wildlife biology) or the job level that I am currently at (recent graduate).

Some things were geared toward people working corporate jobs (CEO type stuff, perhaps), which again was not relevant for me, but might be helpful for others.

I recommend having a pencil and paper (or the electronic equivalent) ready before you start reading this book, as you will want to make notes to tailor the suggestions to your own experience, skills and field. This book was better than I expected; the author made many insightful recommendations. For example, a lot of people will have similar strengths (integrity, reliability, communications skills, etc) so you really need to focus on presenting what you have to offer that is unique. The author emphasizes REV points. REV = relevant, exceptional, and verifiable. She also emphasizes the importance of telling stories which give good examples of times you have used your skills successfully in the past. She suggests having at least 20 stories ready in case you progress through multiple interview levels or find you have already used a story when another question arises that requires a similar/overlapping example. I found the first half of the book which emphasizes Q & A more useful than the second half which emphasizes nonverbal aspects of interviewing. This is because the first half seemed to offer insight beyond the standard recommendations, whereas the second half was a bit more generic. Overall, worth a read for anyone who might be interviewing in the near future.

Loved this book! It's a quick read, and its jam-packed with essential information for getting your next job - from preparing for the interview process, to interviewing successfully, to following up with style so that you stand out from all the other candidates. I recommend this book even if your looking for your next job at your current company. Having my "core message" down pat and my REV-points on-hand with simple stores is going to help me vividly demonstrate why I'm the right person for the job.

If you're not comfortable interviewing or don't know where to start to prepare for an interview, this book contains all the information you'll need. For those who have been through a few interviews, some of the advice might seem obvious:
- Know your "selling points" - what makes you an exceptional candidate (not just qualified).
- Have an answer to the common first statement "Tell me about yourself" - give a great first impression and provide a summary of your qualifications that are relevant for the job.
- Have several stories/examples to illustrate you meet each job requirement.
- Don't give canned or dumb answers like "chocolate is my weakness." Give an answer that shows you're self-aware of your limitations and strive to improve.

Well, proof is in the pudding. If I get the job I interview for on Tuesday, this book was fantastic! If not, we’ll...

But in all seriousness, this book was just the right length for preparing for the interview. I thought the exercises seem appropriate and I do not see how I am better prepared now. There are a lot of tips online, but I found this book more useful. It works through a process rather than random tips and questions. For example, the formulaic method of story preparation was extremely useful. Also, thinking through the all important “tell me about yourself” was good.

A helpful quick-read for people struggling to get a job position, mostly because of failed interviews.

I enjoyed how the author emphasises the importance of practicing before hand, with a slight, but very cruical note to take care of ones attitude towards oneselves lifestyle for the sake of a healthier and a better perspective on ones confidence and motivation to achieve needed goals.

Loads of examples and tips.

One star off for a very robot-like approach to some issues, but that's a personal preference of mine that I don't agree with.

I always thought of myself as a good interviewer but this book opened my eyes to so many ways i can improve and become great.

So many nuggets that are helpful. Especially loved the chapter on creating your rev points and SOAR stories which I have done and encourage everyone to do.

Listened to it in audio form from my local library and now going to get a hard copy to reference back to when i need to. Yet to schedule an interview but I feel more confident about this year with this book in my toolbox.

Content Warnings: None

I knew I was "not great" (the kind phrasing of my current manager) at interviewing. I listened on audio through a virtual voice version included with my audible membership and found myself frequently pausing to write down notes and responses to the various exercises. These exercises substantially improved my ability to identify the relevant, verifiable examples which could be produced as evidence of a few specific traits I wanted to demonstrate.

This book is a resource you can continue to leverage throughout your career.

Thought provoking and innovative. Tackles the hard questions and how to be prepared for the interview. Emphasizes the importance of several aspects of the process not just the basics. Definitely recommend this to anyone preparing themselves for interviewing or even for leadership to use during an interview process.

A brilliantly written book!
It gives insights and inspiration on how a book on a specific subject must be written.
Great in-depth knowledge combined with an ease of writing (easy to read) and more importantly, the logical flow, makes it a valuable reference book.

Clear and easy to read help on getting a job. Very easy to read and helpful. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest opinion. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.

This book was very clear and concise and being a short book was just long enough to give you time to read a few days before an interview.
Very clearly written with practical tips.
The language was readable and it was not filled with jargon that you would struggle to understand.

The book's approach and advice were more helpful than I anticipated. This has methods to write out what you have to offer to a company and sell yourself to land the job. I find it highly useful especially since I was selling myself all wrong. This book was insightful and I highly recommend to fine-tune your skills or learn new how to find skills you have to offer to the next company.
