ספר זה מכונסות אמרותיו של מורה הזן הסיני שנודע ביפן בשם ג'ושו. הוא היה חכם וחד לשון, שנון ומצחיק יותר מכל מורה אחר בהיסטוריה של הזן.
ג'ושו נולד בשנת 778 בצפון סין וחי מאה ועשרים שנה.

הספר מלווה במבוא ובהערות מאת יואל הופמן.

הטקסט תורגם מסינית לאנגלית בידי יואל הופמן והופיע בספר Radical Zen בשנת 1978.
הנוסח העברי תורגם מאנגלית לעברית בידי דרור בורשטיין, ונערך בידי יואל הופמן בשנת 2006.
תשעה עשר מארבע מאות חמישים ושמונה פרקי הספר פורסמו, בנוסח שונה בספרו של יואל הופמן "לאן נעלמו הקולות" (מסדה, 1980).

Good translation. As with most koan collections, it gets frustrating after awhile, so I can really read it only in small portions. Still, worth reading.

It took me at least 3 years but i did it! As this was a Bed stand book & i don't read at bed almost so it took forever but the short stories are simple and meaningful, "talk about the reality and don't BS" should be the moto. Towards the end the stories became repetitive but maybe it's the idea? Anyways it's a great Zen book
