A new paranormal urban fantasy romance thriller from the bestselling authors of The Divinicus Nex Chronicles! It's action, adventure, suspense, and crazy fun characters!
-
No Memory. No Mind. No Mercy.

Kiara Blackwood has a few problems.

She's older than she looks - by several centuries. She can't remember who she is. She doesn't know why she's the target of Oleander, an immortal serial killer, or why she's held prisoner by the undead, or where to find the Midnight Poison, the one thing that could grant her freedom. And best of all, her psych meds have stopped working, because, oh yeah, she's borderline insane. Well, maybe not so borderline.

When Oleander's killing spree threatens to rip the supernatural world apart, Kiara has no choice but to hunt him down. Forced to rely on a dashing vampire with questionable motives, she plunges into a world of lies, betrayal, deadly deceptions, and secrets that could tear what's left of her mind to shreds. And because that's such a piece of cake, while she's at it, she might as well search for the Midnight Poison, that legendary potion she can't remember creating, let alone hiding. Well...

Crazy or not, here she comes.

A&E Kirk, bestselling authors of the #1 Divinicus Nex Chronicles, have created a new series with all the usual action, adventure, and laugh-out-loud humor fans love, plus they've added a bit of dark, twisted, and dangerous.

Be brave. Try some Midnight Poison. Lethal to the last drop.

To all our amazing fans, we just wanted to mention that Midnight Poison has a bit more language and sexuality than the Divinicus Nex Chronicles, but other than that, you can expect the same type of exciting roller-coaster ride of action, suspense, and fun!

She flashed a weak grin. “You worry too much.”
He sighed. “Because you worry not enough.”

Wow. This book was literally crazy! It was also dark, sexy, shocking, twisted. Over all very very weird and full of fun. Though messy and really confusing at times.
All in all, I was glued to the pages from start to finish. And while this book is utterly different from Divinicus Nex Chronicels - which remain my favourite - I'd recommned for fans of A.E. Kirk to read this one as well. It's wild and crazy and fun! Looking forward to the sequel.

Her gaze was tentative. “Do you want me to remember everything?”
He smiled.
“Of course I do,” he lied.

Really, the notification that MP would be different from Demons at Deadnight was utterly unnecessary. Of course, it´d be different, because otherwise it´d be the same, right? And we wouldn´t want it to be the same, because DNC is uniquely, insanely, differently wonderful and MP deserves a chance to be as wonderful on its own. In its own way.

But then, we shouldn´t completely avoid any comparison with DNC, because then we´d ignore one of the most important parts: the humor. And thankfully, as expected, as hoped for, the humor is the same.
Those, who´ve already read DNC know what I´m talking about. For those, who haven´t the slightest clue what I´m babbling about, let me give you a teaser:
- Gilmore Girls speed level of talking.
- 50 Shades of Crazy. And every single one as adorable as mysterious.
- Roller Coaster Twister story with ever changing suspects and only one semi-stable constant.
- Fast and Furious dynamics. Prepare to love all of the characters and love them with the madness only a reader´s heart can possess.
- Steamy Shower Scenes.
- STEAMY SHOWER SCENES.
- Blue eyes and dark hair. Another one to join the club of potential book boyfriends.

MP - Museum of Paranormal - features all the supernatural beings in one world. Which could´ve gone terribly wrong, but drove off in the different direction instead. The Shifters are hot, the Vampires are as well, the Fairies are fairly creepy and the Witches walk the line okay and crazy bitches. But they have a Spa, which kind of makes them the winners of this nonexistent competition.
All of them come together in this hilarious story of one girl to be their downfall or their savior. If only she could remember. Kiara is all kinds of weird, cute, funny and badass and managed to be likable in whatever form she appears. Lacking important parts of her memory as well as some marbles she´s supposed to find the Midnight Poison again, which she once produced all by herself. She´s got help, though, in her wild goose chase in the form of an overly protective, overly handsome vampire and an equally appealing shifter, who believes in her abilities and trusts without questions. I´m with Blake on that one: Yeah, baby!
Don´t know how the Kirk girls managed to create a good love triangle, but they did and I enjoyed it immensely. Instead of turning annoying it always stayed intriguing (what´s Leontes´ problem? I need to know!) and hilarious.

I absolutely adored this book. It´s funny, it´s smart, it´s hot and it´s everything in between and far from boring. High pace crashes with ridiculous situations and out comes wonderful entertainment to lighten up every mood and every bad day.
It left me somewhat sad, though. So long, until the 2nd book will grace my bookshelf.

Aaahhhh! Finally I got (created) some time for binge reading the book nonstop as we all know A.E. Kirk's books are all about action and I enjoy reading them more when I am reading them without break!

This book is not really a surprise because those who have read this duo's books already know their level of excellence. This book is a complete package... it has a menagerie of paranormal characters what with vampires, witches, shape shifters, sorcerers and of course summer and winter court of fairy. All these creatures want to get their hands on the Midnight Poison which would eliminate the negative aspects of their existance and thus grant them lives without any weaknesses.

Kiara Blackwood is many centuries old ruthless assassin who along with the great Leonardo da Vinci created the Midnight Poison which she herself has ingested and shortly after she lost her memory and was sealed in a coffin -alive- for eternity. There is no other person in the world knows the recipe/ ingredients or method of making the Midnight Poison and thus every party of creatures want to get hold of her. Leontes is a very gorgeous, handsome Vampire and possessive of Kiara and also her guardian. Their chemistry iss amazing and they go way back in their lives where Leontas is caring, aloof but sweet and very indulging of Kiara. He says harsh words and regrets them. We also have Jaeger, Werewolf Prince who has hots for Kiara and who just loves to irritate Leontas...

This book is a joy filled ride of crazy, cool, funny, action-packed, hot and fantastical moments. Did I mention CRAZY???! Kiara is crazy... Jaeger is crazy with Kiara... Leontas is crazy (I guess once but it is enough!).

LOVED loved loved this book!

UPDATE

I would read anything by these authors! Desperately waiting for this book...

This book was very different from DNC (one of my favorite series) and totally NOT what I expected. In my personal opinion, it wasn't bad but it wasn't that good either. I was so hyped for it but it was very different from what I thought it would be and it just didn't reached my expectations.

I liked the concept of the plot, getting Kiara´s memories back for the purpose to find Midnight Poison. There were many interesting and surprising revelations throughout the story however some things left me confused, especially the ending. My main issue with this book were the characters, better said the main character Kiara. She annoyed me with her childish talk and behavior. During some most of the (dangerous) situations I just couldn't take her seriously and I asked myself if I am sure I am not reading about a twelve year old girl.

Kiara sat up and clapped her hands "Yippee!"

She dropped like a stone between the narrow space in the center of the stairwell, yelling "Wheee!"

There were far more situations like these...I can understand that some people may find those things funny, but they just got me constantly rolling my eyes.

Overall, this book was ok, it didn't make any big impression on me like I was hoping it would but it was still enjoyable to read.

Alright, I'm conceding defeat at 55% and putting this book on hold for now.
I've already spent too much time being annoyed by the main character and confused by the storyline that I just can't seem to warm up to. Not giving up on it entirely yet, though - it's A & E Kirk, after all. Maybe I'll come back to this sometime in the future.

Ugh what can I say? oh I know. I TOTALLY ADORE THIS FREAKNG BOOK!!!
yeah you heard that right. I just finished this one and I swear I will read absolutely anything A&E Kirk writes, it's just so good.
this book is totally different than DAD in ways that it isn't as funny or quirky, but man this was one of a spectacular read! a lot of amazing new otherworldly creatures like unicorns (wich are totally badass) and shifters alike! I just loved this book, and as an absolute bonus the cover is really pretty.
the only downside is WHERE IN THE WORLD WILL BE TGE SECOND BOOK!!! I need that in my life like RIGHT NOW.

Freaking A man. Of course it's so amazing I can't even stand it. I was really nervous before starting this book, because I love the DNC series so freaking much, and I was afraid I would be comparing them, and Midnight Poison just wouldn't live up to it. Thankfully, I had no reason to worry. This book is completely different, the POVs are so distinct, and I love this book just as much, if not more.

So, Kiara is amazing. She's impulsive and reckless, but she's also literally insane, so it works. Mental health is a serious issue, but this book does an amazing job of incorporating it without making it a joke or diminishing the devastating effects it can have. Rather, the hallucinations and Kiara's inability to always perceive them as such is an awesome element to the overall story.

Kiara's powers and her background just keep getting more and more interesting too.

I'm also in love with Leontes. I was intrigued from the very beginning, but the more I learn about him, the more I fall in love with him. I mean, he's definitely not perfect, and he's made mistakes throughout this book, and I have no doubt he's made many more in the past, but I still feel like he's a genuinely good man. He loves Kiara, even if he won't admit it or doesn't know in what type of way, but he cares about her and he's protecting her.

Jaeger is also an adorable little pup. He's funny and flirty, but also smart and brave. He's fighting for and protecting Kiara with everything he has, and I love that about him. They've just met, so he's obviously not in love with her (yet?), but he cares about her so much already, and I definitely can't blame him.

But, oh man, the developing love triangle. I'm really conflicted about this, only because I generally hate love triangles. I think they're annoying, and they always make the girl seem fickle and selfish. But, despite my bias, I feel like this one might be done well. Heck, maybe there won't even really be triangle per se, maybe she'll choose one early (even if she ends up changing her mind).

And I obviously have to mention that ending. Holy shit. This book did an awesome job of keeping me on my toes. It's definitely not predictable, and the ending was no exception.

So basically, this book is dark and intense, but charming, and there is added humor that makes it so much better. It has romance (and it's freaking hot), as well as violence. It basically has a blend of everything, and I love it. Now, how long do I have to wait for the next book?

Wow!! I know A&E Kirk said it would be different but I just wasn't expecting it! Needless to say I still loved it! It was very different from anything else I've read in a long time. I was pretty lost and felt like the blind old bitty trying to cross a five lane road in the beginning though. Whew - that first 15% or so, it took a bit to catch on. But that was the beauty in the book - I was constantly on my toes! And Kiara! Such a badass!

And now it gets kind of spoilery (totally an actual word - no need to check Webster)

So it starts off at a massacre. I’m completely serious. It’s gory and bloody, and the way A&E write you can see it all. There are dead bodies everywhere. I’m pretty sure later we discover it was close to 100 people killed. They weren’t kidding when they warned it was violent. We have Leontes – which is our leading man – investigating the murders. The scene basically leaves us thinking that the infamous serial killer Oleander is back at it again, killing left and right.
It jumps to our leading lady. A more unreliable narrator I haven’t read in years. She’s hiding from an intruder and at first we think she has a trusty sidekick/bodyguard but then we discover that Cowboy is actually a hallucination. Girl is crazy. Further evidence to this fact is that she follows said intruder.

Complete and total spoilers!!

What I need to know is what happened between Leontes and Kiara all those years ago?? What are his feelings for her? Does she actually have feelings for him? How in the beejezus did Kiara lose her memories?
So many questions!!

This was definitely different from what I'm used to reading from the authors. Where there was dialogue and light-heartedness in their DNC series, this new saga or Paranormal Poisons takes on a much darker tone. Lead by Kiara Blackwood and her guardian, Leontes, we're taken into a world where murder seems to be the number one thing at the moment. People are being slaughtered, an infamous serial killer is back, and Kiara's in trouble. Again. The book opened up to one of the many slaughters going on right now. With Leontes investigating it with the other vampires, it doesn't take long before we're with Kiara, our protagonist and current target of the killer, Oleander. She hides from the trespasser in her room and later follows him. And there our story begins.

So I'm not a big fan of a lot of action scenes because I use the dialogue to build up the stories and world for me. While I'd find myself thinking 'Oh, another scene', the description itself was intense and entertaining enough to not put it down. Then again, I'm a total visual reader and don't like the sight of blood, so you can imagine the experience I had with this lol. The characters were interesting, and if I had to choose a favorite, it'd be Bane, only because he seems the most complex, if not just totally hot. A few of the characters gave me different impressions that changed my mood about as quickly as the full moon, but I'm taking that as a personal opinion.

I love how dark the humor is in this. I wasn't sure if they'd be able to bring the funnies that I fell hard for in DNC but if anything, they made it better since that's where I swing more towards. I died, especially when it came to some of the scenes that you wouldn't even think had humor in it. It's one of my favorite things about this book, if not the plot twists or Leontes. The story line was pretty fun because I like when the settings are changing and not just stuck in one place. It lagged a little for me when it came to what felt like a detour for me, and again, I wanted to strangle a certain character for doing what they did, but in the end, it worked out.

The ending totally killed me and I really need the next book. It's like the Waiting World but 24/7 with the minute breaks of some bumps and grinds. Kidding. Seriously though, the book is definitely hotter, with the feel good vibes that match the intensity of the gritty. So in short words: intense, darkly hilarious and surprising. Any book that makes me laugh out loud and cry for a character who's reached their bottom low is a book worth reading.

I didn't think it possible, but I love this even more than the Divinicus Nex Chronicles. I somehow managed to love the characters even more, especially Kiara and Leontes, as well as their relationship. I love how original the concept and plot were. The humor? Even more amazing, and at times more mature. I am completely smitten with this book, and am so friggin excited to read more from this series.

CANNOT recommend this enough. Just read it. It's splendid.

This was a fast enough read. I love the Demons at Deadnight series by the authors and this was definitely a must read for me. Let me say this, don't compare this book to the Divinicus Nex series. It is very different, a bit mature, has action, some gore, the crazies & is not the same world etc.. While it is hard not to compare different series by same authors, I would suggest to keep an open mind. Ok...let's begin ;)

It was a hard one to review without giving away too much of the plot. I felt that the book started off as if it was in the middle of the series. There was a lot left out and I'm sure we'll be getting prequel novels to explain to us more about the Midnight Poison world, characters and their past. This world is full of all kinds of supernatural species -- shifters, vamps, witches, fae etc. -- and humans are unaware of that they exist. Each species has their own queen or leader and are governed by them.

Kiara (I love the name), our MC, has no memory of her past, is a tad childish, unpredictable and she is cray-cray....seriously. She has amnesia and suffers from other psychological issues - sorry, cannot say much to give away the plot. It was quite interesting (to say the least) trying to keep up with her throughout book. She's living a sheltered, protected life with her guardians, the vampires, for reasons that we don't know. She feels cooped up for sure. I mean who wouldn't? Imagine being surrounded by doctors, vampires and more vampires...you're not allowed to venture outside for fear of either hurting yourself or accidentally hurting the humans. Then, she's inadvertently sucked into this Oleander's killing spree -- who is killing supernatural beings (vamps and shifters) brutally and risking a supernatural war. Oleander's an immortal, super powerful, uber killer that came out of hiding after many years. Everyone has heard of the legend of his killing spree & is scared of what it might mean. So, like any sane person would do (right??), she takes it upon herself to solve the mystery as she gets involved into this without her choice. The deeper she digs, despite being told to stay away from it all, the more she finds out about her past and capabilities. Every time she gets memory flashes there's a risk of her ending up going into a mental breakdown....hence, her fragile state. As she's immortal and knows she's bound to have some supernatural powers....but, cannot remember what? So, into the rabbit hole she goes..... How or why is Oleander killing? Who is he? Well, we do find out....and it was very interesting indeed.

Along the way, are two, super hot, supernatural men helping her. Leontes - hot & grumpy vampire and Jaeger - hot & playful shifter Prince. The two end up mixed up in the mystery and working along Kiara.

Leontes is investigating the murders as it involves the Vamp leaders. Als0, he's Kiara's guardian and all he wants to do is protect her.
She flashed a weak grin. “You worry too much.”
He sighed. “Because you worry not enough.”

I'm not quite sure how to feel about him yet. I do like his character. I'm not quite sure of his motivation? We kept getting sort of mixed signals (if you want to call it that) from him. He definitely has a HUGE (maybe violent) past with Kiara. But, we DON'T know to what extent? We got some glimpses into it with Kiara's memory flashes. But, other than that nothing. We know he cares for her now and seems to have her best interest at present. He's very protective of her as well. Still he keeps his distance from her emotionally. WHY? One can make some guesses based on the cryptic glimpses. Yet, I want to know MORE cuz I feel his past glimpses with Kiara were somewhat misleading. Leontes also has a super power....he can get memory impressions from objects depending on the emotions involved at the time of the object being held by the owner. I thought it was super cool.

Jaeger, he made me laugh throughout the book. Jaeger was the playful, sinful, flirty, & risk taker to Leontes's cautious, closed off, serious, grumpy side. They both were always at each other's throat in a fun way, both wanting the best for Kiara in their own way and the banter between them was funny at times. I enjoyed how Jaeger trusted Kiara enough to push her to do her best despite her shortcomings. However, I also felt that him not knowing her full past, pushing her to her limits also put Kiara at risk. All three had an interesting dynamics together. Oh and he definitely wants Kiara ;)

Another character, who has a past with Kiara is Bane. He came across as an asshole vampire in the beginning, however, later on things were not quite black and white as it seemed. There is no love interest with him. However, they do share a past of some sort. What? How is he involved? He definitely wants to see Kiara happy.

One thing that I found odd in the book was Kiara's meeting with the human teenagers. I can't help but feel they may play a role in the future books. I was expecting them to pop up in the book again but they never did. The reason I found it odd was I wasn't sure whether it was to establish them as characters for future books (cuz of the whole interaction how it went) or was it just to show us readers the degree of Kiara's mental capacity.

The book is mostly in Kiara's POV with some Leontes as well. There are twists in the story that you may or may not see coming. There is action, banter, gore, kissing, and lot of left out world/past in this book. I did find at times tough to keep up. Not sure whether it was the writing or just Kiara's special umm...cray crayness. There is also an issue of the love triangle possibility. Have I mentioned that I HATE love triangles. I mean, most of the time I find them pointless and add nothing to the plot except unnecessary drama. Not to mention, it points to the fact that a girl cannot make up her mind and is being a selfish twat. I am HOPING that there is none of that. A girl can hope, right?????

I must say that the story is definitely unique. The ending was a cliffhanger and a major twist. Which begs for the next book to come out soon. I did enjoy reading this book despite the mental whiplash at times. It was entertaining for sure. For now, I will continue with the series.

Total Spoiler...read at your own risk. I put this merely for discussion purpose with anyone who has read the book. I would recommend reading the book first though ;)

Secrets. This book is filled with so many secrets, it was really difficult for my head to wrap around. Just when you start to feel like something is making sense the author throws you for a major loop. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Kiara is someone who is feared, but most think she's crazy. But is she really crazy, or is she playing a dangerous game? That is something that haunts you the entire book, along with two guys who seem to be "love" interests, but also something else too, maybe even enemies.

This book is filled with mystery, but it is also laugh out loud hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing half the time, and the other half I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was really going on.

And then it ends giving us a few hints without enough information of who is on whose side, and what is going to go down next. I can't wait for more in this series, and I hope it answers my questions while still being just as good as this one.

Fans of DAD: it is not going to be the same writing structure as DAD. But the humor (although darker) is still there and the crazy events. Plus some really hot moments, if you know what I mean.

New readers: you can choose to read it or not based on the summary. As an avid reader, I would not only recommend trying it out but also to try their Demons at Deadnight. If this is not your cup of poison, DAD might be for you ;)

Holy crap, that was a ride! There was always something going on in the book. I feel like my brain has to take a break now though. I really liked Jaeger. God, he is a flirt but he's just so noble and cute. A part of me wants to ship him and Kiara but I know that it's not going to happen. A girl can hope :(

On terms of why I only mark it as good is because the third-person writing was a bit confusing to me. Some third-person books that I've read would allow readers to see one person's thoughts and feelings but also hints of the other characters' emotions as well. Such as Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series. This book felt more like an experimentation on writing, trying to figure a way to use third-person to their advantage. It was troubling trying to read it and not feel slightly confused over something. I really liked the concept, and I can tell it was to add more mystery to the book (since the ending was a totally shocker, I didn't see it coming). Had it been first-person it would've been hard to pull the ending off. The ending was a cliffhanger packed with questions of what-the-hell-was-that?

Am I going to wait for another year or two for the next book? Hell yeah. Why? I love a good mystery in a book and I love trying to solve them as I read. I'm going to go figure out the ending so I'm going to end this here. I can't wait for the next book!

Ok, this book was slightly weird but it kept me intrigued....First, Kiara is NUTS...I don't really get her but the ending through me for a loop. Like multiple personalities or something...Leontes...come on...I don't really know what to make of him really and Jaeger...it's weird that he kinda just jumped into it with Kiara like that...not really sure what to make of what is going on really but I kinda like it...lots of twists at the end there...

I don't want to rate this book, because I'm conflicted and it may be a low star.

On the one hand, Midnight Poison has all the elements that I love -- action, mystery, and craziness. Some reviewers complain about the ambiguous beginning, yet that's exactly what makes this book intriguing. Readers aren't given all the answers and it's thrilling to have to guess continuously. However, while the ideas in this book are awesome, the execution has much room for improvement. The writing and words choices in some scenes aren't handled very well, unfortunately.

Regarding the romance, I have to say that the love triangle feels totally unnecessary. Kiara and Jaeger’s romantic relationship seems too fast and forced. Why can't they just be friends? What's the purpose of this love triangle? Does it drives the plot forward, reveals characters’ nature, or help characters grow? Or is it just there for dramas and allow readers to swoon over two hot guys? Looking at the positive reviews, I guess many enjoy this type of relationship conflicts.

As for Leontes, I can understand his actions. Obviously, he and Kiara are enemies in the past; both did terrible things to the other. And that's why although he does care for Kiara, he keeps his distance. I guess Leontes wants Kiara to remember their horrible history, what he did to her and gives her the choice to take revenge or forgive him. Only when she regains her memory and still likes him, would Leontes admit his feelings.

Kiara reminds me of Myrnin from the Morganville Vampires series at times.

Obvykle bych tomu nedala pět... Ale přistihla jsem se, že když narazím na opravdu dobré YA, mívám tendence zaokrouhlovat nahoru. :D
Oh, a abych nezapomněla zmínit ten nejdůležitější detail - začalo to masakrem. :3

A tím myslím certifikovaně nepříčetná. A o to více úžasná.

:D. My, my, nečekala jsem to.

Yes!!! You ladies never disappoint. I freaking loved it! There is so much to this story, but you guys are SO good and thorough in explanations, details, and world building that the reader is never left behind or lost as to what's going on. And I LOVE how your books always start with some sort of action and everything just builds from there. It seems so fast paced and fluid that we, the readers, get so lost in the story that it's over before we're ready. You guys are FREAKING good!!

This story is a little darker and a little more adult than their DNC series, which they give you fair warning about ahead of time. There's violence and gore, adult situations and innuendos. Yea, I'm down.

I love Kiara! She's a total bad ass, yet she's clinically coo coo which gives her the abandon to be sort of chaotically reckless. Or at least that's how sane people would see it. Lol! She kind of reminds me of...

Then, there's Leontes. Her stuffy guardian, who seems to be fighting feelings for her. Leontes' all business no play attitude is part of what made Kiara's actions that much more enjoyable. I feel like we've only scratched the surface with him though and I am sooo looking forward to learning more about his character.

I liked Jaeger too. To me, he came off as adorable, mischievous and roguish. He seems to encourage Kiara's crazy, which is entertaining, where as Leontes discourages the crazy in hopes of keeping her safe. I am seriously looking forward this love triangle.

Side thought: What about Bane??? My curiosity is piqued!

Review to come!

Update 9/5/17:

Actual rating: 3.5 stars

Midnight Poison is incredibly difficult to review and rate for me. On one hand, I did enjoy the story...enough that I'll probably check out the second book...but on the other hand, there were a lot of things I didn't like about the story as a whole. This is tough for me to even say (and tougher still for me to give and A&E Kirk novel less than 5 stars) because I'm a huge fan of the Divincus Nex Chronicles. I know I love the authors' writing style, and I love how they tell a story. I had every intention of adoring this book just as much as the Divinicus Nex series, but this one fell a little flat.

Let me start with the stuff I didn't like so much. This book is very different than their other series, and because of that it might not be everyone's particular poison (the pun was there and I had to do it, sorry ;p ). The main issue I had with this book was the characters. Since this is supposed to be geared toward an older audience, I expected the characters to be a bit more mature. The biggest character I had an issue with was our MC, Kiara. She read very juvenile to me, with immature behavior and childish talk. I honestly couldn't take her seriously half the time because of this, and she often read like she was 11 or 12 years old, and not an adult. I wanted to love her character, but I just ultimately never did. I also felt that the characters weren't as well developed as I have come to expect from A&E Kirk. This pains me to say because one of the things I love the most about them is their extraordinary ability to make me love every single character they write! Also, the romance was a little off for me. There is a love triangle, but it felt extremely forced and unnecessary. It didn't seem to have a purpose honestly, and appeared only to be there for an extra bit of drama (which wasn't needed).

This being said, there is a reason I gave this book 3.5 stars. I loved how dark the humor was in this story. It really drove the story forward because A&E Kirk added humor into scenes where you wouldn't think there should be humor...but it worked. This book is also very action-packed. Which is what A&E Kirk do best (besides the funny). They incorporated plenty of plot twists that kept you intrigued while reading and in general, the book was just a fun read. There were a couple parts that lagged and were a bit slow, but this was few and far between. The ending definitely was a doozy and is the one major reason I have to find out what happens next!!

Overall, I think where I found this story lacking was in its execution. For the most part, the story was fun and intense. It's definitely hotter and more gritty than the Divinicus Nex Chronicles. However, this being said, it wasn't what I come to expect from A&E Kirk because elements of the story felt rushed. I wanted to be able to connect with the characters more, I wanted to enjoy the romance....but I just couldn't. I am hoping that in the next book these problems are remedied so that I can give the sequel a 5 star rating and review. I would check this out if you're a fan of the Divinicus Nex series, however know that it might not be your particular vial of poison (okay, I swear I'm done with the puns!!)

Happy reading :)
