This book was brought to my attention by Love Kissed Reviewers, but boy am I wishing it hadn't been! The book completely sucked! There were these huge unexplained jumps in the emotional status of the hero and heroine, not to mention that Blake was a money grubbing jackass! All he seemed to care about was the bottom line, then he finally makes it seem like he cares about Grace before he pulls a Richard Gere Pretty Woman move that makes him worthless in my eyes! I really liked Grace, especially her passion for the summer camp. The situation with the "Queen of the Island" was not explained well, and really felt tacked on to me. The final insult was that this book ended on a cliffhanger, which I absolutely hate, especially since there was no prior indication of it. Saying "Harper Island Part One" would have been better, Mr. Morrow, but with the huge jumps that happened in your condensed timelines, I won't be continuing with the series anyway. This just wasn't worth my time.

Love vs. Hate

Cute beginning of Grace and Blake's story. It is obvious they have chemistry between them but arrogance and superiority might get in their way. Will they merge into a relationship based on love or will their hatred for each other over Camp Hope get in their way. I can't wait for the next installment to read on.

This was fully a 5-star read, until . . .

. . .The darn cliffhanger. I shouldn't be surprised, and I truly understand it from the author's viewpoint, but it's the reader's biggest turn-off. But the story itself is awesome. Heroine Grace lives for her beloved Camp Hero, the camp for kids who've lost a parent or parents while in military service. The camp that saved her soul after her dad was kind in combat when she was young. The camp who was founded by Blake's father which Blake himself hates for some reason and has the power to close down. Blake may not want the camp, but he wants Grace. Enter Trevor, a former camper himself, who went on to make a fortune as a result of the positivity and confidence he gained from the camp's influences, and has donated a million dollars to Camp Hero. But it's only enough to sustain the camp for a year. Blake makes a disgusting offer to Blake, who is horrified and, upon realizing what he's done, gives her the deed to the camp property. Except his own mother inform him that as the board chairman, he had no right to do so, but they can discuss it at a bird meeting on Monday morning. The end, to be continued. Grace didn't want to want Blake, but just when she began to, his stupid proposition turned her want to hatred and disgust. Blake wants Grace , for fun he thought, but . . . I haven't decided whether to purchase the next book or not, but the cliffhanger will fester until I do.

After reading something heavy, I tend to look for something a bit more lighthearted, preferably something with a few laughs along the way. Between the cover and blurb, I thought this one might fit the bill. Boy, was I wrong. It is pretty lighthearted for the most part since the angst level is low, but I didn't find it humorous or romantic. Arrogance in the leading man can be attractive - to a point, but Blake is beyond that. He's a thoroughly unlikable jerk and every time he opens his mouth, he solidifies my opinion of him that much more. The story is choppy at best with what felt like a lot of missing information. I realize that this is the first book in the series and often times, that means there's the possibility of a cliffhanger and we get that here. The problem is I didn't find a single thing to entice me further into this story. Just as Blake attempts to do something that might redeem him somewhat, we're left hanging. I did like Grace, but I have no desire to see if she ends up with Blake, especially since I spent the entire ninety minutes it took to read this hoping that she'd give him the punch in the mouth he so desperately deserved, and regardless of any redeeming actions on his part, I find such a quick change in character to be completely unbelievable.

When the son of the founder of Grace's beloved childhood summer camp decides to sell it, she needs a plan to save it. Luckily he's the best man at a wedding Grace is also involved with back in her hometown so she sets out to change his mind during the wedding festivities. Despite being on opposite sides of the issue, they stir a passion in each other that just starts to heat up when the book comes to an abrupt end with no conclusion...I didn't realize it was part one (although it says book one). I don't care for cliffhangers so thus my lower rating.

Note: I did receive an ARC of the book and my review is voluntary.

For a debut novella I would say Mr. Morrow has a good future ahead of him. This is a fun, quick read that had me laughing out loud a time or two or three or four, I lost count. I love the characters of Grace and Blake. They are like oil and water, they don't mix well. But there is this tension between them and I can't wait to see what is going to happen next. Waiting patiently for the next book. I recommend the read.

This is book one of this series. It ends on a cliffhanger. Basically an enemies to lovers romance. An engaging plot, good chemistry and engaging characters. Grace is determined and passionate in her quest to save Camp Hope and she is more than woman enough to go toe-to-toe with Blake. Blake is a calculating business man determined to close the camp due to fiscal and emotional reasons. A good read that is barely getting started before you get hit with the cliffhanger.

Enjoyable

Grace is going home for her best friends wedding, she is Maid of Honor. She runs a camp for kids who have lost a parent. She started as a camper, became a counselor & now she runs it. Blake's dad started up the camp but he hates it because he feels it took his dad away from him. He is the best man at his younger brothers Brett's wedding, who is marrying Graces friend.

THERE’S A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE

A riveting book with antagonists and goals that need to be reached. Older man, younger woman and sexual fire to satisfy all. Contains a cliffhanger and you will want to read the next book.

Good but frustrating

The story is well told. I like first person narrators, but the end is very frustrating. I really want to know what happens to the camp and between Grace and Blake.

Good start

I enjoyed this right up until I realized that it was part of a series and has a serious cliffhanger! It’s a fun read, but you wont be satisfied until you read all 3.

So I read book one and two together and wrote one review and thought I would post it n the individual books as well.

This author provides a wonderful emotional read in this 2 book set where we learn of a man and see two conflicting opinions of who this man is. One person Grace loves him for all he did for her when she needed him and the Camp she loves and we have Blake who despises him for his own reasons. This Camp is what ties them together and the Island is what may keep them. The discovery and of their feelings for each other causes wild chaos and repercussions and loads of laughs, sometimes. They are explosive and therefore quite entertaining but also at times it's painful too. The swirl of emotions and the wonderful writing bring us a story not easily put down, and good to the last word. A third book would be nice though to finish the story.

While I have never read this author before, his work is refreshing and he writes a wonderful story. I look forward to more of his work.

Can a fish out of water be the biggest fish in the pond? That might be what it takes for Grace to save the children's' camp she loves. At the same time she has to deal with a man who pushes all of her buttons, both good and bad. So far I'm loving this group of quirky characters that inhabit Harper's Island. Grace is sassy and independent and willing to fight for what she believes in. She has wonderful friends and family that support her. Poor Blake ends up being the odd one out; not quite the same age group as Grace's friends and the man behind the decision to close the camp. Some of his behavior makes hi not very likeable, but there's enough depth to the character that I think he'll be redeemable. The sparks between Grace and Blake are instant and blazing. I can't wait to see what the next installment of the story brings us.

enemies turn lovers. Grace will do anything to protect the camp. Blake wants to close it. It can't be about money. There has to be something else. Grace and Blake are explosive together. I love her unconventional ways. She speaks her mind, especially when she let's Blake know what she thinks of him. She is not like the typical female that lives on the island. While they were getting there hair and nails done and worrying about what to wear to the next gala she was getting her degree. She is not like any other female B lake is used to. She will fight for the camp especially because of her personal feelings with it. Blake tells her they will work it out. I cannot wait to see how they make that happen.

Grace has been running Camp Hope, a place near and dear to her heart. At the camp, she found strength at a difficult time when she was younger. Blake Morgan is the CEO of the company the owns the camp. The camp has been bleeding money and Blake is determined to close it down. Grace's best friend is about to marry Blake's brother. Now, Grace has to spend a lot of time around Blake as the wedding nears. Will the strain between these two ruin the wedding? What happens when others start trying to force them together? It was very enjoyable to read a romance written by a male author and I think he did a great job. I can't wait for the next part of the series.

Grace is a true fire cracker. She has a love for Camp Hope and she is not about to let Blake take it from her. Blake has some underlying issues that I'm sure will be outed in later books. This was a great book. I truly couldn't stop reading once I started it. The characters were well defined and the plot was great. I'm already anticipating the next book.

I can't believe I read the whole book only to find it ends with a cliff hanger! The story is okay--pretty formulaic--without any real "heat." The characters don't seem that real to me...and that's something I expect in a good novel.

This book didn't really keep my focus--I kept wanting to read faster to see if it got better. Not so much . I was disappointed.
