His NFL career over, Matt returns to his Wyoming ranch, determined to do whatever it takes to win his high school love, now that she's finally free from an abusive, dominant husband. Diana has done a switch, though. Even though Matt is no sexual submissive, he will do anything even let her take the lead in bed. Love rekindled, they realize spicy vanilla's not a bad flavor as they finally begin a life together.
This is a revised, updated version of the book originally published in 2009.
First published in 1996, Jacobs has sold close to fifty books and novellas. SANDSTORMS was a 2007 nominee for the prestigious ROMANTIC TIMES Reviewers' Choice award for best erotic romance. Her books have earned awards including the Passionate Plume (best novella, 2006, second place contemporary, 2008), the Desert Rose (best hot and spicy romance, 2004) and More Than Magic (best erotic romance, 2004). She has been a double finalist in separate categories of the EPPIES and From the Heart RWA Chapter’s contest. Three of her books have been translated and sold in several European countries.
A CPA and former hospital financial manager, Jacobs now writes full-time, with the help of Mr. Blue, the family cat who sometimes likes to perch on the back of her desk chair and lend his sage advice. He sometimes even contributes a few random letters when he decides he wants to try out the keyboard. (Most of the time Blue just curls up, hides his eyes with his paws...and sleeps!)
I was really interested in reading this story ever since meeting the character of Diana in Roped. However, this book was a total let down for me. What she endured was glossed over, never going in depth with it. Likewise, her time in rehab was also glossed over, to the point where I was wondering why she even needed rehab in the first place if all she did was learn how to give rote answers. Because of this, we only get a superficial picture of Diana. Her hero/lover, Matt, was also relegated to a superficial picture of himself.
Another problem with it was that it took place in the same time frame and same setting/backdrop as Hitched, almost as if the author couldn't be bothered with a timeline for the series or wrote Hitched and Lassoed as one book, then split it into two different ones. This story does have a slightly unfinished feel to it.
I also didn't like the decision made at the end of the book. There was only a superficial reason for it given and I would have liked to know a lot more as to why they chose to do this.
All in all, the book was a total disappointment, and I regret the money spent on it.
Recovering from the abusive relationship with her ex, Diana is terrified to get involved again with a dominant man. Matt loves Diana and only learnt the tricks of the BDSM lifestyle to be close to her. Though alpha by nature, he’s willing to show Diana that her needs will always come first and if that means she controls their love life so be it. I loved Matt’s patience and how he shows Diana that there is more to love than dominance or submission. Once again, the sex scenes are explicit though highly appropriate to the story
