Painted On My Heart is book two in the Layne Family Duet by Kindle Alexander. I fell madly in love with the first book, The Current Between Us which was Gage and Trent’s book. Now, it’s Gage’s cousin Arik’s book and I loved it so much!

Arik Layne is a hotel mogul and is Gage’s cousin. He is opening a brand new resort in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Escape Dallas. This will be the biggest of his hotels and in this one, Gage is opening an art gallery on the property. First, I want to say that Gage and Arik are more like brothers than cousins. They are both super close and also love to pick at each other. Their antics are non-stop, trying to embarrass each other. In fact, it seems the entire Layne family loves to get in on that! Arik has nothing against relationships. He’s just on the road more than home and he has never met anyone that interested him more than just for a hook up. Gage has gifted Arik a Kellus Hardin original work of art for each hotel opening. Ever since he saw the first piece, five years ago, he has felt an odd connection to the work. He can’t wait to see what Gage is giving him for this new property. And he’s also excited because Kellus lives in the area and is going to be present when his piece is revealed. He’ll finally get to meet him.

Kellus Hardin had thought at one time that his life was nearly perfect, living with the only man he’d ever loved and making a living at his art. But over the years, his relationship with John had deteriorated as John’s addictions took over his life. They have now been apart for a year but John continues to invade Kellus’s life, breaking in to the house, stealing everything he owns. He has accepted that he will never be out from under him. That he will be alone forever. But then it happened, when he was watching his painting be placed in the new hotel, his eyes met with with the most beautiful man he’d ever seen. There was a connection he couldn’t describe that changed his very being. But that was something he could never allow. His life was a mess and he could never allow someone else into it. It was his burden to carry.

When Arik sees something he wants, he is not one to give up, ever! He knew as soon as his eyes connected with Kellus that he had to know him. That there was something there he couldn’t begin to understand but had to pursue. Every step he was able to move forward with Kellus, they took two back. He clearly had things he was hiding but Arik would not give up. He knew this was the most important thing he had ever done, that Kellus was as important to his future as breathing.

I will stop there. I want you to experience the journey of Arik and Kellus just as I did, one page at a time. You will see that Kellus is perhaps the best man you will ever meet. Your heart will break and will also fill with love for this man. Arik was sort of learning as he went. He’d never been in love and he was practically obsessed with Kellus. He wanted everything to happen right away. Patience was not his strongest attribute! One thing, though, is that the love they shared was true and deep. And it’s that love that would get them through everything in their paths until they could find the happy ever after they both deserve. I adored both of the books in this duet. I will not soon forget these characters.

This story follows two men whose lives cross at exactly the right (and wrong) moments.

Arik Layne, a confident hotel mogul, (cousin to Gage from the first book), has admired Kellus’ artwork from afar for years.

Kellus Hardin, an artist gaining well-deserved recognition, is still trying to rebuild his life after a devastating breakup with the only man he’s ever loved.

Kellus’ past with John is heartbreaking. John is an addict, crystal meth, and infidelity. Even a year after the relationship ends, Kellus is still dealing with the fallout, the break-ins, the theft, the emotional scars. I actually wish the story had dug even deeper into this part of his history, it would have helped me better understand the guilt and responsibility he’s still carrying.

Arik is patient in a way that feels almost too good to be true. He’s the steady presence Kellus doesn’t believe he deserves, someone who shows up, listens, and quietly tries to help, even when Kellus pushes him away.

One of the main characters is living with an HIV diagnosis (undetectable viral load). This portrayal was written so well. There are thoughtful conversations about sexual health, PrEP, and the character’s dedication to caring for his body and overall health felt authentic and hopeful. It’s rare to see this handled so well in romance, and I really appreciated it.

My biggest issue with the book is the pacing. There are moments where the story becomes overly wordy, and some conversations or scenes feel like filler.

Tropes/themes:
Gay contemporary romance
Hurt/comfort
Artist/businessman
Redemption and healing
Addiction and recovery fallout
Protective hero
Found family
Living with HIV
Emotional vulnerability
Second chance at life (not romance)
Wealthy hero/emotionally guarded hero
HEA

Although this is tied to the first book through Arik’s family, it can absolutely be read as a standalone.

We may have had to wait awhile for this one, but it was well worth the wait. Another great read from the Kindle Alexander duo.

This one had all of the things I've come to love from a Kindle Alexander read:

--Slow build
--Engaging
--A possessive MC
--Off the charts chemistry
--Plenty of satisfying sexy times
--Low to no relationship angst

It does have a plot device I am not a huge fan of, which is a personal preference. But I was pleased with how everything played out. That's the only reason I'm rounding down and not up.

This book is long, but it didn't at all feel long. I found myself wanting to read every free chance I got.

Bonus, we got to re-visit some of my favorite Kindle Alexander characters. It's been awhile since I've read the Nice Guys series - I think a re-read is in order.

An ARC was provided to me by the author for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion. A review was not a requirement.

2.5 Stars.
I know this will be an unpopular, minority opinion. Let me say upfront that this will likely appeal greatly to many readers, especially Kindle Alexander fans. I have greatly enjoyed several of their books but the last few haven't worked for me. Much of it is caused by a, " Its me not the book" situation. The authors wanted to surprise their readers with some of the details of the book, so I'll do my utmost to explain my disappointment without spoilers.

The story was very long, too long in my opinion because I felt the pacing was not suited to the length. There was far too much detail in the first 30% or so that I don't feel did enough to move the story forward. Much of it was due to several characters being given page time but other than two in particular, they didn't contribute much either. When the story began to move on, I did like Kellus character and had some empathy for his situation and troubles but I despised Arik from the start. He was the type of character I dislike; too arrogant, too entitled, too pushy and ignored almost every opinion but his own. This carried right into his relationship with Kellus and as the story progressed I lost any connection to him as well. He began to seem like a willfully blind, weak person and complete doormat and not only because of Arik. I never did feel much draw to them as a couple and even the use of my sex-colored glasses didn't make the sexy scenes any sexier.

The use of both characters POV's, usually a favorite device of mine, didn't do enough. Kellus history with his nemesis was never fully disclosed, even in his own thoughts. So it gives the reader little understanding when Arik and Kellus reach the crisis point in the story. We're told he's feeling a certain way but not enough about exactly why. Barely any of that history appeared as dialogue or discussion between Arik and Kellus either. My dislike of Arik intensified every time he went behind Kellus back to do things that HE decided were for Kellus own good. When Kellus would find out, he usually ended up being perfectly fine with it. Kellus also never explained what drove his emotional reactions to the critical situation.

That led to my greatest personal peeve, the lack of communication leading to misunderstanding trope. This was also packed into the last 20% of the story, which didn't provide sufficient resolution and made the ending seem rushed. In fairness, it didn't lead to a huge breakup drama but it did point up the lack of depth to the relationship narrative. So no, I couldn't get into this one. It was too far outside the realm of realism for a story that felt like it was trying to be realistic and relevant. I didn't achieve the same enjoyment I felt with Double Full or my very favorite, Full Disclosure. But if you liked the others in the Kindle Alexander catalogue, you'll likely enjoy it more than I.

5 Brush Stroke Stars

Some facts in evidence....
1. I love Kindle Alexander.
2. I love long books and characters that connect and interweave with other stories.
3. I am a SUCKER for a good romance.
4. I am all about usual names and odd spellings.
So add all those us and you've got....BAM! Painted on My Heart.

Arik is a rich guy who likes to increase his empire by building resorts. He is a loyal guy who is close to his family and close to those he in business with. His resorts are going high tech and high end. From the posh lobby to the in house art gallery, the Escape Resorts are top of the line. When Arik opens one in Dallas, he decides to move to Texas and bring his whole family along.

Kellus is an up and coming artist who has caught the eye of gallery owners and collectors. His paintings, glass pieces and sculptures are unique and quickly gaining in popularity. But behind the canvas and clay lives a man who has secrets, disappointments and fear. He has a studio our behind his house, healthy food in the fridge, and multiple locks on his doors.

He bypassed the garage and went for the front door, coming to a abrupt halt when he noticed the door standing wide-open. Dread filled his belly.....He could see from where he stood that the television was gone. His heart sank.

Arik is intrigued by the artist showing at the opening of his new resort. He wants to know the man behind the art. The man who is brilliant and guarded.

....there was an unsettling in his soul, a wanting beneath his skin that he couldn't seem to get past. And dammit to hell, all he could focus on was a set of beautiful blue eyes that haunted his every thought....They were damn hard to get past.

Kellus can't let himself fall for Arik. He has too many reasons he can never be with someone. Kellus' past won't let him relax. He can't stop looking over his shoulder. Can he take a chance on Arik? Can he let Arik take a chance on him? More than his heart is at stake.

The stroke of midnight was coming, but he'd allow himself the fairytale until the very last chime.

Painted on My Heart is classic Kindle Alexander with a bonus. This story blends the worlds of their other books into one. You will love catching up with Trent, Gage, Colt and other Men of Kindle Alexander when they all come together in DFW. The Dallas area is the canvas of Arik and Kellus' story. It gives the background color and dimension.

...it's the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. But who live around here call it the bridge to nowhere....

Painted is the story of loyalty. Holding on to the idea of something. Sometimes the idea of what you imagined is only thing you have left to hang on to. And the pain of realizing that the idea is all you have left.

Dropping his head in defeat, his shoulders slumped, and he felt that all too familiar gnawing in his gut. He refused to cry. He was done with that.

Painted is also the story of what you are wiling to give up for love. Like your hard and fast rules. The rules that kept you isolated. The rules that you thought kept you safe. And kept others safe from you. And the dreams you had already abandoned? Would love inspire you to dream again? Even when you have every reason to stop dreaming? To think your time for dreams had passed.

"Thank you", Kellus whispered.
"For what"
"For this. For tonight."
"We've only just started," Arik said, drawing him closer, placing open mouth kisses along his jaw line as he turned him so his back was to the bed."
"And it's already more that i every hoped for."

You know I don't do spoilers so there is so much I can't tell you. But all you need to know is that Painted is one of my favorite reads of 2016. It is full of emotion, anxiety, twists and more than a few "oh shit" moments. Don't call me when you have a book hangover, I'm just warning you now. And make sure your Kindle is on a bunge cord. It might be going across the room. Along with your heart.

He'd never been any good at reading the signs of attraction.

While Arik and Kellus will never find their names on a keychain, they might find a the future they thought was lost to them. And you will find your next favorite read.

Notes :

- My goodness. This is so boring. There are too many details. Too wordy. Too much filler.
- I like the UST going on here. *clears throat*
- I don't even mind how Arik pursued Kellus comes across predatory. Good god, I just don't like the HIV plot. I kept thinking Kellus dying. Ok, Kellus was not dying for sure. Thank god. And how Arik just brushed it off like it's no big deal, I just can't... Yes, they have a consultant and everything like that, but it's not that easy. If I had known there would be this plot, I won't pick this book. This is personal opinion, okay? I think it's not everybody's problem.
- I don't really like this book. It's such a downer. And it shouldn't be this long. :(
- I really miss the magic like I had with 'Texas Pride'. I think I should re-read it.

Note: Though I finished reading Painted on My Heart the day before it was released, I withheld publishing this negative review because I am a reviewer for a blog that participated in the blog tour for its release. Now that the tour is over, here is my review.

2 stars – The writing team that is Kindle Alexander wrote the first M/M romance I ever read (Full Disclosure), and I have read a few others since then. So when the opportunity to read Painted on My Heart landed in my inbox, not only did I jump, I jumped eagerly. I hate to admit that I was thoroughly disappointed, but by the end of the book, I hated both of the main characters, so even though the plot was generally good, I simply don’t have a positive response to make.

Artist Kellus Hardin’s loyalty to his last boyfriend shattered him, and the man is still making a mess out of his life, but Kellus can’t leave his best friend to waste away. Arik Layne is rich, powerful, and confident, and he has no interest in long-term relationships…until he meets Kellus. But even though Kellus is attracted, he can’t put his heart on the line easily. Arik is determined to make Kellus his, no matter the cost.

Millionaire/billionaire stories are touch-and-go to me. Those that have millionaires who are leary of relationships because they’ve been taken advantage of are usually fine. But when the rich guy is the pushy, domineering type, the power imbalance caused by money is often too much for me to get enjoyment out of the story. That’s pretty much the case in Painted on My Heart. I didn’t care for Arik’s attitude and demeanor from the outset, and once he and Kellus started dating, his solution to every one of Kellus’s problems was to throw money at it, even when Kellus insisted he didn’t want that. I just can’t stomach a pushy son of a bitch who refuses to respect the wishes of the person he claims is the love of his life. Sure, when reading the rich-guy trope, I expect this sort of behavior to happen a couple of times in order to make it a point of contention between the couple, maybe even causing them to split for a while. Here, however, even up to the very last major problem in the book, Arik threw his financial might around against Kellus’s wishes. But the final time, instead of Kellus being pissed, he turns all puppy-dog on us, so by that point, I hated both of them.

But my issues with the book aren’t limited to the characters. There are several plot-related issues I could start talking about, but that would make this review (rant) way longer than it needs to be—though it would be fitting, considering this book is about twice as long as it needed to be, a fact which only made my ultimate hatred of the characters even more disappointing—so I’ll limit it to the big one. And unfortunately, I can’t talk about it without spoilers, so I’m going to hide it with a spoiler tag: The ultimate resolution of the plot around Kellus’s ex-boyfriend included the revelation that . As if that weren’t bad enough, whereas this sort of revelation should have basically destroyed Kellus again, his reaction to the news is so ho-hum, so unrealistic, and so unbelievable that I couldn’t believe I had spent so many hours reading such total crap. I hate it when authors are so unrelenting to their characters, but to have it basically be brushed off? ARGH!

As much as I credit the ladies who are Kindle Alexander for starting my love for M/M romance, Painted on My Heart was a total disappointment. I kept waiting for it to get better, for them to draw me into the world and lives of their characters the way they did in the other books I read. But no dice. Damn.

I wish I had known in advance, because I know how difficult writing is, so I truly hate trashing books. But for me, "fair and honest" means exactly that.

The author and/or publisher generously provided me a complimentary copy of Painted on My Heart in exchange for this fair and honest review.

It is clear this writing duo took their time developing this complete wonderfully amazing story. Arik and Kellus captivated me and kept me glued to my kindle.

"I'm so disappointed I didn't love this. I mean this is Kindle Alexander!!! At first I was in love with the couple Kellus & Arik. Kellus was so broken. And yes their attraction to each other grew quick but I liked Arik's explanation to that.

I found myself attracted to you before I even knew who you were. Not to mention, I’ve always connected with your art- you know that - but since I’ve been exposed to your entire collection, I’m finding the pieces that matter the most to me are the ones that are inspired by your personal life.”

But ever since Kellus let Arik in on his big secret, why he wouldn't/couldn't commit to another man again, I really begun to dislike Arik....
This was serious buisness and Kellus was righteously concerned with Arik's safety and Arik just brushed it off.

description

I was really bothered with how easily they went on with their relationship. Sure they had a specialist over and had them explain things but that was it really.

description

And the John buisness!!!?? I could understand Kellus's commitment to him. He was his childhood's friend ffs and he just wasn't able to cut him loose..

But Arik's behaviour, his reluctance to understand his partner really ruined their relationship for me. Usually I love Kindle's men. They are big strong alpha men, but this was nearly bullying...

Such a bummer..

*** This amazing story starts out in darkness,
but ends in the light !***

The story of Kellus and his ex, is a dark and tragic, and still affects him as he tries to move on. Kellus is an artist in demand and Arik is one of his most avid fans. His art speaks to Arik, a successful businessman, who has come home to be closer to his new project and his family. There is a lot of love in that family.
Kellus's family removed themselves from his life because he kept enabling and helping his worthless ex, John. Kellus has a dark past with John, and possibly a dark future. Arik, with his wide open attitude has spotted Kellus, not knowing he's the artist, and he's attracted to the beautiful man.

They get to know each other, share desires and needs, plus try to navigate Kellu's need to care for undeserving john. After all, John has done all sorts of horrible acts that have hurt Kellus.
The men are truly made to be together. Arik is very patient and understanding about all of their obstacles. Kellus needs to snap out of his funk and lead his life, free fo feeling responsible for John. Arik is head over heels happy with Kellus. They have super sexy times, and are bringing each other heartwarming comfort. There is open dialogue about Kellus's HIV positive status, and the PrEP program Arik has already been on. It is tastefully discussed and explained.

These men in this wonderful cast are so perfectly melded together, through great conversations, and deep friendships. We get witty banter, and a unique understanding of each other's needs, and are ready to help. The sex is sizzling hot and erotic. We get a glimpse of their idyllic, contented life, where creativity and expression are flourishing.

This amazing tale of men who are destined to be together, will capture your heart. They will be together, no matter what !
I highly recommend this one ! ENJOY !

Wow! This book was such an emotional, heartfelt, full, and rich story. It was told with such depth and feeling that I felt like I lived the story with them.

Kellus Hardin is a talented artist working with Gage Synclair in his new gallery in the Dallas area. He's quiet, guarded, and struggling with so much that he tries to keep hidden. He feels alone. He is sad, anxious, and stressed. He's conditioned to believe that he is not good enough and he undervalues himself. His past has had serious repercussions on his present and makes him think his future will not hold much fulfillment.

Arik Layne is Gage's cousin and the resort owner where the gallery is located. He's confident, successful, rich, powerful, and cocky. He's a playboy and has never had a real relationship or wanted one. He has his own hidden anxiety and worries, but tries not to let them show. He loves art and is especially drawn to Kellus' pieces.

These guys have such a visceral response to each other--attraction, sexual tension, lust, and longing. Arik pursues. Kellus deflects, resists, and runs. But Arik is one persistent man who usually gets what he wants and for some reason he can't get past his need for Kellus. The dance between these two is fun, frustrating, and full of building tension. They have serious chemistry and they actually like each other, but their lives, priorities, and opinions vary and cause some skirmishes. And Kellus is reluctant to trust and open up to share all of his secrets.

But as they gradually begin to build trust, intimacy, and a chance at something good, they also have challenges to face both externally and internally.

These characters were solidly developed and broken down piece by piece to expose all of their vulnerabilities, fears, failures, and guilt. Kellus was such a loyal, caring man that absorbed guilt and blame for situations that were not his fault and he hated to be a burden to anyone. Kellus' past not only affected him, but also Arik in various ways and solutions were not easy. Kellus especially struggled with perceived imbalance in the relationship due to Arik's money and lack of baggage. But Arik was equally fearful that he was more emotionally invested than the skittish and guarded Kellus.

This book was funny, frustrating, angsty, steamy, emotional, and truly an epic love story. These guys had so much to deal with. There were times that I wanted to shake sense into them, especially Kellus. They could both be stubborn and set in their ideas. Kellus especially had so many conflicting emotions to face and to try to heal from. But deep down they both were vulnerable, anxious, worried and afraid something would ruin their chance at a good thing.

In some ways Arik made it easier for Kellus, and in other ways made it harder. I became so attached to these guys and I felt it all with them. I was glad we got both of their points of view. They were both likable and truly seemed to belong together despite their differences. They were so intense and passionate. Arik's tender care and acceptance of Kellus touched my heart and was so different than I initially expected from him since he appeared more arrogant, and selfish. I loved how Kellus brought about his soft and protective side. And Kellus was one of those characters that you just really wanted to see good things happen for since he was such a loyal and sweet man.

I enjoyed seeing more with Gage and Trent (The Current Between Us). Arik and his cousin, Gage added comic relief with their pranks, teasing, and shenanigans. Their family was also quirky. Some of the characters from other books in the Kindle Alexander world also make appearances as they settle into the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

This book is fairly long. It built slowly as the authors set the scene and transitioned with the other characters, and then Kellus and Arik's story was weaved in. So it takes a bit of time for them to really begin interacting and developing their connection. There also seemed to be a bit of repetition at times adding to it's length. But there really was a lot of story to tell and character growth throughout, along with drama and emotionally charged situations. But it was engaging, and made me feel like these people were real. The Texas scenery came alive. I live in Texas and things like the crazy weather, favorite DJs, and restaurants just made it all feel more real. Kellus' art was described so vividly that I could almost see it. There were some surprises, twists, and current topics.

This was truly a beautiful story of passion, love, healing, and hope. Their souls truly touched through the art, and their bodies, minds, and hearts had no choice but to follow, no matter the cost.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I know now that I should have read Current between Us before this one. It felt at times that I was missing some points and inside jokes, but I still enjoyed most of the story. I liked the angst in the first part of the book, Kellus's internal monologue and his struggle with his attraction to Arik and why it shouldn't go any further. I liked Arik's easy acceptance and support of Kellus's art and his health. Most of their interactions ranged from sweet and cute to slightly angsty. The intimate scenes were well written and a pleasure to read. This book was insta love all the way, at times it was real cute how Arik thought about his feelings to Kellus. It kind of got a little too much when Arik tried to steamroll Kellus into things he wasn't ready for.

I really had an issue with Kellus's attitude and his actions towards John, his ex/best friend. Someone should have put their foot down and really opened his eyes to what John was, and everyone just chose easy way out - to leave him floundering or to keep silent. The last quarter of the book contained too much of John, and I stood by Arik and what he thought about this whole situation. Kellus's actions and total forgiveness over John's actions enabled him to do more harm. That was not a favorite part.

I really liked the ending though. It was sweet and very happy with very positive vibe, and it was the perfect way to finish the story. I am happy to say that Kellus's finally opened his eyes and let go of these weird feelings he harbored towards John, and Arik truly became his world. Arik was still as domineering and high handed as before, but he mellowed as Kellus got his bearings back. All in all, I mostly liked the story. It was very steamy, angsty and through dual POV author managed to show me both men and what they were made of.

3,5 rounded up

This was my first book by Kindle Alexander and I was surprised how easily I got invested into the story. I enjoyed the writing but the book was pretty long. It also became wordy at times, but it kept my interest, and overall I really liked it.

Arik was beautiful, wealthy and unexpectedly sweet. The BT (boy toy) made me laugh so hard! Arik wanted only one night stands and was completely honest about it. But he fell hard for Kellus the beautiful but sad artist.

I thought the beginning dragged a little, especially when I was already at 10% and the MCs haven't even met. But then I loved their first dates.
Kellus deserved to be pampered and loved, but Arik went too strong on him, from the start. Arik was a player who never had to pursuit a man until now, and Kellus is the first man who refused him. It seemed like he just couldn't take no for an answer.

I also think that this was exactly the insta-love the author tried to convince us wasn't the case here. Well it kind of was. Making love from the start?! They didn't even know each other and for Arik to admit that he already knew Kellus from his art didn't feel realistic to me. Also it was too short of a time for Arik to fall for Kellus at a death-do-us-part level. But at least they were super hot together.

I had SO many red flags about John. I mean, I just knew he'll continue to wreck Kellus's life. Him causing so much pain to sweet and kind Kellus broke my heart! But I must admit I was kind of upset with him too. If he would have given up to John a long time ago, like he should have, he wouldn't have to deal with all his craziness now.

I couldn't believe how Kellus chose to help John even with all the horrors John brought to him. And I just don't get it why he never told his family about having HIV.

I loved the fighting scene when Kellus finally pushed John away. I was super glad Kellus went on John like a bull. He felt the need to push John far away from Arik, and this was so hot.

Their relationship was a little too fairy-tale for me, and if it weren't for the last chapters, this story would have been too sweet for my taste.

Overall I liked this book, even if I got SO angry on Kellus's determination to help John. And it pained me to see how awful Kellus felt and how much his relationship with Arik suffered because of his stubbornness. Well at least this story ends on a positive note, but I would have wanted a little more. Anyway I'll definitely read another book by Kindle Alexander.

MAGNIFICENT, SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!!!

Happy New Year Kindle Alexander!! Thank you for making mine that much more special with the release of this magnificent book. This different and unconventional relationship between Arik and Kellus was knee DEEP. NOBODY writes about difficult storyline situations like you do. I love the way ALL your couples are all in and all involved. This was a beautiful, as always heart touching story, with true meaning and purpose. I love your stories because I know they must come from the well of your heart. You made me care about the good, bad and the ugly characters in this story. It was a true strong and gripping story, full of every emotion. Once again, thanks for a great ride. Your books are sooo WORTH the wait!! Looking forward to ANYTHING you release next. Since I'm not on FB anymore, I will have to send you, Great Big Squeezy Sue Hugs from here. Continued GREAT SUCCESS in the New Year!! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

I love a tender romance. Not one with a lot of angst or drama for drama sake. And Kindle Alexander delivers a contemporary story that always delivers on those points for me.

Kellus and Arik are unlikely to find each other. But it's Kellus' artistic expression that speaks to Arik at a deeper level, and his pursuit is solely to find that intrigues him more. It's a beautiful story that reminds you that the person you give your heart to should always be the person who lifts you highest.

I really enjoy Kindle Alexander's books and I liked this one too. I felt so bad for Kellus, but a lot of his angst was self inflicted. I was with Arik and did not understand his guilt about John. I absolutely loved Arik. He definitely knows what he wants and just goes for it. I'm glad that the drama did not happen like I thought it was going to and I was happy to see Colt, Jace, Trent and Gage again.

This was an emotional roller coaster. Kellus was a man surviving on grit and adrenaline as he tried to manage his life as an artist and as an ex to a strung out addict who was hell bent on destroying him. His friendship with Gage brought him to Aric who was hosting a new art gallery within his hotel complex. The story then begins with the dogged determination of Aric chasing after who he wants - which was Kellus. Kellus was at an all time low but realized love was something he had never experienced and once he got a taste he started to find it became another aspect of his life he needed to juggle. This was really about two people learning to communicate and listen. It was sweet, sad and lots in between.

Painted On My Heart by Kindle Alexander is an Epic story from them. The storylines are right out of the real world (you are lucky if one of them has not touched your life). Painted On My Heart is connected to some of their other books so We get to catch up with other characters we already know, but it can be read as a standalone.
Arick Layne is a power to be reckoned with, even in the families’ Layne Empire. His cousin, Gage Synclair has been in a loving back & forth with Arick their whole lives. But a few years ago, he got one up by giving Arick a work of art from one of his lesser known clients, Kellus Hardin.
Kellus Hardin is a wonderful multi-media artist, in whose life he is now left facing the truth of his reality. He does not see how anything but his art and health can matter.
Arick and Kellus are finally in the same city, Dallas. They both are dynamic men who are set in their sexuality. For Arick, he feels he must start over every time Kellus leaves him. Kellus just cannot believe or allow the things Arick can bring to his life.
"The stroke of midnight was coming, but he would allow himself the fairytale until the very last chime."
Again, Kindle Alexander tells the best stories and Painted on My Heart is soul touching. Kindle Alexander again gives their readers the story voice they expect. I did not see the twists in Painted on My Heart, you are so surprised. They lead to the angst on several different levels that are so heart touching and a story that no one has told. It is sure going to surprise a few too --in a good way. Oh, my goodness-- I will never get over this story-- I cried and not since "Always" have I done this. This is my thoughts on Painted on My Heart from the copy I got. Give this story a read, You will not be disappointed.

Thanks Kindle Alexander & Good Writing

Starting off the new year right

This sets the bar extremely high for 2017 and we're only three days in.
This book took my breath away while alternately bruising and healing my soul. This book delved into some complicated issues with class and hope and also a healthy dose of pain and realism.
Loved both MCs and their relationship with each other and their families.
History and the present clash enough to question the future of these two, but the hearts of these men are so strong and true that you can't help but cheer for them to get their hard earned and deserved HEA. This is one that will stay with me for a long, long time.
We'll done. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this one. I really liked both Kellus and Arik and I really liked them together. I thought their relationship was sweet even though Kellus had a lot of baggage. Arik never gave up on him.

ARC received for an honest review

It has been a bit of a wait for this latest Kindle Alexander, but it was worth every second of the wait.

The time it has taken this duo to release Painted On My Heart has not been idle time. This dynamic duo have created a wonderful, amazing story. It is full of beautifully developed characters, heartbreaking yet heartwarming story lines that kept me enraptured from the first word to the last.

I read this book between Christmas and New Year whilst staying with friends, and I found my self sneaking away from the group to pick up my kindle and read some more.

Arik and Kellus' story ticked all the boxes. A slow burn romance (this girl is not a fan of insta-love!) with sexual tension out the wazoo, a beautiful, broken man struggling to see what his future can be, a sexy, possessive man out to get the man he wants. And all without a truckload of angst.

It is full of love, and most of all hope. I shed a tear or two throughout my read, but it wouldn't be a Kindle Alexander book if they didn't leave me a snivelling mess at some time!

I loved revisiting characters from earlier books by KA, and it has made me crave a reread (just need to find the time to fit one in now)

Now I am impatiently awaiting what they bring us next!

If you want to find out why Kindle Alexander is on my auto-buy author list, all you need to do is read Painted on My Heart. These characters…I just love these characters. They just reach right out and grab your heart and do not let go—especially Kellus. He didn’t just grab my heart—he crawled right inside and made his home there, and I don’t ever want to let him go. Arik was wonderful and I loved how caring and supportive he was, but Kellus…Kellus was simply stellar.

This story had a bit of a few different elements with a bit of an age gap, wealthy businessman/starving artist, difficult past to overcome, and those exes who just won’t go away. Each of those things on their own would have made an okay story, but put all together with Arik and Kellus and the phenomenal writing and I was completely pulled in (I would have read it in one sitting but sleep overruled me). Getting to see some of my favorite characters from this author's other stories was a huge bonus as well...Gage and Trent from The Current Between Us and Colt and Jace from Double Full...I've missed them so I loved seeing them here in this story.

Arik was totally smitten from Kellus the moment he laid eyes on him, and that was exacerbated by the connection he already felt through the pieces art Kellus had done that Arik already owned. Some may say it’s insta-love, but there’s really more to it than that thanks to that connection. It’s hard to explain, but once you read the story, it will be easier to understand. Kellus…the feels this man produces…my heart was overflowing for him, and the more I read the tighter that hold he had on my heart became. He is such an amazing, giving, caring man and I couldn’t agree with Arik more that Kellus deserved so much more that what he had been dealt in life.

The two of them together result in a rollercoaster of a relationship-one that Arik doesn’t give up on no matter what happens. He can’t imagine any ending other than the two of them always together, and the further into the story I read, the more certain of that I also became. They balance each other perfectly, and Arik is an unmoving pillar of support for Kellus in every way. Physically, they burn up the pages together-and even that is complicated thanks to Kellus’ ex. While Arik’s ex is more of a nuisance and fodder for teasing him, Kellus’ ex is the source of much of this story’s tension and drama, and it will keep you on your guard as you read wondering just how he’s going to affect the two of them at every turn.

I can’t emphasize enough how much Painted on My Heart moved me. Kindle Alexander’s stories have always been some of my absolute favorites, and this one is no exception. It is a fantastic 5-star read, and it’s joining the rest of this author’s stories in my re-read yearly list of books. This story is one I highly recommend to any M/M romance fan, and it is clearly meant for readers 18+ due to adult language and subject matter, and explicit M/M sexual content.

I knew I was going to love this… I just knew it.

Kellus is an indie artist just trying to get by one day at a time. With a junkie ex that he can’t seem stop bailing out of trouble and an incurable disease given to him by said ex; his ideas about what he deserves is pretty much nothing. The ex is the epitome of baggage that nobody needs. Constantly stealing and breaking into Kellus’s house to take his things, showing up at the worst times to cause trouble. I truly, truly hated him for Kellus; he’s the single worst part of Kellus’ life and I hated that he couldn’t seem to get rid of him. I kept wanting to skip ahead to make sure he got rid of him, or that the police would find him or something. He was truly a terrible person.

Arik is an important hotel owner and successful businessman. Meeting Kellus at one of his grand openings, he can’t seem to get him off his mind; but Kellus has so much baggage and a life that couldn’t possibly involve anyone else, he does his best to deny Arik’s advances, even though he’s just as attracted to Arik as Arik is him. Arik didn’t give up either; he was patient (sometimes) hardheaded and stubborn, they both were and it took a lot for Kellus to lower his guards, and rightfully so; he’d been through a lot with John-the ex. I wish I could say that I had as much empathy for him as Kellus seemed to, because I know that addiction is a terrible thing, it makes people not themselves and it’s a disease that hurts so many people, destroys so many people and it was a very sensitive subject that this story touched on. But, it also made you appreciate the kind of person Kellus was. He has such a good heart and because of that, Arik had no choice but to fall for him.

I can’t say I was all that broken up over what inevitably happened to John. I wish that Kellus would have gotten a little closure there, I feel like John got off easy… he didn’t have to atone for anything he’d done and I felt like he should have. I would have liked for him to have gotten help and all that and realized how much he was hurting Kellus,… if he even cared about that, which seemed the whole time that he didn’t….

On the plus side, I did enjoy seeing Gage, Trent, and Colt and his cheer boy  I love all of them, even though Gage got on my nerves a bit with him and Arik’s back and forth, but… my cousins and I are also annoying together so, it was relatable….still, I thought he went too far to be funny at times.

Overall, it was a great love story with so many obstacles because of one man, but I was so happy that Arik was so persistent and patient yet pushy. It ended beautifully.
4 stars from me!
