Overall Opinion: I'm a little stumped on how to rate this one tbh. I liked this more than I thought I would (which is a nice surprise because I've been in a book funk lately), but I still didn't love it. I think I could've, because I love this type of storyline! I love the relationship development spanning over a long period of time and I loved all the missed opportunities angst going on, but in the end I felt like something was amiss. I can't even pinpoint what exactly it is either. Maybe it was because the ending felt too abrupt. We have their big conflict being resolved (and a little too clean I might add) at 96%!!! I think I needed some time with them after that before we get their HEA! I know I might be reaching here, but something just didn't feel right... :/

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Lily and Trevin's story. It spans over more than 10 years. They first met as 8 year old neighbors who quickly became best friends. That friendship turned into something more as they got older, but the connection remained strong. Big life changes occur and make it harder to hold on to that connection. They go through major ups and downs...but they do eventually get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Lily and Trevin's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well otherwise.

Instalove: No, they've known each other since they were 8 years old.

H rating: 4 stars. Trevin. I liked him. There were definitely times I wanted to throttle him, but I liked him overall.

h rating: 4 stars. Lily. I liked her. I appreciated that she never crossed over that line into doormat status for me. Don't get me wrong -- she was close! But she never did cross it IMO.

Sadness level: Moderate. I cried a few times, but it never turned into an ugly cry.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the storyline.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Not really.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: Yes

Cheating: Not technically

Separation: Yes, many separations.

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had kind of an abrupt ending with their conflict being resolved right at the end. The epilogue was cute though, and I would call it a HEA

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: This is probably Not Safe for my safety gals.

“You and me, we’re meant to be together.”

This was our first experience with Lauren Runow’s stories and we’re certainly keen to try out more. In Gravity we meet Lily Pace and Trevin Allen who become firm friends at eight years old and who live a life of ups and down, successes and failures, missed opportunities. And as the synopsis suggest, it’s certainly not a warm and gooey childhood to lover’s story, indeed it’s not. This is one angsty journey for Lily and Trevin that’s full of heartbreak, loss and bad decisions, and begs the question, can soulmate love fight, survive and conquer?

‘Without each other, we both will float away into darkness, because my life would be nothing without her.’

Trevin Allen lives in a troubled household with an alcoholic cruel father who really was one of the most revolting characters we’ve met. He made our stomach turn and his treatment of Trevin was hard reading, in fact his behaviour was downright bizarre at times.

A friendship with Lily develops when they are both eight, with Lily’s companionship being the reprieve Trevin craves. They share a reckless innocence which is so sweet and develops as the year’s progress into something more than friendship. At thirteen Trevin’s talent and passion for Baseball could be his passport out of his situation, but it is music that is his dream, and apart from Lily, his love.

‘I will try my hardest to be the best man anyone would want to love, especially the girl holding me right now.’

Trevin’s life begins to take a downward spiral thanks to his father in which Lily tries to pull him out and show him his potential, signing him up for an audition with Sony records. Trevin’s life changes, leaving Lily behind as he chases his music dream.

Trevin tries to include Lily into his life but it’s clear the prim and proper Lily is out of her depth with Trevin’s drug taking, rock star companions and cracks in their relationship and friendship develop.

Gravity follows Trevin and Lily from eight to thirty five and it’s quite the journey. We advise you to hang onto your Kindles because you’ll want to throw them a time or two! Both Lily and Trevin change in personality, behaviour throughout the story, fighting to find their identity whilst exploring the complexities of growth and eventual maturity. Life at times is erratic, separation unavoidable, and both have to learn to bend and make allowances for the other, which is easier said than done.

‘He’s been here, with me, every day since I was eight years old, and now he’s gone.’

Despite Lily’s belief and encouragement in Trevin, we did find Lily to be a little judgemental at times, and felt the time jumps didn’t allow for us to actually feel and live their story some of the time. We know Trevin had drug issues throughout his rock and roll lifestyle but we feel as though we didn’t really experience the gritty, raw aspects of this, and so the impact wasn’t as compelling as it would’ve been if we had lay witness to it.

“He’s my gravity I’m pulled toward him, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

The path to true love isn’t always straight and narrow, it’s rocky and full of potholes, and no more so than in the case of Lily and Trevin. Their love tested us, their reasoning frustrated us, some of their decision making infuriated and confused us, but there’s no doubt Lauren Runow’s story held us captive as we hoped with our hearts in knots that love would eventually prevail for these two.

When I first started this book, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the story and characters as much as I did, but it happened and I’m so happy I gave Gravity a chance.

Lauren Runow words draw me in from the start, tugging on my heart-strings with every twists and turns. I'm not sure if it was because I was emotionally drained, but at some point while I was reading, some chapters began to be difficult to get into. The main couple have been through a lot together and I just wanted them to be freaking happy; so I started feeling like the author was dragging the story out.

But that wasn’t enough to stop me from continuing forward with the story. Just as the undeniable pull between the characters, I gravitated toward the end like dust under a vacuum. Despite my issues, I had to keep going. To know how they were going to overcome time and all the shit that was thrown at them was essential for my mental health. Gravity do that to you. It grabs you from page one and don't let you go until your heart explode with happiness.

But before I got to the happiness I had to work through pain... or in my case, anger.

description

I'm no goody-goody, gawd knows I am not, but I had a problem with the drug use. If you want to use it, good for you, but don't encourage other people to do it. No fucking cool. It was one of those hair-pulling moments where I found myself asking, no, yelling at the characters WHY? WTF did you do that? Hoping that one of them climb out of the book and answer my questions.

Yeah, that was me.

Gravity is definitely not your normal, sweet romance of childhood friends to lovers. Gravity is emotional, is angsty, a rollercoaster of love and misery. A heart-wrenching love story that will make you believe that soulmates truly exist. So if emotional readings are your thing, you might want to give this book a try.

"The Gravity we joke about, the undeniable pull, the reason people don't understand it–they've never experienced it."

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I can't say that I loved it. I actually started listening to the audiobook first, and then finished with the ebook. I'm not sure if that colored my opinion of the book itself since the audio left a lot to be desired.

The author warns you right from the start:
Gravity is not your normal, sweet romance of childhood friends to lovers. Spanning over twenty years—it’s raw, it’s real, asking the question if soul mates really exist.

Even with that in mind, I found this book pretty frustrating. There was so much angst and drama and I often wanted to scream at both main characters for being so stupid. I didn't agree with all the decisions our characters made, but the story did hook me right from the start, and I had to know what became of childhood best friends/lovers Lily and Trevin. It was still a good book, but readers need to buckle up for the bumpy ride.

My thoughts on the audiobook:
This audiobook just felt sloppy. I thought both narrators did a fine job (though I enjoyed Jay Lindenwood's performance more), but the sound quality was pretty horrible. Their voices seemed muffled or perhaps too close to the microphone and there was some kind of background noise that was very distracting. I noticed that at least in one chapter (chapter 8), an entire chunk of text is missing at the end. I'm not sure if it accidentally got cut or was added into the book later, but it's definitely not in the audiobook. That chapter still ends in a normal manner and you likely wouldn't even notice anything is wrong, but it was such an emotional chapter/scene and that missing dialogue and interaction was so heartfelt. There also seemed to be some editing mistakes (ie: repetition of words/sentences) and some speed issues. All these things really took away from the enjoyment of this book. Gravity deserves a much better audio version than this.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Make no mistake. I love rock stars. LOL! This book succeeded in making me love the boy Trevin was before he became a rock star... which was icing on the cake. I enjoyed the build of friendship to lovers, he and his Lily-Pad had.

Places gave me that uncomfortable hitch in my chest while I read, making me want to scoop whatever character was on the page up and take care of them at the time...or smack them and tell them to wake the f**k up! LOL! Gravity was a coming of age story; a story of love, trust and that sense of rightness and belonging, that some of us are lucky enough to experience.

It could have been five stars if the hero had not had sex with so many groupies throughout history. And her scene with another woman, after using drugs, was disgusting. The feeling and love between them since childhood was tainted by sex with others.

Lily and Trevin have known each other since they were 8 years old. From that first moment of meeting each other, Lily and Trevin have been there for each other, no matter the distance, Trevin’s fame or drama or heartache. But Trevin has used Lily all up- he now has to prove his love for her and that they are meant to be together. Will these two pull through, will that prove that soul mates and ever lasting love exists?

“My tiny piece of perfection. The portion of my heart that wanders the earth on the outside of my body. She sees me- the raw, unedited version of me… and she still loves me.”

This was a, heart-breaking, deep breathing, eyes watering but beautiful and true love story. I adored this book and Lily and Trevin’s story really took my breath away, I believed it and in them and was desperately hoping and wanting them to end up together and show us soul mates exist no matter the time that’s passed or the obstacles that come in between!

“Without each other, we both will float away into darkness, because my life would be nothing without her. She’ll always be my gravity. Keeping me grounded. Helping me be the man I want to be. The man I know I can be.”

This wasn’t an easy ride and you are definitely not always going to like Trevin – he says stupid things and does stupid things but deep down, throughout the story, I knew he loved Lily and I knew he really wanted to prove himself to her and prove that he is the one for Lily and that they are made for each other. Lily also wasn’t perfect, I think she sometimes didn’t stand up for herself enough or fight back and she sometimes made the wrong choice I think. But she was also beautiful inside and out and I felt her pain and her struggle and the hard decisions she had to make. That the two main characters were beautifully flawed made me connect with them all the more!

“We lock eyes for a moment before I blink and walk away from him, away from here and leaving him standing there outside as tears stream down my face.”

We go on a real journey throughout this love story and it isn’t always an easy read – you will shout at your kindle and cry and want to shake some sense into Trevin and Lily but that’s the beauty of this story. It was painful but true and realistic and I was with them every step of the way! We have drama, laughter, love, passion and the story just flowed so well and kept me reading page after page after page. Give this story a read, you won’t regret it at all!

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

Gravity is written in Lauren Runow's stunning prose that fans have come to love her for. Immersed into the world of Lily and Trevin, Lauren's words allow the reader to really feel as though they are each character through out the years of their friendship. Young Lily is worried about friends and boys, while Trevin just tries to make it through the day without angering his father more. I loved the early ages, I felt like I was back to being in my young teens, experiencing the emotions alongside them. The general theme of the novel, their love story, is filled with angst and struggles that gripped me early on. I felt for the characters, I wanted to react for them, to lash out in anger and hurt as well. At other times, I wanted to shake them for being so ridiculous, but I also related in so many ways as I looked back on my youthful reactions to similar situations.

“He’s my gravity I’m pulled toward him, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

While Gravity started out as an incredibly strong coming-of-age story, I do feel like some of the character development went to a standstill as the years were flipped through quickly. I wanted to correct Lily and Trevin at multiple times and sometimes I felt like maybe I was judging them too harshly based on the one sided glimpse at what was happening during that brief moment of time. The speed at which we go through a handful of years can leave the reader feeling as though things are missed, but the outcome is worth it.

‘I will try my hardest to be the best man anyone would want to love, especially the girl holding me right now.’

Ultimately, I fell in love with Trevin and Lily. Their non-traditional second-chance romance and strong friendship is a truly beautiful contemporary romance story. As the characters face struggles and grow into themselves the reader is treated to an engaging and entertaining story with an HEA.

Lily and Trevin tell the story of a once in a lifetime kind of love. The trials and tribulations that they endure throughout the span of many years. The love they fought to have and the love they fight to keep.

I love reading books that start when the characters are young and I get to watch them grow individually and as a couple. There is a lot of sadness in Gravity. Along with that sadness is the hope that someone can overcome their past and have the happy ending they deserve. There are a lot of ups and downs, one step forward and two steps back moments. In between and even during those times, there is so much love and happiness that you forget about the hurt.

I love Lauren Runow's writing style. This book is just as amazing as her other novels.

Gravity is my first book by Lauren Runrow. I am always slightly hesitant to read a new author, especially in a genre where I am quick finicky. There are very few rock star romances that I am fan of only because I know what I like and don't like in them. Lauren gave me a different side that I wasn't expecting and I actually enjoyed it.

Gravity is so much more than just the rock star ambiance of sex, drugs and music. Yes, it's there but it's more of muted point. It's not a driving force in this book; it's almost viewed expected and accepted. Gravity is more about watching two friends grow - sometimes together and sometimes apart. It's got its sweet moments and it's got its ugly and moments.

Trevin and Lily are two kids who become instant friends at the age of 8. They are there for each other through everything as they grow up. Lily is there when Trev gets his big break and does her best to stay right there with him as his life blows up. Lily is getting herself through college and tries to teach dance as much as she can. And when things are finally falling into place for them, they are finally ready to give way to what has always been there - them together. But not every HEA is without it's drama along the way.

"You'll always be my gravity. You're what I need to stay grounded, no matter where I go, no matter what happens, remember that. Only you."

Lauren really surprised with how this story progressed. I knew at some point a problem had to arise and when it came to fruition, as much as I knew it was going to happen, I was still slightly shocked by it and how everything plays out afterwards . Lauren lays this book out nicely. If flows extremely and I love that it's told from both their POV's. I enjoy how she wrote Trev and Lily's story. It's honest, real and raw.

If you are like me and have enjoy a good YA/NA book, I highly recommend giving this book a go. I will definitely be looking to more of Lauren's other books.

Let me introduce Trevor and Lily... childhood friends at tender age of 8. Becoming best friends thru the years. But when does just being a best friend is enough. Sacrificing isn't the only struggle Trevor and Lily endured. The days that turned into years they overcome loss, grief, heartaches, fears and secrets together. Join their journey together in how they overcome everything and why he saved the "only thing for her" along with his heart!

This was a really cute story that follows the mc's from childhood through to becoming adults. It gave dual pov, which was important because even though they lived next door to one another, their home life was completely different. I love a good, hot-rocker romance - even though the sex and drugs and alcohol with others makes me cringe sometimes ;)

I liked it... Lily and Trevin have been through a life together first as friends but they were never simply only friends... They were always more... They're trying to balance their lives and their dreams and at the same time they're trying to admit their feelings for each other... A lovely rock star journey...

I wasn't sure on how to rate this one. Part of me absolutely loved watching Lilly and Trevin's relationship grow from best friends at 8 years old into this roller-coaster ride of love and hate.

I hated how they both at different times skirted around their feelings and treated each other like crap. And I get that for the most part they are really young and for all that they had been through together and on their own their actions were right in line with their age. It was just frustrating to see them act like that.

I loved how no matter what they were both there for each other in some fashion even when they were angry and hurt by the other, their bond to one another was still there and strong.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this book and I'm excited to see if this book will have a part two or if maybe some of the secondary characters will get their own story as well.

Sometimes, when we love someone, we lose a part of ourselves in order to see them thrive. It is the way they make us whole again that defines true love. This is what I learned from reading Gravity by Lauren Runow.

Whether you love Insta-attraction or slow-burn romances, this is the book for you as Lauren Runow manages to create both in one epic tale (something that is incredibly difficult for an author to accomplish!) When Trevin and Lily meet as children, the reader is taken on a journey. The lyrics woven through out are incredible and the storyline keeps your attention from the very beginning. You'll laugh, cry, question their choices and, when the sexual tension is turned on, you'll ignite!

A story you'll love.

You know for me while starting off on this story all I kept thinking was, it's okay to be a downer and disappointing cause reading so many reviews left me in doubt.

Buuut, honestly it's not what it is. Yes, there were parts that could have been but the story flowed and it was well written, didn't take away that uniqueness that most rocker stories tend to be but the Lauren Runow's writing style will have you grasped and gravitating which she didn't shove anything in your face nasty angst read but a story about abuse about friendship about love, about trust and of growing and letting go that I actually enjoyed and love Trevin and Lily's romance journey.

Wow, what an angsty ride! Lauren Runow's writing is absolute perfection and she had me reaching for a paper bag to breath into so many times while I was reading Gravity. God, I loved Trevin. There were times I wanted to throat punch him, but overall he was just so broken that I couldn't help but fall in love with him. Lily was so good to him, always there for him, just as a best friend should be. I don't know how I would've put up with him in certain situations, but sometimes when you love someone, you overlook their flaws and give them your whole heart. There's no looking back.

I can't wait to dive into more of Lauren Runow's books, as this was my first read by her. What a wild ride!

“Without each other, we will both float away into darkness, because my life would be nothing without her. She’ll always be my gravity. Keeping me grounded. Helping me be the man I want to be. The man I know I can be. The simple man!
Gravity by Lauren Runow is a friends to lovers romance with a bit of a twist. It isn’t hearts and flowers- it’s gritty, heartbreaking, intense and quite hard to read in places. But it was also sexy, heart-warming, passionate and memorable. It’s about a soul connection that spans over 25 years.
Lily Pace (Lily-Pad) and Trevin Allen (Trev) meet when they are just eight years old; they become firm friends and are pretty much inseparable. Lily is a sweet, shy, wholesome ‘girl-next-door’, who’s passionate about dance, and Trevin.
Trevin has a cruel, abusive, alcoholic father who causes pain and misery for Trevin and his mother. Lily is his rock, light in the darkness, his comfort and respite from all the turmoil. His passions are baseball, music and Lily.
As the years progress, their friendship only grows stronger- they develop feelings for the other but keep them hidden for fear of ruining their friendship. Then one night changed all that.
Getting a massive break, Trevin sets off to follow his dream of becoming a rock star. Lily had a hand in him getting the opportunity, because she believes in him and wants him to be happy. She is so proud of him but also feels a little adrift without him there.
“He’s been here, with me, every day since I was eight years old, and now he’s gone.”
He starts living the rock star lifestyle, enjoying his newfound fame- behaving like the typical twenty-something rocker, he begins to change and becomes more distant. Cracks develop in their relationship.
Will his rock star career be everything he dreamed it would be? What happens when Lily finally grows tired of living in his shadow? Will he realise what she means to him, before it’s too late?
I have loved all of Ms. Runow’s book so far and this one is no exception. But what a ride it was. It was like being on an emotional rollercoaster- it was so gritty, so sad, I was seething with rage at points, and then sobbing like a baby, I laughed out loud, and next moment was yelling at my kindle. It took quite a toll on my heart.
Ms. Runow writes beautifully- quite intense at times but she always produces a well thought out, engaging, passionate, witty and entertaining story. She is able to write from the heart, about believable (although somewhat tragic in this story) situations and events and then perfectly captures the emotional responses of her characters. The characters learn, grow and develop as the story progresses, this makes them believable- not just some fictional characters, they become real and her readers connect with that.
The story has a great pace and flows well- it is told from a duel POV, is a standalone and has a HEA.
This is a turbulent, raw journey- a coming of age story and a story of self-discovery that is woven through a story of friendship, love and sacrifice. Although hard to read at times, it was so worth the effort!

Thank you, Ms. Runow!

I could really go round and round
in my head, and nit pick all the
reasons I should not like this book,
but I won't. Simply for the fact
that I could not put this book
down.

Trevin and Lily captivated me from the
start, and I just wanted them to
get the happy ending they deserved.
This book spans their lives from
about 8 yrs old to about 24, and
then we get an awesome epilogue!

The question is -Is there cheating?
Technically no. Trevin is a rising
rock star, and have no doubt he
leads a rock star life. All the
while he is best friends with Lily.
At times I did have a problem with
it because I was just so frustrated
with the idea that if they really
loved each other they would
be together. I struggled with
this throughout the book.
When I understood that this is
also what Lily wanted I just let
that idea go. I also had a really
big WTF moment at around 80%
or so where I was ALMOST about
to DNF. But I couldn't...that's
how much this book pulled me
in. I'm very glad I didn't because
I got to see them grow and
get there HEA.

I am giving this a 4 because of
the sweet relationship and
how they were always there
for each other through the years.
And the fact I didn't want to put
it down. IF I were to be nit
picky about whether it was
cheating or not...this book
would get a 2.

Decide for yourself, but I will
read more by this author.

5++++ Lily Pads

My first book of 2017 and Lauren Runow killed it with this friends-to-lovers romance.

I've read so many books that have left me in a emotional mess after, but this one damn near gave me whiplash with my mood swings

One minute I'd be so damn happy, then Lauren would rip my heart out of my chest, but she wouldn't stop there, no she'd also stomp it in to the ground. A couple chapters later, I just wanted to give Trevin a huge hug. But a few pages after that, I wanted to throat punch him.

That's how you know it's a great book, when you threaten violence against fictional characters. LOL!

But the thing I absolutely adored most about this book was the fact that Lily wouldn't settle for things. She wouldn't just sit there and be treated like less than she deserved. She wasn't perfect. She made mistakes, but she corrected them and refused to change her morals even if it meant losing the love of her life. She was simply amazing!

This is by far the best of Lauren Runow's work to date. If you love angst this is the book for you!

It's a New Year and this is a new author for me and all I can say why have I not read her before..
This is a hard review for me to write, I want to do it justice but I don't want to give the story away.
Trevin went through so much growing up but having Lily by his side made it all ok she was his rock and she pushed him to fulfil his dream of becoming a musician but the last night before he went on tour changed everything, emotions run high and lines are crossed can they ever get back what they lost that night......
This is a beautifully written book its heartbreaking, it's intense, it's sexy, it's emotional, I laughed and I cried and at times I wanted to bang their heads together, I was with them in every part of this book and I actually read it in one sitting because I needed to know will they only ever be friends or is their love strong enough to take them to the finishing line together forever.......
All I'm going to say is this is a must read.
