Some fresh and intriguing rules combined with an interesting setting. The setting is the far future after humanity explored the galaxy, created a successor race, then became extinct. Their successors created many types of new genetic variants, eventually leading to conflict with one of their children races, leading to their own extinction. Afterwards, the remaining races have to try to pick up the pieces and survive together, because none are quite able to survive alone.
One of the nice things about the races is that none are obvious analogies for classic fantasy races, so they feel more novel and fresh than more elves/orcs in space which have been done many times. There's a pretty thorough coverage of the races and their cultures to read through.
The rules are pretty basic and straightforward most of the time, but try to give room for customization for each character, particularly with one part I really enjoy, the 'free time points', which you earn as you play, and then can spend on things your character does, such as customizing weapons, haggling with merchants, or doing research. It has rules for starship creation and combat as well, and seems pretty thorough. It seems like a system which is meant to be easy to learn, but has enough meat on it to let you make your character's skills match their persona and priorities.
