தன் வாழ்நாளில் காந்தி, காமராசர் தொடங்கி ஜெயகாந்தன், கல்கி, சதாசிவம், வாசன், பாலசுப்ரமணியம் போன்றோர் உடன் தனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட அனுபவங்களையும்., கல்கி மற்றும் ஆனந்த விகடனில் பணியாற்றியது முதல் தான் தொடங்கிய சிற்றிதழ் மூலமாக எழுத்துலகில் தான் கற்றவைகளையும், பெற்றவைகளையும் ஒளிவு மறைவின்றி பகிர்கிரார்.

சாவியின் வாழ்நாளில் பெறும் பாகத்தை எழுத்துலகமே சூழ்ந்துள்ளது.

தன் வாழ்வில் தனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட இன்னபிற அனுபவங்களையும் அவை தன் வாழ்க்கையில் ஏற்படுத்திய தாக்கங்களையும் கூட பகிர்வதால் இதை வாழ்வனுபவ கட்டுரை என்பதை விட சாவியின் சின்ன சுயசரிதம் எனலாம். நகைச்சுவையுடன் கூடிய எழுத்து நடை வாசிப்பதில் விறுவிறுப்பு ஏற்றுகிறது.

சாவி பல்வேறு காலகட்டங்களில் தனது வாழ்க்கையின் அனுபவங்களை அவருக்கே உரித்தான ஹாஷ்யம் கலந்த அழகான நடையில் நமக்கு படம் பிடித்து காட்டி இருக்கிறார். அவரின் சிறுவயது நண்பர்கள் தொடங்கி அன்றைய எழுத்துலகத்தில் இடம் பிடித்த ஜாம்பவான்கள் கல்கி, வாசன், துமிலன், ஜெயகாந்தன் மற்றும் அரசியல் தலைவர்கள் காமராஜர், ராஜாஜி, ஈ.வே.ரா, அண்ணாத்துரை, கருணாநிதி, நடிகர்கள் எம்.ஜீ.ஆர்., எஸ்.வி.சகஷ்ரநாமம், என்.எஸ்.கே. அவர்களுடனும் ஜி.டி.நாயுடு, சுவாமி சங்கராச்சாரியார் போன்ற பெரியோர்களுடனும் தனக்குண்டான தோழமை, அவர்களுடன் தான் சேர்ந்து பெற்ற அனுபவங்களையும் அவரது எழுத்துலக வாழ்க்கையையும் மிகவும் நேர்த்தியாக தொகுத்தளித்திருக்கும் விதம் படிப்பவர் மனங்களை அன்றைய நாட்களுக்கு நிச்சயம் எடுத்து செல்லும். மனம் நிறைந்த வாசிப்பு!!!

The book is a collection of articles of Savi over his time as a writer. Each article is typically devoted to an event in his life. The articles are about meeting with the greats of his time, like Kalki Krishnamurthy, EVR, Kamraj his fights with various writers and editors and his political views.

Some of the articles are also about the events from his childhood. His running away from house with the money his father gave him for school fees and ending up hungry in a pathashala where he expected his cousin to be studying, his sneaking into a house as a helper to the cooking and enjoying the "saddhi" served to the brahmins (by virtue of him having a tuft of hair which he hated having) are another set of articles.

A decent read for someone to get a very high level view of the life and political scenario of the times of Savi.

Very funny and an interesting read written by one of the famous writers in Tamil. Though it describes the times ranging from 2 to 7 or 8 decades ago, it never seems old, the experiences are still brought live in front of the reader's eyes. His experiences with stalwarts like Kalki, S.S.Vasan, AVM, big leaders like Kamaraj, MGR, great names like G.D. Naidu are very interesting to learn about the characteristics of those people.

Nostalgic experience

அருமையான கதைகள். வில்லிவாக்கம் சென்னை இல்லை என்றும், ஒரணா தம்படிக்கு மதிப்பு இருந்தும் ஆச்சரியம்.

Saavi's masterpiece. Excellent old times read after a very long time for me. Must read for those who love past generation Tamil writings.

I’m not sure how many would have heard his name. Few would have heard from Kamal’s or Crazy Mohan’s interview but when it comes to the Tamil Journalism the name “Savi” has made a mark. If we have Cho for Satire we have Savi for Comedy. I haven’t had a chance to read the weekly run by him but this book really is an outset to understand the person in his professional and personal life.

Writer/Journalist Savi has worked with legends of Tamil Journalism industry like S.S. Vasan of Vikatan, Kalki. Krishnamoorthy of Kalki and he has inspired many writers. Writer Savi not only encouraged new writers but also played a bigger role in re-shaping Tamil weekly and dailies.

It is not easy for a legend like him to put so many things out in public. Being an important personality many would think a lot before talking about the mistakes they did while they were as kids or teens but Savi didn’t care two hoots. There were incidents where he mentioned about feeling sexually aroused by a girl from “Kuravar” caste which isn’t normal in Tamil scene owing to the High and low, class conflict.

This book is the collection of various incidents took place in his life at various points and each event is an episode. The reason, I was able to finish this book in a very short span was that of the easy language and the way he writes comedy. The man has a knack to make you laugh and I’m really looking forward to reading his novel “Washingtonil Thirumanam” which was published in Ananda Vikatan for 11 weeks without revealing the Author’s name until the last episode. Do grab this book for more interesting facts about then Political conditions, Journalism and its climate.

This marks the third non-fiction book of this year which really hooked me. I sort of started developing more love for non-fiction books these days. I strongly urge everyone who loves to know about Writer Savi and his life, the mistakes and learnings from his life. He not only learnt from them but he teaches us through this book.

சுஜாதாவின் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கத்து தேவதைகளுக்கும் இவரின் நூலுக்கும் வித்தியாசம் பல, குறிப்பாக நகைச்சுவை. இதில் இவரின் அனுபவங்கள் கலைத்துப் போட்டதை போல குழந்தைப் பருவம் வாலிப பருவம் என்று மாறி மாறி வருகிறது. "நாகரிகமான வராண்டாவுடன் கூடிய" - வராண்டாவுக்கும் நாகரிகத்திற்கும் என்ன சம்பந்தம்? "குடுமியை எடுத்துவிட்டு ... கிராப்பு வைத்துக் கொண்டு நாகரிமாக வாழ விரும்பினேன்" - குடுமி வைத்தவர்கள் நாகரிமாகமற்றவர்கள்? "இராமாயணம் படிக்கிற போது குடுமியோடு படித்தால் தான் பொருத்தமாக இருக்கும்" - அப்படியென்றால் நாகரிமாகமற்றவர்கள் தான் இராமாயணம் படிப்பார்களா? அப்ப இராமனுக்கு கொடிப்பிடிப்பவர்களும் நாகரிமாகமற்றவர்கள் தானே?

தமிழினத் துரோகி கருணாநிதியை நீடுடி வாழ வாழ்த்தும் இவரும் தமிழினத் துரோகி தான்.
