This book helped my better understand the role of the Holy Ghost in my life. It taught me how invaluable the Gift of the Holy Ghost is when I am worthy of His companionship. after reading this book the Holy Ghost became more of a real person/friend/teacher that I could relate to, rather than an abstract concept/being in the Godhead.
This book stars slow and ends the same way, but the middle had many a gem and I am really glad I finished it. Felt like they presented many insights and things I had not previously considered. It was worth reading. pg 16:The Holy Ghost has no other effect than pure intelligence. I love that the Holy Ghost can only impart pure truth to you. Whether it's something spiritual or how to help one of your kids in math. I just love the idea that he can help you in a number of ways, in all ways.
17 When you feel pure intelligence flowing into you, it may give you sudden strokes of ideas, so that by noticing it, you may find it fulfilled the same day or soon. thus by learning the Spirit of God and understanding it, you my grow... until you become perfect in Crhist Jesus. I've actually had this happen and it is a beautiful thing. It reminds me of "Madeline" where Miss Clavel wakes up and knows "that something is not right" you have a small thought or feeling. And if you make yourself available to listen and act it has the power to change everything. It's a very subtle thing too, a hint or an idea in the back of your mind. I think your life has to be quiet enough to listen and to hear those quiet thoughts or you will either miss them or be to busy to act on them.
44Thus it is that some are born with a special capacity to know and recognize truth. We refer to them as having believing blood. Love the concept that some have that power just there inside them and will not need to seek for some things. Hope I have that. 46: Advice to missionaries. 54 This was also cool: None of us have all the spiritual gifts so we meet together in church that "all may profit thereby", so those who miss church actually hurt the rest of us. 97 He quotes Cyrian: I saw certainity succeed doubt. 97: it is not something that affects simply his judgment, but it affects his inner man; it affects the spirit that dwells within him, it is a part of God imparted unto man. 156 Why God cannot change 49 it stands to reason that women are, by their very nature, more susceptible to the spirit of revleation than are men. 48: says the reason the prophet will not go astray is because we have the power of discernment. We would be informed immeadiately that something was not right. I had never thought of it that way before.
