Jennifer Crusie is the New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher's Weekly bestselling author of twenty-three novels, one book of literary criticism, miscellaneous articles, essays, novellas, and short stories, and the editor of three essay anthologies.

She was born in Wapakoneta, a small town in Ohio, and then went on to live in a succession of other small towns in Ohio and New Jersey until her last move to a small town in Pennsylvania.  This may have had an impact on her work.

She has a BS in Art Education, an MA in literature, an MFA in fiction, and was ABD on her PhD when she started reading romances as part of her research into the differences between the ways men and women tell stories.  Writing a romance sounded like more fun than writing a dissertation, so she switched to fiction and never looked back.  Her collaborations with Bob Mayer have pretty much proved everything she was going to say in her dissertation anyway, so really, no need to finish that.

Nope nopity nope! This one just did not make me crazy for it!

When reading the blurb (which incidentally I never do and did it for this first time here), I thought it was interesting. Also after having heard about Jennifer Crusie and her books from a friend, I thought I should simply go ahead and read this one, especially as it was loved by a good friend of mine. However, despite the book starting off well, it was all downhill after that, without any point of redemption!

So let's get on with what I didn't like -

1. Characters - They were awful, especially the men in this book! God there were times when I wanted to really kill all of them for being so overbearing, insensitive and obnoxious. To top it, when I thought that the women were getting ballsy and good, they went wimpy.. okay that may be an exaggeration - not totally wimpy but in the end, it was a case of all's well that ends well, which did not go very well with me! Quinn - the female character was the only saving grace and even she couldn't really make me like this story, for there were times when I wanted to hit her for being dense as well. As for Bill and Nick - the two main male leads, the less I say, the better!

2. Plot - The plot started off really nice. A couple in a comfortable relationship, where one suddenly realises that the relationship is simply awry and needs to be changed. Okay I can understand that to a certain extent, especially if the guy in the relationship is Bill, who is obnoxious, irritating and really an idiot! However, this is where it all went downhill... what could have been an amusing tale became one of violence and obsession and total dense human behaviour, which made it really tiresome to read.

3. Minor/side characters - these were the ones who provided the much needed comic relief and fun in the book. So I say Go Side Characters! Whether it is the married man hunting vamp Barbara or the crazy mother Meggy and her friend Edie or even the obnoxious principal Robert; they were hilarious, giving me some moments of fun in this otherwise tiresome tale.

Despite all these negatives, I have to admit that this was an easy book to read. In fact, I quite liked the writing style, which was fast paced and funny in parts, which made it a quick and easy read. I guess this is why I am giving it a 2 star rating instead of a 1 star.

Finally, while I did not like this one, I would like to say that I am not completely writing off this author as I think that she writes well. It's just that this story had too many negatives for me to like.

I won't be recommending this but you are welcome to try it, if you are looking for a light read and are not as nitpicky as me.

What the ---- was that? The blurb and the cover may be the most misleading ever.! Reading this book is like going to watch and ending up with . It's the Rachel Dolezal of books, it identifies with Rom-Com.

Quinn has been living with Bill the Dudley Do-Right, Viking looking, successful football coach. She finds a dog she wants to keep, he say no. She moves out. Nick (her ex BIL, best friend and secret crush) helps her. From here on out it continues in the cutesy light-hearted contemporary rom-com fashion and tosses in a big wallop of psychological creepy drama. Bill goes off the rails and

If this had been presented as more of a psychological drama and less romantic comedy, my rating would have been higher. For what it represents itself as it failed completely as Bill's actions were all too realistic, creepy and sad. The guy was sick, and I felt sorry for him.

Not to mention, after all her changes she ended up with stupid Nick.

This book is like a well worn jumper that you pull on to keep you warm as the early winter chill starts to bite. I love it. I have it sitting permanently in my bedside cupboard, ready to drag out if I need a little pick me up. Its premise is simple but smart. Quinn, thirty-six, leaves her boyfriend, Bill and starts to lead a new, more spontaneous life which includes among other things, a (very) hot affair with Nick, her used to be brother-in-law now best friend. The only problem is that Bill still wants her and seems to be doing all sorts of things to get her back, like booby traping her new house. So here we have a nice little romantic comedy about two people who always, kinda liked each other, who know each other so well that when they start to have sex with each other, its fireworks all round. And there's that tinge of danger with Bill on the fringes. But what makes this one of my favourites, is Jennifer Crusie's writing. She knows how to write characters that are endearing, with all their foils and triumps. She could be writing about you. No flashy, glamourous jobs or jet setting around the world that the characters in many modern romance novels seem to do (Quinn is a teacher and Nick a mechanic). But the very best thing about this book, the thing that keeps it in that bedside cupboard, is the dialogue. Its witty, its sweet and where it needs to be, its very, very hot. If you like reading the odd romance but want something funny and well written, then you have to read this.

**Audiobook Review**

This one is so difficult for me to review! It did, in fact, make me a little crazy while listening to it. I've read/listened to a lot of Crusie lately, and I don't think that this is one that will stick in my mind for any time - at least I hope not.

What I liked:
-Scant little. But let's be clear, I did not HATE this book. It was Crusie's usual humor and pacing. If you like her stuff, then don't skip this one on my account.
-The love story was there, the awkward circumstances were there, the dog was there - typical in that sense.
-Now that I'm writing the review, I have to say kudos to Crusie because if she meant for me to have this particular "crazed" reaction, then she definitely did a great job and she got her wish.

What I could have done without:
-The indecisive nature of nearly all of the female characters. They would start a conversation very decisive and positive about a new direction, and then in the space of a sentence return to indecision, confusion, and complacency. Since that is personally frustrating, I spent most of the book feeling anxious and angry at them.
-The overbearing and condescending men. More than one man, including the MC at times, was entirely patronizing towards the female MC, Quinn, her best friend, Darla, and other female characters in the book. That's not just a frustrating thing for women to read, but also for men who take offense at the portrayal of overbearing, dictatorial male characters. More than once I really wanted to pull my hair out.
-

What I wanted more of:
-I wanted more strength from the main character. I know that her responses lent action and development to the story, but if she had been less accepting of certain behavior then she could have avoided some of the scrapes she found herself in. But maybe that's why my real life is so boring! ☺

So, now it's hard to "star" this review because it was a good book in that it was well written and it elicited a strong reaction from me. But the negative reaction is coloring any positive feelings I have for it overall. I'll give it 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 for the benefit of any Crusie-lovers who are on the fence about checking this one out.

This story was . . . problematic. Nick was too much of a loner jerkwad to be attractive as love interest and Quinn a bit too stubbornly stupid to be sympathetic as main character. The secondary characters elevated the story somewhat as they were more sympathetic and attractive than either Nick or Quinn—saving this from two-star territory, but only just.

This was one of Crusie shorter books, and honestly it was funny but it was also really disturbing at the same time. Quinn is the main character and she is tired of being the sister who is always calm and collected and nice to everyone. She always ignores what she really wants because she thinks people need to see her as being the responsible one in her family. When she decides to adopt a dog from the pound and takes it back home her live in boyfriend Bill tells her she can't have the dog. Quinn digs in her heels and refuses to give the dog back. So Bill takes it upon himself to return the dog. When Quinn finds out she realizes Bill is not the right man for her and she moves out. This is where things begin to get a little disturbing. Bill begins stalking Quinn and doing ridiculous things to get her back. It gets progressively intense until I was shocked at the lengths he went to.

On the other side of this story, the non psychotic man in Quinn's life is Nick. He's been her best friend for a number of years, and she thinks he is just the right man to have a fling with. But he doesn't want to ruin their relationship so he tries his best to stay away. I can say that that plan did not work.

There were a few side plots that were funny, but I just couldn't give this 5 stars when I was really upset with the main storyline with Bill. It wasn't funny, and i don't particularly like that she tried to make it be something lighthearted. If not for the Bill aspect, I would have given it the full 5.

1.5 stars

I usually affiliate Crusie with silly yet fun contemporary trashy romance novels, where I quite like the characters and like reading what they go through before the usual conclusion. While this one started off like one, it quickly devolved into something that wasn't really fun to read.

Everyone's angry and short-tempered, which is annoying in itself, but then there's the ladies of the books (with the exception of Edie) whom are just so unreasonable and rather high maintenance. I felt sorry for the guys, though a couple times they did need a smack to the back of their head. At least Nick came around relatively quickly. Definitely felt sorry for Bill, even though got all creepy.

Though one thing I don't get is why the ladies had to make it so difficult for the guys to come back. It's like, well they did me "wrong" (highly subjective) and now they need to pay to come back. Huh.

Maybe it's just me, but so what? They realised what they did wrong, done deal. Get over yourselves.

What a fun and crazy, twisted book. I'm sure Quinn wasn't expecting all the craziness when she decided that she needed a change in her life because her current one wasn't working out. What I can see is how a good person can't see things until a little dog opens doors but also the people around you make you believe that you have the best life when they don't really see what's going on. I enjoyed this crazy book.

It feels like an outdated brand of feminism: women want more than their relationship/marriage and become unhinged; men are portrayed as clueless because they are content. All of this is somehow ok because it is not as bad as having a psycho stalker.

Upon yet another reread of this book, there are definitely some problematic points I can see now, but for whatever reason, be it nostalgia or the cute dog, I still genuinely enjoy it.

First review
It had been a while since I read this book, and I couldn't really remember why. I bought it in the first place for the same reason I look at other chick lit books - there's a dog in it. Other than that, there's no other reason to like it until you read it. It certainly wouldn't pass the Bechdel test, but to be fair, none of the men talk about anything but women, either. And the premise is pretty tired. A woman is in a rut, and she decides to make some changes. Madness ensues.

It is the execution that sets this book apart. It has a pure examination of relationships between men and women, about marriage, about what keeps a relationship fresh, about the subtleties in the way someone treats you that makes it a bad or good relationship, or simply one that needs work. As per usual, the protagonist's changes send waves through her circle of friends and family, but in this case, it shows how little changes multiply, how some changes seem appealing, but wind up messing up a good thing, while others make massive improvements, but how any change is bound to bring a whole host of emotions and experiences both good and bad.

The misunderstandings are, unlike some chick lit, not brought about by contrivances, but by the differences in ways men and women, and these characters in particular, think. It also provides an excellent example of how madness spirals.

And as for the dog, there is less and less of her as the book goes on, but she's still pretty darn adorable throughout and plays a fairly significant role in the climax.

One thing about Crusie's novels: there's always something going on beneath the surface.

You might think this is just a story about a girl having to chose between two men. Her rock-solid live-in boyfriend, thoughtfulness incarnated, and boring as boiled eggs on the one side, and on the other, somebody she's always had a crush on. He was once married to her sister for a few disasterous weeks. The sister has moved on and is happily settled, but Quin still can't get past Nick. Who is something of a kinda-bad boy. He's a mechanic, a little rough around the edges, and one of her very best friends.

One day the live-in boyfriend does something that pushes Quin over the edge, and she moves out. Thus begins the I-want-you-back dance, while all Quin's attention is on Nick.

Taken like this, at face value, you'd probably laugh a lot reading this. But in fact this is a story about the mundane nature of spousal/partner abuse. How silly it seems when it starts (he's really crazy about you, just let him back in the house to talk), to stalking and worse. Quinn buys a house, and the ex loses what's left of his marbles. And the police don't believe her. Oh, no. Not the coach. He's such a Good Coach. He just Loves you So Much.

So the first time you read this, you'll laugh. If you read it again for the deeper story, you might well cry.

And also, there is some fantastic dialog in this novel. Some of the things Nick says to Quinn -- in one particular scene on the high school stage after everybody else has gone home -- gave me goosebumps.

I am a huge Jennifer Cruise fan. I love her humor and her characters. I love that certain elements are usually present -- dog(s), a cute older house, heroine often a teacher. Crazy for You was a good book that had all of these elements. The heroine, Quinn McKenzie, was a high school art teacher that was involved with the coach. Adopting an abandoned dog causes Quinn to reevaluate her life and split up with Bill, the coach. Thus began a series of events that were funny, poignant, and disturbing.

Some of the things in this book really pushed the limits of believability for me. I usually love Crusie's heroes. This one, Nick, was fine, but not a wonderful as others. I listened to the audiobook and was not wild about the narrator. She was fine on the women's voices, but she made Nick sound a little weird (not like I would have imagined him). Overall, a really good book, but not as strong as Bet Me or even Getting Rid of Bradley.

This light and funny romantic comedy is about a beloved and successful high school coach's descent into madness and hurting little puppies. Sigh. Jennifer Crusies' great writing skills are very much here: It kept me turning the pages although I had to start skipping a bit because it did get repetitive towards the end. I felt that there was really only enough material for a category romance, but I think she had to stretch it out because the serious nature of the content didn't fit the usual template of a category. The coach's character and that of his cohort, the principal of the school, was chilling. They were absolutely hateful. And the puppy was ok at the end. ***2 1/2 stars***.

Kind of nice. Ok. I couldn't get into the characters that much.

It was about a school teacher, Quinn, her family and friends. It was about relationships that weren't going well, some were breaking up. Some got back together later. Nothing really excited me. Even after seeing her end up with Nick, which was a happy ending, I felt as if too many details were missing. The story wasn't as fulfilling as I would have liked.

The story of Quinn, a woman fed up with the bland life she'd been living, who decides it's time for some changes.

It starts with a dog that she rescues and wants to keep, which leads to her breaking up with her boyfriend who'd been railroading over her while she let him, and the changes have a ripple effect on her closest friends and family.

Free from the constraints she'd put on herself for years, she realizes she has the hots for Nick, her best friend who was married to her sister once upon a time. Nick, who also has had the hots for her for years, does not want to jeopardise their friendship and resists her advances, but soon enough they succumb to the attraction between them.

Unfortunately, they've got issues to sort out, one among them .

All's well that ends well in the end, with , while Quinn and Nick are finally happy together.

Light and fluffy, with a bit of unexpected creep factor.

Great way to spend a six hour drive home from Ottawa. This started out fluffy and funny and ended up in some dark places. But being Jennifer Crusie it had a happy ending. Sadly for a lot of women with stalkers that isn’t the case.

Well, having read Getting Rid of Bradley, I was disappointed in this novel from Crusie. I believe this one came out first but no matter, it is almost the exact same plot. Boring girl leaves boring guy. She loves dog(s) and needs a change by way of a haircut. Meets a dark, rebel-type bad boy with a heart of gold who eventually falls in love with said character despite being a bachelor-till-I-die type. He saves her from mysteries threats from ex boyfriend. She has a close call with death/abuse. All of a sudden she is conviently left alone due to her "independent streak" and is attacked by said ex boyfriend. New boyfriend shows up just as she saves her self and attacks ex. Other than the different location and sub-characters, I thought I was reading the same book! Plus the sub-characters are not as fully developed as they should be - her mother is only in the book to prove a point then you don't hear from her again. The father leaves his daughter in the house all alone after being so protective the day before when she was attacked so he can date the town slut even though he knows he'll be moving back with the mother in a day. Just not a great book.

Crusie is one of my favorite authors, so I always enjoy re-reading her books. This is a great one for alphabet challenges on character names as you have a female Q - Quinn and a male Z - Nick Ziegler. Quinn decides to get out of her rut and go after what she wants for a change.

What I enjoyed:
* The characters. Crusie always writes interesting characters.
* Katie, the dog.
* There are four romantic stories taking place and all are interesting.

What could have been better:
* Bill was unrealistic.
* Darla was annoying.

This could have been a great book if Bill was not insane and if Quinn and Nick had a better friendship. I'll start with Bill. It was completely melodramatic and too insane to read when Bill became... insane. Yes, he starts off being annoying, planning out Quinn's life with him, but he becomes progressively insufferable. It might have helped jumpstart Quinn and Nick's relationship, but it was definitely detracting. At least to me. Quinn and Nick were supposed to be best friends. How exactly does that happen when Nick tries to ignore her? There was not enough development in that region and it makes it hard to understand why Nick was afraid to get involved.
