Millican Dalton, 1867-1947, pioneering rock climber, professional camper, mountain guide. Essential reading for all those interested in the history of Borrowdale, Epping Forest and the Chiltern Hills.
Although this short book is more a list of happenings, these fragments of Millican Dalton's adventures give insight to an original life. An eccentric English gentleman choosing adventure and romance over a nine to five existence in a city.
He was a man well before his time. Who innovated and yet wasted nothing. Who embraced simplicity and yet understood the complexities of natures workings.
This book was a gift from @HomeOfMilican while I was visiting the Lake District. While reading it in a log cabin, heated by a wood burning stove, surrounded by nature, I certainly felt a connection.
We can still if lucky visit the wilds of nature, we could even live near it if. But few though have it in there soul to live a life like his.
A small book, and a quick read. Recorded fragments of Millican Dalton's adventures give some insight to a unique eccentric Englishman. He chose adventure over a 9-to-5 existence in a city. In some ways he was a man before his time. He innovated and wasted nothing. He lived simply and yet understood the complexities of nature's ways. If you have any affinity for these ideals I suspect reading the book could well inspire you.
