About the author

Jessica Zafra (born 1965) is a fiction writer, columnist, editor, publisher and former television and radio show host. She is known for her sharp and witty writing style. Her most popular books are the Twisted series, a collection of her essays as a columnist for newspaper Today (now Manila Standard Today), as well as from her time as editor and publisher of the magazine Flip. She currently writes a weekly column for The Philippine Star which is called, Emotional Weather Report. She resides in Metro Manila, Philippines, where she is working on her first novel. She also managed the Eraserheads during the 90's.

Her work often are about current events (both Philippine and international), tennis, movies, music, cats, books, technology and her personal life. Her work has been the subject of academic study. The main ingredient to her work is often fun cynicism and irony.

a word to all those who might want to read this book.

DO NOT READ IN ONE SITTING.

It's so effective that her negative aura can be contagious. I suggest read two-three stories otherwise you'll be whining and crappy for the rest of the day.

The '90s have come and gone, but this decade is still my favorite.

Music was awesome... Grunge was born, MTV had more credibility and rock was at the top of the industry while rap had more meaning and creativity than today's bleep.

TV was awesome... The Simpsons, Beavies and Butthead; Reality TV was actually funny rather than annoying and pretentious and TV series were clever and funny.

And then there was Jessica Zafra and her quest for world domination.....

If all young females just look up to her instead of those self-absorbed females you now see on TV. I can just imagine how a better place this world would be. Too bad stupidity seem to be contagious these days.

Jessica Zafra may have failed in her quest for world domination but her books bring me back to a time where life was far less complicated and so much more awesome.

The author's really funny. I find the last part boring though, for I sometimes don't know what she is talking about given that the columns were written before I was born. By the way, I got to buy this one in bargain. Lucky for me 'cuz I was really planning to buy Zafra's books be they sale or not. If you want to borrow it, just give me a ring. :)

Finally. I've found a strong lady who has good taste in music, is in love with (and loved by) Mel Gibson, and is simply the kind of genius who can make a neurotic, manic-depressive metropolitan life sound funny. Cheers.
