(Fiction - British Humour/Satire/Suspense)

How far would you to go get a good story?
Well-known Russian Supermodel, Oksana Volkov, scratched and clawed her way to the top of London's most notable fashion runways. Highly sought-after and ruthless, the Russian diva is under no illusion that her career is threatened by far younger models emerging onto the scene.
Armed with a brash disposition and a bitter resolve to end her career on a strong note, Oksana readies herself to face the crowds of the hottest fashion event in London - The Synapse/Vladychestvo Fashion Show - and kill the runway one last time.
For Joy Attwood this new assignment is so much more than simply raising the stakes, it is critical to her success. Despite feeling responsible for the events on the West End Stage, Joy knows without a doubt that unless she can reign in her personal flaws, everything she has worked for will be gone in the blink of an eye. But when a questionable request from one of the fashion industry's most famous players forces her to test the boundaries of her own morality, Joy finds herself walking a very thin line; the most dangerous line she has yet to cross in the name of journalism.
With all eyes watching the splendour of the fashion world, Joy discovers that some things are not always what they seem. All runway lights cast shadows. Just how far will she go to discover the truth beyond the curtain? Can Joy survive the bright lights of the runway stage? Will the world's most perfect model show everyone just how dark her true colours are?

This is the book in the series where things really start to get crazy, not that they were ever tame to begin with. Sure it starts out how any story about a reporter following a model, but then Mackay puts his own touch of madness into it and suddenly you have anything but an ordinary day-in-the-life piece.

There are so many great moments, phrases, and darkly hilarious snippets within these pages. If you're easily offended then I'm sure you haven't made it this far, which makes the odds of anyone reading this and not seeing it for the great entertainment value it is, low. Also, with Mackay, you pretty much know what you're getting into and you know he's going to try and take each book to one level beyond the next, so what you see is what you get.

And then there's that ending. It's like a bullet train picking up speed and violently crashing into a wall, but in a good way. I can't imagine how the next few books in this series will be able to contain the insanity, but I can't wait to find out what's in store.

IN THEIR SHOES
BOOK 3
THE MODEL
by
Andrew Mackay

Journalist Joy Attwood is shadowing her third professional, celebrated runway and advertising model Oksana Volkov.
Jo meets up with Oksana at her apartment where she meets her son Ivan, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome and Charly, her druggie ?friend.
Oksana is (in my opinion) not a very nice person and dissed Joy regularly, although she is gorgeous and has a captivating accent. The story takes the reader on a roller coaster ride through the deceptively glamorous world of modeling with the author's trademark puns and word play, there is however a much more sinister undertone to this episode of In Their Shoes as the underworld of drugs and sexual exploitation make their appearance in the story. The end of the story left me with much to think on.

Joy is a journalist, and she's not just any journalist; she's a journalist who gets down and dirty. Really. Every scene makes you both double over in laughter and wincing at the absurd scenes of both journalism and modeling. Just when you think you've got the whole situation pegged, a new twist keeps you turning page after page for the entirety of the novel. It will be over before you know it, leaving you scrambling to read the others.

In this installment of In Their Shoes we see Joy following a Russian model Oksana Volkov. She is very tall and perfect (or so people think) in every way. In this book Joy finds herself in even more bizarre situations than in the last two books. And some of these situations are even more dangerous. I do feel bad for Joy at the end of this one. I don't think she signed on for all that happened to her. And just like any other government office looks like for the right price anything can go away.

Been there, never done that. I knew I was sheltered during the brief time I modeled as a child - one three minute trip down the runway at a local mall probably doesn't really count, does it? But I never had any clue just how sheltered I really was. All I can say is that I'm grateful I never had to go through even a tiny portion of what happens in this book. In spite of it going places I wish it hadn't, I still feel guilty for just how funny I thought it was.

Book #3 pushes the humor further than the previous 2 books if that is possible. I LOVE the over the top happenings in this book. I have no idea where the Author comes up with his ideas but I am thrilled that he chooses to share his brilliant satire (and gross) humor with the world. The "In Their Shoes" series is a great break from reality for me. I look forward to more from Andrew Mackay!!

Fantastic read! Joy is at it again in this super funny expierence with a fashion model. This book definitely had darker undertones and situations than the other 2 in the trilogy. Mackay does it again!

Outrageous and brutal as well as being so funny. Joy's adventure turns darker and disturbing with her being involved in some bizarre situations and with some weird and wonderful characters. Over the top and thrilling.

If the first two books of “In Their Shoes” series were prevailed mainly by satiric humor, the author brought in “The Model,” shades of intrigues and drama, revealing through the eyes of Joy and the Russian supermodel Oksana Volkov, the modeling industry.

Even if I had a basic cultural knowledge related to this topic, I was impressed how, through the eyes of his well-developed characters, I had access reading this book, to a “behind the scenes” world full of contrasts and unpredictability, the book being hard to put the book down once started!

I enjoyed reading “The Model” as much as the previous two books from this series, and I’m very impressed by the engaging diversity that the author managed to bring in all his books. I think this is a great tool to reach more and more readers, based on their interests and I'm looking forward to the author's upcoming books!

The Model far surpasses the first two entries in the series. Whereas the first book (The Teacher)was straight up funny. The second book (The Actor) was crazy. The Model steps into some extremely dark waters. The final four chapters really got to me as the story spins into an utter nightmare. This entry is not for everyone. There are a few sections that really are gross-out as you would expect. Also in the story is a heart-breaking subplot involving Oksana the model and her junkie friend. Some of those sections grossed me out. But the series is just excellent and is keeping me guessing. It’s also very funny. I love Mannequoid the gender-fluid android! He needs his own series!

I’m loving this series and I can’t wait for the next book.
But that climax, tho…

Andrew Mackay sure has a way of telling the story that Joy Attwood gave him. He has you wondering if this next book is worth Joy interviewing the Russian Model Oksana Volkov. It starts out sketchy with a young boy answering the door and having Joy follow him up to their flat. It is an open concept with open being the main word. Now this Oksana is not only a high end model, she is a mother of a 6 year old boy, Johnny and an artists. She has very strange ways of handling things. Here in America it would come under child abuse. But she clearly loves her son and would kill for him.
As Joy is getting to know her new subject, a man bursts into the room all strong up and acting very "way out there". Joy wonders if her is high on drugs or is this really him. He has the task of driving Johnny to school. Oksana tells Joy that they are going with them and be dropped off at their first destination. Ya!
As the day goes on, Joy finds this women very gorgeous, but very strange at the same time. The work out, head to a photo shoot where Joy is to take part in. Okay, I can do that Joy thought. But what she has to do is xxx rated and Oksana has to remind her that they are getting paid a Lot of money to do this. But when it goes a little farther, Joy flat out refuses, until Oksana persuades her to do it. Talk about of your comfort zone!
They have a big job latter in the afternoon. Oksana is to model of the very very high end Synapse/Vladychestvo. The fashion show is to show off their Spring line, and the models are wearing just that, a line. There are all kind of shapes and sizes to model. The whole setup was weird and the runway looked like a tongue, weird.
Well things went down hill from there. there is overdose, fire, explosion, fast getaway and so much more. Joy just couldn't end it there, nooo, she had to find out what Oskana and Alex was going to that night, Big Mistake!
Andrew and Joy had me at the end of my seat most of the time. You know, you really wonder if this happens in the Modeling world? I wouldn't be surprised if some of it really does. I wonder who Joy will end up with for the next In Their Shoes? Can't wait to see! Will it be just as hot and sexy as this one?

This is book three in the series and if you have read the first two books then you will want to continue the series with this one. This installment of In Their shoes is just as crazy and hilariously outrageous as the first two books with the addition of drugs, sexual content and dead bodies. I can't wait to see what is in store for journalist Joy Attwood in the next book.

Don’t miss out!

Another 5-star performance by Andrew Mackay / Joy Attwood. In this story Joy is following a model, who is beautiful from the outside, but not so much on the inside… or is she? You’re just gonna have to read it yourself! The story is a bit OTT here and there, but of course, that’s part of the charm. It gets pretty bizarre in places… It’s an absolute rollercoaster! Full of action, the story has elements of a thriller at the end. But mostly it’s a story full of fun and sarcasm!

The final book in the In Their Shoes Trilogy and this one is about models. British satire and humor is over the tops and this book is full of it. Pretty vicious in its assault on the modeling industry. I'm so glad he is not writing about me in a bathing suit. A funny take on the modeling world. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
