I have been following Daron Roberts for some time now on LinkedIn and have subscribed to his weekly newsletters titled "Stay In The Deep End".

His book "Call An Audible" is written similarly to his weekly newsletters. The primary difference between his weekly newsletters and this book are that it is more of guide to how to make choices for yourself and set your own self up for success while the newsletters are bite sized nuggets of wisdom that for me personally, are almost always resounding. Back to the book review…

After graduating Harvard Law Daron decided to pivot in his career and pursue coaching in the NFL. Definitely a major pivot! Especially for an individual who played football only at the high school level and had no other coaching experience.

"Call An Audible" is truly a guide for success and provides several key tips on managing yourself for your own success. As Daron notes frequently in his weekly newsletters, no one is going to care about you as much you are. This book exudes that fact in every chapter. Also, that your own happiness should be paramount in your own life. And while not everyone will strive to be a successful NFL coach, this book can provide you with a framework to achieving success in your own chosen career path.

Another key point that I gleaned from this book is that your life and career paths are not linear. Far from it in fact. No matter your age and current career and current mile marker of your life/career there are many great things to observe in this book.

Five starts out of five stars!

Call an Audible is a non-fiction book written by Daron K. Roberts. This book explains the ups and downs of Roberts's adventure to becoming a NFL football coach. He is a Harvard dropout who reached his dream. He tells us the story and tells us the steps he took to reach his dream. If you like books that give you life lessons, then you will love this book. Roberts starts off as an assistant coach at a camp to becoming a well-known NFL coach. This book gives great life lessons but the story gets a bit boring in the middle of the book. At first, the book didn't make sense. It was confusing but if you read it the second time, you will probably understand it. Overall, this book is a great inspiring book. I learned a life lesson. "Convert low-value activities into high-value opportunities." says Roberts. Don't look at everything bad. Find the good in it. I would give this book three stars.

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ After having listened to Daron speak at a leadership development seminar at my job, I was so excited to read his book. It did not disappoint. He spoke intimately on the difficulties of his many educational and professional journeys and you couldn’t help but read in awe as he fell down but got back up multiple times. ONE Harvard Law rejection would have turned someone to a different school or career path. Daron applied four times until he finally got in. He received 31 rejection letters from NFL teams, even more from college ones. He took an unpaid internship in the NFL and, again, I was in utter awe as I read about how hard he worked to turn his dream and passions into reality. He is an incredible reminder that adversity is simply a hurdle, and we are all capable of leaps and bounds more than we think we are.

Call an Audible demonstrates that it’s never too late to pursue your dream.

As I read about Roberts’s shift from law to football, I couldn’t believe it but as he outlined his actions, strategies, and ideas, I believed in him.

He chose happiness and teaches readers that by starting at the bottom and relentlessly pursuing your dream, you can achieve it.

You just have to choose to start.

I highly recommend this great book.

Omaha, Omaha! (Colts & Broncos fans would get this..)

What a great read on how hard work, dedication and devotion can get you pretty much anything you desire. It shows that you can overcome any odds in life if you truly believe it can happen. Shoot for the stars. Find your passion. You never know where it will lead you. This book shows this and more. A great read for young professionals that I would certainly (& WILL) recommend!

Inspiring, Daron points out the value of attention to detail in every aspect of your job. Thinking outside the box to to what your supervisor or management may prioritize and make that your priority.

Inspirational and informational this book is is an interesting "how to" about accomplishing ones dreams even when they seem impossible. The author Daron K. Roberts' journey from Harvard Law School graduate to NFL defensive backs coach is fascinating. I learned a lot about the NFL that I, as a typical fan, never get to see. I recommend this book highly.
