The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe

Rate this book
The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe is a brilliant collection of some of his best-known stories:
The Tell Tale Heart (a murder's haunting guilt), illustrated by Virginia Nitouhei
The Cask of Amontillado (a story of brilliant revenge), and illustrated by Chagen
The Fall of the House of Usher (an ancient house full of very dark secretes), illustrated by Linus Liu and Man Yiu

Also included in this collection are The Mask of the Red Death (horrors of 'the Plague'), as illustrated by Uka Nagao, and the most famous of all his poems, The Raven (a lover's decline into madness), illustrated by Pikomaro.

Best read in a dimly-lit room with the curtains drawn, Poe's brilliant works come to life in darkly thrilling ways in this Manga Classic adaptation.

The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe: Manga Classics was a solid 4 stars. Though I’m not an avid Poe fan, I enjoyed the various stories that were included in this manga, such as The Fall of the House of Usher, The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart. The artwork was amazing (as with all the Manga Classics I have read so far) and the stories were nicely told.
I recommend this to readers that enjoy manga/graphic novels and definitely fans of Edgar Allan Poe. Thank you NetGalley for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

The only story of Edgar Allan Poe that I've read was "The Cask of Amontillado," which was a required must-read by our high school teacher over a decade ago. It was both bizarre and gruesome, and reading it again in this graphic novel brought up how I was really horrified back then.

Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe
Aside from the aforementioned story, there are other four tales in this book: The Tell-Tale Heart; The Raven; The Masque of the Red Death; and The Fall of the House of Usher. This manga adaptation of some of the well-known stories of Poe is, I believe, a good way to make any readers to enjoy them more. I highly recommend this graphic novel and other manga classics published by Udon Entertainment to students — so they can vividly imagine and better understand these classic tales.

New way of reading masterpieces of Edgar Allan Poe. Definitely good for new generation of young people who doesn’t like to read any classics specially prose of gothic literature. I was very excited when I received this copy because I could re-read beautiful stories and enjoyed the gorgeous illustrations the same time.

Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

THIS was a very good manga! It was more than delightful to see some of my all-time favorite pieces of Edgar Allan Poe's brought to life in the beautiful artwork that is contained in this book. I also love that the manga follows the traditional Japanese style where you read from back to front. This is a very well done manga and I will be looking for more classics from this series. Do recommend!

Manga adaptations of classic works is one of my favourite things in the book universe. Being able to see a story in a different way is always such a great experience.

I love Edgar Allan Poe, so I figured this was an excellent choice for me. I would highly recommend educators picking up books like these and give them to their students. Having an option to see the story as well as pick them apart would be a great way to learn!

This book includes a little bio of Edgar, who is quite the interesting soul if you didn't know about him. His spooky tales seemed to be inspired by his tragic life. There's also more than a few classics scattered throughout this anthology of manga/stories: The Raven, The Tell Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Mask of the Red Death

The pictures are haunting (in a good way). The black and white colour scheme fits well with Poe's tales. They are dark, spooky and weird. The style fits really well, which is just an added bonus to seeing the story.

Four out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for providing me a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

A different choice for me. Poe's works are so widely known and have been re-published or turned into TV/film so many times I know many of the stories without actually having read more than maybe 2 of them. And while I've read some graphic novels I've never tried Manga so lots of new experiences all round.

Not sure what to expect with Manga but with this graphic novel it seemed to be exactly the same but you start at the back and work forward. That was a bit weird at first but reading it from the laptop it soon became easy to scroll up not down and I enjoyed the layout, the art work is fantastic and I would happily seek out more of this style and also the author.

It's also for a Poe novice an excellent introduction to the man's work. The manga style keeps the stories short and to the point. Really enjoyed this on both counts and will happily look up more

Diving into this manga adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's iconic stories was an intriguing journey through the macabre. The fusion of classic literature with modern manga art styles was a refreshing take on Poe's timeless tales.

The artwork, with its eerie and unsettling undertones, served as the perfect complement to the haunting narratives. It skillfully captured the essence of Poe's descriptive prose, bringing his vivid imagery to life in a visually captivating way. As a lover of graphic novel adaptations of Poe's works, I found myself drawn into the pages, eagerly devouring each panel.

The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe collection, featuring beloved classics such as "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Raven," was expertly curated. Each story was given its due respect while also receiving a contemporary twist that breathed new life into these age-old tales.

Overall, this manga adaptation offers a fresh perspective on Poe's masterpieces, making them accessible to a new generation of readers while still retaining their eerie charm. It's a must-read for anyone who appreciates the combination of literature and art in a beautifully crafted package.

Many thanks to Udon and Netgalley for the free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

Great adaptation! I would have loved to see Red Death in color. That would have been quite striking. The heint was a superb rendering. Also the crowd scenes during Carnival in Casque were good. The people were well defined, didn’t look like a pile of shadows. I enjoyed the little fact snippets thrown in at the end of each story. Trivia gems are always appreciated. Another hit, Udon!

I love the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe's dark, and sometimes demented, tales of death, madness, and murder are some of the best classic horror tales. I have Poe's works on my keeper shelf in various forms (classic version, illustrated, comic books, etc) and even have a motion graphic novel app on my phone. He is my go-to mood builder for my favorite holiday -- Halloween! I read through his works every fall.

So far, I am very impressed with the Manga Classics I have read. The books stick to the original story for the most part. The tale is just condensed a bit, and illustrated with manga style art. I'm picky about Poe adaptations, but was pleasantly surprised by this book's depictions of several favorites: The Tell Tale Heart, The cask of Amantillado, The Raven, The Mask of the Red Death, and The Fall of the House of Usher. The dark themes of madness, murderous intent, and death were well depicted. The artwork is fantastic!

I'm ordering a copy of this book to add to the Poe section of my keeper shelf! Loved it!

Are you a fan of classics? Even if you are not, this is the perfect book for you. This book gives a beautiful collection of classic short stories a unique twist by combining them with art that is gorgeous.
Because of the visual representation, you get to experience what happens in the story at a whole new level. Realistically drawn manga is my favorite and it was combined with the stories so well. I was worried that because this was a manga version, the meaning of the stories would change or Poe’s language would be simplified. That is one of the main issues I have when I see classics adapted, but it was not the case at all. The language is the same, the meaning is the same and the experience is enhanced because of the drawings. I love these classics I want to read them all!

First off, I want to give a huge thank you to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: This book is based off the classic stories by Edgar Allan Poe. The book is a manga modernized version of the stories. The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe includes; The Tell-Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, The Masque of the Red Death and The Fall of the House of Usher. This graphic novel is targeted for young adult and teenage readers. It has different artwork by different artist for each story.

Review: I absolutely loved this manga! I know I usually post fiction reviews but I have to admit I like my manga too. My inner nerd was screaming out to me when it saw manga and Poe in one book. I felt like this book was the perfect modernized creation of Poe possible. The artwork was beautiful and the stories had me on the edge of my seat turning pages. Who knew Poe could be so much fun? I think this book is great for students, so they can learn the work of Poe without all that out of date language. Students and other young people will be able to get the same great feel and thrill that Poe gives us, it would just be delivered in an more modernized and artistic fashion.

I was sent this book by the publishers for a honest review. All these opinions are my own and thank you so much to the publishers for sending me a copy!"

This is a beautiful manga of someone of the well known Edgar Allan Poe's poems. The pictures in this tell the story of the poems beautifully and actually mak should understand the poems better.

I've never read a manga before but I have always been so intrigued by the Poems by Edgar Allan Poe and so I definitely had to request a copy. The pictures really go to the story well and I loved how the author/Illustrator never changed any of the rich language used in the original poems.

THE RAVEN
The raven tells the story of a Widower who isn't grieving for his wife as he starts to see things that can't really be explained.
This edition to the story was my least favrouite probably because of the fact that the poem by Edgar wasn't my favrouite anyway.

THE CASK OF AMONTULLADO
This poem I had never read before but I can tell you it was amazing. This tells the story of a man with a revenge wish against this other dude. The man lures his enemy in and buries him alive, its such a really dark but intriguing poem and the manga really captured that.

THE MASQUE OF RED DEATH
This poem tells the story of a man that is hiding from a fictional plague that has taken over the land. This manga was so well illustrated and interesting, it was definitely not as dark as the others but still really good.

THE TELL TALE HEART
This is my favrouite poem ever except Annabelle Lee but that was not included in this Manga. This tells the story from a Murders Point of view and it's just so creepy but keeps you on the edge of your seat. I found the illustrations so beautiful in this book.

THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER
This wasn't my favrouite Manga edition but it was still really good and well crafted. This is also a dark poem/Short story but i found it harder to understand.

This book was my first MANGA and after I got the hang of it, I was able to read it comfortably.

I am familiar with the works of Edgar Allan Poe, and this book of his stories was brilliantly illustrated and rendered for easy reading..

I have decided that I want to go back to the classics and reread them and this is a great way to do it. I look forward to reading some of the other classics in this format.

NetGalley review.

description

Poe goes manga! Uno-dos-tres! Rumba!

To tell the truth, I was never big fan of Poe and I guess I will never be. I tried The Red Masque Of Death and yawned almost all the way (it was a DNF. No surprise.). For me it lacked the impact, some hight notes and something truly gripping. So, if you are a Poe fan, explain why you love him so much, and I will try to understand. But I might end in a disaster, so proceed with your own risk.

So, I was a little sceptical about Manga Classic adaptation of his stories. The first thing that drew my attention was B/W style and even if I wished to see more colour, black and white works well for Poe stories. It add just enough creepiness to the story to keep at the edge of your seat.

Also, I could question the chosen manga style - for me Manga (Japan) and Poe (America) just don't seem to work, even thou it was drawn beutifully. And while Vampire Academy and The Witcher series comic took an unexpected turn and chosen different style and design, Manga Classic stays, well, quite classic. It says the manga was drawn with much consideration and research to Poe's stories, trying to keep them as close to his imagined world as possible, so fan will surely appreciate it.

I’ve read some of the Poe stories and I loved how the fine artwork accompanied his proses. For the ones I hadn’t read, it was told and portrayed in such a way that I could easily understand everything that was going on. I wasn’t struggling to figure stuff out. Great job to the artist for the nice artwork and arrangement. My only complaint is that I was thrown off at the beginning since the stories started but the titles for each of them were at the end. Thank you Netgalley and Manga Classics Inc. for allowing me to read this fabulous work!

Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe, Stacy King, and multiple artists

4 stars

This is a collection of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous tales. I have never thought about what Poe’s work would be like it were translated into a manga medium, but I’m glad that I decided to request this on Netgalley because I have been a fan of the Manga Classics series, but I am also a fan of Poe. The two combinations cohesively melded together and made this collection very enjoyable. There was only one story in this collection that I did not like seeing brought to life, but besides that one failure, this collection is incredibly impressive and does a fantastic job of bringing Poe’s ominous style to life through haunting visuals.

The Tell-Tale Heart (Illustrated by Virginia Nitouhei) – 4.5 stars
I loved seeing this one brought to life, but it didn’t translate the lyrical suspense Poe relies heavily on in the story. I think that visuals took away from that hysterical maddening pace. I still really enjoyed the art in this one and there were times where I was chilled to the bone.

The Cask of Amontillado (Illustrated by Chagen) – 5 stars
This is one of my favorite Poe stories and it was so fun to see this brought to life. I’ve read this story multiple times now, so seeing it in a new medium really enhanced my appreciation for this tale and it was horrifying to see in images.

The Raven (Illustrated by pikomaro) – 4.5 stars
I don’t think that poetry translates well into manga. However, the final scene was incredible and it encapsulates the entirety of the story. That final image pretty much won me over and I can’t give it a lower rating because of that.

The Masque of the Red Death (Illustrated by Uka Nagao) – 4.25 stars
This was my first time reading this story and I think that because I have not read the original material the manga formatting confuddled me a bit. I was particularly confused by the plot, but I still really enjoyed reading this and I think it’s a haunting story.

The Fall of the House of Usher (Illustrated by Man Yiu) – 2 stars
I love this story, but it does not translate well into manga. There is a massive amount of description in the original story and it was attempted to be included in the panels. This made the experience very overwhelming and chaotic.

Art Scale (Overall Collection): 4

Overall, I definitely recommend this collection especially if you love Edgar Allan Poe. There were a lot of wonderful illustrations sprinkled throughout the pieces and it really captures Poe’s macabre vibe.

Cover Thoughts: It’s a nice cover, but it only uses art from The Tell-Tale Heart. I think if it had pieces from each story that would be much more inviting.

Thank you, Netgalley and Udon Entertainment, for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

*I received a copy of this via Netgalley - thank you so much to the publisher for sending me over a copy!*

This was the first real book that I read for the Spooky September readathon, because I mean, what is more spooky than an Edgar Allen Poe story? I was eager to try it out in manga version, since I always fell quite overwhelmed when trying to pick up an actual classic. It turned out to be an interesting medium that I both enjoyed but also got checked out from.

The art varied for me. I really liked the art in "Nevermore" and "The Masque of the Red Death." Those had really great art, and I liked the movement, the style, and the detail. "The Fall of the House of Usher" had okay art, and I really wasn't a fan of the "The Cask" or "The Tell-Tale Heart" art - even though they did feel a little more darker and Poe-y.

I will say the manga did really stay true to the Poe stories. It really just brought to life the pictures that Poe puts into the story. So, Poe fans, will really appreciate how true it stayed and just added in the pictures. However, I always do have an issue with following along with classics and it did get a tiny bit boring in parts, so there were parts that I really tuned out and started skimming. I think it was just a personal preference, but I guess I would have liked a little more...liberty taken with them to condense it?

I also never really got the creepy, spooky vibe from it that I wanted to. However, I think it was a great interpretation of the story, and they definitely brought Poe to life.

Overall, it wasn't a bad manga, but I never really felt the huge draw for it. It never really brought me the spooks, but the art was mostly great and it stayed true to Poe. It was a lot easier to taken the large volume of his work. It was a pretty decent start to my Spooky September reads. 3 crowns and a Belle rating!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the Manga Classics line—I actually kind of expected them to be abridged or rewritten, whereas this is more like Poe's writing with illustrations in a manga format—but as a die-hard, lifelong lover of Poe's writing, this did not disappoint! The collection includes a few stories of his, and luckily for me, all five of these are my favorite Poe works: The Tell-Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Masque of the Red Death, The Raven, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

The artwork is different from one story to the next, but it's all absolutely exquisite, with my favorite style belonging to the artist responsible for The Raven, as it's very fluid and whimsical in a sense. I thought the illustrations matched the stories perfectly and it really was such a fun way to reread these old favorite stories. I highly recommend it not only for long-time fans of Poe, but also for those who are looking to read these stories for the first time! There are also some fun little factoids about Poe's career as a writer and his personal life strewn between the stories.

Thank you so much to Udon Entertainment for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

“And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted- Nevermore!”

Disclaimer: I have never read a book or a story form Edgar Allan Poe, and I decided to throw myself into this manga hoping to feel the gloomy and disturbing atmospheres whereby the author is famous. The experiment was successful.

The manga is divided into five stories, I will give my divided opinions:

The tell-tale heart:
It was the first story-manga I read and I immediately appreciated it. Beautiful designs, just for the subject matter. Excellent choice of perspectives and phrases of effect.
On great impact.

The cask of Amontillado:
Unfortunately, I did not like the drawings or the story here, even though they are doing well in the collection.

The raven:
It Continues the feeling of disquiet and paranoia, well done scenes in this story, I liked the artistic styles. Very good.

The mask of the red death:
Oh, that's great. I Adored it. It gives the feeling of being in a dark place reading this story, perhaps during a dark and stormy night. Excellent drawings, excellent script. Truly phenomenal. The best.

The fall of the House of Usher:
Perhaps it is the most difficult to read, the one with the most captions. Difficult to start, then the reader is drawn into a vortex of madness and chills. It makes you keep the breath to the end, even the drawings are great for the story, simple yet effective.

A great choice.

I was so excited when I found this available on Netgalley. My excitement increased when I found out that this book contains 5 Poe's exciting stories (not to mention that one of them is my ultimate favorite), they are:
- The Tell-Tale Heart
- The Cask of Amontillado
- The Raven
- The Masque of Red Death
- The Fall of the House of Usher

BUT, sadly, the more I read, the more I realize that this book is actually NOT what I expected.

I really enjoy The Tell-Tale Heart. I think that story is the best one here (judging from the dialogue, illustrations, effects, etc). It portrays Poe's work perfectly and I got chills while reading it. I also love the illustrations so much, and the dialogue are great.

But I don't feel the same for the rest of the stories. Some of them keep Poe's writing style that makes it hard to understand (and kinda weird to read..? somehow...?). And other illustrations are lacking. The art is beautiful, but I don't feel the sense of dread or horror that I usually catch while reading Poe's works.

My biggest disappointment is in The Masque of Red Death. Maybe because it's my favorite story from Poe, so it's only natural that I expected more. But I feel like the bright, clean, and simple illustration ultimately failed to bring the atmosphere of the original story.

All in all, it's not-your-average manga and I enjoyed it quite much. But I don't think I would read it again anytime soon.

Really the only reason this got 4 stars instead of 5 for me is because I haaate the Fall of the House of Usher. I get that it's one of Poe's famous works and I totally understand the decision to include it in this volume but it's just so much longer than the other stories and I feel like there's a ton of unnecessary rambling in it that makes my eyes glaze over. I would have rather seen the Pit and the Pendulum but that's just my personal preference. Other than that I really enjoyed this. The art was great and I love reading graphic novel adaptations of Poe's works. The stories themselves are so descriptive and it's always interesting to see an artist interpret that and bring it to life. Also it's been awhile since I read the originals but it seems like most of the text has been faithfully reproduced so that's always good.

This is a manga collection of some of Edgar Allan Poe’s best short stories. They include: The Tell Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, The Mask of the Red Death, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

These stories are some of my favourite short stories. They are all descriptive and have lots of imagery that translates well to illustrations. I loved revisiting these classic stories and seeing them illustrated for the first time.

The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe (Manga Classics) is a great manga adaptation of his classic horror stories.

First of all I want to congratulate the author/ illustrator of these Manga series for the beautiful artworks and the effort they have put into making this reach people. It's really admirable. Illustrations as usual are lively and beautiful. The use of color red made it even more special if you know what I mean.

I have been fan of Poe since many years now. I read his Raven years ago and then I kept reading everything by him. He is the master of poems and short stories and he was pioneer of detective stories as well. He was known for his macabre and gloomy themes.

Visiting Poe's works through Manga was definitely a treat. Some works are just timeless and this collection of Poe' s works is one of them.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was never a big classics reader but over the recent years, I wanted to read more classics. Never would I think I would be reading classics in the form of a manga. I absolutely loved that manga was used to translate Edgar Allan Poe’s dark and heart-racing stories and the artists did a fantastic job.

Without any knowledge of or reading any Poe’s stories, I found myself entrapped in his mysterious, dark and creepy world for the first time. His stories built so much suspense and seize you with terror yet you still want to continue reading on. Each story is unique in its own ways, each start and each end is different and all of them are at different levels of haunting.

I should give you an advice, if you’re easily scared, don’t read this at 3am. I did that and needed some light-hearted youtube videos to make me less afraid.

These are the individual rating for each book:

- The Tell-Tale Heart: 4 stars
- The Cask of Amontillado: 3 stars
- The Raven: 5 stars
- The Masque of the Red Death: 4 stars
- The Fall of the House of Usher: 4 stars

THE TELL TALE HEART:
As the first introduction to Edgar Allan Poe’s story I felt that it was so scary. I could see the crazy and the insane through the drawing. It made my heart palpitate so quickly, I was horrified yet intrigued at how things would end.

THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO:
It took me awhile to get into this story mainly because I couldn’t understand what was going on. The drawing isn’t my favourite but it created such a dark and looming premise that it’s scary.

THE RAVEN:
I loved the art done by pikomaro. It made the setting so pretty and beautiful yet also weaving in the horror. Other than the drawing style, I also loved that the story was delivered in the form of rhymes that left a vivid image of the raven, the guy and the premise of the story.

THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH:
After The Raven, The Masque of the Red Death is my favourite. The setting is simple and easily understood and I enjoyed the drawing. Despite the merry and cheer that was happening for almost the entirety of the story, I knew darkness was looming and something bad would be coming for that group of people but don’t know when and how.

THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER:
I felt so tensed while reading this story. I didn’t expect it to be so long but it built up suspense and a sense of dread in me. Amongst all the stories, I think The Fall of the House of Usher was written in the most modern way. I was able to understand the story right away.

I love this story. I find how Poe writes the story and the manga version worked together really well. The artwork in the manga really brought the story to life. It allowed me, as a reader, to see the slow decline of the narrator not only through his words bu this expressions. I loved this.
The Cask of Amontillado by Chagen: 4.75/5
I had read this story for a class before and we had discussed the complex tones of this story. I really loved how the manga artist caught the dark undertone of Montrestor. They also caught his cunning flattery to get Fortunato to do what he wants. This was so good.
The Raven by Uka Nagao: 5/5
Wow this brought a new depth to this poem. I have always liked The Raven but this made me appreciate so much more depth in it. The added story that the manga artist did for this was absolutely amazing and made me look at this poem in a new light.
Also fun fact about ravens: they can imitate human speech and sound human when they speak. Which makes the raven in this even more creepy.
The Masque of the Red Death by Pikomaro: 4.5/5
This was one Poe's stories that I hadn't read yet and wow. I am honestly shocked by this story and it's underlying tones, it's so good. Poe's words and themes work so well with the manga artist who worked on this. The artist was able to capture the undertones of the story and make it creepy right when it was right. This was well done.
The Fall of the House of Usher by Linus Liu and Man Yiu: 4/5
This one was always one of my least favorite Poe works as I feel it drags a bit. However, the artwork in this really made it ten times better for me. I loved seeing the visual of this story and the slow decline of Usher. This was sufficiently creepy and I'm feeling a bit jumpy after this story. The artwork for this was perfect for the story.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed this Manga Classic. I have wanted to read the Edgar Allan Poe one for awhile now and I was happy to be given a copy of it. I loved the art style of this manga series and the fact that it brought so many different artists together. Every artist caught the themes and the nature of every story or poem that they told. The stories they picked were sufficiently creepy and the artwork added more depth to these stories. This is a book I will be buying a physical copy of in the future as I loved it that much and want it in my manga collection.

The Tell-Tale Heart: Something about the added illustrations adds so much more horror to the story itself. The text itself seemed to be directly taken from Poe's tale, but the depth and intensity of the illustrations, especially the narrator's facial expressions, added a whole other layer to the tales.

The Cask of Amontillado: While I still enjoyed the illustrations, they didn't add as much to the story as with The Tell-Tale Heart. This may be due to how well the original tale already was at inspiring horror, and the illustrations could not top that.

The Raven - While I liked the artistic style of this story, and the illustrations in general, I'm not sure if they were the best match for the story. The narrator/main character almost seems too young, and the lighting of most of the panels seems oddly white/bright for a spooky story. This led to the story being less scary, even though the sorrow and other emotions still came through.

The Masque of the Red Death - I had actually completely forgotten I had read this story until I recognized the opening scene. Once again, I quite liked the chosen illustrations for everything, and especially liked how well they brought to life the descriptions of the revels! However, with such bright color and joy pictured clearly, it obscured the gloom creeping up in the story, which may be both good and bad.

The Fall of the House of Usher: This seems to be the only tale I didn't have prior experience with. I feel as if this made me focus too much on the text, and working to understand the story, rather than on the illustrations and how well they worked together. The main issue I did notice here was that the story itself is already extremely description heavy, so the illustrations sometimes felt unnecessary. However, the extreme caricatures of Usher definitely worked in the story's favor, as it allowed me to much more easily picture and understand how affected he was.

Overall, I felt this was a quite solid "Manga Classic," and I loved what it did for Poe's legendary tales. Not only did the illustrations add (for the most part) to the dark and gloomy descriptions and settings of Poe's tales, they also worked to pace the reader, and make us take time with each line, each image, truly letting the emotion and depth of the tale sink in before moving on to the next page.

It's been many years since I read these stories by Edgar Allan Poe, and I have to say that I enjoyed reading this manga adaptation. The illustrations help creating an even more sinister atmosphere, and the stories' adaption are quite faithful to the originals.

In my humble opinion, I think this is a good way to invite readers to get close to Poe's tales. Therefore, they can get curious enough to try the originals.

Thanks to UDON Entertainment and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe First things first: I received this book through NetGalley.

Summary: The Tales of Edgar Allan Poe is a brilliant collection of some of his best-known stories: The Tell Tale Heart (a murder s haunting guilt), The Cask of Amontillado (a story of brilliant revenge), and The Fall of the House of Usher (an ancient house full of very dark secretes). Also included in this collection are The Mask of the Red Death (horrors of the Plague ), and the most famous of all his poems: The Raven (a lover s decline into madness). Best read in a dimly-lit room with the curtains drawn, Poe s brilliant works come to life in darkly thrilling ways in this Manga Classic adaptation."

I loved this so much. I didn't expect it, actually. I mean, I always love these Manga Classics but I never thought I would actually be interested in these Edgar Allan Poe stories, I don't know why, cause I love getting to know these classics.

They were so amazing. Seriously. I loved The Tell Tale Heart, didn't care much about The Cask of Amontillado, loved The Fall of the House of Usher. The Mask of the red Death, was okay, I liked it, didn't love it. The Raven. THE RAVEN. Loved this one so so SO much. My favorite out of all these stories.

Also, can I once again say how insanely gorgeous the art in these Mangas are. Bloody hell.
