Haunted by the disappearance of her friend, Gretchen is determined to discover the truth. So when a strange old woman gives her a cryptic clue to her friend’s whereabouts, Gretchen packs her bags and heads to Scotland.
But things aren’t as simple as she’d hoped. When she steps through a stone archway on a wind-swept hillside she realizes that to find her friend she must travel not only thousands of miles but hundreds of years into the past – and avert a clan war in the process.
Lost in a world of passion and peril, Gretchen is rescued by Ewan Murray, a brave Scottish warrior. He just might hold the key to everything: finding her friend, averting a war – and unlocking Gretchen’s heart.
But Ewan Murray has demons of his own. Returning to his clan after years of exile, he is eager to build a new life for himself. But with enemies all around, Ewan isn’t sure who to trust – including Gretchen. Does the dark-haired beauty hold the key to his future? Or the destruction of his clan?
And can they figure it out in time to avert a war that will destroy all they hold dear?
Touch of a Highlander is the second book in the Arch Through Time series. Each book can be read as a standalone novel.
Katy Baker was born in London to an English mother and an American father. She grew up a stone's throw from Hampstead Heath which remains one of her favourite places in the world. During her twenties she spent several years living in San Francisco where she developed an abiding love of bagels before returning to her beloved London. She lives in south London with her husband and a very grumpy bulldog.
Katy's books explore the intricacies of human relationships with plenty of spice thrown in. What would life be without a little spice?

Gretchen Matthews is desperately looking for her friend, Darcy (from book 1), who disappeared in Scotland. She blames herself for telling Darcy to take a vacation. She soon meets Irene MacAskil who tells her that she has a message from Darcy telling her that she's doing well and is happy. Gretchen wants to see Darcy for herself and is bewildered by Irene's message about stopping a war and finding her heart's desire. When Irene gives her a guidebook, Gretchen goes to Scotland on a mission to find Darcy. Upon arriving in 16th century Scotland, Darcy is rescued by Ewan Murray who brings her to his home and promises to help find Darcy. Meanwhile, an enemy within the Murray clan is plotting to start a war with the neighboring clan and gain control for himself. When it turns out that Darcy is a member of the neighboring clan, they know they must find a way to stop the war and Ewan must decide whether to believe Gretchen or the man set on destroying the Murray's who says she's a spy.
I loved this book! It's well-written and you really get a feel for the characters. It blends well with the first book as we get to know everyone. I highly recommend this book although I do suggest that you read "Dreams of a Highlander" first. I'm looking forward to the next book.
This was the second book I've read from this author, and I truly enjoyed it. This is my favorite genre, so to come across this author was a bonus for me. If you like strong women from our time and strong Scottish heroes from back in time, then look no further. This is a great book to find out if you enjoy this authors book like I did. Ms. Baker is talented and knows just what her readers want.
A great read. A well written story characters are very well fleshed out so you care about them and the story has lots of excitement and tender moments too. Love this series.
This is an OK time-travel romance, but I did have some issues with it.
First off, Gretchen adapted to her unexpected time-travel way too easily to believe. I think she would have been a lot more freaked out by it then she was. Also, the highlanders would have been much more concerned with her strange clothes and talk than they were. They just kept thinking she must be "daft", and accepted her clothes as normal for someone from America. I think they also would have been more annoyed with her than they were, especially when they thought she was a traitor. It seemed like they put up with a lot from her, with very little anger. I didn't buy it.
Some of the situations that Gretchen got herself into were just stupid. All because she wouldn't talk to Ewan. I wanted to knock some sense into her a few times.
I also thought that this story was very similar to the first one in the series. The h travels unexpectedly thru time, is rescued by a hot highlander, causes trouble with her modern ideas, falls in love with the hot highlander, does something stupid so that she needs to be rescued again, and then everything ends in an HEA.
The story was mildly entertaining, and I did like Irene, so I will read the next in the series -- but I probably would not continue the series if it wasn't free with Kindle Unlimited. Because of the issues I noted above, it gets 3 stars from me.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Touch of a Highlander: Arch Through Time Book 2 By Katy Baker Kindle unlimited purchase Irene MacAskill is at it again. This is book 2 in this series of stand-alone books about destiny and finding your true love. (KB says stand-alone but book 1 book 2 go together) he one thing I LOVE about these time travel books is they are not stuck back in time Irene gives them a CHOICE of going back to their time at the end of the book. (Of course, they choose to stay with their love but still, the choice is still given.) There are 13 books in this series. I'm only 2 books in and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Gretchen is worried about her friend, Darcy, (from book 1) who went missing 6 months ago. After talking to Irene MacAskill she goes to Scotland to look for her. Little does she know the only way to find her is to travel back in time.
Another enjoyable time travel tale by Katy Baker! We move on to Gretchen who was Darcy’s friend from the first book, the one she left behind in the 21st century. Like Darcy, Gretchen is visited by a strange woman and that’s how she winds up headed to Scotland and searching for her friend. Something goes awry and she’s no longer where she was. She’s in front of an honest to goodness hot highlander man. And she’s no longer in her own time. She le landed herself smack down in the middle of a possible war and she’s falling for Ewan, the Highlander who found her. Lies are bubbling up all around and the old woman’s words still swirl in her head. How can she stop a war, find her friend and gain her hearts desire? This book was extremely enjoyable to read and follow along. I’m falling for these Highlander men right along with them!
It seems to me the brothers would have stuck together. Odd to me that they wouldn't. IMO.
I finally felt a taste of what the H had given up and been living with near the end of the book. It made him and his plight more real to me. The h story felt rushed to me, she just slide right into that time without a backward glance. I would have liked to have felt the struggles more with her as well. I liked the way the fae and bad guy story played out. I wonder how the brothers will be restored to others memories and their prior life.
I've read the first book of the series and this one. I did enjoy the essence of the time travel and romance with the excitement of the clan trouble. But I could stop reading and come back later. When I give a 5 star review it means I was trying to figure out what would happen next and couldn't stop reading. These books are entertaining but I can go on to bed and pick it up another time when I'm not busy. So it wasn't compelling nor was it a heart racing romance. But it was just good!
I joined this book. However, as with the first book in the series, the main character is supposed to be American, but her speech and her thoughts are that of a British gal. It’s a pet peeve of mine, and I just can’t help it. One other small detail. When Gretchen is introduced in the first book of the series, she has blonde bouncy hair. However in Gretchen‘s own story, she has dark hair. Just small inconsistencies that bother me a bit. All that being said, I will continue to read the next book of the series.
A book you'll start and won't put-down until it ends
I really love this book it was amazing. The characters were well written well rounded and they surprised you Add as They were just like real people. The story line was fairly simple It's a Story where a girl gets sent back in time to accomplish a deed and falls in love very simple. But this other rights in situation that you wanna keep reading well not want you need to keep reading it's exciting,, interesting And it's romance it's that dream romance and every woman looks for period!
Strong female heroine and honorable hero. This story continues some of the storyline from the first book but can be read without reading the other book first. I feel like an epilogue was needed between books to connect them somehow. The characters have strong connections and the females are impressive and strong. The hero is a strong, honorable man who is protective and righteous. It is a fun story to read.
Recently, my favorite genre has become Highland romances that have a smidge of time-travel. This series fills my needs and desires very well. I love the characters who are well developed and a storyline that held my attention throughout. I highly recommend it. Please note, I actually prefer to imagine what goes on behind closed doors. This is NOT that kind of book.
I like time travel novels, but this one is rather predictable. Has some twists and turns, but nothing really new. Needs to change the theme a bit I think...after the first book, and now this one, don't believe I can read another in the series. But don't just take my word for it, read it yourself!
The only reason I didn't choose to give this title a higher rating was the distinct repetition of segments that happened in the first book of the series... I felt like the passageways copied and pasted only with the new characters. I liked the plot, but wish there was a tad bit more originality in it.
It was okay. The characters were sweet but the issue that I had with the first book persisted in this book. The heroine had zero problem being in the 16th century and the people from the past had no real concern about her odd ways. One new issue I had was that the heroine forgave the hero way too fast (if you know you know). I will not be continuing with this series
This 2nd novel was so similar to her first novel, in using exact same wording that I was a bit put off by it. The lead character Ewan, uses the same exact endearment as Quinn (1st) novel.
All in all it had just enough intrigue to keep me reading.
This was another swashbuckling tale involving time travel. It is really a continuation of Book One in the series. I recommend this adventure to all the romantics out there who enjoy a bit of fantasy or Sci Fi. Adult love scenes are included, so only mature audiences should buy.
If you read the synopsis then you know this is the best friend of the first heroine in the first Arch Though Time book. I liked Gretchen, she was feisty and true to form. This is a formula based book so there isn't a ton of surprises but it still rates for me as a decent read.
The love story of Gretchen and Ewan. Gretchen back in time to find her friend, Darcy. There she met Ewan, a Highland warrior. Gretchen was send back to 1505 to stop a war, can she do it? A great time travel story.
What happens when a mysterious woman shows up to tell you that your best friend is fine but can't contact you? Do you heed her words and hints? Do you chose to go on an adventure that might change your life?
This book was good, only one thing i noticed was that the main character is supposedly from modern day america, but uses the word "whilst" a few times. It is a good love story I thought overall though.
Missing her best friend, she goes to Scotland to search for her. Instead of her friend, she meets on of the car and wakes up in Scotland, 400 years in the past. He needs a wife, he is a new laird and it is required. Don't miss this one.
This book is the welcome perfect mate of the 1st book. It rides its own waves of fun, concern, and a resolution that you worry won’t come! It sure makes a person ravenous for what happens next!
I enjoyed this story & loved the dedication Ewan had for his clan. I also like how Gretchen never gave up on her search for Darcy. Plus how each books story ties into each other!
A good story, good characters and a plot easy to follow and enjoy. It's a bit twee and glosses over things that would unlikely have happened in the time it's set, but it is still an enjoyable read.
I absolutely loved this book! It was packed full of great characters, adventure, love and excitement! I recommend this book to anyone that loves historical romance.
This was good. I really enjoyed it and the characters. Who wouldn't want the opportunity to travel to the past, meet ones heart's desire and potentially save the world? Pure fantasy, yes and a very sweet love story with just enough revenge and espionage thrown in to make it fun.
