Mr. Stroud must have been a compelling history teacher. I read this book as research on the burning of Henderson, Texas on 8/5/1860. While the fire was covered, there so much more in the book about the political situation of the time and all that led up to Lincoln’s election and of to the Civil War. If you think politics are wild now….
