ugh, i know that these books are like really superficial and stuff but i find them truly hilarious because these girls are so incredibly over the top and so incredibly snobby that it makes me laugh out loud, so i can't wait for the next one!
Everyone is finally starting to grow up and branch out! I do feel bad for Massie, because it’s really not obvious to anyone but herself, and maybe Claire, how hard she actually works to keep her friends on top, but I know they’ll all get back together.
It was also weird though how little of Claire there was in this story. I think she maybe had like, 15 lines of dialogue. It focused mostly on Kristen and Dylan, which was new and fresh, so I didn’t mind, but I hate that the books really only focus on 2 or 3 girls at a time, when there’s 5 in the group.
Claire, though! What a good friend. Honestly. I’m glad that Massie is finally seeing that. I get the whole loyalty thing, too, because I’m the same way, but it’s nice to see that she’s definitely maturing.
What the red wedding or jeoffrey’s death did for game of thrones is true for this installment of the Clique series. It shakes up the Pretty Committee and the premise of the series to their core
Being a Claire and Cam fan, I didn't like how the main character (typically Claire) had changed to the evil ruler, Massie. I have a hate/love relationship with how she figures out her own evil personality, decides to do something about it, but then decides that if the world doesn't like it, they could just be on their own. This would be a great moral, but Massie is one of those girls I would never speak to, due to her incredible rudeness, especially to her own friends.
I'm really happy though that Dylan gets a guy, who suits her perfectly. Too bad Massie can't get over that it's her ex, but I guess, we can't all win our wars.
It's about darn time that Alicia pulls away from Massie. Let someone with some sort of brains be the leader if there is to be a leader of a particular group or middle school girls.
Kristen's boy problems are pretty sad. That's all I can say about that.
I'm just surprised by the fact that Claire and Cam went to Massies pool party. It shows Claires character, which I value the most out of just about anybody else in The Clique series.
I find these books super addicting, can't help but admit it, but at the same time I hate the very basis of it. The Clique series is my personal placebo to drama, because I try to pull myself away from that as much as possible now.

I love that the girls are finally coming into themselves with a bit of confidence and standing up to massie and her mega control issues, can't believe I'm nearing the end of this re read!
The next book in the clique series, the leader of the pretty Committee,Massie Block is faced with some major challenges this year. The 5 of them have gone through some tough times and now it seems even tougher. Some one is with Derrington,or Derrick,Massie's ex. This turns out to be Dylan and Alicia is the one to see them together. Alicia hangs it over Dylan's head for some good gossip points, while Dylan waits to be found out, wishing Massie would release her hold on him. Dylan knows that Massie never respected Derrick,(Derringtion's real name) and knows that she won'tlet him go with this other girl until he gets Dempsey, the LBR gone cool.Claire's best friend,Layne, also has a crush on him and tries to get her secret BFF Kristen(member of the PC) to help her get him. Massie and Layne fight for Kristen's help while she has some major love issues also.
In the end,Massie realizes that Claire and Cam have been good and true friends for her all the time. She decides to pick a new PC,for a new year. Frsh start. Amazing book.
It made me really upset that Dylan had a crush on derrington and how they end up going out. Your not supposed 2 do that 2 ur friends. It especially made me sad that clique broke up in the end

Probably in almost every school there’s always a group of people who may be better known amongst the students of their school or in other words popular. At Briarwood-Octavian Country Day School, the Pretty Committee would be that group of people. Massie Block, Kristen Gregory, Dylan Marvil, Alicia Rivera, and Claire Lyons who’ve always stayed on top even when there were obstacles, so what will happen when Alicia decides that she wants to be the leader of the Pretty Committee and not Massie? Or when Dylan has a crush on someone she’s not suppose to, one of the Pretty Committee’s ex-boyfriend? Or also when Kirsten has to choose between her two best friends? Oh and what will happen to Massie the Pretty Committee’s alpha as she and Claire watch the Pretty Committee fall apart? This is P.S. I Loathe You, a Clique novel by Lisi Harrison, the #1 New York Times bestselling series. I found this to be the best book of the entire Clique series. It’s entertaining, full of drama and thrilling. There are a lot of things in the book that a reader would be able to connect to. Like liking someone but not sure weather or not they like you back. Or having to choose between two things and knowing that choosing one thing would probably hurt the other. Throughout the book, it has made me laughed and relate to each of the characters. I would recommend this book to teens that enjoy books about friendship and romance. Once you begin reading this book, it’ll keep you flipping the pages till you’ve completely finished the entire 208 pages of the book. Read P.S. I Loathe You by Lisi Harrison whenever you get he chance, you won’t regret it.
PS. I Loath You, is the tenth book of the clique series. Unlike other books dealing with pointless and tacky comebacks and climbing their social status, this time the plot is more realistic and had grabbed my attention. The character named Massie has been the leader of the clique for long period of time but happens if her friends are of sick of it? As she enjoys controlling others, she abuses her power. She uses her friends just to steal the spotlight in cheerleading and to stop them to not surpass her. Soon her guilt was eating her, she looks back on her action on what horrible things she had done to her friends, but is it too late to apologize? Later on Kristen, Alica, and Dylan has chosen their separate paths and thinking their leader was a burden. Leaving Massie with her true friend, Claire.
This is one of the books I enjoyed cause every page kept me excited even if the reading level is below mine, I still thought it was great how the author did something new by turning the main characters against each other. Also how it gave a message to the readers that no matter how much you enjoy/like something and when you indulge it you soon regret doing it.
The Pretty Committee has officially ended its boy-fast, and Massie Block is crushing her way into Dempsey Solomon's heart. What she has to do urgently is make her ex jealous. Just to make matters worse, one of Massie's BFFs starts crushing on Derrington, (Derrick Herrington) her ex. And she also finds out that LBR (Loser Beyond Repair) Layne Abeley, is crushing on that same guy. Things start getting really messed up while the PC is lovesick. So, to make sure that she is the one that wins Dempsey's heart, she start BOCD's first ever cheerleading squad. She does this just because Derrington's injured and Dempsey's going out to substitute his goalie spot. Will she win Dempsey's heart with the cheerleading squad, or will the Pretty Committee fall apart before she even gets a chance?
I liked this book because it shows what kind os sacrifices friends have to do for each other. Sometimes, other stuff gets in the way. It shows what a true alpha (Massie Block) does to gain confidence when something happens. The book has some tender moments and some feelings of dislike; sort of like the title. All the PC wants is to have a soul mate and a close place in the Pretty Committee, without hurting anyone's feeling's.
First of all this book is extremely suspenseful. Second of all, when you start reading it you won't stop until you fall asleep; which is not going to happen because you'll never get bored with this one. This was the second the clique book that I read, and it was better times ten than Charmed and Dangerous. This book was so helpful to me since what happened to Kristen happened to me when I was reading this book. My friends love me so much but they hate each other and each one wants me with her. So I kept on doing what Kristen kept on doing: avoiding them. The problem is that whatever Kristen wasn't going to work with my friends at all. There was this last part, when Kristen talked to Dempsey for Massie and Layne, that made me scream literally because I didn't expect it at all. It was like you're running away from a bomb and then BOOM! It just hit me.
Again I recommend this book for everyone because I bet that everybody will like and ah-dore it. And by the way, be alert from that part because if it made me scream I don't know what it will do to you!

Yeah so..I think a bunch of stuff that happened in this book is really dumb. Like how instead of Massie&Claire's thoughts..it was Massie&Kristen*Dylan's thoughts..and that Dylan got Derrington..soooo messed up.
readers are always biased, and my bias comes from the fact that this was the first book that came out after i had started reading the series. and as such, i think this is the beginning of the downfall as things become too weird
i don't like the focus on kristen, although in hindsight her own crush on dempsey is obvious. her friendship with layne is also boring. alicia's betrayal to have her own squad also boring. i also don't like dylan and derrington together (i am too loyal to massie...)
i just want massie to rule the world with her clique by her side
Dear God, where do I start? Ooh, I have it. I'm going to start with the repetition of the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, are you getting bored already, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, do you want me to stop, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, is this getting annoying, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, I think you get the picture but I'm still gonna keep going, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, just like Harrison did, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, does this make you want to bang your head against the wall, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, the alpha, okay I'm done here. If that made you want to flush your head down the toilet, I don't blame you ONE IOTA. That's how I felt. Let's move on.
I think there's not much to rant about until the theme park scene, where (are you ready for this?) MASSIE YANKS LAYNE OUT OF THE ROLLER COASTER SEAT AND SITS DOWN IN IT BESIDE DEMPSEY!!!! "Excuse me Layne, are you a fisherman?" "No, WHY?" "Then why are you cutting the line?" (Side note: MASSIE cut the line.) Just WRITING about this is making my blood boil. But then Layne gets back at Massie by throwing up falafel al over her $10,000 designer clothes. Nice going, Layne! But if someone had yanked ME out of a roller coaster seat just so they could sit with their significant other, I would probably push them OFF said roller coaster and watch it run them over into roadkill and hope they rot in hell.
It gets worse when Massie blames KRISTEN for Layne getting to ride again, this time with Dempsey. Earlier in the story, Kristen is feeling like she's pulled into two different tides because both Massie and Layne are getting into a cutthroat competition over Dempsey and she doesn't know how to help either of them. Kristen owes Layne a favor for what Layne did to help Kristen over the summer, and Massie, well, gets what she wants the SECOND she wants it, purple hair streak or not. (Read my rant-review for Massie in the Summer Collection to understand what that's all about.) Massie even goes so far as to "mark" Dempsey by spraying him with her perfume. When Derrick says "The same thing happened to me. It means you've been touched by an angel," and Layne says, "More like the devil," I actually laughed out loud in appreciation, and my adoration for Layne went through the roof. Side note: The only way to remove the "mark" that Massie leaves with her perfume is with water. See the swimming pool at the end of the story.
Since I haven't seen any severe bullying from Kristen, just occasionally laughing in response to Massie's bullying, I actually kinda felt sorry for her and all the pressure she was under. Even more so in the sleepover scene when they gather at Kristen's for the first time. Everything is all fine and dandy until Bean, Massie's dog who is just as vicious as her owner, attacks Beckham, Kristen's Persian cat, and Massie acts like it's a minor inconvenience. (I also like to put it as "Massie reacts to it like Trump to the pandemic: NBD." Still the same monumental levels of bullshit.) Wanna hear even MORE bullshit? "But boys are so in right now. And when something is hot, I always get two." I'll give you one guess as to who said that.
Excuse me while I stick my foot through the dishwasher.
That was less painful than reading this book.
I just have a couple more points and then I'll wrap it up. In the chapter where Massie is alone crying in her bedroom late at night because everyone blew her off except for Bean, she is selfish enough to only think about it from HER perspective and perhaps, maybe, possibly, there's a small chance, that SHE is the one pushing her friends away because she tells them when and how to breathe? That's explored in more detail in the next book, but this is just a brief glimpse of what's to come. Let's not forget how she called HERSELF the "one true expert" on whatever those self-help books and motivational speakers talked about, to which I responded "Bull to the shit!" You read it here first, guys.
My last point comes in the form of a paragraph quoted verbatim to the best of my ability: "Sure, Massie could have let Alicia choreograph the Socc-Hers, but then it wouldn't have been HER team. She could have released the hold on Derrington sooner, but she wouldn't have had a fallback guy if Dempsey chose LAYME. She could have been nicer to Kristen about her friendship with the LBR, but then everyone would have thought it was okay to keep secrets from her. And a good leader had to set boundaries." One more point: "She felt angry, taken for granted, and used." I don't know about you, but I sure as hell don't see it like MASSIE as the victim. If anything, it's the other way around.
Here's a little spoiler for the next book: the Pretty Committee has "fractured," and Massie has to fend for herself without the rest of her "gang." How will she do it? Not gonna lie, I hoped to God that the series would end there because she got so depressed that she jumped off a cliff and died and rotted in hell, but that was just wishful thinking on my part.
I’m only giving it a 4 for Dylan and Kristen who are objectively the superior members of the clique. Massie has become more and more insufferable as the series has progressed and this whole book was stressful. Still iconic though.
P.S I Loathe You PLOT: Massie is losing her iron-tight grip on The Clique. Dylan and Derrington (whose real name we find out is Derrick) start to fall for one another when discovering they have the same taste after getting sent to detention over a prank. Even though Massie is long since over Derrington won't release him from her grip because she hasn't secured her new crush and thus allowing no one to go after Derick. Claire after the events of the boy fast is now all over Cam all the time. Alicia tho clearly the best dancer of the group is pushed to second in charge when Massie starts a group of cheerleaders called the Socc HERS. And Kristen with the biggest storyline's loyalty is torn between helping her BFF Clique friend (Massie) and her BFF Witty Committee friend (Layne) acquire the love of Dempsey. Especially when she herself has feelings for Dempsey and has a boyfriend of her own Duane whose home from the island he left for to model.
My THOUGHTS: This book was VERY satisfying because even though the title describes perfectly my feelings for Massie (PS I LOATHE YOU) and really this series, it should be called the downfall of Massie. Let's review this bitch's insanity. She's so controlling she "physically" puts her claim on Derrick by spraying him with her perfume. She's so self-absorbed that she thinks HE needs to get over HER when Dylan had it right in thinking you need to get over yourself. Even though Kristen is one of her supposed "BFFs" and Clique members she looks down her snotty little noise about where she lives until she needs her to try to get next to Dempsey. Then she has the audacity to make keys to all their houses and private spaces like it's her right. Wouldn't the parents have something to say about this CHILD having a key to their houses? This (wanting to curse here) brat is a user plain and simple. Her moods switch up with the wind. She gets mad at Kristen for not stopping Layne from moving in on her "territory". Then at the beginning spouts this bs poem she made up about how they won't let anything get in the way of their friendship again and how they'll be there for each other 24-7. She picks and chooses when to be there for them, but if they aren't there for her 24-7 she gets mad and turns to the closest one she thinks is still loyal. Which they all do whatever they want behind her back and lie to her face. Then has the nerve to wonder what she's done wrong and try to justify her foul behavior because she rationalizes it's what they need. Which sounds like an abusive husband who beats his wife because he thinks she needs to be kept in line. Two of the greatest moments in the book came when Dempsey calls her "assey" and tells her that Layne is a better friend to Kristen than she'll ever be, and when Dylan reads her like a book and walks out of the PCC. None of the member's but Claire show up and leaves her there stood up and looking crazy. Claire is described in this at one point in always doing what she wants regardless and I thought to myself SINCE WHEN? Claire is more stuck up Massie's behind than the rest of the Clique. As we see she's the only one that stays. I was proud of Dylan in PS I LOATHE YOU, but slightly annoyed with her because while she's not as over the top ridiculous as Massie, but I am SO over her obsessing book after book about her weight. Chick, please! In this book, she even wonders if Derrick thinks a MANNEQUIN looks better than her! A MANAQUINN! I think the only time I really agreed with Massie was about Claire who didn't even exist in this book but the end. The rest she was in some kind of sappy, love, haze that I could have done without reading. That leaves Alicia and Kristen. Alicia and Dylan seemed to have discord in this book. Not that that's news for these backstabbing clique of phonies, but I can't remember from the last book why this was so it came off as a hunh? You would think after reading in the boy fast book that shows Alicia sneaking around with Josh she'd not be so quick to rat Dylan out. Or was Dylan the one that ratted her out? I don't care enough to go back and look that up so moving on. Kristen was the only one I gave a damn about in this. Why? Once upon a time, a LONG time ago I found myself in her shoes: dating one guy and realizing I was in love with someone else. It did NOT end well AT ALL! But I have a feeling that (well maybe I'm hoping) that to further add to the Queen B's fall Kristen will end up with Dempsey. Of course, this will cause strife with Massie AND Layne. But I'm not sure I liked Layne in this book. What is it about Layne's that turn out to be self-righteous bitches in books (BSC)? And I wondered why after the way Massie's treated Kristen (in this book alone) was she so upset and felt she owed Masie anything. I hope this series ends with them all leaving Massie. That would so be worth the time I invested.
RATING: 10. Just alone for how Massie gets read AND dumped in the end. If there were emoji's I'd put several of the party horns here!
One book, and three mentions of Gossip Girl (the TV series, that is) already. Considering it’s become one of my favorite shows, I was too surprised and easily amused. Here are the lines:
1. Chace? Penn? (Which refers to the actors who play Nate Archibald, and Dan Humphrey.)
2. The mention of Leighton Meester (playing Blair Waldorf) and how she was born in jail. (Although I’m not sure whether this is a fact or not because I thought I read in an interview that she said those were just rumors that magazines cooked up.)
3. Something along the lines of: the scene was hotter than Blair and Nate’s aqua-kissing scene.
So sweet. I absolutely adored the GG references. Mostly because they don’t mention Serena (nothing against the actress, but B totally outshines S!) and that the references seem to suggest a desire for a Nate-Blair coupling (which fitted my preference, that is, when GG was halfway through its first season.)
Personally, I'm a cat person so if Massie came in My house with that female dog, I would've jumped the girl. Greased up, ponytail, weave 'n knee! The girl tried it ... and she did not succeed. You don't go up in someone else's house and start bossin' THEM around. Ain't nobody got time for that. They had the courtesy to invite you their home. THAT AIN'T RIGHT!
Hey, Mass guess what: Derrick isn't into you anymore. Believe it or not, not everyone gives a flyin' flip about what you do. Little Leo, you are not the sun and the world doesn't revolve around you.
In the end I liked it. Honestly I have to admit that the "Cleats On Your Feet" cheer was pretty good. I'm glad that Claire was there for Massie, despite her absence throughout the whole book. I love how this book focuses on the most understated characters: Dylan and Kristen. I like how this series all together, especially this novel, teaches valuable lessons about friendship.
This series inspired a generation of middle school girls to think being mean made you cool, and that lying and scheming were legit social skills. In lockstep with their counterparts (designed for older and hopefully less susceptible audiences) Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl, these books glorify being skinny, white, rich, and materialistic by using the most extra and clunky similes and filling space by name-dropping brands.
This book was saved by my main bitch, Layne, who BARFED ON MASSIE on PURPOSE so she could ride a roller coaster with Dempsey. As a theme park employee, it made my heart sing. Also, the "Are you an X? Then why are you Y?" joke structure deserves an honorable mention. But my anecdotal evidence of the shitty impact of these books will not let me give this one anything above 2 stars.
This is probably one of my favorite Clique books so far. While most of the books had the problem totally resolved in the end (or mostly), this one left it open. Out of all of them, I as most excited to see what happened in the next book after this one. I also like how they used a lot more pop culture references in their similes and metaphors and in general speaking. Overall, it kept my attention, kept my guessing and I really liked it.
Once again, I do NOT care that these are aimed at young teens. I started reading them several summers ago when I was in the hospital, and got hooked. I get each one from the library as soon as it comes out. They're pretty dang addicting.
An excellent new direction just as the series had reached staleness. The pivot to Kristen and Dylan's perspectives, particularly after the summer collection, expanded our cast and provided some great insight into previously one-sided characters, who now have a lot to offer as contrasts to Massie and her reign of terror. They shine as two girls standing up to thier friend/bully. I enjoyed watching the power struggle and can see a sort of end game for the characters as they grow from middle school dilemmas into high school trifles. Of course, not a perfect series, but the cosmic karma of Dylan "winning" Massie's ex-boyfriend and Kristen "winning" Massie's current crush - amid other friendships falling apart because Massie has no room for sharing - was satisfying. Claire and Massie's friendship is in the background but tenacious as ever; Harrison's surprisingly eloquent paragraph detailing Claire's refusal to be anyone but herself from the beginning outlines the reason for this truest of Massie's friendships. It also included a delightful recap of everything that's occurred in the series so far - remember that time they went to Hollywood?!? - fitting for the 10th volume. This was the first book in the series I hadn't read and am experiencing for the first time on my reread; so everything feels like uncharted waters. Let's see if the lessons of this book stick with our queen bee...
This by far has been my favourite book of the series Massie coming to terms with maturity, changes in her life and friendships but also realizing how she shouldn’t trap herself in a role or change who she is to keep others around. Lisa did an incredible job displaying Massie’s change and growth in this book but also keeping her the same melodramatic diva she’s always been “Certain that people who lost their friends were expected to sob uncontrollably and that if she did, the PC would sense her despair and stampede toward her with open arms. But no matter how many times she pictured Bean getting hit by an SUV, her eyes refused to cooperate” I laughed out loud and thought that’s Massie that’s exactly who she is and I loved it it shows that although she’s growing and becoming more confident with who she is alone she also has those moments of falling back into her old patterns I’m really interested to see how she handles in the next book and now that the pretty committee has completely foiled down to Claire & Massie how that will change the dynamic going forward - Great read and I can’t wait to burn through the next book of the series!

This book was good but confusing because of all the love triangles? The alpha of the Pretty Committee is crushing on the same person as an LBR (in other words outsiders). Alicia ended up rebelling and starting her own cheering leading clique with her as the alpha. And Maussie the alpha of the Pretty Committee ended up with only one true friend (the one who she didn't try to control) and devastated. This book of romance is recommended for teens who have experienced dating or crushing at the very least or else this book would be fairly difficult to understand. And to me personally, this book was fairly confusing until three-quarter way through and I am a current a grade 10 (as of the time this post was written and the time this book was read).

hated massie. she deserves that ending about wtf is with her last statement 😑 girl, how about own up and say sorry? your girl never learned how to take mistakes and own up and apologize. wtf.
almost gave it a 1-star.. bumped it to 2-stars bec of that ending. if that was a HEA, this would have been 1-star. lol.
ngl, i forgot how this one ended. this reread definitely felt very freshly new read for me.
