On the planet Aqua, a world once known as Mars, Akari Mizunashi has just made her home in the town of Neo-Venezia, a futuristic imitation of the ancient city of Venice. In pursuit of her dream to become an Undine -- a gondolier who leads high-end tours around the city -- Akari joins as a trainee with the Aria Company, one of the three most prestigious water-guide companies in Neo-Venezia. There, she explores the beauty of the city and the world along with other trainees from Aria and rival companies, working hard for her dreams and making new friends along the way.
Experience the world of Aqua like never before with Kozue Amano's gorgeously detailed illustrations and full-color spreads in this deluxe collector's edition!
This is Volume 4 of this Masterpiece edition of the series.
Kozue Amano (天野こずえ Amano Kozue) is a female Japanese manga artist. She is widely known as the creator of Aria, which proved to be a best-selling hit, and was adapted into an anime television series consisting of 3 seasons and an OVA.
Bref, j'adore !
The next in the Aria the Masterpiece series and OMG it was gorgeous.
I was sad when I saw that I missed out on getting the ARC for this one. I normally keep a close eye on Netgalley so I cannot understand how I missed this one. Oh well, then I will read the separate volumes (as this one bundles volume 5 + 6) so I can continue with Volume 5 afterwards (as I got that one just now from Netgalley). I hope to one day add these books to my shelves, but I want to first wait until Tokyopop is truly done with them. I don't trust the American Tokyopop anymore with manga. *looks at her unfinished Aria series*
In this volume we go on the rounds with the mailman (this was such a soft story and I loved that people send letters to each other, I would love to do that too but sending mail isn't cheap here :(), we meet Athena whose voice I could just hear in my head despite not having watched or listened to Aria for some time (and then had me crying as I remember that Kawai Eri who sang those songs died way too young), I was squeeing when we got some Al x Aika moments, we meet a stranger who turns out to be a very friendly man and with whom Akari has a wonderful afternoon and I had totally forgotten who the man was so I had a big smile when he told her, we go back in the past and see how Alicia, Athena, and Akira trained together which I absolutely loved, I am always looking forward to more backstory, Venetian glass makes an appearance, YES MAA is there now too! I love that little furball! And of course there are many more soft and wonderful stories that filled my heart with warmth and made me very fluffy.
This time the seasons are autumn and winter. We see the change to winter costumes, we see the city turn to winter, we see snow begin to fall. I would have liked to see more seasonal events. Maybe next time.
Before I knew it I was through this volume. I didn't know what happened with the time, it seems to have vanished. The magic of Aria. Sweet wonderful and dedicated characters, friendship, tons of beautiful scenery, Venice of course which is one of the most magical places and I can honestly say that I love the manga more now that I visited Venice myself on my honeymoon.
I would highly recommend this manga (and anime) to everyone. It is absolutely gorgeous and you will feel all fluffy inside.
Lavish illustrations as always...the cat episodes felt surreal yet good. Sad also with the confirmation the original Venice is very much underwater on Earth (which the real Venice is in danger of) in the manga's universe yet the narrative itself still has a positive outlook bend.
This book was the last of the series that had been translated during the original publishing, so finishing it had me really looking forward to what was next! The best chapters in 4 are Canzone, Orange Days, Snow White, and Night on the Galactic Railroad. Athena is my second favorite character in the series, and Eri Kawai's Barcarolle is required listening while reading Canzone. Canzone could get a whole in-depth literary analysis on its own, between Alice's left hand "training" and meeting Athena and seeing everything through Akari's eternal optimism. What a gem! Orange Days makes me cry, Snow White going in even more depth about just how wonderful Alicia is/the idea of "being an expert at enjoying everything you do". And, of course, Night on the Galactic Railroad just fully embraces the fantasy and surrealism of Neo-Venezia. The stamp on Akari and Aria's foreheads the next day is one of the most bubbly moments in the series!
Again, absolutely wonderful story, art and characters. This is where we meet the other two water fairies as well, which I thought happened earlier in the series. I adore this series, and never findit boring, though it is mostly slice of life. I love these new covers as well, but I do wish we had the old covers as extras, as they were lovely as well. If you want a relaxing read, this is a must!

The beauty of this manga is the way it captures quiet moments from everyday life. There’s no action or high-stakes plot, but the story focuses on how the characters interact and how they cherish each other in ordinary circumstances. It’s just a very thoughtful manga where “normalcy” is not boring but instead enriching and fulfilling.
this continues to be just stunningly beautiful, especially the faces/expressions (Alicia is breathtaking), and the stories are not just sweet, but thought-provoking and include facts about Manhome Venice as Neo-Venezia is explored. Aika is still my favorite. also, Martian cats are weird. adorable, but weird.
Another peaceful, relaxing, beautiful, fun volume with more secrets and history of Aqua being revealed. The color pages are simply gorgeous! It makes me wish there were full color versions of this book.
