Toddlers will have fun and learn about sounds and textures with these interactive concept books, warmly illustrated with meticulous detail by Alan Baker. Sticky honey, rough toast, fluffy towel, bristly toothbrush, and somebody's furry tail poking through the cover...there are seven new and exciting textures to discover with Little Rabbit as he makes the rounds of his house, eats his supper, takes a bath, and gets ready for bed.
Definitely a toddler/preschooler book, pushing the beloved Little Rabbit characters to a younger audience. My 4 year old enjoyed reading about Black and White Rabbit trying to go to bed, and we both like the humor; but the short sentences and tactile pieces target it more for the 12-36 month group. A nice transition-to-bed story for the youngest set, but probably more appealing to those who are already exposed to White Rabbit's Color Book, Brown Rabbit's Shape book, Black and White Rabbit's ABC, Gray Rabbit's 1-2-3, etc. (A much more successful effort than the Farm book, for instance.)
This story is a touch and feel book. It follows the bunny getting ready for bed. He eats dinner, takes a bath, brushes his teeth, gets into bed, and goes to sleep. I would use it for kindergarten because it is texture heavy for all the actions. It also is something that they can relate to because that is typically what they do, and the pictures are descriptive enough that they know what is happening without it being read to them every time they look at it.
