Irresistible chemistry and thrilling suspense combine in this electrifying new installment in New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’ Argeneau series
One hundred and twenty-five years is a long time to nurse a crush. That’s how long it’s been since Beth Argenis first met Cullen “Scotty” MacDonald, and he instantly became the star of her most X-rated dreams. Back then, he was rescuing her from a Rogue Immortal. Now Beth’s a Rogue Hunter—a damn good one. She doesn’t need saving anymore, despite what Scotty thinks. What she does need is the fierce, wild desire that finally erupts between them.
Scotty has hesitated to claim Beth as his own. But one explosive kiss confirms what he’s long suspected: She’s his life mate. But Beth is tough, fearless, beautiful…and in immortal danger. Unless he wants to lose her forever, he’ll have to rethink everything he once believed about love and destiny as well as confront an enemy who’s terrifyingly close.
LYNSAY SANDS is the nationally bestselling author who is known for her hysterical historicals as well as the popular Argeneau/Rogue Hunter vampire series. With her witty and charming personality, Sands describes books as, “Waking dreams or stories, tales to amuse, entertain and distract us from everyday life.” She’s been writing stories since grade school and considers herself incredibly lucky to be able to make a career out of it. Her hope is that readers can get away from their everyday stress through her stories, and if there are occasional uncontrollable fits of laughter, that’s just a big bonus. When a series is still going strong when it is over 25 books in, you can’t help but admire the author’s writing ability and creativity. Sands has abundance in both and the Argeneau series displays them to the reader's delight.
Beth had a rough beginning so when the ancient “Scotty” comes to her rescue 100 years past, he felt it prudent to give her time to adjust to her new life before he claims her as his mate. 100 years later, Beth is an accomplished hunter in no need for rescuing. Just then Scotty returns and so does all her fantasies and dreams of the magnificent specimen of a man.
Scotty wants only the best for Beth but he doesn’t realize that his ideas make Beth feel he regrets the person she’s become.
Immortally Yours is fraught with miscommunications, sexual tensions, and profound suspense.
I received this ARC copy of Immortally Yours from Avon. This is my honest and voluntary review. Immortally Yours is set for publication September 26, 2017.
My Rating: 5 stars Written by: Lyndsay Sands Series: Argeneau #26 Print Length: 373 pages Page Numbers Source ISBN: 1473221552 Publisher: Avon Publication Date: September 26, 2017 Sold by: HarperCollins Publishers Genre: Paranormal Romance
Wow well I wasn't expecting this! This book is part of a very long running series that for this reader is hit or miss. Why? Well truthfully they never really feel that 'paranormal ' to me and actually feel much more like a contemporary romance that usually has some suspense or even angst it. I'd originally purchased the first six in paperback as I'd seen so many recommendations and then I fell out of love with these stories and wanted something with more atmosphere and bite! Yet I've continued dipping in and actually was quite impressed with the recent mad scientist idea but alas this book isn't really carrying that idea forward but instead gives readers established immortals who really need to sit down and have a conversation! It was fun meeting Scotty and a few of his fellow uk enforcers although admittedly at times his accent did grate on me. He's been a tad naughty and kept a secret from Beth that is finally about to come out. You would expect Beth to be overjoyed to finally have her own life mate but as she's always thought he disliked her and constantly tried to stop her being the person she wants to be you just know that Scotty has an awful lot of explaining to do. Here is where the author really hooked me as this couple have both previously had life experiences that have helped to shape them and there is no quick and easy solution but instead an awful lot of honesty and awakening. Yes there's quite a lot going on around this couple and I loved the newer Russian contingent that are introduced but please can we have the mystery man who turned Scotty as I'm pretty sure he has a story to tell. Bottom line I really enjoyed this story and happily recommend to others This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
3.5 stars, but I'm round up to 4 because I loved, loved, loved Scotty and how over-protective he was, even though he was acting like a twit some of the time.
Alright peeps, this is my first Lynsay Sands book..
Okay, that is kind of a lie. I'm pretty sure I have tried to start her books before and not been able to get into them. So I will re-phrase.
Peeps, this is my first time finishing a Lynsay Sands book!!
I know, I know!! I'm pretty proud of myself too!! I tend to give up really early on these books if they don't peek my interest right away. I'm not sure what it is, but for some reason some of these long time romance authors don't suck me in to their stories instantly. I find myself zoning out in the first 20%. But...... When they hook me, I'm usually stuck to the end. Even if the book isn't their best.
That is exactly what happened in this book. I did the audio and I'm not 100% sure I actually absorbed most of the first 20%, but once I got in and started getting invested I was totally entralled. I even had to force myself to go to bed last night. Which, when that happens it is an automatic 3.5 stars for me. As I have said before, I need to be entertained. You can writing a pile of shit and if I'm entertained I'm happy.
This book is basically a big ole pile of miscommunication, and assumptions between our two characters. But I enjoyed the shit out of it for some reason. There is a definite suspense trying to figure out who is trying to kill Beth (and yes most of you will figure it out pretty easily, but it is still fun to see if you are right).
And can we just take a minute to talk about Donnie - my gawd that guy is a mess and hilarious. There is a chapter where he has coffee for the first time as an immortal and I was dying.
Also, for the long time readers of this series. I have a very serious question....
Does the post life-mate sex pass out ever stop?
I mean, my husband does love him a power nap after, but I feel like passing out for 2+ hours after sex would make me contemplate having a mid day quickie.
There are some mild triggers in this when Beth talks about what she has gone through at a mortal (but I'm pretty sure that it is not new to anyone who has read this whole series). Her life was not easy and after hearing what she lived through, I loved that girl even more.
In all, this was a solid audio that kept me hooked once I got into it. I'm definitely going to continue with this series. Especially, since I have the ARC for the newest book (yay!) and want to read a couple more before diving in.
Well, Lynsay Sands truly amazes me that she can write so many books in one series and every one of them is fresh and new. Immortally Yours was different from other stories in the Argeneau saga in that they both knew what being Life Mates entailed. This in no way took away from the story, it did make it more interesting since you didn’t have to go through the drama of explaining exactly what an Immortal is. But, there was drama.
Scotty is one arrogant Immortal. He knows that Beth is his life mate and will do whatever it takes to protect her. He can’t help it. He’s an 800-year-old former Laird and used to making all decisions. He has been keeping tabs on Beth right from the beginning without her knowledge. Now that it is time to claim her, he finds that he still has some misgivings. He has to come to terms with his past, her past and the present before he could make her his. He also needs to find out just who it is that is trying to kill her.
Beth is a very independent woman. She is positive that Scotty does not like her in the least. He’s never been nice to her. She knows that he tried to stop her from becoming a Hunter. She knows that he doesn’t accept her past. What she doesn’t know is that she is his life mate. She doesn’t know about his past and what is holding him back from claiming her if it’s true. She does not believe that the accidents she seems to be having are all threats on her life.
As things heat up between the two of them and they get to know one another, Scotty sees what he has been pushing away and knows that Beth is nothing like his mother. His mission now is to get her to accept their future, agree to be his Life Mate and stop the lunatic trying to kill her.
I love Lynsay Sands and never tire of reading her stories. The Argeneau series has intrigued me from A Quick Bite right through Immortally Yours. Like I said, she knows how to write fresh and exciting stories that keeps you invested in the story. I was sad that Aunt Marguerite and Lucien weren’t featured in this book but, I got over it quick because Beth and Scotty were so interesting. I enjoyed the introduction of some new characters and look forward to where she is going to take them.
I received a copy of this title to read and review for Wicked Reads
3.5 stars.
I read Immortally Yours as a standalone, as I haven't read the Argeneau series since the very beginning books, eons ago. I wasn't overly confused in the beginning by doing so. Obviously I didn't have past books to put the characters in perspective, but it started off as most UF/PNR books do, so it was easy enough to understand as a standalone. However, I may have enjoyed it more if I was caught up on the series, and had the foreshadowing and past connections to add more layers and emotion to their story.
Beth is a hunter for the Immortal Council (there's a lot I missed out on due to not being caught up, and I didn't rate the book on this, as that's my bad, but it was easy to surmise the world-building after reading many UF/PNR series) Beth is a kick butt and take names heroine. After being immortal for the last 120+ years, she's strong with flaws and saves herself, and has a tragic past.
Scotty is ancient by comparison to Beth. With his thick Scottish brogue, it was humorous trying to figure out what he as actually saying. I enjoyed it, others may have found it a bit much. Other than his accent, I didn't enjoy Scotty as a character. His actions/reaction/how he treated Beth (shaking my head while muttering no underneath my breath).
Without ruining the plot, there is a ton of manufactured angst by immortals who are 120-800 years of age, yet their actions and reactions didn't seem to mirror the maturity they 'should' possess. Miscommunication, holding back, talking around things yet never truly saying what you mean... all as a means to 'draw' it out.
The romance between these two mates spans decades (a century even), so maybe I'm missing out on information from past books. Scotty has known Beth was his mate from the very beginning but left her alone to 'heal' from the traumatic circumstances- Beth's doing well, so why is Scotty still avoiding the obvious? There were predictable story threads outside of the romance dealing with rogues and whatnot, but the romance is front and center.
I found Immortally Yours to be an enjoyable, light read, and thoroughly connected to Beth. She's strong, knows what she wants and how to get it, doesn't bow down to Scotty and do as he says. But she also was rational, never displaying the TSTL tendencies that plague UF/PNR. However, I felt Scotty's 'suggestion' to be so far off base that it kind of ruined the romance for me... just something about his character rubbed me wrong.
I highly recommend for fans of the series and author. My rating does not reflect on the fact that I read it as a standalone, or that I didn't enjoy Scotty as a character. The rating is based on my entertainment/enjoyment factor, and I needed a bit more plot-wise.
In Immortally Yours we have a story that continues on with this fabulous vampire series that can still make me laugh and entertain me fully. In this story. And wow, has this series just grown and grown and it still amazes me that this author can bring a story that is lively and make me smile all the way through.
In this story, we have a story of two people that are fated to be together, but due to certain circumstances aren't together. Our hero and heroine have known each other for centuries, but when our heroine was turned, it was a very traumatic experience and our hero Scotty, didn't let her know that they were lifemates. He thought she was way too young and he struggled with certain decisions she had made in her "human life". In Beth's mind, she has always thought that Scotty hasn't liked her even. Wanting her to lose her memories from her human life, and not supporting her being a rogue hunter. But when Beth's life is put in danger, Scotty is her guardian. He refuses to leave her side while they figure out why they want Beth's life.
At first in Immortally Yours there are some big miscommunication that comes into play between Scotty and Beth here. We see the way that they have a very vibrant connection to each other, but Beth doesn't realize it at first. For about the first half of the story, Beth doesn't have good thoughts for Scotty. They do have some unresolved issues that they have never really discussed. You understand why that has happened though, so it wasn't a huge issue for me. However my real problem I had was the hero. He was a bit self righteous at times, of course, the way his mother was, you can understand why. But at the same time, I just couldn't understand why he was so judgmental of the heroine at times. Other than that though, I had a blast with this book. The heroine was quite frankly....awesome. She could kick ass, spirited and funny. She definitely knows how to handle Scotty even in the worst of times. Once Beth and Scotty resolve the past with each other, then their relationship really goes more deerper and the romance between them really blossoms.
Immortally Yours is a spirited and thrilling tale with a bite....its a romance that will make you laugh, gives you tingles up the spine and keeps you on edge!
When I made my change over to Kindle, this was one of the 3-4 series I had in paperback that I kept. Those first 8-10 books were amazing, funny, and just plain entertaining. The series has never reached that level again sadly for me.
This was another Rogue Hunter novel and the romance was more frustrating than interesting, the mystery was done well and I only figured it out shortly before we knew who it was but the main thing here is that it was a decent 4 Star novel, for awhile there I was sure it was going to drop to 3 but it did pick up a bit but still nothing like those first books I loved.
The romance was confusing and frustrating most of the book, the mystery was done well in that there were not any real TSTL moments. Really it could have been another series altogether it was so disjointed from those early books.
Bottom Line: It was good, it was entertaining but not exceptionally so and it was nothing like those laugh out loud books that hooked me into this series. 4 Stars for a good story and keeping the "whodunnit" until the end.
I really torn with this book. I really like Beth. She lived a crap life, one bad thing happens to her after another, yet it didn't jade her too much, she was content in her life and her place in it, had good friend and a great job. Scotty on the other hand was an ass for most of the book. I hated what we learned about him, how he kept away from Beth, even knowing what he did, how he made Beth feel with his deeds. Beth deserved a guy that was so much better.
The whole drama of what was happening to Beth was blah, you could tell who was behind things early on. I found myself more intrigued by the girl that Beth mentored than the romance.
I enjoyed Scotty and Beth's story. Scotty has known for years Beth is his life mate. He hasn't claimed her because he was waiting for her to heal. He has stepped back into her life 125 years later to protect her and possibly claim her. Beth is a Rogue Hunter. She doesn't feel she needs Scotty's protection. She can defend and protect herself from an enemy out to kill her. From the first kiss, the chemistry between them explodes, but the miscommunications keep them apart. Scotty has a few personal issues he must resolve before he can claim his life mate.
I throughly enjoyed this novel. Scotty and Beth seemed perfect for each other. The assumptions and miscommunications between the two got a bit frustrating at times, but in the end, everything works out. The plot is a traditional romance plot. The mystery behind who Beth's enemy is kept me guessing throughout the story. The setting and descriptions seem authentic. I look forward to reading the next novel in this series.
This was a good story but I had some mixed feelings about the hero and it cause some vacillation over the final rating. Regardless of any mixed feelings over this story, I will be continuing the series.
**Spoiler warning...I'm going to give some info on Beth & Scotty's past and what Scotty did that I really didn't like**
Beth is an Immortal and is around 180ish years old total, 125 after being turned. She works as an hunter for the Immortal counsel, taking out rogue Immortals that break the rules that all Immortals have to follow. Beth was turned by a rogue and was saved by Immortals. She was in a bad place after her rescue but she's turned her life around and is doing well now.
Scotty is an Immortal and over 800 years old. Scotty was the son of a Scottish lair and was turned by an unknown Immortal who felt responsible for a fatal wound...Scotty doesn't think it was a rogue but he never found out who it was. Scotty is the head of the Rogue hunters in Europe and was part of the team that saved Beth from the rogue 125 years ago.
Beth didn't have a good life. She had been sold into prostitution by her father at the age of 10 and it took a long time for things to get to a good place. When she was an old lady, she and some friends were targeted by a rogue Immortal that turned them. Beth went through hell and when it was over, she hadn't done anything to harm others so she was allowed to live as an immortal. She'd been a bit out of it when she was first rescued though and Scotty (who was part of the rescuing team) thought she should have a mind wipe, thinking the trauma of what she'd been through was just too much for her to handle. He couldn't read her but thought it was because she'd lost her mind. Beth's mind wasn't wiped and she didn't see Scotty for a while...until she applied to become a rogue hunter in Spain and that was just for him to show up to object to her admittance into the program. What she didn't realize is that with that close proximity, Scotty realized she was his lifemate.
Scotty didn't claim Beth right away because she was still angry and messed up about her life. It's only been in the last decade that Beth has been able to leave behind the anger and other destructive emotions plaguing her. I could accept Scotty backing off until she was in a better place. Unfortunately, when he showed up this time, Beth thought he hated her because in the past he'd always been brusque to her and seemed to glower at her. She just didn't realize it wasn't hate but his attempts at restraint. This misunderstanding caused problems because Beth thinks the worse of Scotty when everything comes out...before Scotty can tell her himself.
I could accept all this and found that I really liked Beth and was even liking Scotty. But then he tried again to get Beth to get a mind wipe! I could accept this when he thought she was nuts from what the rogue did to her but to suggest it now, after she'd come to terms with everything just seemed really fucked up! He said it was because he didn't want her to have to live with all the terrible memories of her past but really??? Now that she's doing good he wants to wipe her mind? I was pretty shopalled (shopalled = shocked + appalled) that he'd even suggest that after she'd done so well at turning her life around. So, that definitely took things down a bit for me and had me questioning Scotty's mental capacities. Thankfully, Beth is more than willing to stand up for herself and made it quite clear that he was being an idiot. Once Scotty realizes his idiocy, he and Beth are able to work things out so they end the story heading towards a HEA together.
The story itself was pretty enjoyable...before Scotty pulled his crap, I was thinking very good thoughts about it on a whole. And regardless of everything, I still really liked Beth as a heroine. She wasn't bitchy and could be laid back but she was more than willing to stand up for herself when it was needed. The non-romance story wasn't too major but it was interesting enough to help keep the story engaging. Overall, I would recommend it (if you can deal with Scotty's idiocy). :)
* note - I listened to the audio of this story and the narrator did a very good job.
Another enjoyable paranormal romance in the Argeneau series. A good plot with plenty of action that moved right along. The heroine was the strong one in this relationship. A different twist on claiming life mates and still incorporating the immortal race. Scotty leads rogue hunters in UK and goes to Canada because he has a feeling that his life mate Beth is in serious trouble.
I love paranormal romance, especially vampires, so it was pretty crazy that I hadn't read Lynsay Sands yet. And yes, I am coming in on the 26th book in the famous Argeneau series, but I quickly found that it wasn't a problem at all. No need to be caught up to understand what is happening here!
The Story- Scotty has known Beth for over a hundred years, back when she first became a vampire. Only now is he ready to claim her as his life mate, but with her life in danger, it's proving a little difficult to do that.
My Thoughts- Sands can write a freaking action scene! I could picture every fight, every detail perfectly. So many times, I have some trouble imagining what is happening, but Sands makes it play like a movie in my head. Scotty is a hottie (c'mon, I had to), and his devotion to Beth is sigh-worthy. This book went super fast; I couldn't quit turning pages. The best things about this book are the characters, the action scenes, and the pacing. The small quibbles I have are the bad guy (a bit cliche and meh) and the long monologue descriptions of the characters' backgrounds. I absolutely LOVED those backstories, but I wish I had been able to see them play out via flashback or something. Maybe prologue? I don't know, but the stores are sooooo good that I hate that they were relayed simply through monologue. Those issues aside, I enjoyed the world of Argeneau vampires and am convinced that Sands is one of the better paranormal writers out there.
The Bottom Line- Sands is firmly on my paranormal list now, and I plan on going back into her back catalogue for some more Argeneau vampires. Is it terrible that I wish she would write some historical paranormal, kind of a prequel for this series? 4 stars
(RabidReads.com)Lynsay Sands Argeneau series, is simply put, a fun time. I know I say that every time I read one, but it’s true. I have been reading them in a kind of weird order, starting at the end of the series first and then continuing on from that point-and also, going back to the beginning and reading some of those as well. I find the oldest ones to be lighter in tone than the newer ones. The newer books are more exciting with plenty of action. All of them feature some humor and lots of romance. This one is book 26 and was definitely exciting, full of action and romance, and had some humorous moments as well. So it fit right in.
Beth Argenis is a highly trained rogue hunter. Rogues in this world are immortal vampire like beings that once turned, go off on their own, indiscriminately turning humans and feeding off and killing humans. Beth is immortal and was also turned, not born to this world, around 125 years before. She is beautiful and looks to be in her mid twenties. She’s headstrong when it comes to saving innocent humans from rogues. Scotty MacDonald is of course, from Scotland, but came to Canada recently to help out the Argeneau family since so many of their people are out on assignment. He’s known Beth since she was turned and shows up in her life quite often. He’s a fierce rogue hunter and any time he’s around, Beth has X-rated dreams starring him. As he does about her as well. This is what life mates do. Beth is seemingly unaware of this, but Scotty is over eight hundred years old and he is well versed in life mates. He also has no intention of claiming Beth anytime soon. And he does have his reasons, however poor they are. There’s also plenty of other characters featured this time. Donny, a young trainee rogue hunter, served to add quite a bit of humor to the story. An immortal, affluent Russian princess with human feeding issues is also introduced. Good Characters!
This time around, Beth is being targeted by someone and gets put into lots of bad situations. While this is going on, the hunters are also being tasked with problems they have to take care of or get rid of. Through it all, Scotty tries to ignore Beth-all the while trying to keep her safe at the same time. At times, I really wanted to throttle him!
As always, I enjoyed the romance and the back story of Beth was pretty fascinating to me as well. The story took us back into history and that really added to this installment for me. Sand’s world building has always been interesting to me, with the use of Atlantis for the reasons behind their immortality. She doesn’t do a big info dump, but manages to work just enough information into the story for those people newly reading about this world. Very much appreciated by me!
An immortal reluctant to claim his life mate, a mysterious villain determined to kill Beth, dangerous cases that the group is working, and great characters, all came together to form this good read, or in this case, listen. Narrator, Michael Rahhal, did an amazing job with accents and his female voices were actually quite well done. One particular funny scene featuring Donny and coffee was done so well by the narrator that I was laughing out loud. So narration was a five star for me.
This series is a must read/listen for me. I am slowly adding books to my tbr pile and will keep reading them until I am able to catch up. There are some series where that wouldn’t be that easy of a thing to do, but this one is a breeze for me. I know that when I start one of these I will be entertained and at times kept on the edge of my seat. Highly recommended to adult paranormal romance fans-adult due to steamy scenes and violence. Thank you to Harper Audio for a copy of this in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Definitely better than the last few Venezuela and capture stories but the humor was mild.
I sit here and sigh as a potentially really good PNR is once more invaded by the mediocre and predictable mystery/conflict and idiotic crazy person. This was a little less predictable than some of the Argeneau books. But for the characters to not to look in that direction or predict it themselves was just pure stupidity. Well, even without knowing the whole story, I got who it was, even with the annoying person trying to butt in.
Lynsay Sands has been writing the Argeneau series since I first started reading paranormal romance -- in fact, my Navy roommate let me read Sherrilyn Kenyon's Fantasy Lover, and the next day I went out and bought a ton of like books, of which Single White Vampire was one. I've kept up with the series ever since, and one of the main aspects of the books that keep me coming back is that I largely don't know what to expect. Will it be a thriller like Immortal Hunter? A romantic comedy like Once in a Vampire Moon? A drama that cracks open the series like Vampire, Interrupted? There's always a mystery, but there are different shades of darkness to the books. Immortal Unchained, the book before this one, was an Island of Dr Moreau type horror romantic comedy.
This one, Immortally Yours, was dark and funny and romantic and more emotionally complex than some of the others. I would put it up there ALMOST with Vampire Most Wanted. It's runner up to Vampire Most Wanted in Darkest Backstory in an Argeneau category. And Lynsay Sands has given the couple an interesting romantic background as well.
All in all, I would say that Sands continues to write fun and refreshing and dark and wonderful stories about the Argeneaus. I can't wait for Twice Bitten!
Exciting, comical, and passionate, Immortally Yours was another winner from Lynsay Sands in her popular Argeneau series. But what else would you expect from an old fashioned former Scottish Laird as the hero and a brave & fierce heroine with a sketchy past?
I have such fun with Lynsay Sands’ books but the Argeneau series is probably my favorite out of everything she’s done. (Although her historicals are a riot as well!) I have a soft spot for paranormals anyway, but the way she mixes humor in with deeper emotions and pairs up characters in unexpected situations, it’s magic. And in Immortally Yours we had a couple who seemed quite different on the surface but when it got right down to it, they were a beautiful match. Read More
This is one of my go-to series when the long bleak winter starts getting at me - I need something to warm me up and make me giggle. Sands always delivers just that. I know that many may oppose to the "neverending" type of series because they may become repetitive which is only partly true - yes, it is full of heat and it always ends well and yes, the author always makes great funny situations as well as thrilling action parts but she realy tries to bring out different aspects in people and build their back stories so that someone (like me) who actually read all those 26 books is still happy to come back because the obstacles faced by the leading couple are always unique. So relax, curl up on your bed, have a cup of hot tea in your hand, and jump right in. ;-)=
I’m sorry to say that this will be my first and last book by Linsay Sands. These are the silliest vamps I’ve ever read about. The heroine, Beth, is great but Scotty our hero is kinda’ stupid. Through the first 65% he couldn’t get over the fact that Beth was a prostitute 125 years ago. OMG, really? The only thing they had going for them was sex and he had her thinking that that was all he wanted from her, that he didn’t want her as a life-mate because of the prostitution thing. AND it’s not like she went into the profession willingly. Her father sold her when she was 10 years old!
It’s all too stupid. So much angst over her thinking he didn’t want her and him stressing over her being a prostitute in another life. Just page after page of that nonsense. Another book that didn’t have to be close to 400 pages. Anyway, I skipped chapters and skimmed to about 85% and it got a little more interesting. I did want to know who was trying to kill Beth. The entire book was all about who was trying to kill Beth and all the near misses she made it out of.
The only thing that kept me listening/reading this long was Donny, he should have been in it more. Holy crap, he was so funny. Especially after he drank some coffee, to see how it would affect him. And the narrator was simply awesome in how he had Donny sounding.
There was sex, sex, and more sex, in this book. And the F-bomb wasn’t used at all, but “feck” was, as well as “heck” and “cripes.” Good grief, what kind of words are those in a vamp book?
As to the narrator: He was super! Michael Rahhal did a wonderful job on Beth’s British accent and Scotty’s Scottish accent. His voices were great as well as his emotions. I will definitely see what else he has narrated.
I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.
The Characters:
Beth Argenis: Cullen “Scotty” MacDonald: There are people but I waited too long to write this and now I don’t remember any names *insert face palm emoji here*
The Story:
I love Ms Sands writing. Always a fun and funny tale with a side of smex. This story is no exception. A rich backstory for an Argeneau cousin and her life mate that was willing to wait for her. They both had some things to overcome but I think they did so well.
The Random Thoughts:
-I think Beth should totally make her Immortal dating app. -Kudos to the narrator for flawlessly executing all of the accents.
I started reading this series on recommendation of a co-worker. However, this is where I will stop reading this series. I am bored with members of the Argeneau family popping up from who-knows-where and finding their lifemates. I am bored with rogue hunting. Surely that's not the only occupation of these vampires? In the beginning, rogues were barely mentioned. Now every vampire is a rogue hunter. I am already reading a series where there are vampires hunting rogue vampires and searching for their lifemates. And I only read it out of habit because I really, really want to find out how the overarching plot ends. This series has no overarching plot, just a bunch of Argeneaus hunting rogues and finding their lifemates. So I am done with this series.
Plot: 4/5 Characterisation: 5/5 Prose: 3/5 How much I enjoyed it: 5/5
The book takes a step back from the new arc of the series as it takes place in the same time as the previous book. While we get the usual bevy of rogue hunters, the book introduces us to a few people from the UK Council & Rogue Hunter as well as Russia Council and how the immortals from other places differ in their rules.
The plot in itself is simple. Having read through the series, you can spot the villian easily.
What I enjoyed the most is having the H/h know each other for a long time instead of the usual insta-lust. As much as I understand how the world works; life mates can't resist each other when they find them, it does get tiring when most of the romance in the series happens within a day or two.
Well... this story had quite the serious issues to be dealt with. Both protagonists and the "villain" had emotional baggage to last for more than just one book. I don't think this is a problem, for I like books that aren't just comic reliefs. However, considering the type of stories this series is based on and the usual page limit, the subjects were a little too serious to be solved in such fast-paced type of plot. I don't think I got to really connect with the main couple and the way their relationship evolved felt too superficial for the kind of issues they are coming from.
I still enjoy this world so much. A Lynsay Sands book is always an entertaining one for me (which is a good thing, because these books are an auto-buy).
