The first in a series of 6 books, based in Iron Age Briton. A fantasy tale of Lauren, who is time-shifted from the 21st century, back 2000 years. She has to cope, and fast, if she is to survive. She meets Madeil, a female warrior and pairs up. Lauren is well equipped to manage, having studied ancient weapons and warfare, is good at archery and martial arts. She shows outstanding bravery on a patrol, capturing a clan Chieftain. Yet she saves him from execution, and after negotiations and great risk to her life, saves the situation. But worse things follow, and her party is decimated in a forest battle, her and two friends manage to escape. They live for months in a forest, barely surviving, hunted and needing to flee for their lives. A winter cave offers protection, but they are found again and move on. Eventually they journey to a far-off hill fort to rescue their friends who have been enslaved by a brutal clan Chief. They barely escape by the slimmest of margins and find them selves back in the forest with an army pursuing them. Continued
DNF - This book seemed right up my alley, but I could not even finish it. I pushed through quite a bit but it just seemed to go nowhere. The writing was fine, it was just slow and I was bored.
