Quinny and Hopper are unstoppable. Together, they tamed a killer chicken, broke the Third Grade Rules, and proved to everyone that they could be best friends. But Hopper has doubts that anyone--even Quinny--can save him from his impending doom: a surgery removing tonsils he is really, really not ready to part ways with. To help Hopper overcome his tonsillectomy fears, Quinny decides to reveal his birthday surprise early: a trip to a museum where they'll get to see a real brain up close and personal. Hopper needs something to live for. But Quinny is torn when her sometimes-friend, sometimes-enemy, Victoria Porridge, invites her to the most amazing party ever on the exact same day. Quinny and Hopper are back in this hilarious and heartfelt sequel about friendship, changes, and staying true to yourself.

Five years ago I first met Quinny - always talking, and Hopper - quiet and shy and knew I had found a new chapter read-aloud for my 3rd grade classroom. It was a huge hit. The class loved the characters and the plot. They love Henrietta's lessons. We could relate to how Quinny had to deal with her younger sisters and Hopper had to deal with his older brothers. It was perfect, but sometimes when I share a book and it is perfect, I have a hard time sharing it again. I've recommended Quinny and Hopper to a couple of readers, but I didn't sell it well.
That's about to change! Now that I've finished the 2nd book, and been reminded of the richness of the characters - all of them Quinny and Hopper and their families, but also Victoria, Mrs. Porridge, Grampa Gooley, Mrs. Yoon and even the The Meanie Substitute - and the spot on plot that all children are dealing with - how to be truly yourself and make everyone happy with who you are - I know kids need Quinny and Hopper. They need to chuckle and laugh, they need to gasp and sigh, they need to know they are not alone. Can't wait to move the 3rd Quinny and Hopper to the top of my TBR pile - the other books need to wait.
Another great installment of adventures for these two crazy kids! Bedtime reading has never been so fun in our house. The hilarious one-liners that stick with you well after the story is over and the lessons that are taught are easily translatable into real life for the kids reading it. As soon as we finished, my daughter immediately asked if we could buy the next one. I love how excited she gets and how much she's learning from Quinny and Hopper's trials and triumphs. It's heartwarming!
With a title like this, I had no trouble enticing my 8 year old son to check it out! Fortunately, the story was as fun and captivating as the title, and he's tickled that we found this series. Thanks Disney, for sending a review copy!
Not quite the charm of the original, but well worth the read, which stands alone nicely. I love the different voices, Quinny & Hopper so well written. Quinny is so spunky, wild and crazy, gotta love her when she has insightful moments - adds heart to the book. True life lesson for everyone on page 247: "sometimes you have to let go of what you thought would happen", says Mrs. Porridge, "and live the life that's actually happening ... the life you're in."
