Super good - wonderful characters and a great story line - not the run-of-the- mill plot. Since I have read all of Edwidge Danticat's books about Haiti it made this book even better - lots of overlap history - I'd suggest reading her novels first.
I did not care for this book, the story was interesting and it is one of those tales where the characters lives are all intertwined somehow. The violence and sheer brutality in this book were hard to read to the point that I considered putting the book down. This was the only book that I have ever done that with. You will learn a lot about Haitian politics and voodoo culture in this book.
Not so hot. It reads like a short story padded to book length. Characters that waltz in and out of the story for no good reason and a lack of action. Tired premise. Not recommended.
