They came. We conquered. And then our world began to end. Again. You may think you’ve heard Marion Thomas Nelson’s story before, but you’ve only heard one version. This is how it happens the second time. In this America, Marion’s life is turning a dark corner. His wife is shrinking. His son, too. Only he and his second child, a girl with the same faulty gene as Marion, are exempt. This is not how it’s supposed to be. This is not how he remembers it. Some things are the same. Manzanar’s dusty gates open the way they did before for its new influx of internees. But there’s a mysterious forest near the old war camp that doesn’t belong. And soon there’s a deadly game being played in its depths. A game where the ultimate prize is freedom. Which reality—if either—is true? And how can Marion break free and stitch his torn family back together? The answer lies with the aliens who came and went. The aliens who never fully left.

Another mysterious and intriguing story in this unusual series...I hope there will be a book three?

It's as disturbing as book one, and though there are a few answers not everything is resolved. It says it's a complete series but it's not and book three - Average - is meant to be coming soon (but this book was published in 2016). Disappointing if it's been shelved.

However, it's very well written with super characters and a compelling plot.

Highly recommended - but please finish it.

This book is even better than its predecessor, "Tall" because it tells its own story, while also filling in some blanks about things that happened in, "Tall". For example, we find out more about what Carla was doing while Marion was away. This book is like an alternate reality version of the first one. Is it a parallel world? Is it a reset? Is it something we can't understand yet?

This book starts more or less like the first one. We learn about the alien invasion and are filled in a little bit more about what happened. There were things hinted at in "Tall" that are explained in "Small" and makes that book even better when you go back and look at it. I wonder if the author wrote these books at the same time because it must have been difficult to just give a tiny bit of information in the first book (that you might even overlook), knowing you would expand on it in the second book and keep the two consistent.

In this book, people start to get smaller, which is even more terrifying when you think about it. Getting taller has its own problems, but getting smaller means thinking about yourself disappearing from existence, as if you never existed in the first place, and watching your children "un-grow" in front of your eyes.

We learn more about the aliens, and I think we find out their motive for coming to earth, but I'm still not sure about that. There seem to be certain people, such as Marion, Carla, and the reporter who have certain memories of the other existence, more of a feeling of deja vu. The aliens seem to be able to manipulate reality--IF any of what is happening is real. I think some of it is and some of it isn't.

Things run fairly parallel to the first book, but the end results can be very different. For instance, Marion and Jane are taken away again to a former Japanese internment camp, but what happens there is very different than what happened in the first book.

I have to stop there. Once again, buy both of these books. They both have my highest recommendation and now I have to wait for the third one to come out, "Average". I can't wait.

Loved it, can't wait for AVERAGE to come out. I wanna know what happens, because the main characters are so close to figuring it out.

Change of pace from the norm, must read TALL first and kudos to the author for coming up with basically the same premise of story without it being a repeat. Very impressed. Almost a total change of POV. Great writing, worthy read.
