The content of this piece covers Enoch’s journey through the multiple heavens, meeting the angels Gabriel and Michael, Enoch instructing Methuselah and his other sons on moral and ethical lessons, which he had written out in 366 books and which he eventually passes on to Methuselah and his other sons, so that his teachings wouldn’t be lost and finally, Enoch’s eventual assumption into heaven. This is essentially the sequel to the fabled Book of Enoch.

About the author

Robert Henry Charles (1855–1931) was an Irish biblical scholar and theologian. He left parochial work in 1889 to devote himself to biblical research and became the greatest authority of his time in matters of Jewish eschatology and apocrypha. He became a canon at Westminster Abbey in 1913 and archdeacon there in 1919. His books include Eschatology (1913, 2nd ed), Between the Old and New Testaments (1914), and his edition of The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament. (1913). He is known particularly for English translations of apocryphal and pseudepigraphal works, and editions including Jubilees (1895), the Book of Enoch (1906), and the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs (1908) which have been widely used. Among his other publications are The Apocalypse (1920), Divorce and Nullity (1927), and The Resurrection of Man (1930). He was educated at the Belfast Academy, Queen's College, Belfast and Trinity College, Dublin. He gained a D.D. and became Professor of Biblical Greek at Trinity College.

خنوخ که بود؟

خنوخ بنابر اشاره‌ی سِفر پیداش، یکی از مردمان درستکار زمان خود و از نوادگان مستقیم آدم و حوا (نسل هفتم) و جد (پدرِ پدربزرگ) نوح بود. بنابر روایت کتاب‌مقدس خنوخ 300 سال با خدا راه رفت و با او زیست و در سن 365 سالگی بدون انکه مرگ را تجربه کند به آسمان برده شد

خنوخ شصت و پنج سال بزيست و متوشالح را آورد. خنوخ بعد از آوردن متوشالح، سيصد سال با خدا راه مى رفت و پسران و دختران آورد. همه ايام خنوخ، سيصد و شصت و پنج سال بود؛ و خنوخ با خدا راه می‌رفت و ناياب شد، زيرا خدا او را برگرفت. پیدایش 5: 21 تا 24

در عهد جدید نیز یک‌بار بطور مستقیم و یک‌بار بطور ضمنی به خنوخ اشاره شده است. پولس در رساله به عبرانیان از خنوخ به عنوان یکی از الگوهای ایمانی نام می‌برد و اشاره می‌کند که آنچه باعث نجات و رستگاری خنوخ شد، ایمان عظیم او بود

به ايمان خنوخ منتقل گشت تا موت را نبيند و ناياب شد، چرا كه خدا او را منتقل ساخت؛ زيرا قبل از انتقالِ وی شهادت داده شد كه رضامندیِ خدا را حاصل كرده است. عبرانیان 11: 5

تمام آنچه در مورد خنوخ و روزگار او در کتاب‌مقدس آمده به همین چند آیه محدود می‌شود. اما تمام کتب باستانی یهود مشمول در کتاب‌مقدسِ پذیرفته شده از سوی کلیسا نیست. رازهای خنوخ یکی از کتب غیرمعتبر و به اصطلاح کلیسایی جعلی ،معروف به سوداپیگریفا (یعنی مسیحیان و یهودیان آن را به عنوان کتاب وحیانی نپذیرفته‌اند) است که ماجرای ربوده شدن خنوخ توسط فرشتگان و سفر در هفت آسمان و رویارویی با خدا را روایت می‌کند. تاریخ نگارش کتاب را با توجه به اکتشافات باستانی دریای مرده بین قرن 3 پیش از میلاد تا 1 میلادی تخمین زده‌اند. معراج‌نامه‌ی رازهای خنوخ اگرچه از لحاظ مذهبی اعتباری ندارد، با این وجود با توجه به قدمت 2300 ساله‌ی آن، اگر به مثابه‌ی یک متن ادبیِ باستانی نگریسته شود جذابیت خود را داشته و اطلاعات ارزشمندی را به خواننده منتقل می‌کند

رازهای خنوخ درباره‌ی چیست؟

در این کتاب خنوخ پس از ربوده شدن، به مدت 60 روز در آسمان سیاحت می‌کند و علوم مختلفی را فرا می‌گیرد و سپس برای مدت 30 روز به زمین باز می‌گردد تا دیده‌ها، شنیده‌ها و فراگرفته شده‌های خود را به فرزندان و نسل خود منتقل کند و آن‌گاه برای همیشه به آسمان برده می‌شود. خنوخ در این سفر آسمانی هفت طبقه‌ی آسمان را مشاهده می‌کند، با فرشتگان گوناگون و وظایف آن‌ها آشنا می‌شود و در گفتگوی مستقیم با خدا، چگونگی پیداش زمین و آسمان‌ها و خلق انسان را فرامی‌گیرد. باقی کتاب را اندرزهای اخلاقی تشکیل می‌دهد

نقاط قوت کتاب

پیش‌تر به این موضوع اشاره کردم که مهم است به این کتاب از چه منظری مورد توجه قرار بگیرد. در صورتی که از منظر اسطوره‌شناسی نگریسته شود موضوعات جالبی می‌توان در آن یافت: توضیحاتی در مورد ساز و کار سیستم الهی و هفت آسمان، اشارات بسیار به فرشتگان و وظایف آن‌ها، چگونگی خلق هستی و بخصوص انسان. چند موضوعی که به چشم من در کتاب جالب آمد

علت نام‌گذاری آدم: هر کدام از 4 حرف(/آوا) تشکیل دهنده‌ی نام آدم، از حرف اول نام یکی از ستارگان اصلی به عاریت گرفته شده
شیوه خلقت آدم: هفت بخش و هفت طبیعت
گریگوریان: سربازان آسمانی سقوط کرده که همراه شیطان طغیان کردند و سپس در آسمان پنجم زندانی شدند (گریگوری در زبان یونانی به معنای شب‌زنده‌دار است)
ریشه‌های فلسفی یونانی: در دو قسمت ردپای فلسفه‌ی یونانی در عقاید نگارنده‌ی کتاب دیده می‌شود: اول- در جایی که باغِ عدن را مکانی میان وجود و عدم / بقا و فنا نام می‌برد. دوم- در بخشی که می‌گوید نور از نور زاده می‌شود سوم- در جایی که می‌گوید خدا پیش از خلقت، طرح چیزهایی نامریی و مریی را آفریده بود. بنظر می‌رسد این موضوع بی‌ارتباط با مثل افلاطونی نباشد
شباهت با اناجیل: در چندین بخش، بخصوص در اندرزهای اخلاقی شباهت‌های چشم‌گیری با تعالیم اخلاقی عهدجدید وجود دارد
اشاره به مسیح و آموزه‌ی تجسم: در 32: 1 و 2 رازهای خنوخ نوشته شده که "به او گفتم تو خاکی و به خاک که از آن گرفته شدی بازخواهی گشت. آنگاه خواهم توانست در دومین آمدنم، دوباره تو را از خاک برگیرم". در جایی دیگر نیز خنوخ به فرزندان خود می‌گوید یک‌بار خدا پس از آفرینش به روی زمین آمد و در دومین باری که به روی زمین بیاید انسان را از آن(خاک) پس خواهد گرفت. این موضوع منطبق با اشاره‌های عهد جدید است. بنابرآموزه‌ی تجسم و فدیه خدا به روی زمین امد تا انسان را نجات دهد (عقاید راست‌کیشانه‌ی مسیحی) یا آنکه از شیطان بازخرید کند (عقاید گنوستیسیستی)
نام بردن از ققنوس یا فونیکس: فونیکس یکی از ارکان خورشید است

پایان کار خنوخ چه (خواهد) شد؟

رازهای خنوخ اشاره‌ای به پایان کار او نمی‌کند و می‌گوید او برای همیشه به آسمان برده شد. کتاب‌مقدس نیز به همین موضوع بسنده می‌کند، اما در مکاشفه‌ی یوحنا در عهد جدید بدون نام بردن، اشاره‌ای به خنوخ (و ایلیا) می‌شود. بنابر تعلیم کتاب‌مقدس (و همینطور رازهای خنوخ) پیش از آغاز ابدیت، تمام مخلوقات فانی خدا باید نابود شوند. بنابراین برای شروع آخر‌الزمانِ مسیحی، خنوخ و الیا، دو انسانی که بدون تجربه‌ی مرگ جسمانی به آسمان برده شده‌اند باید دچار مرگ جسمانی گردند. در کتاب مکاشفه در این مورد نوشته شده:ه

من دو شاهد خود را مامور خواهم ساخت كه يک هزار و دويست و شصت روز نبوت کنند. آن هنگام که آن‌ها نوبت خود را به پايان رسانند، آن حيوان وحشی كه از چاه بی‌انتها می‌آيد با آنان جنگ خواهد كرد و آنان را شكست داده و به قتل خواهد رسانيد. نعش‌های آنان در خيابان آن شهر بزرگ كه به كنايه سدوم ناميده شده، خواهند افتاد. همان جايی که خداوند آنها نيز مصلوب شد. به مدت سه روز و نيم مردمان از هر امت و قبيله، از هر زبان و ملت بر اجساد آنان خواهند نگريست و نخواهند گذاشت آنان دفن شوند. به خاطر مرگ اين دو نفر تمام مردم زمين خوشحال شده، جشن خواهند گرفت و به يكديگر هديه خواهند داد، زيرا اين دو نبی تمام مردم روی زمين را معذب می‌ساختند - برداشت آزاد از مکاشفه باب 11

کتاب خنوخ

خنوخ قبل از حضرت نوح بود و چند نسل با حضرت آدم فاصله داشت
به روایاتی گفته می شه که خنوخ همون حضرت خضر یا ادریس
خنوخ به امر الهی و توسط دو فرشته زیبا و تنومند به
اسمانها رفت آسمان یکم و دوم را دید در آسمان سوم
عده ایی را دید که ساکت بودند و می گریستند خنوخ پرسید این ها کیستند؟ در پاسخ گفتند: این ها کسانی هستن که به خدا شرک ورزیدند و رئیسشان در آسمان پنجم زندانی است
آن ها از خنوخ خواستار دعا شدند تا نزد خداوند برای آنان دعا کند
خنوخ در آسمان پنجم رئیس آن دار و دسته را که شیطانئیل نام داشت ، دید !
خنوخ آسمان ها را یکی یکی بالا رفت تا آسمان دهم
جبرئیل نزد خنوخ آمد بعداز جبرئیل میکائیل آمد
خداوند به یکی دیگر از مقربان نزدیکش فرمود قلم و کتابی بیاورد تا خنوخ همه چیز را در آن مکتوب کند و به فرزندانش بگوید
خنوخ میگفت من چهره خدا را دیدم!

در طول کتاب تنها خداوند به خنوخ فرموده بود به انسان ها نیکی کنید آن ها را نیازارید به یتیمان کمک کنید بیوه زنان را دریابید ، و در آخر امر شده بود که در روز سه بار خدا را یاد کنید
نکته مهم در این نوشته بالا این مورد که خداوند خوبی و پاداش بهشت را تنها در نیکی به آدم های دیگر می دانست
برخلاف ادیان امروزی که خلاف این امر را انجام می دهند
خنوخ در 365 سالگی عروج کرد و به آسمان ها رفت.

رازهاى خنوخ

خنوخ کیست؟
خنوخ (یا: اخنوخ) نزد اهل کتاب یکی از پیامبران پیش از توفان نوح علیهالس م است که علوم وکتابهای فراوانی را به او نسبت دادهاند. علمای اس م وی را با حضرت ادریس علیهالس م که خدای متعال وی را در قرآن(1) مجید ستوده و به معراج او اشاره کرده است، برابر میدانند. واژه خنوخ در زبان عبری به معنای «آزموده» است. نام وی حدود 44 بار به لفظ اخنوخ و چندین بار به لفظ احنوخ، احنوح، خنوخ، خنوح و... در کتاب بحارا نوار آمده است و
صحیفهای منسوب به او در جلد 95 آن کتاب وجود دارد

A prophetic book written in a similar style as the prophetic books of Ezekiel, Daniel, and John's Revelation, the book of Enoch, if authentic, would be another great testament to the foresight and truth of the prophetic spirit of God in his people.

In the book of Genesis mere mentions of Noah's great grandfather, Enoch, and his life and times are made. This book would not only fill in the gaps, but extensively elaborate on those mentions. With the fall of rebellious divine beings/angels, creation of the Nephilim, prophecies of God's people from Enoch's time all the way to the coming of pre-Son of man, Jesus the Messiah, and accounts of the birth of Noah and the coming deluge/flood this book is chalked full of relevant information for those studying the origins of many prophecies and biblical presuppositions.

Interestingly, Enoch prophesied that it would be 70 generations from his generation that the resurrection of the dead and the final judgment would take place. He is the sixth generation from Adam, and Jesus approximately had 76 generations from Adam to himself, according to Luke's gospel. Which should put the prophecy of the final judgment and resurrection of the dead within the generation of Jesus. An interesting note for those that hold a preterist (Especially Full preterist/Covenant Eschatology) perspective.

The R. H. Charles translation was an excellent read, with the King's English vocabulary, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"And now let me exhort you, my children, to love righteousness, and to walk in it; for the paths of righteousness are worthy of acceptation; but the paths of iniquity shall suddenly fail, and be diminished."

This book is about the genesis of reality, and this time is told through Enoch's journey.

Enoch is taken through the 10 levels of Heaven, to look at God's face and pass down the wisdom through the generations that have passed through him.



In the midst of the heavens I saw armed soldiers, serving the Lord, with tympana and organs, with incessant voice, with sweet voice, with sweet and incessant voice and various singing, which it is impossible to describe, and which astonishes every mind, so wonderful and marvellous is the singing of those angels, and I was delighted listening to it.

These are the archangels (1) who are above angels, measure all life in heaven and on earth, and the angels who are appointed over seasons and years, the angels who are over rivers and sea, and who are over the fruits of the earth, and the angels who are over every grass, giving food to all, to every living thing, and the angels who write all the souls of men, and all their deeds, and their lives before the Lord’s face; in their midst are six Phoenixes and six Cherubim and six six−winged ones continually with one voice singing one voice, and it is not possible to describe their singing, and they rejoice before the Lord at his footstool.

And those two men lifted me up thence on to the seventh heaven, and I saw there a very great light, and fiery troops of great archangels (2) , incorporeal forces, and dominions, orders and governments, cherubim and seraphim, thrones and many−eyed ones, nine regiments, the Ioanit stations of light, and I became afraid, and began to tremble with great terror, and those men took me, and led me after them, and said to me:
- Have courage, Enoch, do not fear, and showed me the Lord from afar, sitting on His very high throne. For what is there on the tenth heaven, since the Lord dwells there?
- On the tenth heaven is God, in the Hebrew tongue he is called Aravat

And the Lord sent one of his glorious ones, the archangel (4) Gabriel, and he said to me: Have courage, Enoch, do not fear, arise before the Lord’s face into eternity, arise, come with me.

On the tenth heaven, which is called Aravoth, I saw the appearance of the Lord’s face, like iron made to glow in fire, and brought out, emitting sparks, and it burns. -

Thus in a moment of eternity I saw the Lord’s face, but the Lord’s face is ineffable, marvellous and very awful, and very, very terrible.

And I fell prone and bowed down to the Lord, and the Lord with his lips said to me:
- Have courage, Enoch, do not fear, arise and stand before my face into eternity.

And now, Enoch, all that I have told you, all that you have understood, all that you have seen of heavenly things, all that you have seen on earth, and all that I have written in books by my great wisdom, all these things I have devised and created from the uppermost foundation to the lower and to the end, and there is no counsellor nor inheritor to my creations.

I am self−eternal, not made with hands, and without change.

If I turn away my face, then all things will be destroyed.

Give them the books of the handwriting, and they will read them and will know me for the creator of all things, and will understand how there is no other God but me.

And let them distribute the books of your handwriting–children to children, generation to generation, nations to nations.

From the invisible he made all things visible, himself being invisible.

Thus I make known to you, my children, and distribute the books to your children, into all your generations, and amongst the nations who shall have the sense to fear God, let them receive them, and may they come to love them more than any food or earthly sweets, and read them and apply themselves to them.

And they made a great feast, rejoicing and making merry three days, praising God, who had given them such a sign through Enoch, who had found favour with him, and that they should hand it on to their sons from generation to generation, from age to age.

Again the record has a bunch of random additions by other authors and confusion by its Slavonic transcriber on one word for several concepts and uses (which is understandable), but where you can get to the heart of what was originally said, this is an amazing work to have access to in the modern era.

Very interesting reading, but not easy to read. Charles’ or even Laurence english translations of the ethiopian Enoch offers a better reading. Great book though on more detailed aspects of God’s creation, and more.

What an interesting read! So much different from the Ethiopic Book of Enoch. I liked the many wise and good beatitudes in conveyed and the story of young Melchizedek was thought provoking. I’m very glad I read it!

It's an informative book generally in synch with the Bible. Since its an apocryphal book, you imbibe its contents with caution and careful references with the Bible.
