Twenty-Seven Years in Alaska is the story of one woman's adventures in the remote wilderness of the north. From canoe camping next to unnamed lakes, to kayaking in Alaska's pristine waters, she describes her many encounters with the bears, moose and other animals that make this wilderness their home. With her partner David she helped to build a cabin on a remote piece of property, off the grid and accessible only by boat. Illustrated with the photos she took along the way, her story is sometimes comic, and sometimes tragic, but throughout its pages she speaks with the voice of one who loves nature and the wilderness.

I am always looking for non fiction books on Alaska and Alaskan life. This book is more about encounters with animals, which I do like to read, but I also want to know how they survived in the wilderness, and it would be nice to hear stories that people tell of their own adventures in life.

I am hoping that I am not getting these following stories mixed up with the last book I read. A woman chase's mousse out of her yd with a shovel. What is she thinking? Bears like to get on top of people's cars to sleep, leaving a big dent in the roof of it. The author hiked up a hill and sat down on a rock where she was going to write in her notebook. Losing her pin she left the notebook where it was and climbed down the hill. When she looked back up, hey grizzly bear was sniffing her notebook. I would never want to live in Alaska.

I love Alaska. I should've been born there. This book had a lot of interesting stories, but I feel like it lacked some depth. I would've liked it to have had a little more substance. It's mostly a fun read about camping trips.

Fun little vignettes of life in the North Country. I enjoyed the adventures and her casual writing style, but the content lacked real cohesion. It was often repetitive and seemed better suited for a newspaper or magazine column (and it would have definitely been a fun one) than a book. Left me smiling, though, and what else can ya ask for?

Good read, pretty lite and easy to follow.
I laughed at a few of her "misadventures" but know that to have enjoyed the 27 years (for the most part) she had to have had good survival skills.
