What happens in this house is a dark tale of three close siblings. Joy, Jasmine and Jackson all endured some of the most twisted and wickedest things inside of their home. Growing up in a small town in the south by the name of Canton, Mississippi. There was a saying that kept the secrets hidden for years. When sudden death comes upon their father Jack. The three siblings reunite and all of the dark secrets finally comes to the light. The old saying goes What happens in this house stays in this house.
This book is hard for me to review because I have found myself with competing feelings about it.
It was interesting enough that I was able to read it in one sitting and care enough by the end to purchase part two BUT it was also so much going on that it felt overwhelming at times. There were also portions of the story that were so unrealistic I wanted to throw the whole book away and lastly the formatting is non existent which is another uphill battle in this read.
However,
Despite my negatives, it was interesting enough if that makes sense. Joy, Jackson , Elijah and Jasmine have some tough roads ahead of them with all that has unfolded and been revealed. I’m really hoping part two and so on are worth the read.
My name is K Sherrie, And this is just my opinion.
I got this book for free and still feel like I spent too much on it. Grammar, punctuation, plot, everything was bad. Who ever edited this book should be fired. The writer needs some basic English classes. There is no continuity. The characters are poorly written. This is definitely a case of getting what you pay for.
WOW!! This author definitely deserves the 5 star rating because she created believable characters and an exciting, if nothing else, story to be sure. I read the book basically in one evening and there was never a dull moment, except grammatically and from a type setting perspective. The book needed more editing to say the least but moreover the spacing typesetting was all wrong!! The words appeared in inconsistent places on the pages throughout the entire book and often interrupted the flow of the reading of the book in the worst way and try as I might I couldn't help but become distracted by the visual of the text. For everything that the book lacked in editing the author more than made up for in her telling of this heart wrenching story. I found it was true to the African American deep south culture in decades past but also peppered with family dysfunction that is timeless and no respect of person in culture, ethnicity or socio-economic standards. What a sad but real life tale. The ghosts, souls and hauntings could be questionable in many ways but also believable to some of us in others. I am interested enough in what this author has to finish saying enough to purchase part two of the story despite the poor editing. Come join me, you won't regret it!!
I entered into the world of crazy! This book is not what you think. I thought that I was about to read a little Street literature. Instead, I stepped into the world of abuse, incest, spirits, lost and found children, I'm a lesbian certain times of the month, hubby on the down-low, baby daddy is my daddy, and I got a eating disorder.
I couldn't put the book down, I laughed, shook my head, and called Jesus! finally I threw my hands in the air and said what the hell could happen next? yes, I will be reading book two in the series. I have to! The author threw so much craziness out there, that I have to know where she is going with it.
The best storyline was Carmen’s story. There were so many spelling mistakes, missing words/articles, and the flow was all over the place. I wanted to like it. I will say this - it spoke of generational curses and untold abuse that are sometimes overlooked in homes where trauma exists and persists. More educators should be aware of the sickness in which many children live every day - social emotional well-being is critical. Children become adults; sometimes sick adults. The mother (Pauletta) broke my heart- the toll the beatings took on her health... I never knew.
The lack of proof reading before going to press was a huge distraction from the story.Capitalization, misspelling of words, incorrect punctuation, lack of even paragraphs caused sentences to be incomplete. A real disservice to the author to not have a professional editor.
When Jasmine, Joy and Jackson learn of their father's death, they are forced to face secrets and lies that went on behind the walls of their childhood home. Everyone's world is turned upside down and things only seem to be getting worse as more secrets are revealed
Omg!!!!!! This book is a different type but it had me hooked from beginning to end. So hooked that when I noticed there was 2 additional parts I re read part 1 and 2 just so I wouldn't be lost. Even though I re read part 1 and 2 it felt like I was reading for the first time. This is a must read in my opinion.
This is a book that encourages breaking cycles. I enjoyed it. When you marry someone, it is so important to know their past because it can affect their future. I’m glad Carmen left. She deserved better. That took a lot of strength. This is a true example of “you don’t know a persons story.”
I have heard the words of the title all my life so I downloaded this book. The book was good. There were some grammatical errors and the formatting was off but I enjoyed reading this book and the sneak peek at the second book. Thanks for an interesting and free read.
What a great read. It had me turning page after page. Family secrets are exposed. That old saying "what's done in the dark eventually come to light" should have been the title. Talk about a dysfunctional family. Daddy Jack was a sick sadistic individual.
Interesting read about mental and physical abuse by a father and the effect on the family. Simply written, it could have been better developed, but it did capture the realities of such abuse.
Can't wait till part two. Carmen is gonna find out how strong she is. Joy has her hands full with Elijah and his baby. Jasmine got a big shock but will overcome. That house scares me!!!
No editing whatsoever. It is obvious from page one. There is so much work needed on this that I cannot even begin to honestly review it as a book. Hopefully the author will work diligently to hone the craft before another publication.
This was a disappointing read for me. The grammatical errors were frequent and a lot of the occurrences happened too quickly to be believed. Especially where it came to the newly developed relationship between Elijah and Joy. I don't think I want to read the other installments.
This novel started off interesting but I quickly lost interest. I was expecting the intensity to grow as the book progressed but that didn't happen. The story line was good, but I expected the story to seem less rushed.
This is something that I am not used too. Makes you wamt to be there to help this family. Very good read. About to read book 2. This surely keeps you on your toes. I recommend you read the series for yourself. I
This book was so amazing it was so hard for to stop reading. When I was getting close to the end, I swear I was taking my time. I did not want the book to end I wanted more add more let there be a secret chapter lol. It’s a must read book.
Too many grammatical errors cost this book a star. Careful, you might shed a tear or two with this one; nicely developed characters with an entertaining plot. A good, quick read.
Mystery, suspense and thrillers are usually not my choice of reading. This was so so good. This book has so my unexpected turns and there are book 2 and 3 waiting for me. Awesome. I' m going now for 2.
It was ok. It seemed a bit rushed towards the end. Its safe to say that I may read book 2 in order to see what happens with Jackson in relation to him trying so much not to be like his father that he seems to be heading down the same road his father did.
This was an interesting read.I don't really care for books that are based on horror but this book turned out to be a book that I had to keep reading because I had to find what the end would be
I stopped reading this three pages into the book. Since I am convalescing, I decided to try to muddle through. Worse decision ever. Numerous types. No actual plot.
So much happened in what seemed to be a little bit of time. It was a quick read. I don't want to read part two but I do want to know how Juicy makes out....
This was a book thAt kept me engrossed however if your sensitive to topics about spirits and after life I wouldn't read it. Wish that was addressed in the synopsis.
It was a great book with interesting twists and turns keeps you wanting more read the book within a few hours. Was not able to put the book down until I completed it.
