After getting a tip from a New Orleans psychic, Poppy Montgomery is on a solo road trip crusade across Texas to find an effective treatment for her anxiety fueled turned euphoric out of body experiences previously labeled as panic attacks. The attacks cause (sober) Poppy to fade in and out of consciousness, doing and saying questionable things, such as asking strangers for illicit drugs.

With a myriad of misdiagnoses from bipolar disorder to a gluten allergy, Poppy’s resurrection appears bleak. On her way back to Dallas, she meets a hitchhiker who informs her about Contin Farm, a community of upper-class heroin addicts who began their decent into the depths of heroin addiction at the hands of their providers.

Contin Farm’s owner, Ocielle, is a famous drug lord heiress with Dissociative identity disorder, and the ultimate codependent who wants to keep the addicts sick to prohibit her debilitating fear of being alone. With connections to high grade heroin just across the border, the mostly young, attractive residents are required to do chores such as: clean the Contin Farm mansion, attend to the family tiger, or pick up Ocielle’s Bergdorf Goodman orders if they are to get their fixes Ocielle hoards kilos of.

Set in present day in a West Texas ghost town near EL Paso, the Psychological thriller Contin Farm presents the lives of haunting, complex characters with great potential if they can get sober in time to avoid being buried in the Contin Farm cemetery, especially when the opportunity for recovery presents itself.

Unique, quirky and oddly fascinating

This is unlike my usual choice of subject but my daughter had a lot to say about it, so I decided to check it out and found a surprisingly good read. Excellent character depiction, good plot and a surprising cliffhanger that left me looking forward to the rest of the story - definitely not my usual reaction. Great job!
