This series is pretty cute. It's like the Stephanie Plum books but less crazy-funny, and also she picked a guy right away. None of that Joe/Ranger crap that irritates the hell out of me. Just pick a guy already, Stephanie! You're so stupid that you're lucky anyone will have you!
Yes, I'll still read the next one, but I'll hate myself for doing it.
Izzie is our girl and she's a food taster for rich people who are worried about being poisoned. In this one she has a client that is in a wealthy circle of Real Housewives competing to get their nude photo in their charity calendar. In years past, the contenders have had all sorts of mysterious ailments show up to knock them out of the competition. It's dog-eat-dog with these rich bitches.
At the same time Izzie is trying to prove that someone is innocent of murder. She has help from her old-lady neighbor. As is the case in these kind of books, this old lady is eccentric and carries a big gun. Whatever...
Speaking of old ladies, you could easily read these books to your grandma out loud. They are squeaky clean. Izzie has a romance, but it is a "cut to black" type of thing. There is also no cursing at all. I don't know how I feel about these things. What if they make me wholesome again? What if I stop cursing? What if my long-lost hymen tries to come back? I don't need that kind of crap in my life. I hope this series isn't going to be a bad influence on me. Maybe I'll read some side porn. Just to keep it real over here.
Despite its cleanness, I'm enjoying the series for now. I'll continue on. Maybe I'll cuss out an old person to make sure I keep my edge while I'm doing so. I know, I'll use "ok Boomer" in a sentence tomorrow. That'll show em.

Poor Izzy, all she wants to do is spend time with the luscious Conner and do her job, which involves eating. Of course she is eating all the delicious food to be sure it's not poisoned, but, hey, the food is good.
Meanwhile, Mr. Black is accused of murder and Etta wants Izzy to help her clear his name. Even though Izzy thinks he may be guilty. 😊
This book is as funny and entertaining as the others in this series. I love a murder mystery with some humor!

Not as good as #1 and #2. Etta, the quirky septuagenarian next-door neighbor, is a good character in small doses. She takes over the book here and puts Izzy into incredibly dangerous situations.

My review will be about this installment as well as the bonus Christmas story that was at the beginning but us also its own short novella.
It's the holiday season and Izzy is looking to spend Christmas alone with Meow as a companion because she can't afford to go home to Australia. However, Connor decides they should spend Christmas together with him and his family. At the end of the last book he decided he wanted them to be some semblance of a couple. The family dinner ends up being an almost disaster because Izzy almost accidentally gave his family poisoned cookies and Izzy and Connor ended up having to figure out who they came from.
It was cute and led into right into the next book where Connor and Izzy are struggling to be a real couple because even though the sex is good, Izzy is having trouble getting used to Connor not opening up more with her.
"Somehow you manage to find the humor and humanity in any situation life throws at you. The world's a better place when I catch a glimpse of it through your eyes. "
Add to that, Mr. Black (aka Bruce the Bruiser at first) ends up being framed for a murder he didn't commit and Etta takes it upon herself and Izzy to solve this case and prove his innocence.
It was really slow going for me at first coming from the last two books that were constant action and hilarity. A lot of the first half was mostly in Izzy's head stressing about one thing or another. By the second half however things really picked up and I was cracking myself up because Etta is the most intriguing, badass old lady I've ever read.
"The earth must be a more interesting place in your mind than mine."
I was able to guess the bad guy this time and there was a whole side story with another shade that I didn't think was really necessary to the overall story but I enjoyed it nonetheless and plan to continue the remaining 3 books in the future.

Fun series that keeps getting better. Izzy and Etta get together to clear Mr Blacks name. What could go wrong? Lots! And you'll love it just like me. Looking forward to more Izzy and Etta adventures. Oh, and more Connor!

August 26, 2019I could not read a book where the "victim" is the same guy that threatened to beat the heroine in the first book for her loan debt and then scaring the living crap out of her every scene thereafter. There was just no way the author was going to save this character for me, and let me tell you, she really tried. Gave his family a horrible backstory and turned him into a complete wimp, but none of that let me forget who he was in the first book.

Izzy Just Keeps Getting Better!
Working as a Shade for the top secret Taste Society is like being a bodyguard for poisons to the rich and famous. Not all attacks are life-threatening, though, as Izzy's current short-term assignment can attest: her job this time is to protect a shallow, image-obsessed society queen bee of the exclusive WECS Club from being sabotaged during the two weeks before a high-status, competitive photo shoot.
The WECS Club could have been the birthplace of the saying "with friends like these, who needs enemies?"
The assignment is stressful enough, but then Izzy's septuagenarian neighbor, Etta, drags her into an urgent mission to clear Mr. Black of a murder charge... even though all evidence points to him.
Meanwhile, there's the ongoing mystery of the sexy Connor. He's saved Izzy's ass on many an occasion (as well as having a mighty fine one himself), and they've finally gotten together, and she's even met his family, but the dratted man won't communicate!
The strong, silent type definitely has its downsides...
Throw it all together, with plenty of breaks for espresso and cookies, costume changes, cars, and snark, and mystery, of course, and you've got Poison is the New Black. It will keep you reading and laughing, and it may make you hungry, to boot.
I think Chelsea Field has hit her stride. I hope she has a lot more of these to come!

2.5 stars.
It's a good thing I'm not in the mood for romance right now because this really has very little romance in it. And to be honest, the H still isn't that likable. And I know he's trying, but he's just a bit better than an automaton in this book. And the kicker is that the h is starting to grate on me. While I adored her, for the most part, in the past two books, her utter inability to stay out of trouble is annoying. And her compulsive people pleasing is starting to take on a doormat quality.
I enjoy the readability of the writing, how clean it is (no sex scenes or profanity), and how there is never any OP drama, but the h needs to become smarter for me to be willing to continue on with this series for much longer. I have hopes for book four. :)

Injuries, murder and a set up.
Much better than the last book. I just realised that this series is supposed to be humorous - hmm. A great plot with her working another case of high society wives that pull out all the stops against each other including light poisons that make you ill to slightly more dangerous ones. However third greatest weapons are the words they use against each other with deadly accuracy. Then her special investigator is acting even more withdrawn then ever and her bully boy Mr Black has been charged with murder. Yes he agrees that he roughed up the man as per his employer's instructions but he didn't shoot him. Now she trying to juggle everything, her senior neighbour is her partner in their investigation of the murder and she's met the family of her new boyfriend. Add in specially designed drugs, a fire bomb, a serial killer and a reckless senior. Will they work out who the killer is? Will her new assignment end well? Will his family like her?

Engaging and funny – I recommend you check it out
This is the third book in the wonderful Eat, Pray, Die series by Chelsea Field. This book is just as funny and suspenseful as the previous 2.5 in the set. ‘Poison is the New Black’ has more romance than the others, although it’s not explicit.
Is this worth my time and money? Yes, it’s an enjoyable book and well worth the cost. You can read it as a stand alone, even though it’s in a series. I am fond of the main character, Izzy. She’s smart, kind, and someone you’d like to invite over for coffee and comfort food.
If you've not read any books in this series, here's the scoop. The main character, Isobel (Izzy), works for the Taste Society. It's a secretive company, employing 'shades' to secretively taste their wealthy clients food for poison. Her boyfriend, Connor, is a coworker who investigates criminal wrongdoing. Connor's more 'by the book' while Izzy follows her gut. Together they make an entertaining couple.
This mystery begins the day after Christmas. Izzy’s current job is protecting her socialite client, Vanessa. Izzy’s nemesis, Emily, is working at the same social club. Emily’s set on undermining her rival.
Vanessa is competing to pose in a charity calendar. Her peers actively sabotage each other to win a calendar spot. That leaves Izzy not only watching Vanessa’s food, but also watching her back because of Emily’s schemes.
The main plot starts as Isobel's neighbor, Etta, convinces her to help prove her friend innocent of murder. Mr Black is the prime suspect in the killing of a wealthy CEO. Etta’s retired and has unusual skills that aid their investigation.
Can Etta and Isobel keep Mr Black from going to jail? This journey is more dangerous than Izzy’s previous adventures. It’s difficult to discover the killer, and it keeps you guessing until the end.

I absolutely love this series. Izzy is all that I love in a main character. She tries to do what it right, she keeps kicking and caring even when life is a little tough for her, and she is a more than a little lucky! She is the kind of person who not only draws trouble, she trips over it, but good things happen to balance the bad. I also love to see the good guys succeed and this team just won't quit until they win.
While there is a great deal of humor Izzy's job as a taster is serious; yes, her job is to make sure her clients are not poisoned. In Poison is the New Black, the man who terrorized her for the money her ex-husband owed when we first met her has been accused of murder and her audacious septuagenarian neighbor refuses to believe that Mr. Black is a killer. Izzy's focus on the current case, protecting a club president so she gets to pose for a nude calendar, isn’t time consuming so she can’t use it as an excuse not to help the man who scares her even now that she is safe from his threats. Etta pushes Izzy to question his guilt as they meet his family and our heroine is forced to reevaluate how she feels about him.

While there is a great deal of humor Izzy's job as a taster is serious; yes, her job is to make sure her clients are not poisoned. In Poison is the New Black, the man who terrorized her for the money her ex-husband owed when we first met her has been accused of murder and her audacious septuagenarian neighbor refuses to believe that Mr. Black is a killer. Izzy's focus on the current case, protecting a club president so she gets to pose for a nude calendar, isn’t time consuming so she can’t use it as an excuse not to help the man who scares her even now that she is safe from his threats. Etta pushes Izzy to question his guilt as they meet his family and our heroine is forced to reevaluate how she feels about him.

You can't put this one down! A crazy laugh a minute cozy mystery with feisty and kooky characters and misdeeds!
This was a fantastic read for the third book in the series! I can't believe Chelsea Field can make things better and better with each ensuing book in the series! The characters she has introduced us to in the first book of the series are carried through to the third even quirkier and crazier than before. A laugh a minute combined with the mystery of trying to exonerate Mr. Black who was wrongfully set up to take the rap for a murder, (or did he really do it) and who has always been after our heroine Izzy for a bad debt. We again get the mysterious and feisty Etta who won't give up what she had done in her past, though she shows some very questionable talents and Connor and his family who get into the mix of things too. It is Etta who drags our protagonist Izzy into a big mess along with Connor and his family. I love where the author is taking us in this series and...You will absolutely LOVE how this ends. I was given an ARC of this book by the author. I am voluntarily offering my own honest opinion about the book.

The story continues immediately after the Christmas story 'Taste of Christmas' and I do think you need to have read at least the first book of the series to understand the storyline. This is nr 3.
Izzy takes a new job as a Shade, but it is a simple and fast one so she gets lured into a new investigation with elderly neighbor Etta. Etta wants to help Mr Black prove he is innocent of the murder he is accused of and even though Izzy has her doubts (he did threaten her in book 1) and is sure new boyfriend Connor won't approve, she is soon up to her eyeballs in playing investigator.
I like the route the story is taking Izzy and enjoy the writing style. Etta is my favorite secondary character and I enjoyed meeting Connor's family (again). The pacing of the story is just right without any boring moment. I do hope there will be many more books in the series and we get to see a more relaxed and talkative Connor :-) as he is starting to thaw.
I thank the author for giving me an ARC of this book. Be assured this is my honest review. I can't wait for the next book.

Poison is the New Black was so much fun to read! Isabel and her neighbor Etta team up to save an innocent friend from a murder rap....but it's so much more! From designer poisons to serial killers this book has it all. The most recent in a series, this book could stand alone but is better read in order. Isabel (a professional poison taster for hire as a Shade for the Taste Society) and Connors (security specialist for the secretive Taste Society) relationship is becoming more fleshed out and believable. Etta, the 70+ year old lady who has tons of tricks up her sleeves was a star of this book and she is such a great character! Great read! I received an advanced review copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.

We get to meet Mr. Black’s wife and daughter; a group of snarky rich women who have nothing constructive in their lives; an old “frenemy”, Emily and we again see Connor’s mother, Mae and sister, Harper and of course, Etta, the helpful neighbor. Oliver and Meow are here and so are a few “bad guys”.
Action bounds throughout the novel and the characterization of the main players continues.
Humor is laced throughout the story and with a plot twist or two we come to the satisfying conclusion.
Love this series and am so looking forward to the next installment.

Seriously Funny!
Poison is the New Black was so good I absolutely could not put it down! Main character, Aussie poison taster extraordinaire, is awesomely quirky. In fact the entire book crackles with memorable characters - senior citizen neighbor Etta, roommate Oliver, "thug" Mr. Black, even boyfriend, silent & studly Connor, are endearing & entertaining. Plus this time around we get the addition of Connor's mom Mae & sister Harper. The plot is fast-paced & suspenseful. I love the way Connor & Izzy's relationship is growing, too. This series never fails to entertain me! Can't wait for the next one!!

Izzy's "friend" Mr. Black is being accused of murder. The problem is that Izzy's next door neighbor doesn't believe he did it, and gets her help to figure out who the killer really is, and what is going on now. Izzy also has a Taste Society job she's working, and her new boyfriend Conner doesn't think she should be helping out Mr. Black. But Izzy ends up doing it anyway.
This book was really good. I enjoyed how Izzy was with Conner, and what happened with their relationship. I also loved Izzy and her neighbor together on an adventure it was pretty funny, and fun. I look forward to more in this series.

Izzy is back and is trying to adjust to the change in her relationship with Connor. This is complicated by the fact that she is looking into a 'case' that he told her not to. Unlike the previous two books this case isn't directly linked to her work as a shade so gives her different challenges in trying to investigate.
While the mystery is clever and fun the real joy of these books remains the characters and their interactions and this book does not disappoint.

ONE MORE SERVING OF HUMBLE PIE, BRO
I LOVE this series. It's fresh, hilarious and keeps you guessing until the end. Etta "figures out" Izzy's job and from there you can goes just how wrong things can go...or maybe NOT! I won't spoil your fun..pick up a copy and laugh your way through this zany charade featuring feeble old lady and her law abiding, clueless sidekick. Things never end up quite the way you might think. Have fun and thanks, Ms. Fields, can't wait for the next adventure.

5/10: Finished the book and it was above average.
A bit of a struggle to get through this one. The humour was somewhat missing, as was Connor for the first half of the book, and Izzy's lack of gumption had me wanting to throw my Kindle across the room.
Man, that girl lets people walk all over her.
But I still love this series & the unique premise behind it, so I'll be reading the next when it comes out, hoping it'll be more like the first.
Which was awesome.

This is a fun series. I think of it as the West Coast Stephanie Plum. Our adorable protagonist has an unusual occupation. She has a quirky neighbor or two. Her romantic life is anything but smooth. She gets into situations way over her head, but manages to squeak out through timely interventions. I am eager to read more.

Leaves you hungry for more
I enjoyed the previous books in this series, so I was looking forward to the next installment. I was not disappointed. The funny situations Izzy finds herself in are always entertaining and I love how she shakes Connors equilibrium. Great adventure I would recommend to everyone.

Fun Whodunit
I really enjoyed this book. The idea of a poison taster seems so archaic, but I love that not only is she entirely competent but a fun character. Great writing and a lighthearted plot make this a great read for a winters day or beach. I'd definitely read more in the series.

Enjoyable as always
I enjoyed this book in the series and I think it holds its own in comparison to the others, maybe a bit more so since we get some Connor and Izzy time. The mystery was good, Etta is crazier than usual and Ozzy has her hands full of cases to solve.

The most fun series to read!
I started the first book and was hooked immediately, read the others that followed in the next 2 days. Waiting for the next in the series. P.S. I think your brother should have to send you pictures once a month of him eating his humble pie! Ha ha

Chelsea Fields ROCKS!!
