A string of inexplicable murders brings Special Agent Kate Reid back to familiar grounds in this latest action-packed thriller.
It’s no secret Los Angeles is known for beautiful people, and when victims begin to turn up on the streets of South L.A., beauty seems to be the sole motivation of a vicious killer. With prompting from long-time friend and reporter, Marc Aguilar, Special Agent Kate Reid soon finds herself assisting the LAPD and Detective Ray Sharpe, a veteran homicide cop hesitant to relinquish control.
As the death toll rises and public outcry reaches a fever pitch, the rest of the BAU team arrive to help. With tensions already high, Kate and Agent Nick Scarborough’s precarious friendship begins to get in the way, neither eager to address the strains of the past few months.
A breakthrough in the investigation soon arrives in the form of a reluctant witness, but no one is prepared for the unfathomable explanation behind the horrific murders. The lives taken and the reasons why shatter any remaining illusions Kate has about the world in which she lives. But will this mark the end of her world, or will it be a catalyst for change?
Robin Mahle is thrilled to present another exciting installment in the Kate Reid series.
Another stunner! Tickled that Kate and Nick seem to be getting their relationship together as they work to solve these heinous crimes. I hate to see each volume because it means I’m that much closer to saying goodbye to these characters I’ve come to know and love.
I WAS AT 29% AND IT WAS STILL SLOW GOING SO BORING. THIS SEEMED TO HAVE MORE OF THE CHARACTERS PERSONAL PROBLEMS THAN DOING DETECTIVE WORK. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST TIME READING THIS SERIES AND I AM SICK OF KATE AND NICK’S SO CALLED ON-AGAIN-OFF-AGAIN RELATIONSHIP. I WISH THEY’D JUST GET UP OFF THE POT AND QUIT SHITTING UP THE INVESTIGATION. THEY KEPT MAKING MISTAKES BECAUSE OF STUPITIDY ON THEIR PART. THEY DIDN’T USE COMMON SENSE. TOO SLOW AND UNBELIEVABLE. ;[
I started reading the Kate Reid series with All the Shiny Things. Since it was the first in the series I wanted to to continue because I enjoyed it and thought the series would improve as the author progressed. In some ways it has and others tend to get a little bogged down. I enjoy the plots and the general storylines but the author continually goes on about the same issues with Kate wanting to do everything on her own and prove herself and how seemingly in awe everyone is of her but she can't acknowledge her achievements. I find myself skimming over those parts to get to the meat of the stories, which is usually very engaging. There's also a lot of emphasis on Kate's seemingly unusual "sixth sense" for picking up on clues that others miss and how impressed others are with that. I understand that Kate is them main character and the books are about her and the personal issues she deals with but I would love it if the next books focus more on developing the plots and intrigue and downplay some of those issues more.
If you like strong women you will love this book. I feel like I have gotten to know these characters and I have gone through so many emotions reading this series of books. Kate Reid has been through so much in her life and she’s surrounded by strong men that want to protect her but she does a damn fine job of protecting herself and those she loves. She has walked through fire and came out the other side tough and ready to fight the evil she sees in her job as an FBI agent. I highly recommend this series of books,
It was a good book. Foul language was minimal. The characters were easy to like. I didn't read the others so I am not familiar with the characters. They were easy to like. I could feel the connection between them as a team. I think I like Nick the best. I could feel his tension, pain, and emotional attachment to Kate. He seemed like a guy you could like in real life. Her attitude at the end was annoying but I could understand where she was coming from. I want to read the others in the series. Definitely worth reading.
In The Pretty Ones, Kate and the team are hunting a serial killer while trying to get their personal lives in order. There were a couple of parts that were kind of disjointed and hard to follow but all in all, not a bad read. I would have given it 3 1/2 stars if I could have.
For those who want to know: This one has language and violence.
not what I expected --spoilers--spoilers--spoilers
I like books in a series..these were enjoyable even with the gratuitous sex.. they were silly scenes that I just skipped over. but the whole series was ruined for me when kate jumped into bed with Nick..fortunately, I didn't pay for the books. I was going to try the author's other series, but I'm sure to be disappointed..
The FBI BAU team go out to Los Angeles to help hunt down a murderer.
Novel #6 in this series was very good. Full of suspense, mystery and thrills. Am completely captivated by these characters and highly recommend this book and the series to all suspense and mystery lovers alike. Gave it 5 stars and can't wait to start book #7!!!
Bad man killing women then making them look pretty and others acting as voyeurs are just as guilty. Kate and the team help out to catch him through good analysis and detection and with help from the news team. I enjoyed the story but the personal stuff between Kate and Nick is not for me. Happily she sets him right though if he's not already blown the job.
There’s a lot of hype about this book as well as the series. I found it all ow, plodding, in fact. Nothing exciting happens and the character development is lacking. Kate isn’t all that impressive as a profiler which is her next big claim to fame for the BAU. I love a good series and I was hopeful with this book.
I'm glad to see Kate finally dealing with her feelings towards Nick--I had definitely been feeling like Dwight had, that she and Nick couldn't keep living in the in between.
This story flowed in a way that pulls the reader into it as if it's their daily life. These people certainly don't get enough sleep. Neither do I, especially with not being able to put down these books! This is a wonderful series!
Each one of the Kate Reid novels have been fast moving, exciting, with interesting characters. The Pretty Ones is no exception. If you like police/FBI dramas, start with the first one, All the Shiny Things. Enjoy!
Another brilliant story. FBI intense drama / thriller at its best. Kate is almost at the end of her probation period and is leaning towards become a profiler in the BAU. Plus her personal life comes to its rightful conclusion putting her personal demons to bed. Cracking story once again .
This is book #6 in a 7 book series. Once you've read Book 1, you have to finished them. A strong main heroine, other characters fit in very well. A good mystery, solved by Kate and her FBI cohorts.
This is the second book in this series I have read. It was a great read. It caught my attention at the beginning and to the end. I had no idea for sure who the killer was until the end.
Kate always has been opinionated , but she lays it out in this book, especially to Nick. The story takes you into the minds of some very twisted individuals. I love this series .
I really wanted to love this book. I picked it based on the super favorable reviews. I couldn’t get past the unrealistic dialogue-it seemed very stilted and not at all how people speak naturally. Example: do FBI agents say “agent” EVERY TIME they talk about their colleagues?
This is one of those books that you just can’t put down. It was a great story about a psychopath and his fettish with women. Poor guy. Such a sad life. You”ll love the ending.
The characters were fabulous and the plot of the story was great. I loved the mystery and the suspense. I like Kate Reid and want to read more. Great book, Robin! Hub
No….I didn’t finish reading this book. Why would I when language is used that I don’t like reading. People in my life don’t swear, curse or blaspheme. So why do authours insist on using it. May be they should get better friends.
I enjoyed this book for the most part, but am frustrated and annoyed with the ambiguity Kate shows in her personal life. It ruins the storyline. A close, positive personal relationship would be more meaningful.
This story had more twist and turns than a roller coaster! So much drama and subterfuge. It was also a pretty good love story. Nick and Kate seemed made for each other! Great read!
This was an intense, complex, and suspenseful story with many unexpected twists. Not a series to be missed. I would recommend this book, series, and author.
