Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology.
He studied to become a Jesuit priest, but decided he would rather work with children after jobs at orphanages and daycare centers. In 1973, he received a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University. In 1975 he moved to Canada to work at the preschool at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. He also taught in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Guelph as a lecturer and as an assistant professor. In Guelph he was encouraged to publish the many stories he made up for the children he worked with.
Munsch's wife delivered two stillborn babies in 1979 and 1980. Out of the tragedy, he produced one of his best-known books, Love You Forever. This book was listed fourth on the 2001 Publishers Weekly All-Time Best selling Children's Books list for paperbacks at 6,970,000 copies (not including the 1,049,000 hardcover copies). The Munsches have since become adoptive parents of Julie, Andrew and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!)
Munsch has obsessive-compulsive disorder and has also suffered from manic depression. In August 2008, Munsch suffered a stroke that affected his ability to speak in normal sentences. He has recovered enough that he is able to perform live, but has put his writing career on hold until he is fully recovered.
Luke wakes up one day to find a moose sitting outside, next to his tree house. He rushes to summon his father, who is unsuccessful at trying to get the moose to go. His mother is equally as troubled, but cannot solve the moose problem. Even Luke coaxing the moose with carrots cannot rid it from their yard. However, when Luke's sisters arrive with their own solution, the tables take quite the turn. Neo laughed throughout this piece, having recently discovered the antics of Robert Munsch. He hopes to collect many more of these stories that entertained me in my youth.
This is my favorite picture book of all time. I would always read it as a kid because it was so funny. A moose jumping on a dad like that was my favorite part about it. I would recommend it to people of all ages because its an awesome book and everyone should have a chance to read it.

At first the boy tries to get his parents to get rid of the moose, but eventually, the boy takes a liking to this moose and decides it's okay if he stays.
I think it's fair to say that all the moose wanted was carrots.
It's an adorable story that had me laughing throughout the entirety of it. It also felt homey because for a while one summer when I was at my cottage; my aunt told me stories of a pesky moose that made its way around the land.
In Moose! , Robert Munsch tells the story of a little boy named Luke who goes outside and finds a giant moose in his backyard. Luke tries to get his parents for help but they don't believe him at first. The family tries to get rid of the moose and Luke helps even though he likes the moose now. When the moose finally leaves, Luke runs after him with carrots.
I'm not entirely sure what the point of this book was and the story ended abruptly. It wasn't a particularly good story and didn't play with repetition as effectively and predictably as some of Munsch's other books. That said, this is a quick and silly read involving animals that kids might enjoy.
Not my favourite Munsch. The illustrations by Martchenko are great, but the story is very simplistic and repetitive and then features an exceptionally nonsensical and anticlimactic ending. Moose, more like Boo-se! That's actually not a fair comment, it wasn't that bad, but I liked the joke
Munsch is a favourite with most young kids. I liked this one and although it wasn’t side splitting like some of his others, it was nonetheless enjoyable.
Another great book by Munsch. This one is a bit more repetitive than others, but our 3 year old loved this and laughed her way through. Funny voices help.
My baby is much too young to understand the story but it is very entertaining and he loves the silly voices we do along with it. Certainly a book he’ll grow into and we enjoy reading as parents.
Wow… just… wow. He’s done it again. A harrowing journey told through the eyes of our protagonist Luke. I laughed… I cried… we crode. The epitome of literary genius
The day Luke saw a large moose standing by his treehouse became a chaotic and exciting day. Both his father and mother didn’t believe him - at first. It wasn’t easy to make the moose leave, especially when the moose preferred to stay. Funny story and illustrations.
We've watched a lot of books by Robert N. Munsch narrated online at www.tumblebooks.com. We love his enthusiastic narratives and the expressive way that people react to what's going on in the story.
The story seemed to have an unresolved ending, but it's still a fun story to read aloud. The illustrations by Michael Martchenko are just as colorful and cartoonish as we've come to expect.
I purchased this book from a bookstore in Canada upon the recommendation of the store clerk. She said that Mr. Munsch is one of the most popular Canadian children's book authors, and I loved the moose on the cover. Overall, it's an entertaining book and it was a nice souvenir to bring home from Canada. We enjoyed reading this book aloud together.
I love the initial reaction from Luke when he saw the moose outside of the house by his tree house. It also is quite funny how his dad didn’t believe him at first, which to me is such like a parent who doesn’t always believe their child. Also this book shows repetition of Luke trying to wake up his parents and then hitting them to wake them. Luke finally realized he wanted to keep this moose after he lured him in with the carrots. He said he could keep him in his tree house, (because every child wants a pet that is unrealistic to have, trust me I’ve been there). This book is very funny and cute. I like how Luke is in love with the moose and does not want his parents hurt the moose. I loved the phrase “Moosies” that was used in the book by Luke to describe the moose. This book reminds of the relationship between man and man’s best friend. Very cute.
A boy named Luke goes outside one morning and finds a huge Moose in his back yard! He gets his parents up hoping they can do something about this ginormous moose that is by his tree house. Unfortunately the parents don't believe Luke until it is too late, the family now struggle with how to chase the Moosie away while Luke has decided to keep him.
This book was very cute and funny but it was repetitious and I did eventually become bored and unimpressed with the book. The drawings are great and very detailed and they add to the story; children would have tons of fun just looking at the drawings. Children would really have fun reading and following Luke's journey with his Moosie. This book would be a great for a reader to read aloud to a group; all the sound affects would delight the children.
One morning, a boy wakes up, and he finds that there is a moose in his yard. He wakes up his parents and siblings, who all try to remove the moose from the property. Everyone who tries is unsuccessful for different reasons. Finally, only the boy is able to get the moose to get up.
This book has a very predictable pattern and structure that may appeal to younger readers. Children are also likely to enjoy this story because it involves animals and it is funny. There is not a very strong plot in the story, depsite the conflict of the moose being in the yard. There is also no character development throughout the story. The illustrations are very colorful and detailed, and I think young children would enjoy them.
Moose! is a fun book for children to read as it is about the absurd adventure a boy has with a moose. One day the boy looks outside his window and sees a huge moose standing in his yard, he tells all of his family members, but no one believes him. Well, that is until they go outside and are frightened by the moose. The moose takes a liking to the young boy and they become good friends, despite the boys family trying to get rid of the moose. I liked this book because it was adventurous and made me laugh. I think that kids would really enjoy it as it is a cute story, and it's not everyday that you become friends with a moose.
I had never read this one before! I really enjoyed it! the large, enormous Moose is adorable! the watercolour paintings are beautiful! I love this one! and instant classic! I love Moosie's face when the sisters get out their squirt guns and yell "Hunters!" Hilarious! I really enjoyed it! cute Moosies !!
One of my favorite Robert Munsch book! A moose is in a family's backyard and they try to get rid of it. Robert Munsch's books are always funny and entertaining and I love all the ones I've read! I recommend this one to everyone!
