Wall Street Journal bestselling author SJ Scott wanted to be Luke Skywalker when he grew up.
Unfortunately his complete lack of physical grace and introverted mannerism's kept the earth from having their own Jedi Knight to battle the Sith menace.
Steve “SJ” Scott was born and raised in New Jersey. After finishing college with a degree in psychology he knew he needed to further his education or work on his latte making skills.
During a short stint in US Air Force, Scott was able to get his Master’s in business and then moved on to conquer the business world.
Scott then spent a couple of years working for a company not unlike the company depicted in Mike Judge’s film, “Office Space”. After doing his share of “TPS” reports, Scott swore he would never work for anyone but himself.
He spent the next few years making this happen. Making a decent living online and eventually pivoting to writing books, blogging and even podcasting.
Scott has written over 30 books, most of them in the "self-improvement" genre. An area that he is personally passionate about.
His books have been published in 12 different languages. So he is well on his way to world domination. However, in his heart of hearts he knows he will soon have to venture out into the universe and defeat the Sith menace.
The author offers simple guidelines and practical steps to learn and master a new skill. The book talks about different types of learning and how to identify and embrace our preferred style. One of the best advices in the book is not to work on many new skills at a time and instead be focussed and immersed on one at a time.
The below, in particular, stand out to me: Accelerated Learning Taking Actionable notes Learning from experts Skill specific project/habit Deliberate Practice Immediate feedback Tracking and Evolution Habit learning challenges
I'm glad I've picked up this book in transition to new year. I look forward to applying the tips and knowledge gained here in mastering a few skills planned for this year 😄

If you’re thinking of learning a new skill and are unsure how to proceed, Scott breaks it all down and guides you through a series of steps that can’t help but get results. All of his books are so down to earth, and this is one of my favorites.
This is an excellent, well-written, and succinct book that gives a tremendous amount of information. It's applicable, honest about its scope and limitations, and brings the right amount of consistency in approach to such a broad subject.
If you are looking to learn a new skill, or even just learning how you learn, this book is a great starting point in helping you define an approach and mentality that will lead you to progress daily. It's also short, with a good audiobook, and lots of reference material for gaining further information. I couldn't recommend it any more highly.
I found the information in this book to be easy to assimilate and very practical. I particularly liked getting a refresher course on learning styles and was pleased to learn things I didn't know. It helped me rethink how I went about learning new things.
Also the outlined ways and places of learning new skills was comprehensive and I found some new favorite ways to learn like utilizing podcasts on topics I want to learn more about or stay current with.
An easy to digest read. Great for anyone with limited time but the desire to step into a new skill set.
No more excuses, after this read, you'll be a skill mastering Warrior! What a great read! The expert hacks of 'just in time learning', and 'deliberate practice' have saved a skill I have been wanting to learn for a while being sucked away into the vortex of procrastination again! Another excellent book that empowers you to take action by this author.
"Instead of using Amazon, I recommend Googling the following: 'best books on [skill].'" ....seriously?
Scott recommends this approach multiple times as a cop out for actually providing content worthy of a book, nor does he suggest "searching" with advanced techniques that people would use for research and I felt like he was trying to reach his word count by summarising a chapter by creating a 'summary chapter' .:. just read the Summary Chapters and save your time.
Better yet, just listen to the podcast series by Timothy Ferris or try searching using the ;Advanced
Not really super revolutionary, but a good action plan to go through when you are trying to learn something new. However if you’ve ever learned something you probably already know what works for you. So i think that one of the steps as the author mentions is to know the way you learn. I think if you get that one down, you’re most of the way there. The other steps are good ideas, but not necessarily the only way to learn something.
The information provided is mostly basic, standard stuff you have already heard if you've been reading on this kind of topic for a while. There are a couple pages I bookmarked and will go back to because there's an interesting or unique spin on something, but I wouldn't say this is a must-read or anything.
The tips have been around for decades, but refreshed by the results of recent studies and research. The writing is clear and concise, well organized, easily digested in very few sittings. Mr. Scott masterfully steers clear of the pedantic so often found in such books. It's well worth the money and time investment.
Short but useful book about how to tackle learning new skills. The author packs a lot of information and provides a range of tools that you can adopt based on your learning style. While a lot of information is available on the internet, this is a good compilation of learning "lifehacks."
The concept shared in this book overlaps with the author's previous book "Habit Stacking" which I have read. The author gives some important tools and tips to become expert in any skill we want to acquire.
Overall, the book and concepts mentioned are excellent.
I grabbed his more because I was looking to plug a reading gap at the time. However the author delivered more than I expected which is always good. A short read but packed with very useful materials that I’m using and organising some of what I do.
Tells you exactly what you need to do. This is my first self help book so I can't compare it to another. However the not taking methods will be stuck in my head for a while.
This book provided a lot of great resources/platforms to learn new skills, including actions plans. The only thing is some contents were repeated for multiple times. Overall, it is a good book for people who wants to learn something new, but doesn’t know where to start.
This is a very easy book to read. Sometimes you may think is a little repetitive but you must understand the six steps with your brain and your heart. I recommended it if you are in a learning process
Had some concepts in it I hadn't thought of before had good links to organizational and motivation apps also reminded me of concepts I already knew but hadn't thought about
Yes, this was basically free through unlimited. A good fast informative read for me. I knew the majority of the information yet it was all a motivating good reminder.
This was a good book to read because it provides a lot of useful strategies. The author laid the concepts out in a logical manner which made the things he recommended both actionable and easy to follow.
An excellent book on how to create new habits and also how to be focused on following them. The author S.J. Scott has created a simple plan to create any habit and also emphasizes what would stop us and how to overcome it.
Again, another great book by Steve. I like this type of books because you can save time and learn a lot, it took me just three days to read this book and Thales great notes
Honestly, a lot of this stuff is a repeat from other books, and he repeats himself a bit in this book. Each chapter has a summary at the end, though, and those are pretty good.
