In When a Unicorn Crosses the Rubicon, author Lloyd Goulbourne introduces us to friends and neighbors Angie and Taylor. They seem to have almost everything going for them during their senior year of high school. Like many teens, Angie and Taylor believe they are almost fully prepared to undertake the next scripted challenges in life—until life changes their plans. You will share their pain as both Angie and Taylor must overcome personal tragedy and face their demons as well as the ones created by their families with explosive results.
As you meet the characters in When a Unicorn Crosses the Rubicon, they may seem familiar to you. You may know someone like Angie, Taylor, and the others. You may even see some of yourself in them. In the face of tragedy, they demonstrate strength as well as vulnerability, just like many of those we encounter every day.
Two teenagers growing up in less than perfect families struggle against the odds to build a relationship.
The story was depressingly true, especially in the way that some of the characters were absolutely awful in their attitudes / conduct. The story progressed at a fast pace and I read it in one session, as I was keen to find out how everything would turn out. The scenes / actions were very graphically described and in a few places I was left wincing.
Overall my rating is 4 star as in a couple of places the language / flow of the storyline wasn’t seamless.
Judging by the ending I expect there will be another book in the series and I’ll be looking out for it.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a great read!
The story covers two teens who are growing up in less than ideal homes. The story is so realistic in the experiences many teens face in life and end with one of the most page gripping turn of events.
The writing is so well written that you can't help but picture the entire story in graphic detail!
