Hard to believe that this book was published by Charles Scribner and Sons in 1937... when they were publishing Ernest Hemingway, among others. Lyman never met an exclamation point he didn't love. And use.

The history of 1860-65 Nevada hasn't changed much since this book was written, but the way of telling has. I love the way that this reads as an adventure novel - and that its substance holds true in the more modern histories.
