A popular trend is to get back to nature. Organically grown food and self-sustaining homesteads are all the range, until a city slicker tries their hand at it. Then said city slicker is wondering what on earth he got himself into. Wylie is a guy who radically changes his direction after an asshat ex-lover does a hostile takeover of his company and forces him out. Wylie is the nice guy who believes in working hard and letting others take his accolades. He also seems to believe the best in people. How does this person even exist in life? He needs a protector and this is where Everett comes in.
Wylie and Everett start off on the wrong foot. Both have baggage which causes them to have a communication failure. It is cringe worthy watching the two of them put their foot in their mouth. Their second impression of each other is completely different because of an erotic power exchange which helps Wylie communicate better with Everett. Then the chemistry takes off and it is so hawt. I loved how they first didn't like each other and then they were able to clear the air and change their minds. As they learn more about each other, it is obvious the two men are complementary in their skills and attitudes. Everett is a protective bear and Wylie is selfless serving submissive. Another win tally for the lady matchmakers in this kinky group.
The BDSM between the two men is especially arousing as it spends more time on a D/s exchange. Since my preference is D/s, I am in reader subspace heaven. Getting kinky isn't easy because Wylie's submissive nature has been abused by his ex and there are some bad triggers. Luckily, Everett is understanding and takes it easy. Everett's dom style is slow and steady. This isn't to say he is boring. He is just right for Wylie's skittishness. It is as if Wylie is a frightened colt that Everett is trying to coax for a ride. When they finally scene together, it is delicious. If this was the end of the story, it would not be a Ms. Dalton one. Because whilst the relationship and new life is looking up for Wylie, his ex comes back to cause trouble.
Sometimes in this series, an ex to reference and maybe makes a small appearance. Whilst Wylie's ex does not make many appearances, each one is intense and filled with malice. It is clear Wylie's suffered emotional, mental and physical abuse from this jerk. When Everett takes charge, it makes me melty to see this protective stance. And it really is more protection first and then support. Because Wylie ultimately handles it all when he finds out about threats from his ex towards the ones he loves. This erotic tale is recommended for kinky readers who like m/m fresh start themes with a dash of vengeance.
MM. Everett and Wylie were a nice match of opposites. Most excellent character development. Wonderful romantic and D/s relationship development. There was one steamy sex scene that involved a hot iron and branding. Unfortunately.....the writing for the rest of the sex scenes was rather passive with a lot of telling. Too bad because Everett was a newbie Dom plus an ass virgin.
This was a really good book. This was book 45 in the "Suncoast Society" series. Wylie Young moved to Florida from Los Angeles CA. to get away from his abusive ex who was also his partner in his software company after he bought him out so he buys a homestead to prove to him that he can do it and to also prove to his dead mother that he can also. Everett Cannon has been separated from his wife Lara for two years after he admitted to her that he is gay and kinky. Everett is a skilled artisan metalworker and welder who met Logan at a ren fair when he bought a knife from him and wanted a custom pair of handcuff Everett also meets Leo and his pack at the fair and gets a job offer from him. When he goes out on a job he meets Wylie and the two don't get off on the right foot. Everett is dealing with the guilt of his failed marriage to Lara who turns out has some Dom in her. With Tilly playing matchmaker these two meet at a non-kinky party that Landry, Cris, and Tilly are having. I really like the group of friends in the Society Leo and his pack take Everett under there wing and turns out he knew Eliza and Rusty from the fairs. Everett wants to take it slow and date he wants them to get to know each other. In the book we also get to meet Eve Everett's sister I really liked her and his ex Lara. When Landry hires Wylie to do some consulting for him he has to go to L.A. where he meets Doyle and Mevi, Wylie talks to Doyle about the things that his ex did to him and how he treated him and he even comes face to face with the man Ralph. When Ralph shows up in Florida offering Wylie a job in which he turns him down he tries to blackmail him into taking it. This was a really good read the sex scene's in this book were hot. I also liked that Everett and Wylie were able to help Mark the 14 year old neighbor that helps Wylie on the homestead turns out he is gay and not sure how his father will take it. When Lara breaks up with her boyfriend at dinner Mark's father takes her home and the two of them start dating I can't wait to read there book. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.
Splendid Isolation is the 45th book in Tymber Dalton's Suncoast Society BDSM series. If you haven't read the previous books, each book in the series is a standalone novel but you'll understand the backstories of the characters involved better if you read them in order. There's a listing of the entire series, in order, at the beginning of every book.
This is Everett's and Wylie's story. Wylie's a recent transplant to Florida and has been through hell. He started his own software company, made it a success, only to get involved with a Dominant in the BDSM lifestyle who not only abused him physically and emotionally but then stole his company right out from under him. His trust broken, his life in tatters, Wylie buys a rundown homestead and decides to restore it and become self-sufficient. There's just one problem. He knows absolutely nothing about homesteading! Give him a computer and he's a genius. But farming, chickens, goats, orange trees, pasture, gardening...he hasn't the first clue!
Everett has just as many problems. He's been married to Lara for years, even though he's gay. He and Lara have been separated for two years, and are still best friends. But neither has moved to file for divorce until now. Only Ev's little sister, Eve, Lara, and a handful of other close friends know he's gay. Not even his parents know. He's also a Dominant although he has little time to spend in the lifestyle. He's an artisan metal worker and blacksmith and darned good at what he does. Although he never went to college, Ev makes a decent living with his amazing creations at Renaissance "Ren" fairs but it's certainly not enough for him to pay his share of the divorce costs. He's living in his trailer, the "Tin Can" on a friend's property where he has access to a forge and equipment to make his Ren fair crafts. But he needs to find a "real" job to be able to pay his expenses. A chance meeting at a Ren fair introduces Ev to Leo, a member of the Suncoast Society and owner of his own business. Leo's recovering from a severe accident and needs a welder. After exchanging information, and getting through a dinner/interview, Ev finds himself gainfully employed by Leo.
Wylie and Ev cross paths on Ev's first job solo welding job away from the shop at Wylie's homestead. Both men feel an immediate attraction to each other. But things go off the rails almost instantly. Wylie's in major pain from so much recent hard physical work on the homestead. He's also feeling the pressure making a go of the farm when he's knows absolutely nothing about what he's doing. A misunderstanding between the two escalates out of control and Ev and Wylie have an explosive argument. The two leave completely at odds and not knowing that each is truly attracted to the other.
Things escalate. Wylie and Ev keep running into each other. They learn more about each other and although they are as different as night and day in some ways, they have many other things in common. Slowly they form a friendship. Is there more possible? But then, Wylie's old partner and Dominant, Ralph, shows up out of nowhere and tries to blackmail Wylie into returning to California. There's something sinister at work here. Why would Ralph want Wylie back when he'd stolen Wylie's company, abused him and kicked him to the curb only months earlier? Something doesn't make sense.
From this point, Tymber Dalton takes the story and spins it into an intriguing story of incredible beginnings, extreme loss, excruciating pain, betrayal, loyalty, amazing love and true friendship. Splendid Isolation is a roller coaster of emotions that will keep you glued to your Kindle (or book) from beginning to end. I wasn't able to put it down. It isn't just the relationship between Ev and Wylie that holds your interest. It's not just the BDSM and the kink. The entire book is filled with authentic, realistic characters. As always, Tymber Dalton creates characters the reader can personally relate to. All the characters are completely believable. As the relationships develop and grow, as the story progresses, you're carried along with them. Ev's and Wylie's story was so compelling everything faded into the background as I read it. Ms. Dalton's skill is unparalleled. The entire Suncoast Society series is beyond amazing. Splendid Isolation is yet another amazing addition to this series.
One final comment. This is an ADULT book. It contains BDSM themes, explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy erotic romance with sexual/BDSM scenes and explicit language, PLEASE think hard before buying any book you know you won't enjoy. There's always a book synopsis on any bookseller's website, as well as reviews available on Goodreads and numerous booksellers' websites. PLEASE use these resources so you're sure the book you're buying is what you want to read. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. IT'S NOT FAIR TO THE AUTHOR! She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product. If you know before you buy any book you'll object to the subject matter, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice. But if you do enjoy hot, erotic BDSM romances, I highly recommend Splendid Isolation. It's a compelling novel and you'll love it! Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
Ralph should have never messed with them, serves him right. He is such a douchcanoe, described perfectly. Ev and Wy are great guys I'm sure that Mark will learn a lot from them. Love the ice branding, bet Lan hasn't even thought of that one. It's always fun when others from previous stories make appearances in the later books.
Wylie and Everett seem to be made for each other. Wylie has been through a lot and is set to prove to people who really don't even matter that he can stand on his own two feet and take care of himself. Everett has also made changes in his life but he seems to have gotten stuck. As each is faced by events they are brought together but also moved forward in their individual lives. These are two men who both need to learn the lesson of give and take and that giving and receiving are both part of a loving relationship.
This reminded me a lot of Leo and Jesse's story and they were in it along with the other characters, but there is no pack in this book. This is more about two people fighting and overcoming their insecurities to be together. It had a lovely romantic feel to it.
Wow! What a book! I just loved this characters! Wylie has been betrayed by love and moves to Florida to get away from his ex as well as prove to himself and everyone else that he can make it on his own. Everett has finally accepted that he is a gay, kinky man and through a chance meeting with Leo makes him realize that it is time to make some real changes in his life. These two men do not get off on the right foot but with Tilly in the mix that gets set right. I loved reading about the journey that these two men embark on together to finally become all they are meant to be.
Gotta love Everett and Wylie. Both men have gone through tough times. Coming to terms with who they are and what they want hasn't been easy. We watch Wylie a city boy trying his hand at living off the land. In comes Everett and they knock heads at first. Love and funny ensues and we have a story that rocks you.
Wylie moves to Florida to escape abuse from Ralph where he meets his Viking Everett - this books hits all your emotions, and will definitely tug at your heart strings. I love how Tymber writes.
But didn't love this one. Something just didn't click for me between these two. I loved that we got more time with the couple than we have in some other books but not in love with this book. Love the series and will continue reading it.
This couple both have some emotional baggage to overcome. Which they do in part by leaning on their friends. We get to see lots of members from The Suncoast Society as Wylie and Ev enter the kinky community in Sarasota. A lot happened in this book and I enjoyed it very much.
Friendship, healing, love, funny spots, teary spots & new friends. This story is interesting in its own way. I really liked learning about "the Viking". The way he is supportive is amazing. However, when I figured out what Wylie had up his sleeve the morning he disappeared to places unknown and wouldn't tell Everett where he had gone? I was jumping up and down in my seat clapping and cheering!
